Youtube daily report Jul 5 2018

Hey, this is Jonathan Vaughters, and I'm going to explain to you

exactly how teamwork applies to cycling and how cycling

really is a team sport and not an individual sport.

So the first thing you have to understand is that the biggest

component in cycling that changes it into a very tactical

and strategic sport, as opposed to a sport of pure strength,

is the concept of drafting. Drafting is simply when one rider

rides behind another one. The first rider, you'll see, is the one

cutting through the wind. This rider back here is saving

30-40% energy compared to this rider. And as you get further back

and there are more riders in front of you, the energy savings

can get higher and higher and higher. So, when we talk about teamwork,

we're talking about when you are going to expend the energy of the

eight different riders on each team in the Tour de France.

Now the first thing you have to understand about that, is that like

any other team sport, we have different positions for different riders,

there are certain riders that have a certain role in the race,

and there are other riders that have another role in the race.

And interestingly, most of the riders on the team are

not actually trying to win the race themselves. They're actually

trying to help somebody else win the race.

The best analogy that I can use for that is it's like a rocket ship.

And so, with a rocket ship, and I'm a really, really poor artist here,

with a rocket ship you have different stages of the rocket,

and as the rocket goes up into space, each stage uses up its fuel

to get the objective of getting this satellite, or this man to the moon

or whatever it is at the top, so lets call this… this is the team leader

right here. This guy, just one person, and his objective

is to win the race. Now down here, these guys, this is two to three

riders on your team, and what they're trying to do is basically

minimize the amount of work that this rider has to do,

when I say work, I mean time in the wind, literally minimize his effort

as much as they possibly can for the early part of the race.

So if he has a flat tire, these guys, they wait for him.

If he needs a water bottle, they wait for him.

If he needs a rain jacket, they go and get it for him.

So that's their job, and they're probably using up almost

all of their energy, so that stage gets cutoff, well lets say

about halfway, or maybe two-thirds of the way through the race.

They're done. The second part of the rocket, and these riders

are a little bit more crucial. And again, two to three riders,

these guys, their job is to really follow the team leader around

and keep him out of the wind, and when I say out of the wind, I mean

in the draft, as much as they possibly can, all the way to the

waning, waning moments of the race. So they're using up their fuel,

unlike these guys where they're pretty much done,

they're not done with the race, they still have to finish,

but they, they kind of creep their way in the

last half or the last third of the race. These guys are trying to

carry him to the waning moments of the race, maybe the last

10k, maybe the last kilometre, whatever that might be,

depending on the type of race it is, but they're using up their fuel

for the first three-quarters, or almost 95% of their race.

And then that leads to this guy. And this guy, his job is basically

to conserve as much energy as he possibly can, until just right before

the finish line, or just before the last mountain of the race.

And that's when he starts racing to actually win the deal,

or close the job. So that's how teamwork works in cycling,

different riders with different positions.

I know you'd feel kind of sorry about for these guys down here,

but this is the job they love, and these guys right here,

they're probably just as strong as the team leader,

but they prefer helping other people. You know,

different people have different attributes, different psychology,

and the thing to understand is that if this guy wins,

the prize money that he gets for winning the race is split

equally among all the team members.

Bike Shorts: The Role of the Domestique - Duration: 1:41.

So, like we've talked about earlier,

a cycling team has different people that have

different jobs during the race.

The races are 200-260km long, so they're lasting

five, six, seven hours. In a lot of that time,

the only job of the guy who is trying to win the race

or the team leader is just to sit in the draft

and to save as much energy as possible.

But that means the rest of the team has to be really active

in protecting his interest and making sure that

he doesn't have to use up any of his own energy early on.

And the guys who do that are called, in French, domestiques.

Now, I don't really love the term domestique because

it means servant or maid. What I prefer instead is the Spanish version

of that, or the Italian version of that, which is gregario,

and that comes from the Latin base word of gregarious,

and what it means is basically like your best friend,

someone who'll always be there next to you,

someone who'll always be there to help you.

And that's what these guys do for the team leader.

They may be athletically every bit as strong as the team leader,

it's just that psychologically they don't like the pressure of

having to close the deal. They don't like the pressure of

having to be the one that everyone is looking to towards winning.

They just want to be the one who can help somebody else win.

Figuring out the sociological dynamic of that inside of a team

is a difficult thing to do.

But that's what the job of the Team Manager is.

Bike Shorts: What's an Echelon? - Duration: 1:40.

The next fun thing to understand is a little bit more of an advance

concept of drafting than we just talked about,

and it is called an echelon. So an echelon, is when you have a

really strong crosswind. When you have a really strong crosswind,

the draft isn't directly behind the rider in front of you,

instead the draft is sideways. And so you'll see the riders

fan across the road. Well the problem is when there is a straight wind,

a headwind, a tailwind, or no wind, you can pretty much draft

as many people as you want all the way back to 200, even 300

one person gets the draft, two people get the draft, three people

get the draft, because the wind is coming like this,

then all of a sudden there is this guy right here,

he's not in the draft anymore because of the crosswind,

and after a very short period of time, he'll no longer

be able to keep up with this front group. He'll literally get cut off,

because he isn't in the draft, and he'll drop far behind.

So what you try to do as a team, is at crucial moments in the race

where there is a strong crosswind, you try to bring the entire team

to the very front of the race, and actually start rotating among

the team members here, trying to cut off all the other teams

from the draft, and you do it suddenly and sharply, so that they are

taken by surprise, and are unable to react quickly.

-------------------------------------------

Bike Shorts: What's a Peloton? - Duration: 2:11.

So, when you're watching a cycling race,

you'll hear the announcers a lot of times

talking about the peloton. Now the peloton, all that means,

well it's actually derived from the Latin root word,

which is translated into Spanish or I think Italian, pelota,

which means ball. And it just means the big mass of riders.

So if here's the road, you'll see the majority of the riders

in the race in sort of a big blob coming down the road.

These guys up here are working hard, and these guys

back here are drafting. But that's the main body of riders,

that's probably 80%, 90%, maybe even 100% of the riders in the race.

Then, every once in a while, or actually quite often,

in most races you'll notice some riders that are up here,

trying to get away from the peloton. Well, of course they're trying

to get away from the peloton, they're trying to win.

But most of the time this is actually a strategic move,

almost like in chess, where the Team Managers or the riders themselves

are deciding to accelerate sharply away from the peloton to try to

force the other teams to try to chase them down.

That's making the other teams use their energy to chase

these guys down because if they don't,

then they will go off and win the race.

The breakaway probably only wins one out of every 50 times,

maybe, maybe a little more often. Most of the time, the peloton,

because there are more riders, there is more horsepower,

and there is more motivation, they're able to bring back the breakaway.

