A SHOW ABOUT ART - NYKI WAY FEATURE - EP.5 - Duration: 8:21.
Hi, I'm Nick and this is a show about Art.
This show is all about your art and your creations.
Every episode is different but every episode will challenge you to try new things, learn
new stuff and become a better creator.
Oh, and let's inspire and encourage each other through it all.
Let's get into it!
Hey artistic badasses!
Welcome to A Show About Art Episode Number 5!
Last week I double dared you to create a street art inspired artwork.
From all around the globe, you guys handed out some artistic street justice with your
awesome creations!
Let's take a lookety look!
Tanij102 created a very 80's vibe boombox design on a wall!
Laroach.Digital.Art's morphed a street art image into a crazy and awesome pattern design
which she then turned into phone case's on RedBubble.
PatyHoshiblue21's artwork proved there's a whole galaxy within street art!
BillyArt created this awesome galaxy eye on a brick wall!
And from last weeks challenge, Bulibuist 10 minute time trial resulted in this cute cactus
which was then turned to a digital print and then uploaded to RedBubble!
Lastly, here is Malthe's creature drawn with 4 minutes to spare!
Awesome!
Picked at random, Tanij102 will take home the artistic badass sticker!
Awesome work for everyone who dared to create a street art inspired artwork!
And with one challenge down, we better get to creating a new one for this week!
For inspiration, we'd better consult with the segment machine!
In this episode, we will be celebrating the work of extremely talented American born artist,
Nyki Way!
I have had the privilege and opportunity to ask Nyki a few questions about how she got
started in her art, what she's currently working on and what her plans are for the
future!
Here is what I learnt!
Nyki's work is a little sweet and a little street.
She uses super-saturated colours which pop straight from the sketchbook and into your
eyeballs.
Nyki started drawing from the first time she ever held a pencil.
Throughout her artistic journey, she has always been perfecting or experimenting with an aspect
of art.
A trademark of Nyki's art style are the slightly skewed and warped proportions of
her cartoony characters and animals.
After a difficult childhood which led to depression and psychosis, Nyki grew up viewing the world
through frequent hallucinations.
After embarking on treatments and rehabilitations, her art became a vessel of recovery.
Her art could describe her world and her experiences in a way words never could.
More importantly, it let other people who shared her struggles know that they aren't
along and being a little crazy is actually pretty rad.
Nyki is now a passionate advocate for the healing powers found within artistic expression
and has made it her mission to help guide people to this realization.
If you are sick of the reality you live in, paint your own.
At the moment, Nyki is an artist in residence at Redbubble and is using her time to create
an illustrated guide to Social Media Marketing for artists.
With such a huge following on Instagram, Nyki's advice would be invaluable for any artist
who wants to share their art with more of the world.
In the future Nyki wants to be more active in painting murals as she has been told many
times her work is street art which hasn't found it's way to the street yet.
Nyki would also love to create an illustrated children's book about mental health – an
idea which would be super useful and relevant in todays world.
To follow Nyki and her amazing artworks and be the first to be notified about her Social
Media Marketing guide, there's a link to her Instagram in the description below, as
well as her Redbubble store where you can use the codeword 'StreetSweet' for a 15%
discount of any of the amazing products on her store.
And a huge thank you goes out to Nyki for being on the show!
I hope you enjoyed and felt inspired by learning more about Nyki's artist journey!
But now it's time for an artist challenge!
Artist challenge.
Participate in this challenge with the hashtag #AShowAboutArt on Instagram and Redbubble.
Participants will be featured on the next episode!
Your challenge for this week is to create a crazy creature inspired by Nyki's art
style.
This week, you guys actually are blessed to death because Nyki has actually written a
tutorial on RedBubble blog on how to do this very thing.
So head over there for some tips and advice if you need some extra help!
For my artwork, I was planning on following Nyki's tutorial to the T – but when I
was sketching out some ideas, some art inspiration just hit me across the face!
For this..
This is a little bit weird, but I tried to make an octopus and a hyena like fused together
to make one thing.
But I couldn't really
get the Hyena's face s
Wait.
Stop the Music.
I have to show you guys something new I learnt.
Instead of getting rid of all this pixel mess with the wand or eraser tool, there's an
easier and faster way of doing it.
