We're at the Missouri Botanical Gardens for their Garden Glow event, and this year in 2017, it's going on from November 18th through January 1st.
New Year's Day they're open! So there's gonna be all kinds of really pretty decorations and lights and different events going on, so
we're excited to go.
We've never been!
We were the first group the first group got to go in at 5:00.
And I think the times were staggered every 15 minutes.
There was a big group of us at 5:00.
And they handed us a guide when we walked in showing where everything's at and what's going on.
It's a beautiful sculpture there.
And we're getting ready to have our tickets scanned and go out into the gardens.
And it says, "Follow the glow."
So that's what we're gonna be doing tonight...Following the Glow!
It's a pretty scene right as you walk out of the main building.
Awesome!
Pretty trees!
And we're going into the field of lights
It looks like lightsabers sticking out of the ground everywhere.
It says, "Stay on the path."
Because...
Garden beds may look bare, but there are bulbs, corms, tubers, and rhizomes living in the soil.
So you're helping to protect the spring bloomer. Okay, so stay on the path. The path is marked really well by this
green tinsel all along the path itself - can't go wrong.
There's a lot of little picture spots along the walkway.
There's an archway there that you can get your picture taken under.
And you can't help but look at that geodesic dome!
All lit up...very cool.
These are nice too - wow!
There's a whole field of those on either side of the path here.
This is the Climatron, but they've renamed it the Illumatron for the Garden Glow event.
That is really pretty - really awesome. Wow!
The Botanical Gardens are big and there's lights everywhere. That's really pretty out over the water.
Wow!
Really beautiful out here.
And the balls change color every once in a while.
And they say they use LED lights to do most of the lighting here.
Here's a pretty group of trees.
There's some little picture spots here.
And they have boards of little magnetic pieces on them.
And you can take those off and decorate the snowmen with them.
There's a whole row of metal snowmen that you can decorate.
They haven't missed too many opportunities to decorate around here.
Wherever there's a statue, or a bush, or tree,
they have added lights to it. So, very pretty.
And here's another picture spot.
Says, "Garden Glow", and you're backed by all those trees.
Those lights are doing some crazy things!
These are the Botanical Luminaries sponsored by Maritz. Wow!
Like a whole big hillside of luminaries in different shapes and designs.
Now we're gonna go through the Twinkling Tunnel, which looks really cool. Everybody's getting pictures before they go in.
And there's the luminaries with the dome in the background.
And I think this is like a big snow globe you walk through.
Or a Christmas ornament?
So we're gonna wait in line and do that.
And this is a picture spot.
You can go in, and you can have someone take your picture from outside, or you can take a selfie of yourself inside.
We're going to get our picture taken.
A nice lady out there is going to take our picture!
There's just one pretty scene after another
They've got some deer lit up too.
There's a gazebo up ahead. And in the center of their gazebo, is an upside down Christmas tree.
And a place where kids can write a wish for this season.
Donna's gonna write her wish.
And, yeah, don't lie about your age.
Somebody wished for a Pug!
Ha ha - a Pug! My wish was peace on earth.
It's a good wish. Let it begin with you. Okay, and you as well! That might be a song.
Still following!
Following, following, this is following!
Pretty tree with white lights.
This is a real pretty area.
There's a whole forest of trees here.
This looks like even more trees when you can see the reflections.
And Donna said this looked like a big gingerbread house.
Really does...it's cool!
A place to warm up here.
Is your nose warm? No, it's not very warm. really!
There's another picture frame photo spot.
This looks like a maze.
This is really cool.
The Gardens.
This is an observatory, but it's closed right now.
Does it tell about Henry Shaw?
He was a 19th century English born businessman. He lived most of his life in St. Louis.
Wow.
What a legacy!
This is a pretty walkway with more luminaries.
It's a very pretty house, and you can go through part of it.
There's trees in about every window.
This is the Tower Grove house.
This was Mr. Shaw's country home.
There's a picture of Henry Shaw.
This is the Holiday House sponsored by Boeing.
Why is the garden using cut trees? it was designed in coordination with our horticultural staff to protect our living collection of trees and plants.
They were farmed in Michigan,
and were purchased at the Kirkwood Market.
They're the more sustainable choice, as they help preserve the gardens collections, and prevent damage to living plants.
And this is the Frosted Forest.
Both sides of the walkway here are surrounded by trees.
Very beautifully lit trees.
This area is called "Brilliance".
12 Days of the Garden. I think this is going to be the 12 Days of Christmas.
Where's the Partridge? There's the Partridge!
Two turtledoves.
Three French hens.
Four calling birds.
Here's five golden rings.
Six geese a-laying.
Seven swans a-swimming.
All seven accounted for.
There's eight maids a-milking.
Nine ladies dancing.
Ten Lords a-leaping. And you can make them jump. Pull the strings and they'll jump
Hey, way to go Donna!
This is 11 pipers piping.
And you can play the chimes.
Donna, you're so musical! What song was that?
What are you playing, Donna?
Jingle Bells!
This was 12 drummers drumming.
You can roast marshmallows here and make s'mores.
There's some games over here. This is the reindeer ring-toss.
Try to get the rings on the antlers.
They've got snow blowing out here!
Alright! It's snowing!
This is really pretty along here.
The Kiss Goodnight.
There is mistletoe there if you want to get kissed under it tonight.
And you can get your picture taken in the sleigh.
So we just got finished with the Garden Glow. What did you think, Donna? I give it 10 out of 10! Yeah!
Awesome! Very pretty, it is the perfect holiday celebration to come to.
Yeah, we'd really recommend that. A lot of fun, the lights were beautiful, and just very well done.
Real nice walk and a lot to see.
So, thanks for watching! Have a great day.