But it's a little bit like chess, in that sometimes

you'll decide as a Team Manager to sacrifice one

of your pawns up here, to be able to push and force the other teams

to chase them down, whereas the other teams are forced to

sacrifice their pawns in order to bring that breakaway back.

That's essentially what a breakaway is, and I'm a big fan of

being the one that always puts the guy out front and forces

the other teams on the back foot.

Vann R. Newkirk II - Martin Luther King Jr.'s Real Legacy | The Daily Show - Duration: 10:04.

My guest tonight is an amazing writer at The Atlantic

who helped produce a special commemorative issue

of the magazine called "King"--

a look at the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Please welcome Vann Newkirk.

(applause and cheering)

-Welcome to the show. -Thanks for having me.

Man, I've been a fan of your writing for so long.

You touch on so many different topics,

you know, from Black Panther through to, uh,

racism in America, the Second Amendment.

One of the more interesting, uh, conversations

that I got started because of your writing

was specifically about teachers being armed,

and you argued that in its very essence,

it goes against the Second Amendment.

Why would you make that argument?

Yeah, so, the Second Amendment is supposed to be this thing

-that, uh, protects people from the government. -Right.

The whole entire ethos of it is,

you get people, you give them guns,

and you give them guns so they can build a militia

to protect themselves against tyranny.

Right.

And so, you have teachers, who are state agents, right--

paid by the state-- who are taking care of our kids,

who have sometimes done bad things to those kids,

and you're giving 'em guns.

-Uh, so, especially in Florida... -Right, right.

You have a guy who was known

to use the "N" word with his students,

and was suspended for doing it.

-You give that guy a gun. For what? -Right.

-That's the tyrannical government. -Yeah.

I never thought of that as an idea. I go...

Like, but, you know, it's one of those ideas

where people go, "Like, this seems like a good idea

because everything leads to more guns."

You go like, "Just give the people more guns,

"and then it solves the guns,

-because if everyone has a gun..." -Right.

then I guess it means no one has a gun."

-I don't know how it works. -Well, I give my gun a gun.

-Yeah, you give your gun a gun. -Yeah.

That's the most important... 'Cause guns don't kill people.

-Right. -People kill people, so if you give the peo...

What about guns killing guns?

I-I don't think a gun has ever...

A gun has killed a gun. I saw that in a movie once.

-The gun shot the gun, and the gun... -Yeah.

No one talks about gun-on-gun violence.

(laughter)

You have an interesting way of looking at the world,

and this issue of The Atlantic, I think,

looks at Martin Luther King from so many different places

and through so many different lenses,

which I really found interesting.

Martin Luther King is one of those figures in America

that I've always felt is mythologized,

and oftentimes misunderstood.

And it feels like you've captured that in this article.

Why did you think it was necessary

to have an entire article about Martin Luther King, Jr.?

So, what we want to do is challenge people, you know?

We want people to read every single article in this issue

-and come away thinking about something new. -Right.

Something they had never thought about,

something they never even fathomed about Dr. King.

And what that does as a whole is...

So many times, politicians bring up,

or people who have an agenda bring up Dr. King.

They quote the "Dream" speech.

They do the same thing.

Okay, you want us to live in a colorblind society

where our kids can go to school together.

They quote this one part, but they don't quote the part

about him being against the Vietnam War.

They don't say, uh, his speech,

his "Letter from Birmingham Jail,"

where he talks about the white moderate.

And nobody asks themselves, "Am I the white moderate?"

-Right. -So nobody...

Everybody now is pro King, and not racist,

but nobody's reading King now for how to be anti-racist.

It's interesting that you say that,

because there was a specific article,

or piece of it, that connected with me

written by you.

In this... and it was...

specifically about the idea of Martin Luther King

and his assassination, and you say here,

"In the official story told to children,

"King's assassination is the transformational tragedy

"in a victorious struggle to overcome.

"But in the true accounting, his assassination

"was one of a host of reactionary assaults

"by a country against a revolution,

and those assaults were astonishingly successful."

-Yeah. -That's an interesting point of view,

'cause many people feel like

Martin Luther King being assassinated

was the beginning of the great journey

that got black people to where they needed to be.

And you're arguing that it ended a revolution that was starting.

How do you prove that? Or why do you believe that?

So, I remember when I was in school

and I had a teacher who told me, straight up,

that the civil rights movement was victorious,

-Right. -that we won, that we... we won.

And what I could never reconcile was, how did we win

if Dr. King was assassinated while protesting?

How did we win the civil rights movement,

how were we victorious if while protesting

for higher wages for sanitation workers in Memphis,

he was assassinated,

-Right. -and his poor people's movement was derailed?

So, I always want to revisit that point,

and so when I wrote that essay,

I was listening to Nina Simone's song,

"Why (The King of Love Is Dead)"

-Right. -She wrote it three days after he was assassinated.

And she's talking about, will the country stand or fall?

She's talking about a country

that seemed then on the verge of an apocalypse.

-Right. -And so I really wanted to go back to that moment

and see how we get from that moment,

where you're talking about the end of the world,

the black community in shambles, in tears, in unrest and riots,

and how you go from there to here, 50 years, and say we won.

How does that happen?

People would say: But, Vann, look at how much progress

black people have made since Martin Luther King.

Surely things have gotten better.

Black people are on the up in America.

Well, some studies are showing that that may not be the case.

So we've got some studies out

from the Economic Policy Institute that are saying

that black wealth, black home ownership rates,

segregation in schools haven't gone anywhere in 50 years.

-50 years? -In 50 years.

So what are we talking about here?

We're saying that the gap between blacks and whites now

in terms of wealth is just so staggering

that it's... how do you even build policy to bridge that gap?

Uh... education has risen,

but our kids are now in schools that are as segregated

as they were in 1970.

So what are we talking about?

That's an interesting point of view,

and I guess, I know a lot of people argue back on that,

and they'll say, "Well, I mean, Obama became president, Vann,

so, I mean, uh, that's progress, isn't it?"

Yeah. Obama was president, uh, eight years,

and now will we ever have another black president?

Will you ever have another president,

-is the question I ask. -(laughter)

Um... here's something that I really connected with,

and I guess, because of South Africa's history,

and also because it is International Women's Day,

is this beautiful quote in the-in the article.

"Women have been the backbone

"of the whole Civil Rights movement.

"This popular narrative of the Civil Rights movement

"too often relies on great men,

"the great men version of history.

"King, Malcolm X, Thurgood Marshall,

"Stokely Carmichael, other names, you know,

"and it ignores the importance of women

"who also organized and led the movement,

"and shows how their contributions

have been sidelined, hidden in plain sight."