I have no idea how it works – but it works.
Right click on your layer and select the blending options.
There's a toggle bar here, and you simply just adjust it down to take the pixel mess
out.
Adjust it too much and the black lines will also disappear though – I don't know how
this works really.
I assume it makes a legion of Photoshop monkey's do the work for you.
The less I know about it, the less my conscience thinks about the ethical implications
of that.
I'm uploading this on Instagram and
Redbubble with the hashtag #AShowAboutArt
I can't wait to see what art creations you come up with next week!
Remember, it doesn't matter what your artistic skill level is or what materials you use,
everyone can get featured and win a prize!
Just use the hashtag #ashowaboutart on Instagram and Redbubble so I can see it.
And that's it for this week, thanks for drawing
with me!
And Goodbye for now… but not forever!

Preview Deportivo Alaves vs CD Leganes - Duration: 0:47.
After their crucial win against Sevilla, Deportivo Alaves will be doing all they can at the Mendizorrotza to keep
their distance from the relegation zone.
They are hosts to Leganes this weekend, the team that went up with them two seasons ago and who also need
a victory to stay away from danger.
Gerard Gumbau, who scored a superb goal for the Madrid team at the Benito Villamarin, is suspended along
with Alaves's Ruben Duarte who was sent off in their last game.
-------------------------------------------
Preview Real Madrid vs RC Deportivo - Duration: 2:41.
Real Madrid are on trial at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Their fans are waiting to pass judgement depending on the outcome of their encounter with Deportivo Coruña.
The Galician side will be hoping to repeat Villarreal's feat last matchday, when,
away from home, they rolled over the current league champions.
It was another slip-up that has left Zinedine Zidane's side a long way off the top of the table.
Although they have a game in hand Los Blancos are now 19 points behind their eternal rivals, Barça,
10 points adrift of their neighbours Atletico Madrid, and 8 points behind Valencia.
Villarreal are, in fact, in contention for Los Blanco's place in the Champions League
something that Real dare not even contemplate.
They absolutely have to end their recent run of poor form, after three games without a win in all,
and including the King's Cup match against Numancia, three fruitless home games.
Deportivo, for their part, are desperate to come away with something having now dropped into the relegation zone.
"Well, it's obviously very tough to come away with points from the Santiago Bernabeu.
But we're going there with the intention of doing our very best.
It's true they've hit a difficult patch, but they're Real Madrid, they're always dangerous"
Cristobal Parralo will have to do something about his team's soft defence.
The Galicians have conceded more goals in LaLiga than any other team apart from Las Palmas.
Los Blancos will be hoping to take advantage of this statistic and improve their poor form in front of goal.
Neither Deportivo nor Real Madrid can afford to lose. Real must win to stay in contention for
the title and the team from the Riazor have to escape the relegation zone.
It's all or nothing for both sides at the Santiago Bernabeu.
-------------------------------------------
Preview Real Sociedad vs RC Celta - Duration: 0:52.
Real Sociedad threw away a great opportunity against Barcelona.
It looked like the curse of the Anoeta was going to last another game, but it was not to be.
And Eusebio's team continue to lack consistency.
Celta, however, are well aware of how difficult things can be up against the side from San Sebastian.
"We're going to a difficult ground. We know they're a good team but we'll be giving it our all
We lost to them last time we met. We've got to make sure we get things
right and work on our weaknesses if we want to get a positive result"
-------------------------------------------
Preview Getafe CF vs Athletic Club - Duration: 1:04.
Getafe kick off for the second matchday in a row at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.
The perfect setting for the club who this season have turned their ground into a veritable fortress.
19 of their 26 points in LaLiga have come at home.
"It'll be a tough game but we're at home and that's where we're strongest. We've done very well there and we hope
to continue doing so"
Athletic Club, however, are not going to take things lying down.
After a poor start to the season, Ziganda's team have now gone eight games undefeated.
-------------------------------------------
Preview SD Eibar vs Malaga CF - Duration: 0:43.
Eibar's amazing run in Laliga came to an end thanks to a solitary goal from Gameiro.
Mendilibar's team hadn't lost since November and were the most in-form team in Europe.
They now face a Malaga side who are second from last with the same number of points as the bottom club,
Las Palmas.
