Youtube daily report Apr 14 2017

Hey everybody and welcome to the video.

So this is Josh here AKA BeardedFatLoss, and today we're going to be talking about how

I set up my macros.

So, I get a lot of questions from folks asking how many calories should I eat?

How much protein should I eat?

How do I set up my macros?

I know I've talked about it in other videos but I thought it would be really nice to have

this video, standalone by itself to be able to link and to be able to show people and

explain.

I just got done filming another episode of 'Explore', so I figured I'd take advantage

of this awesome background that I have right now.

Nothing beats hanging out in the woods for a couple of hours on your day off, really

nice and relaxing.

Alright, back to the topic at hand, setting up macros.

And I will preface this by saying I know there are other ways to do it that are perfectly

valid, I just wanted to explain how I do mine and what has worked best for me for setting

it up.

So the first thing you need to do is figure out how many calories you burn in a day.

And that number is called your T.D.E.E., your Total Daily Energy Expenditure.

So that's just how many calories you burn each day from normal activity.

You need to do two different things to find that number.

One, there are calculators online if you google 'TDEE Calculator' it'll ask you a few questions

about your weight, your height, your activity levels, and it'll give you a rough idea of

that calorie burn.

Beyond that, that gives you a starting point to experiment because everybody's bodies are

a little bit different so that'll give you a number to start with and try, then find

for yourself what's going to work best.

I need to pause right now though, check this out everybody.

Let's see if I can get that in focus here.

Sorry about that, had to stop, that mountain view was amazing.

So once you have your TDEE calculated, the next step I like to take care of is making

sure I hit my protein.

Now calculating protein, I aim for .7-.8g per pound of lean body mass.

It's a lot less than a lot of other people I know, but honestly, I have not noticed any

negative impact and I think it's a little bit easier to adhere to without having to

worry about getting 200 grams of protein.

So that would be my main recommendation, .7-.8g per pound of lean body mass for your protein.

And with fat and carbs after you have your protein done you have a little bit of room,

a little bit of flexibility depending on what works for you.

So for fat, I usually will recommend folks at least 50g at a bare minimum.

You want to make sure not to drop your fat down too low, because that can really really

negatively effect your digestion and it can really effect a lot of the hormones in your

body.

You want to make sure you at least have 50g at a minimum.

I usually go a little bit above that, but I do tend to prefer having a little bit of

extra carbs over a little bit of extra fat but I know plenty of people that are the opposite.

So the 3rd macronutrient is going to be carbohydrates.

For me personally, I will always make sure and take care of my protein, then I'll take

care of my fat, then I fill the rest of my calories with carbs.

Because, you need that set amount of fat at a minimum, and you need set amount of protein

at a minimum, but you have a lot more flexibility with carbs vs the other macronutrients.

If I'm messing around with different amounts of calories it's coming or going from carbohydrates.

So if I'm dieting down and I need to lower my calories more, I'm going to take it all

out of carbohydrates for the most part or I'm going to add it into carbohydrates if

I'm adding calories.

So that is really it.

It's nothing that complicated, I think figuring out your TDEE is a little bit harder and a

lot more important.

For weight loss, the total calories is really what matters.

You know, you have those macronutrients there to ensure that your retaining the muscle or

building muscle, and to make sure your hormones are being released properly, and to make sure

that you have that carbohydrate energy.

So they're all there for a purpose, but weight loss is strictly going to come from the amount

of overall calories you're going to eat.

And if you're ever feeling really overwhelmed by tracking macros if you're just starting

off, at least focus on calories.

It's going to be a little bit easier on you and it's going to have the same weight impact.

As you feel comfortable, start tracking your macros as you feel comfortable.

That is going to be it, really simple.

I just know I get a lot of questions about that so I wanted to have that separate video.

This is a rare occurrence, I am off work today and I get to wear my normal clothes in the

video for once.

I feel like I get in these habits, I really don't wear business casual 24/7 everybody.

Leave a comment below, let me know what's happening with you, when is your next day

off and what have you got going on?

And make sure to like the video if you did, helps me out a lot and be sure to subscribe

if you want to see more, I put out new videos twice a week.

Until next time, I will talk to you all later.