That is a powerful narrative that many people forget,

and that is Coretta Scott King wasn't just a sidekick.

She wasn't just the woman at home.

Why do you think it's so important

to acknowledge these women, and what were they instrumental

in doing in many movements?

Yeah. I learned a lot reading

that essay from Jean D.O. Harris.

She was talking about Coretta, Coretta Scott King,

and how Martin's development, politically,

came from conversation with Coretta.

So a lot of what he was doing

was sort of mansplaining Coretta, right?

He was going out and saying,

okay, she was against the Vietnam War years before he was.

-Wow. -She, when they were courting each other,

and, uh, and when they were still dating,

she was the one who was sort of giving him these economic ideas,

passing him along text about what to read

and how to learn and grow.

So you look at-- if you look at Coretta, Coretta Scott King,

not just as King's helpmate,

as someone who was an activist in her own right,

you start looking at just all these other women

in the movement who did so much:

Rosa Parks, who was an operative.

We're taught in school that she was

a tired old lady who sat down.

She was out there, she built the same organizing structures

that, actually, King relied on when he was doing the boycotts.

Those were built by black women against sexual assault.

-That's powerful. -The same things, yeah.

So when you, when you look at these stories,

how do you think it plays out?

Because Martin Luther King exists in a place

where some people use him to stage a protest,

and others go, "we should use him to sell trucks in America."

Um, everyone sees him in a different light.

If Martin Luther King were around today,

from what you have read and what you've learned,

like, how happy do you think he would be?

Would he think people have reached a mountaintop?

I think, from reading him,

his thing was never being satisfied

with where we are, because there's always space.

A mountaintop, in that speech,

wasn't the place where we need to be in terms of race.

The mountaintop was having the vision

to see where we needed to go, and, I think, that vision

was that the road is ever, everlasting.

The moral arc of the universe

is-is always bending towards justice, and we bend it.

So I-I think King would, he would be protesting,

regardless of whatever situation

is on the ground right now in America,

he would be protesting, 'cause that's what he does.

That's what an activist does, they're always agitating.

And so that's what I want people to take away from the magazine,

is that his activism was always at agitating.

It was always moving forward, and progressing.

And you see in the last year of his life,

-before he was assassinated, -Right.

he sat down and thought, "How do I move this forward?"

And he came forward with the most ambitious program

to fight poverty, to fight militarism,

and to fight racism across the globe.

And that was King.

That was King.

It's an amazing article.

-Thank you so much for being here. -Thank you.

It's an amazing issue of The Atlantic.

S. Korea to spend extra US$ 800 mil. to raise birth ratres - Duration: 2:08.

Dipping birthrate has been and still is a major issue here in the nation.

Numerous efforts to reverse the trend... came up short.

Undeterred, the government has devised a new approach.

Kan Hyeong-woo explains how it would work.

With South Korea's birth rate in freefall, the government has decided to increase benefits

for parents to improve their quality of life and encourage people to start families.

The Presidential Committee on Ageing Society and Population Policy announced on Thursday

that the government will try to give parents a better work-life balance... by making more

of them eligible for benefits and by providing greater financial support.

"First and foremost, the new policies aim to make life easier for people who decide

to have children.

We also made sure to come up with policies that can be implemented as soon as next year."

The government plans to add 800 million U.S. dollars to next year's budget to pay for baby

bonuses, medical care, parental leave and other support.

In the past, parents who didn't have employment insurance couldn't get certain benefits, but

that requirement will be scrapped.

If any couple has a new child, they'll get about 13-hundred U.S. dollars over a three-month

period.

Single parents will also get more support.

Monthly financial aid for each child will go up by 30 percent, and the benefits will

continue until the child is 18, up from the current limit of 14.

Experts say, though, that it'll take some time for these measures to have an effect

on the birth rate.

"As of right now, it would be unrealistic to expect the low birth rate problem to be

solved in a short period.

Issues like this require a long-term perspective."

Last year, South Korea recorded its lowest ever birth rate of one-point-zero-five births

per woman.

And in 2016, it had the lowest fertility rate in the OECD.

They country has tried for years to reverse this trend but to no avail.

The government's proposals will now be passed to the Ministry of Strategy and Finance for

approval and then to the National Assembly.

is TAIWAN part of CHINA? - The TRUTH BASED ON FACTS 2018 - Duration: 16:13.

Today we are going to look at the mythical island of

Taiwan whom most countries on earth say just does not exist

But it does and today I'll be filtering through all the smoke and mirrors

The propaganda from the media and the diplomatic routes to get to the bottom of what is this mystery we call

Taiwan all my research links are in the description it disagree with my conclusion

Let's get started

Taiwan is an island 180 kilometers off the east coast of China

Taipei the capital of Taiwan is a modern metropolis with Japanese colonial lanes busy shopping streets and

contemporary buildings

Militarily Taiwan is at the center of the United States first island chain of containment strategy

The second island chain will be used to defend Taiwan if needed when you look at Taiwan from a military standpoint

Geographically, it's easy to see why this island is the center of us-china battle for maritime dominance

The Japanese see Taiwan vital to their defence strategy as an aggressive neighbor from the south would be difficult to repel

Taiwan is also positioned perfectly to cut off supply lines to China's Island military bases in the South China Sea

the Taipei Times conducted a survey 80% of the inhabitants of Taiwan see themselves as Taiwanese and

Only eight point one percent see themselves as Chinese, even though the Chinese Communist Party claims Taiwan is part of China

Taiwan's inhabitants clearly do not see themselves as Chinese rather. They see themselves as an independent

democratic country

The Chinese Communist Party says that Taiwan is part of China

Simply because the people are ethnically Han Chinese. Well, that's just not exactly accurate

Taiwanese are ethnically and racially

Distinct from Chinese because of intermarriage with the Taiwanese originals these Taiwanese

Aboriginals used to kill the Chinese invaders throughout history and keep their skulls as trophies

and even if the island of Taiwan was populated by Han Chinese

It's like saying that America is owned by the UK simply because they're predominantly white anglo-saxon

ridiculous and

also if saying that Taiwan is

Predominantly Han Chinese gives the Chinese Communist Party the right to take control of the island of Taiwan

Then this argument should be a warning to all countries that allow Chinese immigration. Let me explain

imagine immigration of Han Chinese hits a critical mass in your country

Then the CCP could in theory make the same claim on your country, too

Then the sovereignty of your country will be put in the question the same way

Taiwan is right now

Australia is clearly a test case for this strategy by the Chinese Communist Party therefore protecting Taiwan's democracy in end of