Their dire predicament has led to the sacking of Michel and the arrival of a new coach, Jose Gonzalez.
A few paths will be crossing in this encounter: Adrian Gonzalez returns to the Ipurua and Charles
once more faces his old team, Malaga.
-------------------------------------------
Preview Atletico Madrid vs Girona FC - Duration: 2:20.
The dream began with the game against Atletico Madrid.
And Girona hope they never wake from that dream.
After an historic first half of the season for the team.
At the midway point in their first season in the greatest league in the world,
the Catalan club are only three points off a European place.
Three points that could, just could be theirs, after their first ever visit to a magnificent stadium called Wanda Metropolitano.
Girona had a tough opening game in LaLiga Santander against Atletico Madrid, who, on an unforgettable day
for the fans at the Montilivi stadium, just managed to scrape a draw with a late goal from Jose Gimenez.
"They have an incredible stadium and are a brutal unforgiving team, but we won't let them get to us.
Although it was a while back now, we all remember the clash at Montilivi in the first game of the season.
What a match that was. It ended in a draw, but I think it was a sign of what was to come. It showed
we meant business in the first division and we want more of the same again"
A lot of things have changed since then.
Girona have shown that they are serious contenders in LaLiga.
Atletico have left their shaky start to the season well behind them.
They've won 6 of their last 7 league games and are now the main challengers to Barça in the race for the championship.
Godin will be the major absence as he's suspended, but Savic, Gabi and Diego Costa will all be back.
It's a hard test for Atletico and a major hurdle for Girona who are now more concerned
about what's happening above rather than below them in the league table.
-------------------------------------------
Preview RCD Espanyol vs Sevilla FC - Duration: 0:49.
Espanyol are hoping to keep up their fine recent form.
They haven't lost for four games and Quique Sanchez Flores' side will be looking to keep that run going at
home this Saturday.
Sergio Garcia and Pablo Piatti are both doubtful for the encounter.
Sevilla, on the other hand find themselves in difficulties.
They haven't won since matchday 14, and the arrival of Montella in the dugout hasn't changed their fortunes.
He's lost both his games in charge.
-------------------------------------------
Preview Villarreal CF vs Levante UD - Duration: 0:49.
Villarreal are now contesting fourth place, a spot currently occupied by Real Madrid.
After their triumph in the Bernabeu last time out, they're only a point away from qualifying for the Champions League.
The yellow submarine are on a high coming into the derby against Levante, but will be without Carlos Bacca who is suspended.
The frogs are in desperate need of points coming into the tie.
They're two points off the relegation zone, and will be hoping to repeat their victory against Villarreal,
thanks to a goal from Morales, in the first game of the season.
-------------------------------------------
Preview UD Las Palmas vs Valencia CF - Duration: 0:56.
"We've got an incredibly important game coming up. It's the start to the second half of the season and we've got
to get moving…We're focussing on the next game and we'll be going all out"
Las Palmas are up against the wall after the thrashing they received at the hands of Girona.
Paco Jemez's team are bottom of the table but there's still a long way to go in the season.
Their first challenge is to win against a very strong Valencia team who are now on 40 points.
Los Ches are without Dani Parejo and Jose Gaya who are both serving a ban,
but Simone Zaza is once again available for selection in attack.
-------------------------------------------
Match of the Weekend: Real Betis vs FC Barcelona - Duration: 4:31.
Ernesto Valverde's Barcelona continued their march towards the league title.
They finished their remarkable first half of the season with an amazing comeback at the Anoeta.
Coming from two nil down to win 4-2. They are still way ahead at the top of the table.
"We're now into the second half of the season. Although we're well ahead, we're not taking anything for granted.
We've got to stay focussed, concentrate on the next match, do our best to win and keep playing our game.
That's the advantage of being first, you don't have to worry about what the other teams are doing"
The deadly trio of Messi, Luis Suarez and Paulinho were once more on form against Real Sociedad.
The three players now have 38 goals between them in the league.
With Coutinho still out of the team and Dembele again injured the three players are sure to be
lining up in Valverde's eleven this Sunday in the Benito Villamarin.
Barça, however, won't find it that easy to continue their triumphant run when they face up to Betis this weekend.
The leaders will be confronting a team riding high.