Have a good one.

How Castor Oil Can Improve And Regrow Your Hair

There are many natural formulas for keeping your hair healthy, shiny and strong.

Using castor oil is an old, traditional way of taking care of the scalp and hair.

Watch about the benefits of castor oil, which is derived from seeds or beans of castor oil

plant, (Ricinus communis), and learn how to apply it to your hair.

Benefits of Castor Oil for Hair

Castor oil has been well known for its medicinal properties.

It's often used as a laxative, but has a wide variety of other health benefits, including

many pertaining to hair and hair growth, as well as for facial oil cleansing method, stretch

marks, dark spots and more.

The oil has a unique chemical composition, which most likely contributes to its healing

potential.

It mostly consists of a triglyceride of fatty acids.

It contains vitamin E, omega-6 fatty acids, minerals, and proteins, which are all important

for the health of your hair and scalp.

Castor oil:

helps with hair regrowth and hair loss makes the hair richer and darker

prevents split ends treats dandruff and dry scalp

moisturizes the hair and makes it shine works in an antifungal and antibacterial way

and can prevent problems such as piedra, ringworm, and folliculitis

How to apply castor oil

It's best to use castor oil as a hair mask.

This is particularly helpful if you're trying to regrow hair or give it more moist and shine.

1.

Castor oil has a thick consistency, so you can mix it with coconut oil, olive oil or

jojoba oil in a half and half ratio.

This will make the mask easier to distribute throughout your hair.

2.

Use your fingers or a brush and start applying it onto your scalp with circular motions.

This gentle massage increases the blood circulation, rejuvenates the hair, and stimulates hair

growth.

3.

Part hair into sections and apply the oil (mixture) to each section until all your hair

is covered properly and evenly.

4.

Wrap your hair in a warm towel (you can also use a shower cap) and leave it for two to

eight hours.

You can also leave it over night.

This will give the oil enough time to penetrate the follicles and hydrate your scalp and hair

thoroughly.

5.

Wash your hair as usual using shampoo and conditioner.

Make sure you rinse all the oil out of your hair.

How Often Should you Use Castor Oil?

This depends on your objective and type of hair.

If your aim is to treat hair loss, you will need to do it at least twice weekly, but even

better if you can do it three or four times per week for several weeks.

You can also add rosemary essential oil which is known to stimulate hair growth, and also

work out to find the cause of the hair loss.

For split ends and increased shine, you can use the oil as a conditioner once weekly.

Be careful not to use too much of it (a pea-sized amount should do) or you can end up with an

over-oily scalp.

For best results use unrefined castor oil, as it contains more nutrients and healing

properties.

CHALLENGE | Inktober #05 : The Snow Queen (la Reine des Neiges) - Duration: 3:39.

Hello everyone, Dreamy here. I hope you are fine. This is the Inktober Challenge 2016.

We are still on the theme of the fairy tales and legends. So far you saw four of my drawings...

Cinderella, the little Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White.

And here is the number 5 with the Snow Queen, like in "Frozen" by Disney !

But no song in this video, sorry... I know you are disappointed :D

By the way, do you know the actually story of the Snow Queen ?

It was written by the Danish Andersen (also the author of the Little Mermaid).

But the story is not about two sisters. It is about a boy and a girl, two children.

So the Devil (yeah...) created some kind of magical mirror...

...and this mirror broke into pieces and some of the pieces went into the boy's eye and also heart (gotta hurt SO bad x_x ).

After that, the boy's personality changed, he became cold and insensitive.

And then he disappeared. Poof !

But the girl will go after him. Which is what you can see in the Disney movie too.

The quest of somebody looking for someone (like Anna looking for Elsa).

But in the case of the original story, the boy is actually with the Snow Queen...

... who is not that friendly.

It reminds a bit of the White Witch in Narnia - played by Tilda Swinton who I really like.

She's a great actress with an interesting face and she always plays original characters.

On the other hand... although I have nothing against this actor, I really hate the kid Edmund !

He just got everybody in trouble in order to eat his damn loukoums ! But well...

Anyway, the thing is, it's pretty much the same kind of relationship with the Snow Queen towards the boy.