Independence is just as much of an importance of national security to Australia as

Australia's sovereignty will be the next target for the Chinese Communist Party

one u.s. Dollar

Equals 30 new Taiwan dollars a regular cappuccino will cost say 17 new Taiwan dollars, which is quite cheap

Taiwan's Gini coefficient is 33 one point better than Australia which shows that

Taiwan's equal distribution of wealth is world class

GDP of five hundred and seventy one billion with imports and exports

Dominated by China at 26 point one percent and twenty six point six percent of GDP, respectively

taiwan is ranked 16th in the world for internet speed and has free universal health care for all and

is one of the only progressive countries in asia that fully accepts the

LGBT community and is also in the process of legitimizing

same-sex marriage

taiwan announced an ambitious

59 billion dollar investment in renewable energies also taiwan in

2016 elected their first female president which is in contrast to most asian countries

Which are mostly male-dominated and women do not have equal rights in most countries in Asia

But it's not all good news for Taiwan. You see a lot of twitch streamers and

Youtubers have recently been making videos in Taiwan and the Taiwanese media has been very xenophobic

against white males making videos in Taiwan

Has become quite a big problem in Taiwan in recent years. I

Found evidence of China itself inadvertently

Recognizing Taiwan as an independent country in 2013 the a and Z

Tec this

Convoluted agreement using a New Zealand as a proxy was in fact an agreement between Taiwan and China through the World Trade Organization

It was written in English

So the average Chinese could not read it and was not signed by any politicians in in order to avoid China

recognizing Taiwan's sovereignty

Officially full PDF in the description if you want to check it out

President Donald Trump said the trans-pacific partnership

Was a bad deal for the u.s. All countries who are signatories to the TPP were and still are baffled

Experts believe that President Trump wants a better deal economically for the US, but I've got a better theory

Taiwan is not included in the TPP due to China's aggression yet

The TPP would be valuable in bringing Taiwan

Economically closer to its neighbors and in turn closer to the US

I believe that President Donald Trump wants Taiwan to be included in the trans-pacific partnership

Before the u.s. Agrees to it

According to the Taipei Times Taiwan wants to be included in the TPP

So this theory has real validity

Taiwan has a strong democracy and is far more aware of the danger posed by Chinese

Investment best portrayed by the sound flower student movement. March 18 2014

This protest was triggered by the cross-strait service trade agreement which Taiwan signed with China

June 21st to 13 which allowed Chinese businesses more access to the Chinese economy

The Taiwanese understand how the Chinese operate five deeply than anyone in the Western world

They fear that the Chinese government would gradually destroy their economy and ultimately their freedoms

So the sunflower movement was born between March 18th and April 10th

2014

Taiwanese students and academics occupied the Taiwanese Parliament for 23 days to protest

3 million dollars in damages were incurred

400 people were investigated in the aftermath all

Protesters were found not guilty due to freedom of speech and their rights to protest

Which contrasts what happened in Hong Kong?

I won't go into depth about the umbrella movement

But put simply there were protests against the Chinese Communist Party taking away Hong Kong's already flimsy democratic freedoms

the CCP arrested used violence and oppression against the umbrella movement in Hong Kong even

To this day the people on mainland China are unaware of what happened in Hong Kong this type of oppression is what the Taiwanese people

Fear if the CCP was to occupy Taiwan Taiwan's democracy is quite solid

It's a democracy that should be admired respected and protected

I would also like to add that if this had happened in Australia

The Chinese government would have caught it racist. But the Chinese could not call the Taiwanese racist as they are ethnically Asian

people in Australia fear saying anything against China as they can be oppressed as a

Racist even the Australian media is stupid enough to perpetuate these false myths which is propaganda used by the CCP

When in fact the CCP uses tribalism to influence Western countries constantly?

Personally, I'd like to see Canada recognize Taiwan's independence

Scene as Justin Trudeau is so good at virtue signaling

The problem is recognizing Taiwan as an independent country is far too risky these days due to China's aggression

earlier in

2018 20 countries recognized Taiwan first to May

2018 it was reduced to 19 as the Dominican Republic received between

3.1 and 4 billion USD from the Chinese Communist Party to close down the Taiwan embassy in the Dominican Republic

Here's a list of the countries which still recognize Taiwan

China's plan is to give money to each of these remaining countries in return the condition is they cut ties with Taiwan

We call this checkbook diplomacy and works quite effectively with corrupt third world countries

Taiwan says it's okay to recognize both Taiwan and China

Yet China wants to totally

isolate Taiwan

politically in

1972 Richard Nixon announced that Taiwan was part of China when he met Mao Zedong

in

1979 Washington declared Taiwan an entity whatever that means

37 years later on December 3rd

2016

President of the United States Donald Trump gave Taiwan the legitimacy

It had been hoping for by receiving a phone call from the female president of Taiwan

Tie in when?

Which China condemned the Taiwanese president simply called to congratulate Donald Trump on his election win?

Trump sealed it with a tweet. Of course he did but this was more than just receiving a call

It was a strong signal that the current administration

Was committed to Taiwan's independence

Now here's something about you. Didn't know On June 12

2018 when the entire world's eyes were fixed on the Singapore summit between Kim jong-un and Donald Trump where the

Denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula was on the agenda

The u.s. Quietly opened the American Institute in Taiwan

The American Institute entire one is just a covert name for embassy

That's right, 46 years since Nixon declared Taiwan doesn't exist

It would seem that Yunnan. The United States is about to support Taiwanese independence

publicly a

spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that

Reopening of the Institute would have a negative impact on us-china

relations then China conducted

Live-fire military drills off the coast of Taiwan. Once again threatening Taiwan with the always present threat of

Chinese invasion

back in

2015 satellite images showed that the Chinese military had built a replica of chart of Taiwan's

presidential office building in the PLA were practicing the invasion of Taiwan

the fact China

constantly threatens to invade Taiwan and has possibly millions of people died in the process is

More evidence that Taiwan is not China

It's like Washington's threatening to invade, California

Which is just ridiculous because California is a state in the US and this would never happen

In more recent years the Chinese people have become more aggressive

knowing their government has a strong military has given them the backbone to simply assault people who disagree with them politically a

British man was bashed by a group of Chinese and lost the tooth simply because he had a Taiwanese flag

tattered

Even underage girls are not immune to the Chinese people's disgusting behavior as a 16 year old

Taiwanese singer was sent death threats by Chinese people for simply holding a Taiwanese flag

She later was forced to apologize

Online as you can see by the thumbs down the international community disagrees with China's aggression

