KARABABA CASTLE || GREECE FROM ABOVE (With Subtitles) - Duration: 5:18.

Good morning Good evening How are you

Well I'm here in chalkida

is noon

and earler

I went to Karababa castle

check out a video I made

Right now i'm on the top of Kanithos Hill

in particular this hill called Fourka wich i'll explain

The view from here is just stunning as you can observe the entire city of Chalkida

The translation of the name Fourka is gallows

and that states that the hill during the Ottoman rule used as an execution area

with death by hanging as the method of execution

Karababa's Castle dominates Kanithos hill

The Karababa Castle built by the Ottomans in 1684 in order to protect Chalkida from the Venetians

Designed by the Venetian Gerolimo Galopo

That is why architecture is more reminiscent to European than the Ottoman's

The Castle probably named after Karampampa Sultan who was buried in this hill

Two Russian cannons of 19th century are hosted on the east side

The western station is located at the highest point of the hill

and is perhaps the most interesting constructional aspect of the Castle

in the core of this building there was the basic water tunk suply

Now serves as an exhibition space where collection of sculptures from Chalkida area is exposed

The only well-preserved building in the courtyard is the temple dedicated to the Prophet Elijah from 1895

This Fort has fulfilled its purpose completely

from its construction until it was given back to the Greeks on 1833 remained

IMPREGNABLE
