Alright guys snowy day here in Venice.
How rare.
We were not expecting this but the Beast from the East has arrived.

So yeah, the plan for today we're going to take it easy on the sightseeing.
It is going to be very light.
But we are going to get some food.
Yeah.
We're hoping to find some Venetian dishes.
Yep.
Sam spotted a restaurant that he thought looked really good.
It looked really good.
Yeah.
It is like very close to our place and I just noticed it after taking a ferry ride yesterday.
Mmmhmm.
SO we're going to go and hopefully have our lunch there.
Let's go.
It is pure ice.

We're going to be skating in Venice today.
Chewing on bread.
Trying to decide what will he eat?
What will he have?
There is a pretty extensive menu and I'm also munching down on the bread plate.
Look at all of that.
That has already arrived.

Yeah they have a lot of dishes with seafood.
Um so I think that is what we're going to go for.
Yeah.
Since this is Venice.
You know we're out on the water.
Yeah.
It seems like a good idea.
I'm hungry.
So they have a really good special at this restaurant.
It is 12 Euros for a set menu at lunchtime.
Yep.
They have how many options here?
11 options.
Eleven.
Eleven different options to choose from.
They are all really different.
Mmmhmm.
It ranges from pasta to seafood.
Yep.
And I think they even have soups and salads.
Special salads.
Yes, so we've ordered 4 different set menus.
It comes with beverages.
And with my parents.
So I went for the white wine.
Yeah, they brought us nice generous.
Sam is having red.
Generous amounts of wine.
No skimping out.
And my Mom who ordered water got a full bottle of water.

It is smooth and refreshing.
It is even better than the wine we bought at home.

Oh we also get like a we all get a side dish too.
So my set menu came with a salad as a starter so I've just finished dressing it a little
bit of extra virgin olive oil and some balsamic vinegar.
Balsamic vinegar and salt and pepper too.
Salt and pepper too.
Sam thinks it is a little weird.
Yeah.
It is normal.

So I'm outnumbered here in that department.
So they gave us such generous portions of wine.

I think this is about a double.

I love it.
This is your second glass that you've poured yourself.
And it is so good.
Like my Dad was saying the quality is just outstanding.
Full bodied, rich and it goes down smooth.
Oh yeah.

Yeah, mixed salad.
Like you I dressed it with the same except for no salt and pepper.

It tastes great.

We haven't been having a tonne of raw fruits and vegetables lately.
It has been rare.
This is a very nice addition.
We've been going very heavy on the pasta.

We need to be having more of this so this is good.
Alright and now we wait for the mains.
Alright we're going to start off with Dad's.
With Pumpy's.
What did you get?
I got calamari that is done properly.
It is lightly battered.
You've sampled it already.
It is lightly cooked.
Yep.
And it is not overcooked.
Most calamari is overcooked so this is delicious.
Mmmm.
It is so good eh?
It is like the batter is right there but you can really taste the calamari.
That is awesome.
So yeah, I've got a how about your main now.
I've got a seafood spaghetti and as you can see here you can start seeing some of the
seafood right in here.
Yes, so this one was spaghetti pescatore.
The fisherman's spaghetti.
I'm just going to hack up some of these noodles here.
It looks pretty good.
For a nice easy bite.

Mmmm.
Oh man.
It is so nice to be eating seafood and just the way that it is kind of a light sauce.
Yeah.
A sauce with herbs and dressings and you can tell it was like a little bit of olive oil
in there too.
Yeah.
It is just really nice.
It is nicely done.
Not overpowering in any way and it is just yeah it is tasty.
Really good and how would you like to try mine.
I would.
My sardines.
I would love to try it.
Sweet and sour sardines.
I'll just take it right over here.
Apparently this is a dish that dates back to the middle ages and it is how um the fishermen
would preserve, look at that, the sardines they would keep it in vinegar.
Yep.
Um yeah so it is really tasty.
I like that the raisins add a bit of sweetness to it.
Mmmm.

So much more tender than I thought it would be.
Yeah.
The sardines are really tender.
And I'm eating it with bones.
I don't know if you're supposed to eat it with the bones or not but I have a feeling
you are.