Domestically China has been financially backing criminal gangs like the bamboo

Union gang and the political party Chinese unity promotion party

See you PP

Which is headed by the white wolf

the Cu PP has allegedly been assaulting students and one member recently was found guilty for

Dismembering his girlfriend into little pieces

The problem is the Chinese people are living in a bubble created by the China and Chinese Communist Party

Due to the Great Firewall of China their ability to access the outside world is limited

most Chinese are totally unaware what their government is really doing abroad and

unaware of the bad reputation the Chinese people hold receiving

also when Chinese people are challenged in any way they

Instantly go on the defensive and become angry. There is also no reasoning with most Chinese people

So I can see this ending badly for every country in Asia as China has the political will to continue its military expansion

throughout Asia

This is the main reason why the world's economies are slowing as each country is spending money on

Weapons to balance China's expanse instead of spending money domestically so that people can have better lives

Japan South Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia USA, India

Australia have all increased their military spending due to the South China Sea and the real threat China poses

All these countries have had a drop in their standards of living simply because the funds have to be spent on defense

tariffs and trade wars are all a

Domino effect of China's aggression and it will only get worse just so you know why your economy is slowing?

It's entirely China's doing in conclusion

Taiwan is not part of China today

But tomorrow they could choose to be dissolved into the Chinese system and change their collective minds

It's entirely up to the people of Taiwan to choose their own destiny

Hopefully change does not come as a result of bloodshed though

Elite: dangerous comms facility HR 1172 hunter and hunted - Duration: 7:29.

Hello its Ricardo and welcome back to elite dangerous comms facility eight

nine five six three is my current position and destination in the hip one

one seven two system now we are looking for planet a five B alpha Bravo number

five now this is a military comms facility it would appear it's been

attacked by thyroids the fur Gauri's that again torn up as they are going on

with all these of the sites but there are also materials littered around the

area for you to pick up there was chemical manipulators there were shield

emitters there was focus crystals heavy composites things like that so if you're

in the market for all those materials then hang around one of the sites keep

resetting keep doing the the board swap and you could pick up and stock up on

those materials and make sure your stores in your ship fully stocked up for

any additional engineering pretty uninspiring we're going to play the logs

at the end of this video as i've done with the entire series however the level

of destruction doesn't really warrant in my opinion what's going on in the logs

now it does tell us the tests tell a tale of being discovered by our third

grade friends and the third grade friends following

them back so tracking them stalking them and this could possibly be a new way or

gameplay within the game where you will end up being chased by thyroids should

they get onto now that would be something because final easy for us all

just a FSD out of the game and you know and not be pursued a couple of jumps and

you're gone the third grade should be able to track us

that would add I think any dimension you can be able to get data here as well

like you have in all the other sites but as an app data some materials there's

four logs to pick up as well so that's what you're into if you're gonna travel

to this site now these sites seem to be very much the same I'm doing it

basically for the story and the computer store you see what's happened however

you know a little bit of variation wouldn't have gone amiss

in my opinion so I'm going to play the logs I'll be quiet and we'll come back

after the video we've been monitoring columns chatter for over a week and it's

clear the reports of anomalous activity are more than just rumors something's

out there and it's harassing civilian traffic there are patrols have spotted

anything but after collating data from coms recon we've been able to

triangulate a rough location I'm just patching the Scout wing to see

if they can find anything it's probably just pirates or smugglers

on a dry run but you can't be too careful

I have an update on a previous dispatch Admiral the communications officer lost

contact with our Scout wing not just columns but sensors too they just

disappeared the only thing we managed to pick up as part of a flight recording

let me run the decryption for you

where that with the helmet it come from playing hard points all pilots to attack

formation this thing could be hostile

Judy copied sigma3 won't you attack right there me control

we've not identified booty ready

nothing for 12 hours then at oh three hundred the scanners picked up an

incoming vessel calms identify data sigma2 from the scout wing coming in hot

all integrity at around five percent it was a rough landing I scrambled the

ground crew and they just managed to cut the pilot out before the auxiliary fuel

line blew we couldn't get much out of him not much that made sense anyway she

battled something about an alien ship before the medic sedated him my guess he

was delirious on account of oxygen deprivation as soon as I have more I

will relay it immediately

Mateusz wake signal it came out of nowhere and somehow five past our early

warning systems the facility's automated defenses went down before we knew what

hit us I scrambled every fighter we had but it was on us before a single one

could launch

I'm watching the scanners now and it's coming in for a second path life support

is down 20% we're not going to survive another attack if you receive this

message you have to get the word out they're coming

we need to be ready to fight back so there you have it the thyroids attacked

when their fleet was decimated they followed the guy back through hyperspace

the reference range back here no help came and they got absolutely decimated

when I logged out log back in on PC the thighbone showed up started bombing the

base but no real damage was made it was an in-game set piece missing tag at you

that would be nice touches but if you were driving around still in the fog

targeted you and made things bit more precarious and picking up some of those

materials now all that being said we are where we are these set pieces we all

don't buy there being no in-game story now there's been so far 10 of them that

have been discovered now like you or leave it

this is what we're stuck with a little bit more in-depth bit more thought I

think would have made these experiences a bit better

chain link them together a bit better whether there's more coming in chapter 2

we don't know their savings after chapter 3 we'll have to wait and see

anyway I've been Ricardo I will leave you here to see me fumbling around

trying to get materials and I'm on to the next base which is going to be a

penal colony in the hip 162 one seven sister thanks very much for watching

your continued support is well welcome look at the discord like and subscribe

if you like what you're seeing and fly safe and enjoy Chapter two

you

Neymar has spent nearly 14 minutes on the floor at the World Cup - Duration: 2:42.

Neymar has won few fans with his antics at the in and a new study is unlikely to win the star any more

The forward has been slated, especially in Britain, for diving and exaggerating fouls during the tournament

The backlash reached new heights following 's last-16 victory over , where he reacted by rolling around in over-dramatic fashion after a late challenge from Miguel Layun

And new data, collated by Swiss broadcaster RTS, has revealed just what an incredible amount of time Neymar has spent lying on the turf 'in agony' so far in

Despite only playing four matches - 360 minutes of football - the 26-year-old has spent almost 14 of those on the deck

That amounts to a grand 340 seconds or three-and-a-half minutes per game. The study also showed Neymar spent a whopping five minutes and 30 seconds writhing around on the ground against alone

The former Barcelona has been slammed by fans, pundits and fellow professionals and there is no doubt all eyes will be on him during Friday's quarter-final showdown with Belgium

Expectations will be sky high for Tite's men, with the South Americans just three wins away from a first title since 2002

They will face France or Uruguay should they beat the Belgians, before the final in Moscow against one of , Croatia, Sweden or England

[ENG SUB][RECIPE] How to make tsuyu sauce(Choi Hwa-jeong Noodles) 이제이레시피/EJ recipe - Duration: 3:56.