And this is what inspired me for a first version (but I gave up this idea, so it hasn't anything to do with this drawing now).

I wanted to draw the little boy held in the Queen's arms but this is just too Narnia.

I couldn't break away from this picture so I just went for a new direction.

I did more research about this tale and I found there were several versions of this story.

Especially a Japanese version : "Yuki no Onna" ( = the Snow Girl).

I found it cool to interpret differently this Snow Queen so here she is in a kimono...

... kinda like a ghost, cause you know, Japanese stories...

She looks very white over a very black background, in order to have the best contrast possible.

Especially the snow that comes from her hands. As if she was the one that started winter.

Also, I forgot to say, I livestreamed this drawing.

The canvas is half of a A4 paper, so very vertical, like kakemono.

As you may know, winter and nature are very recurrent themes in Japanese art.

Well, that's about it. Let me know what you think !

This is my version of the Snow Queen for the Inktober Challenge 2016.

Next time, I will present you the little Match Girl. See you !

TUTORIAL - How to do a long exposure photo ? - Duration: 7:57.

Bonjour and welcome on Waterfalls of France

Today, I will not show you an new waterfall

But I will explain how to do a long exposure

in other words, this kind of photos

If it's the first time, you are on this channel

Waterfalls of France presents you the most beautiful Waterfalls of France

But also gives you advices how to do better pictures

So if it's not yet, the case, subscribe :)

For those who ask where I am, I am in Paris,

in the Vincennes Forest to do this tutorial

I have been asked for 10 years now, what it this silky effect you have on your waterfalls ?

Is it photoshoped ?

NO

It's no made on photoshop

It's a technic called: long exposure

In this tutorial, I will explain you what is a long exposure

I will also define it

I will talk about the equipment you need for long exposures

And finally, I will show you how to create long exposure

Let's go

Defintion

You now how a camera works

It's light going through the lens with goes on the sensor

and then recorded on the SD card

So if there is less light

the camera needs more time to capture the full light

We can compare it with a big window

you will have a lot of light going in the room in short period of time

with a smaller window, it will then have less light inside

It's the same with your camera

it's called the diaphragm

it's the size

of the hole where the light goes through

The larger hole you have

the wider the diaphragm will be opened

If it is shut, the time exposure will be longer

This is what we call, the 'f' for focal

The smaller the f are

the more open is the diaphragm

if the f are high

the diaphragm will be smaller

The light will then take more time to reach the sensor

with a longer exposure

which will create the silky effect on water

and more generally long exposures

Here is a first picture with a wide opened diaphragm

with low 'f' because the exposure is short

the sensor had received a lot light on a short period of time

the water stoppes, freezes

We can called it a short exposure

Here is the same picture on a long exposure

With then big ''f', the water is now silky,

the camera needed more time to have a correct exposure

so the water looks like it's mooving

This is a long exposure

The equipment for long exposure

Let's talk about equipments for long exposures

You need a tripod, every tripod

it only has to fit you camera

you have tripods like this one

carbon fiber

for DSLR

this is the tripod and this is the head

to put your DSLR

You also have this smaller size

it's a bit heavier

it's for smaller DSLR

I have started my waterfalls pictures with this one

it's all broken

some screws are missing

But I took a lot of nice photos with this one

there is also this size for compacts cameras

it's userfriendly, it's a gorillapod

it can be used everywhere

Anyway!

Now that we have talked about tripods, let's talk about cameras

So you need, of course, a camera on your tripod

but not all cameras work

You need to have the Manual Mode

This one

in order to manage the time exposure

There are a lot of camera with the M Mode

I often use the Canon 5Dsr

it's very powerfull

but you can also use smaller DSLR

This one is old, it's a Canon 450D. I started with this one

You can also use compact cameras that can do great photos

This compact is a Sony RX100 Mark V, a jewel :)