The incredible win in the derby against Sevilla, combined with
Monday's defeat of Leganes, has boosted the Andalusian's confidence.
Not only that their attack has been further strengthened by the return of Ruben Castro.
"I think it'll be a great game to watch as both sides love to keep the ball.
We want it to be the first game they lose. We'll be going all out and working as hard as we can all week.
Having the crowd behind us will also give us a real boost."
Among the other players to watch in the Betis line-up are: Zou Feddal, who
returns to their defence having been suspended for the Leganes game.
Fabian Ruiz, who has apparently aroused the interest of Barcelona.
And more than anyone, Cristian Tello, an ex-Barça player who has scored in his last two outings.
"It's going to be a special game. I've been away from Spain for a while now,
I've only just come back this season, so it's going to be a very special occasion.
It'll be great meeting up with old friends. I really hope we come away with a win."
Barcelona are undefeated in their last six visits to the Villamarin stadium,
having won three and drawn three including last season's controversial 1-1 encounter.
In fact, Betis' last victory was ten years ago, in March 2008, when
they beat Barça 3 - 2 in a match that featured a brace from the Brazilian Edu.
Real Betis will be looking to repeat that result, and hoping their recent run of good form
helps them to become the first team to overcome Valverde's insuperable Barcelona.
It's the stand-out game in this weekend's round of matches in LaLiga Santander.

Tour Down Under 2018 | Stage 4 Report - Duration: 3:57.
Anticipated as the wildcard stage of this year's Tour Down Under, Stage 4 featured
the brand new finish town of Uraidla and before that, (the climb of) Norton Summit.
An earlier start for the riders due to another incredibly hot day in South Australia. Two
riders went off the front early, they were Zak Dempster of Israel Cycling Academy and
Alex Porter of Bennelong Swiss Wellness, of course both riding this race in UNI-SA team
colours. They were let off the leash and had a lead
of 10 minutes by the time they rolled through the first intermediate sprint at Birdwood,
with Dempster crossing first. The peloton had been keeping things very steady a handful
of riders did contest third place Elia Viviani grabbed a couple more sprint points.
Shortly after, the 2nd intermediate sprint at Charleston was taken by Porter from his
breakaway buddy Dempster, Viviani again nabbed third place, albeit without too much of a
contest this time. Porter gave up soon after, while Dempster
stayed away until about 20km to go when he was absorbed and the peloton braced themselves
for Norton Summit. Miles Scotson of BMC was tasked with setting
a hard pace at the foot of the climb to dissuade attacks from other teams He peeled off to
allow new recruit Simon Gerrans to continue the tempo. This tactic was shedding riders
off the back at a steady rate - Caleb Ewan would not retain the ochre jersey for another
day, but even riders like Nathan Haas were finding the pace hard to deal with, with speeds
well over 30km/h uphill. The top of the climb arrived in a flash, with
Gerrans leading the reduced bunch of about 30 riders over the top, with Porte inching
his way up to grab a handful of King of the Mountains points.
A flurry of attacks ensued on the rolling roads towards the finish. Michael Valgren,
Lars Bak, Peter Sagan and Richie Porte all had a go in the run in to the finish line,
but couldn't find the separation. A short downhill saw riders surging to the
front to maintain as much momentum as possible. You don't often see too many seated bunch
sprints, but riders were spinning out in a desperate bid for more speed - Sagan had taken
the outside line with Daryl Impey, and it proved to work wonders - he spun it up that
little bit faster to take victory. INTERVIEW
Sagan becomes the first rider in Tour Down Under history to win a stage in the rainbow
bands, and he also takes the leader's ochre jersey to boot, albeit by a slender margin
of 2 seconds from Daryl Impey. As you can see from this extended list of
results, there are still plenty of riders in contention for the overall - a total of
33 riders within 14 seconds of the race lead. Nathan Haas isn't one of them - he was struggling
on Norton Summit and lost time amid those frenetic final kilometres.
So that means it's all to play for tomorrow - Stage 5, an integral part of the Tour Down
Under's history. Norton Summit might not have been hard enough to split the favourites
today, but 2 ascents of Willunga Hill certainly will - plus we're expecting temperatures
of a slightly more manageable 35º. We can't wait.