First, roast an onion and some spring onions

It tastes much better when you roast them

Put all the ingredients except katusobuzhi in a sauce pan and boil them

Ten minutes after when it started to boil, put the katsuobushi and turn off the stove

Leave it for another 10 mins like that.

Sift all the ingredients through a sieve

The sifted soy sauce is tsuyu sauce

We are going to make a simple Choi Hwa-jeong noodles today with this sauce!

Chop some red and chillies

Mix tsuyu and water in the 1:1 ratio with some ice

Put some noodles in boiling water

When it boils, pour some cold water and repeat this for 2 more times

then the noodles are all cooked

Cleanse the noodles in cold water for a few times to get rid of all the starch

Put water, ice, and half of the chillies

I made a Choi hwa-jeong noodles with the tsuyu!

It was very good with the sweetness of the tsuyu and the spiciness of the chillies!!!!

I think you can make this cold and awesome noodles when you are don't have that much of appetite.

Why couldn't I think of chillies with tsuyu?!! It was very appealing.

We made tsuyu this time so we can make buck wheat soba noodles next time!

I will see you in a more delicious video! Bye :)

UNSOLVED Mysteries Of The Art World! - Duration: 12:12.

From successful art heists to modern artists with hidden identities, here are 10 unsolved

mysteries of the art world….

10.

La Bella Principessa

One of the most enthralling stories of an unidentified piece of art is that of 'La

Bella Principessa'.

In 1998 Kate Ganz, an art dealer from New York, purchased this study, that depicted

the head and shoulders of a young woman, for just under $22,000 from Christie's in New

York.

She sold it, in 2007, to Peter Silverman, a Canadian collector, for a similar price-

saying at the time that it was based on a number of paintings by Leonardo Da Vinci.

Silverman commissioned a series of tests on the piece, and in 2008 it was officially announced

that it was an original by Da Vinci himself - a verdict that was corroborated by a number

of experts- and re-valued at 150 million dollars.

This wasn't the end of the story, though, because a renowned art forger came forward

and claimed it to be one of his own works!! Silverman took the unusual step of offering

the conman 10,000 dollars to recreate it again!!

So far this has not been done.

Different factions of the art world remain uncertain whether 'La Bella Principessa''

is truly a work by Da Vinci, so it remains in limbo until comprehensive proof is found.

9.

The Image of Jane Austen

She's one of the most famous British authors ever, having written Sense and Sensibility,

and Pride and Prejudice- but Jane Austen is also the subject of one of the art world's

longest running mysteries.

It all relates to a painting, known as the 'Rice' portrait, and whether it is of

a young Austen, or someone else altogether.

The painting itself is claimed to have been painted in the late 1780's, when the author

was just 13.

If it is legitimate, it would be the only oil painting of the author in existence.

The problem, though, is that is wasn't signed, or dated.

Furthermore, a stamp has been found on the rear of the canvas which suggests a date in

the early 19th century- when she would have been in her twenties.

The owners, of course, are steadfast in their belief that the image is of Jane Austen, but

many in the art world think it's of someone completely different.

This rumor has meant the portrait has failed to sell every time it's put up for auction.

And now for number 8, but first do you know where the largest art theft in world history

took place?

Let us know your answer in the comments below!!

The answer is coming up!

And be sure to subscribe if you are new here!!

8.

Who owns "Dancer Making Points"?

This stunning image, painted by Degas, is valued at a whopping 10 million dollars.

It's not entirely clear, though, who the rightful owner of the portrait is, as it seems

to have changed hands in rather mysterious ways.

By the way...are there any fans of the show Fake or Fortune out there?

Its provenance follows a similar story to many other artworks.

It was originally purchased from a Parisian gallery in 1927, and taken to America around

1940 to be safe from the war.

Here, it was purchased by Huguette Clark, but it seems unclear how it left her possession

to become part of another collection.

She spent the last 20 years of her life living in a hospital before dying in 2011 at the

age of 104.

Her attorney realised the Degas was missing a year after she had moved out of her 5th

Avenue apartment but, to protect her privacy, Clark refused to file a report of its disappearance.

There were suspicions that another resident of the building, or a worker, had stolen it,

and it eventually turned up in the Peter Findlay gallery, just down the road from where she

had lived, a few years later.

Since the painting wasn't registered as stolen, the gallery bought it from a young

man who said his family had owned it for years, and then sold it on to Henry Bloch.

Upon hearing about this, Huguette Clark contacted Bloch, and they came to an agreement that

the painting should be donated to the Nelson-Atkins museum in Kansas city, which the Bloch's

were patrons of.

Relatives have now argued against this decision, though, claiming Clark was not of sound mind

to make such a decision.

This left the ownership of the painting in complete limbo, as well as the fortune she

left behind.

7.

Who was the Girl with a Pearl Earring?

The girl with a pearl earring, painted in 1665 by Johannes Vermeer, is one of the most

famous images in the art world.

It's from the Dutch Golden Age, and is often voted as the most beautiful painting in the

Netherlands- but one question remains, who was the subject?

Vermeer is thought to have mainly used members of his own family to pose, so the most commonly

suggested identity of the girl with a pearl earring is his eldest daughter, Maria.

She would have been about 12 at the time it was painted, but apart from the possible age

similarity, there's no further evidence that it was her.

(It's kind of hard to tell).

Another possibility is Magdalena Van Ruijven, the only daughter of Vermeer's patron, Pieter

Van Ruijven.

She was friends with Maria, and a similar age.

It would make perfect sense that the artist would have been commissioned to paint an image

of her.

Now, for those of you who have read the book or seen the movie, you'll be expecting me

to suggest Griet, the family's nanny, as the final possibility.

The problem is that she was a completely fictitious character created to give life to the story,

and there's absolutely no record of her existing at all.

The truth is, we'll likely never know who it actually is, but the art world seems to

agree that it's one of the two daughters.

How did Van Gogh Die?

Many people consider Van Gogh one of the greatest painters of all time.

He's certainly one of the most famous, even if it's just because everyone knows about

how he cut off his own ear in a moment of insanity.

The true mystery of the artist behind the Starry Night, Sunflowers, and Self-portrait

with bandaged ear, though, is how did he die?

In 1889, at the age of 36, his mental health was deteriorating.

He spent time in hospital, which seemed to help him recover, but he died in the early

morning of the 29th July, 1890, due to a gunshot wound to the stomach.

But who shot him?

He purportedly returned to the inn the night before, holding his stomach.