But you can also use an Iphone 7

With the good App, you can do some nice stuff

and do great long exposures

For bonus, not mandatory but can be usefull

you can use ND filters

This is a filter

it lowers the amount of light that goes to the sensor

It's pretty much like sunglasses but with no colours

which will enable longer exposures

The are some round filters

you can stick it directly on the lens

It's pratical, but you need to have several filters if you have several lens size

but you can also use those square filters

but you need an adaptor where you will slide you filter

directly

on the filter holder to do your long exposures

and you can also use a remote controler

which will make not vibration taking your shot

because it's quite important

not to touch you camera while shooting. So avoid

stepping on the tripod, or leaving on a mooving ground

and desable the stabilizator of your lens

to avoid small vibrations

you'll not notice

but your picture will be blurry when you get home

to sum up, you need, a camera with the M Mode

a steady tripod

and then if you want, you can use filter

and a remote controler

or the 2 seconds timer

I am now going to show you how to do a long exposure

My camera is set

I added a ND6 filter

you can see it here

first step is to desactivate the stabilizator

why

for the small vibrations on your long exposures

so it's not blurred

You need to be on the M Mode

M Mode

here is the compoistion

Check your ISO, they need to be at the minium

in my case it's 100 ISO

which will enable long exposures

Second step, is the aperture, I will take f16, to shut the diaphragm

I will then have a nice depth of field

Last check

You look a the exposure of the picture

Here, it will be 25 sec

I double check I have the 2 seconds timer on

I do my focusing ... done

Let me remind you, you can contribute on Cascadesdefrance.fr

to share your best long exposures shots of waterfalls

If you like this video, please leave a thumb up,

a comment and subscribe. You now have all infos

to do nice long exposures

It's your turn now... Salut :)

Understand Abortion Law in 10 Minutes - Duration: 9:29.