And this is the polenta?
I think it is a white polenta that is what it tastes like.
But I've never seen anything like this.
It looks really good.
It is so tasty and I love like you said I love the raisins.

I've already tried my dish and it is amazing.

Okay, so these are pickled sardines in a sweet and sour sauce.
That is right.
It is typical of Venice because it was a way of preserving fish.
It has been popular since the middle ages.
Right.
And it also has white onions, raisins, pine nuts.
It is so good.
I'm eating this dish as half.
I've already been sharing it around the table too.
I know.
Mmmm.
It is so good.
What is your favorite part about it?
There is a sweetness to it with the raisins and the onions.

It is just really nice.

Guys this is the ultimate reality of being a food blogger.
My Dad is already having seconds.
He's already finished his main and I've barely touched mine.
I almost feel like we should change our channel to the Cold Plate.
Hahaha.

This is really good.

Of course it is.
This is some really good spaghetti.
I always order the better one don't I?

I like mine too but I mean this is wonderful.

And last but not least because our eyes are always bigger than our stomachs.

This is outside of the set menu but we ordered the tiramisu and the pannacotta which.
We sure did.
Which looks amazing.
It looks amazing exactly.
So yeah let's dig right in.

Oh you can see the spongy cake in there.
Oh man.
Mmmmm.
Is it good?
Mmmmm.
Oh wow.
Oh wow.
She is going in for more.
That is how you know it is good.
Oh wow.
That is very good.
It is just super spongy in the middle.
Light coffee flavor.
Lots of cinnamon.
I don't know what this is but it is super creamy.
It almost reminds me a bit of panna cotta.
Which is what I'm having next.
Mmmhmm.
Delicious?
This is wonderful.
Just take one bite of the panna cotta so you can try it.

I'm perfectly happy with this one though.

And how is that?
So I know what I'm getting in to.

This one is even sweeter.

But I'm happy with this.
This is going to be my dessert.
Papa Panna Cotta.
And it also comes it comes with berries.
It comes with blueberries.
Um, some other berries here and a raspberry.
I'm going to try that with blueberry.
Getting lots of sauce, also getting some whipped cream.
A little bit of everything.
Woah.
Living on the edge here.
All about dessert.
That is some of the best panna cotta I've ever had.
Yeah.
Ever.
Yeah.
Wow, I've got to try some more just to confirm that.
But now wait until you try my dessert.
Oh.
Because I think the tiramisu may be even better.
Are you serious?
It is like one notch above.
Hahaha.
Woah, that is like life changing tiramisu.
This has just been like an incredible meal.
Yeah.
LIke it just keeps getting better.
I'm so glad we got desserts.
I think as good as the mains were here.
The desserts are like all-star level.
Alright that was a wonderful lunch at Osteria Mocenigo.
What did you think?
It was amazing.
Yeah.
Such good food.
And before I even talk about the price point I've got to say that there are some real bad
food in Venice to be perfectly honest.
Hahaha.
Yeah.
Like if you are really near a tourist place.
Uh huh.
For instance the Rialto Bridge or maybe like some of the main cathedrals.
Yeah, exactly.
We've had some so so meals.
But this has been wonderful.
For instance you can get a stale pizza slice and tiny thing of coke for 7 Euros in some
of these places.
Yeah.
That is how bad it is.
So this meal was outstanding.
One of our best meals on this trip in Europe in 2018 to be honest.
So in total it came to 12 Euros per person for the meal.
For the mains.
And that included a really big glass of wine.
That you saw.
It also included a salad with a really nice main.
And then we ordered dessert at 5 Euros each.
Mmmhmm.
Again excellent value.
Some of the best desserts we've ever had like in a very long time.
It was so good.
And then on top of that they charged us each uh a 2 Euro coperto yes which I thought was
very reasonable because they brought us so much bread both before the meal.
Yeah, two baskets.
Before the meal, during the meal and they filled it up and kept refilling it.
Yes.
Super generous with their portions of wine with their bread.
This place was just absolutely outstanding.
If you come to Venice this is an absolute must place to come.
And I do recommend coming for lunch because this is when they have their specials.
Yes.
Exactly.
Definitely come here.