It was long thought that he had, in fact, shot himself- whether purposely or accidentally,

and that he was ashamed, and didn't think the would was so severe, so kept it under

wraps.

A recent investigation, has suggested that he was actually shot by two boys that he knew,

who had a malfunctioning gun.

This evidence is far from comprehensive, though, so the mystery remains as to what happened

on that fateful evening, in events that took one of the most influential artists there

have ever been.

5.

The Battle of Anghiari

The Battle of Anghiari is a painting by one of the world's most famous artists- Leonardo

Da Vinci.

He was commissioned to paint it in 1503 for the Great Council Hall in Florence, but the

problem is- every image you may have ever seen of the painting is done by other artists,

because the original has been lost.

This is because Leonardo used experimental techniques when painting it so, as it faded,

it was covered over with other depictions.

It has long been thought, though, that the remnants of his original work still lie hidden

within the walls of the building and, in 2012, a team using forensic techniques found evidence

that it does, indeed, still exist on an inner structure beneath a fresco by Vasari.

Due to disagreements about whether the original should be uncovered, or not, no further work

has been done to find it.

It still remains a mystery- is the image truly still there, or has it worn away so much that

it's unrecognisable?

4.

The Biggest Heist in History

I'm sure you, like me, love a good heist story, but the truth behind the biggest heist

ever carried out is still to be uncovered.

For those of you who guessed, it took place in 1990 at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

in Boston.

Security guards opened the doors to two policemen who were responding to a disturbance but,

to their surprise, the cops handcuffed them!

Too late, they realized they were art thieves.

Over the following minutes, the intruders stole 13 different artworks by the likes of

Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Degas- with a total value of more than half a billion dollars

at today's prices.

No trace of the artworks, or the thieves, has ever been found- despite there being a

ten million dollar reward for any information.

If you know anything, speak now!!

The FBI says some of the artworks were being offered for sale in the 2000's in Philadelphia,

and they've searched as far as Ireland for clues.

It's a high likelihood that the paintings are in the hands of criminals who use them

as currency, since valuable artefacts like this are seen as easier to secure and transport

than cold, hard, cash.

They are now lost somewhere in the black market.

3.

The Identity of Banksy

Art goes hand in hand with the ideas of pushing the limits and exploring new ideas, and Banksy

definitely lives up to this to this.

He first came onto the scene in 1990, as a freehand graffiti artist in Bristol, in the

UK, but since then he's moved on to stencilled works, and is renowned for his humour, satire,

and anti-establishment ethos.

He's held large exhibitions around the world, and even opened a theme park called Dismaland.

Despite his high profile, he still keeps to his roots and reveals stencilled graffiti

works worldwide.

So what's the big mystery??

His identity!

No one knows who he is!

Quite a few people have been suggested as Banksy- ranging from Robert Del Naja, the

frontman of Massive Attack, Jamie Hewlett, the artist for Tank Girl and the Gorillaz,

or even that Banksy isn't just one person, but a team of at least 7.

For now, no one can be sure- but someday all will be revealed, and it'll be one of the

biggest revelations of the modern art-world that there's ever been.

2.

The Original Mona Lisa

Leonardo's Mona Lisa is, without doubt, the most recognisable portrait that's ever

been made.

It's housed in the Louvre museum in Paris and is much smaller in person than you'd

expect.

There's questions about who the person depicted in the painting is, but more curious is whether

the one on display is even a likeness of a real person in the first place.

Reflective light scans of the image have found something quite interesting- that the canvas

actually contains 3 different paintings!!

It was not unusual for artists to reuse canvas to perfect their techniques, and new technologies

allow researchers to see beneath the layers of paint.

There's further evidence that Da Vinci scratched out and edited each work, and used their features

to incorporate them into the new versions he painted on top.

While the original image on the canvas could well be Lisa Gherardini, who most suggest

was the model for the famous painting, the final version looks very different, so could

be an amalgamation of his original model, and alterations he decided to make.

Again, we'll probably never know the full story behind the Mona Lisa- something that

only goes to make the image all the more enticing and intriguing.

1.

The Object in "David's" Hand

Michelangelo's "David" is the most recognisable sculpture in the world and, beyond controversies

in some places about the unashamed nakedness of the piece, there's a mystery surrounding

it, and how complete it actually is.

In particular the hand.

It's overly large in comparison with the rest of his body, and bulging with veins.

For this to be present in a work by a master of the craft, it makes sense that this is

done for a reason.

That reason, some suggest, is because the hand should be holding a deadly weapon.

"David" is the one from the story of David and Goliath, and the theory goes that this

hand should be holding the sling that he used to fell the giant.

The statue already has the pouch of the sling in his left hand, above the shoulder, and

the straps go all the way round to near his right hand.

Is this where he should be holding the handle?

Others suggest it could simply be a stone he was holding, and it's not entirely clear

why it's no longer there.

Either way, it seems as if the David is incomplete, and will be a continuing mystery forever.

Glowing Tones Strategy - Duration: 1:46.

- Strategy number two is the glowing tones strategy.

Now glowing tones refer to the notes that set off

the sympathetic vibrations in the bass.

So notes like G.

Or B.

It's a little bit hard to hear in this recording

but if you take up your bass and play those notes,

if you're playing them in tune,

then you'll hear that the bass

sort of vibrates along with these notes.

So that's kind of what you're aiming for here.

And the technique that Dennis uses is

to play a two octave G major scale.

So you're starting in first position

and then going all the way up to what Rabbath

calls fourth position but really, thumb position.

Stopping on that A above the top G.

And what you wanna do is listen out

for these glowing tones

and I'll provide a little bit more information

too what glowing tones are underneath this video

but the ones you wanna watch out for

are the tonic, so G,

the fifth, which would be D,

B, which is the third,

and then again, of course, any G on the bass.

So what you wanna do is stop after

you play each one of those,

and listen and try to hear the vibrations

after you play the note.

And then use the same technique that you used

in the review song, which is if you play

slightly out of tune, don't slide correct,

just try to get it more in tune as you come back down.

New Review Article Series: Frontiers in Medicine - Duration: 4:58.

Hello, my name is Lisa Caulley and I'm one of the editorial fellows of the New

England Journal of Medicine. Today, we'll be discussing a new review article

series entitled "Frontiers in Medicine," that showcases the ways in

which new technology is influencing medicine. Over the last year, the New

England Journal of Medicine editorial team has been working with leading

experts to prepare the series that presents the translation of scientific

knowledge into new devices, drugs, and techniques that can improve patient care.