so, abortion. our mission here is to break

down complicated things and help you

know enough to solve arguments, make

decisions, stay informed, and have the

power to be a good citizen

knowing more doesn't always help with arguments though

sometimes the more you know the more you argue

this is probably one of those topics

but it's a complicated

legal issue so we thought it would help

to break down some of the common laws at

the national and state level

we're not going to cover the medicine or science

around what the different procedures mean

or when a fetus can live outside the

womb because we're not qualified

you'll also see that many of our sources come

from advocacy organizations

we prefer neutral sources but there aren't a lot

out there for this subject so we focused

on picking the facts out of the best

sources we could find and reading

sources on both sides to be sure nothing

was being left out we did our best to

focus on what the laws about abortion

are and to leave out anything about

whether or not they're a good idea

first let's talk about the Supreme Court

abortion is something the Supreme Court

has weighed in on several times you've

probably heard of the big case: Roe v. Wade

the court ruled in 1973 that even

though abortion isn't mentioned in the

Constitution a zone of privacy is

protected and that zone includes the

right for a woman to get an abortion

it's not an unlimited right though

because the farther along the woman is

in the pregnancy the less right she has

to an abortion the court split up the

nine months of a pregnancy into thirds

or trimesters in fancy-pants language

and each one allows more regulation of abortion

it starts out with the state

not being able to regulate abortion very

much at all in the first trimester and

ends with the state being able to ban

most of them except to save the life of

the mother or in cases of rape or incest

in the third trimester you still hear about

trimesters sometimes but the Supreme

Court actually got rid of the idea in 1992

in a case called Planned Parenthood v. Casey, the new rule is based on

viability or when a fetus can live

outside the mother's womb which might

change based on newer medical technology

before viability, a state

can only regulate abortion if

the regulation doesn't put too much

burden on the woman's rights

after viability though a state can restrict

abortion as much as it wants except it

can't ban abortions that protect the

health of the mother or in cases of rape or incest

between those two big changes

the ruling meant that states can pass

more laws restricting abortions now than

they could under Roe v. Wade

in the abortion cases since then the Supreme

Court hasn't changed its rules though it has

allowed more restrictions on abortion

than it used to sometimes even reversing

a previous decision some have said that

this means maybe the court will remove

the protection for abortion or cut it

back more if it keeps getting

conservative members which is one reason

why the nominations to the court are

such a big deal to the political parties

if Roe v. Wade was overturned the law

would go back to what it was in 1972 and

some states would totally ban it while

other states will allow it with different restrictions

next let's talk about the

federal laws there aren't many

federal laws about abortion but a big

one is the partial birth abortion ban

passed in 2003 and upheld by the Supreme

Court in 2007 this bans a particular

abortion procedure where the fetus is

mostly removed from the womb before being aborted

otherwise the fetus would be

cut up inside the uterus and then

removed it's important to remember that

this is banning a way to do abortions

but many of those fetuses can be aborted

in other ways there's also a federal law

keeping protesters from blocking the

entrance to an abortion clinic or trying

to intimidate people from going inside

and then there's the Hyde Amendment

which sadly is not named after Mr. Hyde

from the story and has been a law since 1976

it refers to a budget rule that

keeps federal money from going to pay

for an abortion except where the

mother's health is severely threatened

or where rape or incest are involved

it covers any federal health care program

or benefit like Medicare or the

children's health insurance subsidy

you may have heard of a big fight over

defunding Planned Parenthood which

provides birth control, reproductive

health care, and abortions to women

federal money can't go directly to

abortions because of the Hyde Amendment

but many Republicans have argued that

any federal funding to Planned

Parenthood indirectly helps them perform

abortions because they don't have to

spend it on other things this has been

voted on several times in Congress in

the last few years but hasn't passed

finally President Trump is put out an

executive order which prevents any

foreign aid from going to international

organizations which provide or promote

abortions and their educational materials

this is a rule that started

with President Reagan and it changes

with each new administration depending

on whether the president is a democrat or republican, that's some of the key

federal laws now we'll cover the state

level which is actually where most of

the laws about abortion come from

the most basic kind of law is how far along

to ban abortions some states have laws

which ban abortion earlier than it

seems like the Supreme Court decisions

would allow, 20 weeks, which is before viability

some of those bans have been

stopped by federal courts but not all of them

but counting those, 21 states ban

abortion at 20 weeks, 6 ban it at 24 weeks, 19 ban it at the point of viability,

and 7 states plus DC don't ban it at all

another 2 states ban it in the third trimester

so there's a little piece left of the

Roe v. Wade trimester system

blast from the past

some states don't have all the exceptions where the supreme court

allows abortions late into the pregnancy

like the life of the mother, rape, or incest

not having those has also been

challenged in federal court

19 states have their own laws banning

partial birth abortions and on top of the

straight up bans some states have rules

for how abortions can be done, how they

can be paid for, and what steps a woman

has to take beforehand

some even require it to be performed by 2 doctors or at

a hospital after a certain point in the pregnancy

some states don't allow tax

dollars to pay for abortions while

others only use state tax money when

federal tax money is available too

some states won't even allow regular

insurance plans to cover abortion

most states allow doctors to refuse to do

abortions and some states

also allow hospitals and clinics

to refuse as well though usually

only for religious reasons

some states require a woman to get counseling or an

ultrasound before they can get an

abortion the counseling covers things

like the health risks or how much pain

a fetus can feel there's a need for

more studies on whether counseling or

ultrasounds actually change anyone's

decision but the research that has been done

seems to say that it doesn't but

just delays the abortion or causes the

woman to go to a state where it's easier

over half the states require a waiting

period between the initial examination

and the abortion usually it's 24 hours

but some require 48 or 72 hours

again there's not a lot of research on this

but the studies out there don't seem to

show that the waiting periods cause many

women to change their minds

over half of states require one or both parents of

someone under 18 to give their consent

before an abortion and another 11

require the parent to be notified

some states have regulations on the hallways

and buildings abortion clinics can use,

how they can dispense medication, or what

agreements they must have with the local hospital

there are fewer abortion

clinics now than there were 10 years

ago though the number of clinics is

obviously higher in blue states and

lower in red states

people disagree about how much of that is caused by

regulations and how much is caused by

more people using better birth control

or other things

some clinics have been closing in blue states too

so what's the future for abortion laws?

many states have added new or bigger restrictions

just since 2010 so the trend for

abortion laws lately has been towards restricting it more

on the other hand

the Supreme Court just stopped states

from requiring abortion clinics to have

facilities and doctors comparable with

nearby hospitals which would have shut

down many of the clinics

it's still an area of the law that changes a lot in

the states and even at the federal level

Republicans in Congress want to pass

more restrictions if they can get the votes

there are fewer abortions

happening nationwide now than at any

time since Roe v. Wade

was decided back in 1973

no one knows why though

it might be that abortions are harder to get

it might be better birth control it might be more

use of things like Plan B or it might be something else

if you want to know the

laws in your state you can check one of

these sites and there you have it

as always sources are in the description

stay tuned for our next video which will

be a new and improved version of our

video on communism, socialism, and fascism

Is Being Aerodynamic Uphill Important? | Ask GCN Anything Cycling - Duration: 11:15.

