Amazing Ball Bearing Motor - Huber Effect. Part 3 - Duration: 3:02.

Hello friends!

This video shows another engine operating under the Huber effect.

In the description of the clip there are links to the video where tests of similar motors are shown.

Unlike the previous engine, this motor has a coaxial arrangement of ball bearings

and a shaft made of non-magnetic material.

This motor does not contain any coils or magnets, yet it spins pretty fast.

It is believed that the instantaneous thermal expansion at the points of contact between the balls and the race gives torque to the balls.

But some scientists dispute this hypothesis.

During engine operation, the following parameters were obtained: the current consumed by the motor and the voltage drop across the motor.

To measure the current consumed was used a handmade shunt, assembled from ten resistors of 5 watts.

These data allowed calculating the power consumption, which was about 40 watts.

See you on the channel!

Update: Going Full Time - Duration: 2:43.

hey, welcome to 12tone! we need your help.

today is this channel's third birthday, and this last year has been a wild ride.

we've grown larger than I ever thought we would've, I've been invited to speak at academic

conferences, and I even got to share a stage with John Green at VidCon.

but most important of all, near the end of last year I took a leap of faith and quit

my teaching job to focus on making videos full-time, and I think that decision has paid

off: our videos have gotten longer and more in-depth, and we've been able to look at more

complex topics because I've had the time to research them.

the downside, though, is that these videos are now my only source of income, and you'd

be surprised how little google pays, even for hundreds of thousands of views per month.

I've been able to make it work, sort of, but I don't really know how long this is sustainable,

and that's where you come in.

we've had a patreon for a long time, but because I had other income it wasn't really a huge

deal.

but that's changed: if I'm gonna be able to make this full-time thing work, then patreon

is gonna be a crucial part of that, so if you can afford it I would really appreciate

any support you can throw our way.

for those of you who don't know, Patreon is a crowdfunding site, sort of like Kickstarter

but for ongoing projects.

you pledge a certain amount per month, and in exchange get perks like thanks in video

descriptions, sneak peeks of upcoming episodes, and the ability to suggest songs for our analysis

videos.

plus, we've recently revamped some of the higher tiers, including introducing an elephant

of the month club where we'll literally mail you a hand-drawn elephant every single month.

but most important of all, it's a way to help me afford to keep making this videos at the

pace and quality that I have been for the last three years.

to be clear, I'm not threatening to quit here: I made these videos for years basically for

free, and if necessary I'll keep doing that.

I love making them, and I have no intention of stopping.

but the demand it puts on my time keeps growing, and at some point this full-time experiment

is gonna have to end unless I can actually support myself with it.

all that said, I want to be very clear on one more thing: you don't owe me that support.

I'm deeply grateful for anything you're willing to pledge, but if you're not sure you can

afford it, or you just don't want to, that's totally fine.

the existence of free educational materials is really important to me, so I decided from

the very beginning to make all my work freely available, so that anyone who wanted to could

access it, and even if you don't pledge anything you can still help out just by watching and

sharing our work.

but the flip side of that is that, hopefully, people who see enough value in it and have

a couple bucks to spare will voluntarily donate so that we can keep making stuff forever,

because I really, really want to keep making stuff forever.

seriously, I can't believe I get to do this.

it's surreal.

anyway, thanks for watching, and I promise these sorts of pledge drive videos won't become

a regular feature of the channel.

there's a link to our patreon in the description if you want to check it out, though, and as

always, keep on rockin'.

SPOTTED in Nice by one of my subscriber ! - Duration: 6:01.

Who wants chocolate?

Hey there, welcome back to my channel, Celine here.

Today is not going to be a tutorial or a review, et bien non, it's vlogging Monday my friends.

And for this quick trip to Nice (it's just a week end because we will be attending a

wedding) I took my drone, my Sony camera and my GoPro.

I didn't have the chance to take my Osmo Mobile 2; I don't even know if I'll be able to use my drone in such a short time.

But that's ok, I'll try to make the most of it and show you around the best way I can.

Let me tell you something about South of France !

Nice, in the Cote Azur is one of the principal and most popular cities of France.

It inspires a way of life that is typically Mediterranean, making Nice a favorite tourist

destination.

In 2015, over 11 million tourists came to visit Nice.

this is how I work

you won't believe what just happened !

I still can't believe what happened !