To introduce the series we have Dr. Elizabeth Phimister, who is one of the

deputy editors and one of the editorial leads for the Frontiers in Medicine

series. Dr. Phimister, can you tell us a bit about this series and what readers

can expect. [Dr. Phimister] Absolutely. So, the journal publishes manuscripts covering a very

broad arc of focus, from understanding the mechanisms of disease — for example, the

genetic causes of disease — right through to phase 3 trials of new interventions

to treat disease. This series also follows that same arc. So, on

the one end of the spectrum, in the science space, we have an article on the

extracellular vesicle, which is an area of intense interest and growth right now.

I think it was only six years ago that the International Society for

Extracellular Vesicles initiated. Another article in the science space is an

article on mapping neurologic and psychiatric symptoms to networks of

neurons in the brain, knowledge of which might one day be used to identify new

targets for treatment. At the other end of the spectrum is an article on

oligonucleotide drugs, which are a relatively new form of drug.

I think particularly exciting because it targets protein expression at the level

of messenger RNA, so it can target messenger RNA for degradation and

decrease it of expression of the protein, or it can tweak splicing to ramp up

expression of the protein. Also in the clinical end of the spectrum is an

article on the use of circulating cell-free DNA to screen for fetal trisomies.

This method has been rapidly embraced in the last five

years and now is the screen of choice in many countries. [Dr. Caulley] So why did the Journal

think this topic was important? [Dr. Phimister] Well, we know that our readers are interested not

only in learning about new and better ways to treat their patients but also

the translational research, the science that generated these new drugs and new

devices, new methods to treat disease in the first place.

[Dr. Caulley] As a surgeon, I really appreciate the advances that we've seen in minimally

invasive approaches to surgery. What excited you about the series? [Dr. Phimister] Everything!

I'm a technophile. I handle genetics and genomics research reports for the

Journal, I handle ophthalmology manuscripts, and just taking the field of

ophthalmology and looking back over the past 20 years, one can see how different

technology's approaches have really impacted the field. DNA sequencing has

led to the identification of many disease genes that, when variant, cause

congenital forms of blindness and also vision loss. They've also made it

possible to generate animal models of disease, which, in turn, has made it

possible to develop gene therapy approaches to treating disease. More

recently, new ways to image the retinal vasculature has led to the design of new

types of clinical trial. And, of course, one can't forget the extraordinary

impact that the development of antibody-based drugs to target

angiogenesis has had on prevalent forms of blindness, such as age-related macular

degeneration. So, it is really the technology side of the the series that

excites me. The fact that each article provides a foundation, a clear

explanation of mechanism, and also there's some looking to the future as

well. [Dr. Caulley] The series really is intended for anyone who has an interest in

technology, how it works, and what it can do.

It was really important to us to make sure that the series was accessible to

all readers. Each article is accompanied by an interview with the authors, as well

as an illustrated glossary to explain specialized and uncommon terms. I'd like

to thank Dr. Phimister, as well as our viewers. We hope you've enjoyed this

brief introduction into the Frontiers in Medicine series. Please find the

inaugural article and the accompanying editorial at NEJM.org.

Coastal Now - CHANT411 Teal Vase - Duration: 1:52.

Every student that comes and works at CHANT411, I have them read a book

called The Go Getter and it talks about the go getter attitude that really is

needed to work at CHANT411. It talks in that book about this impossible

task and they talk about the blue vase. We have transformed that into the teal

vase here at CHANT411. This is the teal vase. We get a situation where

an individual gets a question and they're searching and they're looking

and they can't find the question, we say this is your teal vase. If we get that

hard question that you kind of want to give up and not answer it, we know that

there is an answer out there so we'll go through whatever methods we can, contact

whoever we need to, to get that answer. There's always a big sense of

accomplishment when they get that correct information. When we have

questions like that, that takes us hours to find, the first thing we

usually do is go, I found it and then we say the answer and everybody else is

like, oh really, because none of us knew. Having that tangible object kind of

helps the students see that okay it is a real thing. We keep it behind the desk, so

everyone can see that teal vase, kind of a reminder of, we have to work as hard as

we can to be as successful as we are, to have everybody trust us. In the teal vase,

it's kind of full of little letters here, all of our staff, when they graduate, will

write a letter to the current staff of their successes and what they're most

proud of of the program and what they look forward to in the future of CHANT411.

Once they're kind of in there, they're kind of in there, so it's a nice

memento of all the staff that have kind of helped to build the program to where

it is.

FCA Joint Project Develops New Aluminum Alloy for Turbo Engines - Duration: 3:25.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles announced Monday that it has collaborated with lightweight

OEM parts supplier Nemak and Tennessee's Oak Ridge National Laboratory to develop a new

aluminum alloy for use in turbocharged engines.

An improved metal is needed due to FCA's desire to raise compression ratios and boost levels

in its forced induction engines, which will bring more power and efficiency, but also

additional heat, much of which is soaked up by the cylinder head.

Many aluminum heads today are made from 319 or 356 aluminum, both of which become fragile

above 200 degrees Celsius (392 F).

The new alloy that FCA intends to use, which goes by either 16HT or ACMZ, can maintain

strength up to temperatures of 300 degrees Celsius (572 F).

It does this by replacing silicon found in some aluminum alloys with copper; a combination

previously unused in the automotive industry due to a tendency to crack after casting.

"When we focused on copper, other people in the industry almost laughed us off, saying

we'd never be able to cast that," stated Gregg Black, senior manager of advanced powertrain

engineering at FCA, in a company blog post.

"We knew there was competition, including other teams working at Oak Ridge National

Labs, but we outperformed everyone on this."

Oak Ridge National Laboratory volunteered its Titan supercomputer (one of the most powerful

in the world) to develop simulations for metal cooling, and later narrow down recipes for

the new alloy to seven options.

FCA and Nemak took the information, and have tested more than 100 cylinder heads with structures

identical to those of current FCA offerings, some for hundreds of hours on dynamometers.

The 16HT/ACMZ alloys may allow engineers to streamline cylinder head designs to cluster

the valves, spark plug, and fuel injector more closely, or alternatively, enlarge the

valves for better airflow, and add a second spark plug for more complete combustion.

All this comes at a somewhat small price increase, with the 16HT/ACMZ aluminum heads projected

to cost just 7 percent more than 319/356 aluminum heads.

Its production does not require new manufacturing techniques, save for extra steps in the post-casting

heat treatment.

The only downsides are that we have to wait a few years for a 16HT/ACMZ-headed engine

to roll off production lines, though other manufacturers may follow suit if FCA's new

cylinder head materials prove advantageous.

"[We're] just getting started on the process to create a design now that we have a material

that will work," said Black.

"We feel like we really have a tiger by the tail."