I was sightseeing in Nice with my husband and my son and someone came to me and before he was about to talk

I figure, sure he wants me to take a photo of him and his wife

But No ! This man came to me and said "are you Celine from iCeline"?

Let me introduce you to René

René is from...Germany

What?!?!

He is one of my subscribers on Youtube !

I don't have many followers but I'm so glad I have met you René here !

And this makes me realize something VERY very important.

This is why I'm making videos on YT, Of course I love electronics, I enjoy filming AND editing.

But most of all, I get to meet people from ALL around the world. People I would never have met otherwise!

And finally , in the end, in our short lives, objects do not matter, we should stop being materialistic.

it's meeting great people and enjoying our lives with our friends and family, that what's matter. Think about it !

How long are you here in Nice for?

9 days ! Oh Lucky you ! We're only here for the week end !

Enjoy your holiday and in a couple of days you'll see yourself on Youtube !

So to René and your wife Dorit, it was a pleasure to meet you!

Now, let's go back to our little visit

The city has many points of interest: – The Promenade des Anglais on the waterfront

with large hotels and a casino, – The city center, the square, and Masséna

Street, making up the heart of the modern city,

– the Vieux Nice—Nice's Old Town—and Castle Hill both dominate the two parts of

the town and overlook the Mediterranean,

I love the view but what I like here most is shopping.

I know , me too, I wish I could make a longer video but I need to get ready for the pool

party !

Leave a comment, it's always a pleasure to read from you.

Smash the thumbs up and Abonne-toi !

I'm wishing you a great Monday, take care ! Salut :-)

The Haddon Matrix - Ep. 45 - Duration: 4:22.

In today's episode, I'm going to look at a framework from the injury prevention literature

and apply it to how a software team prevents and deals with an outage.

Think about the inventions and innovations that make bad or dangerous behavior impossible

or nearly so: medicine bottles with childproof caps, cars that won't shift out of park unless

your foot is on the brake.

These innovations were created for injury prevention.

To minimize the risk of bad outcomes, experts in injury-prevention rely on a framework called

the Haddon Matrix.

This framework provides a way to think about accidents by allowing you to focus on three

periods of time: pre-event, event, and post-event.

The Haddon Matrix is also useful for thinking about preventing, handling, and recovering

from other types of situations that aren't necessarily life-threatening.

For example, a software team that owns a web service may want to think through the kinds

of problems that could take their service off-line and what they'd do about it.

Step 1: Think about the pre-event.

What are some reasons the site could go down and what could we have done to prevent

them?

The team may have pushed a bad code change.

The physical hardware their service was running on failed.

Or maybe the system became overloaded with unanticipated demand.

We could prevent most bad code changes through code review or pairing, having automated tests,

eliminating any manual steps from deployment so that deployment is safe and repeatable,

and having strong monitoring in place to catch problems before they affect customers and

automatically roll them back.

We could prevent physical hardware failures from affecting customers through redundancy.

We could have a second host in a different region with an automatic fast failover mechanism.

We could avoid failing under greater load by buying more hardware resources than we

currently need, or better yet, through the use of elastic cloud computing resources.

We could also load test our software before we release it.

Step 2: Think about the event.

What could we do in the moment to minimize the damage?

In the case of a site outage due to bad code change, we could make it easy to do a manual

rollback.

For hardware failure, as in the prevention case, we could have a second system to manually

fail-over to in the moment.

In the face of demand exceeding capacity, having a way to scale up resources on demand

would help.

In all three cases, having monitoring and logging that helps you find the cause of the

outage is critical, as is having runlists or standard operating procedures for dealing

with these kinds of outages in a calm manner that doesn't put things in an even worse state.

A critical part of these is having a proper on call rotation with well-trained operations

people.

Step 3: Think about the post-event.

This may be about having a mechanism in place to ensure it doesn't repeat, such as having

an event post-mortem as part of your process and taking action on the lessons that come

out of the post-mortem.

Thinking about the post-event scenarios may also help focus on the cost to the company

of losing customer trust and potentially having to compensate customers for the downtime.

An honest assessment of the costs and risks may help with prioritizing some event and

pre-event activities like investing in redundant hardware, or monitoring, or a continuous delivery

system.

The beauty of the Haddon Matrix is that it helps you think of environmental solutions

rather than relying exclusively on carrots and sticks.

In this exercise, we created a robust plan against site outages without thinking about

the team's Riders and Elephants.

We simply tweaked the environment to help make the negative outcome less likely.