(funky music)

- We're going to start this week's Ask GCN Anything

with a couple of questions that we asked you lot

this time last week.

Namely, define chipper and chopper.

We had quite a few answers, but we're gonna go for one

definition for each, and let us know if you agree

or disagree in the comment section down below.

First up, Gryffes defines chipper.

It says, it refers to a race where the standard is so low,

the prize is a fish and chip dinner.

Calling someone a chipper implies that's the

level of rider that they are.

And James Ashcroft defines chopper.

He says in the youth category, they define it as someone

who can't ride their bike properly and who is liable

to cause a crash.

Very interesting indeed.

Okay, onto the first question that we are going to answer

here today, from Nate Nelson.

Are there any differences between a male and a female bike,

besides the colours?

Well, yes there are other differences

and it's mainly down to sizing and geometry.

So, a few bike companies have done some research

and also looked into a database called

The Global Body Dimension Database,

which apparently shows that, in general,

women have got a slightly shorter torso and reach,

in comparison to their leg length, than men.

And so a lot of women-specific bikes have a shorter

top tube and also a shorter stem, to take that into account.

However, as with everything in life, not everybody

is the same, so even if you are a woman, you might

not be best built for a women-specific bike.

So always try before you buy.

And if you want a lot more detail on this,

you should watch this next video, in which Lucy Martin

asks, do you need a women-specific bike?

- So, back to the initial question.

Do you really need a women-specific bike?

Well, the honest answer is, it actually depends.

I raced almost every season on a men's bike,

but I can see how some women

would really benefit from having a women's specific bike.

Let's face it.

Everybody's different shapes, different sizes,

regardless of gender, so

you need a bike that basically just fits.

And that may be a women-specific bike.

- Okay, next up is a question

from Rajan Chitrao,

apologies again for the pronunciation.

What should I buy as my first bike?

A road bike, a Cyclocross bike, or a mountain bike?

Well, that is a very difficult question to answer

without knowing exactly what type

of riding you are hoping to be doing.

And I'm guessing from the fact that you haven't written

it down, you'd actually know, yourself, exactly what

you want to be doing.

So I would suggest going for that middle ground

of the Cyclocross bike, or indeed, a gravel bike,

because they're very versatile machines.

They're pretty fast on the road, albeit not quite as fast

as road bikes, but they're also more than capable

of handling some off-road conditions.

Maybe not the gnarliest descents in the world,

but certainly gravel, fire roads,

and also some single track as well.

And if you really start to get the feeling that it's slowing

you down slightly on the road, and you want some more

performance, you can always buy a second set of wheels,

with some slick tyres, or just purchase the slick tyres

on their own and put them on the bike when they're needed.

Now, we did a day's filming a couple of years ago

in Wales, where we explored the differences between

a gravel bike and a road bike.

It really was great fun indeed and it's coming up

in this next video.

- You can punch it in, Dan.

- [Dan] Sod off.

(mystical music)

(rock music) (Matt, laughing)

- We should start the quickfire round off with a question

from Andrew Lord, who says, when using a maintenance stand

on a carbon bike with a carbon seatpost, where's the best

place to clamp it?

Well that is a very good question, indeed.

You should always avoid clamping any of the tubes

on a carbon frame set because they're not designed

to withstand that force from the side, only to be strong

in the direction they need to be when you're riding.

The seat post one is a difficult one, though,

because some people say

it is designed to withstand that force.

Because, after all, there's a seat collar and clamp

to prevent it slipping down.

Other people say that if it is a very light-weight carbon,

you do risk damaging it.

So there are a couple of solutions, the cheapest of which

is to buy a very cheap steel or alloy seat post,

which you simply put in when you want to put your bike

on the maintenance stand, or the slightly more expensive

option is to get one of those stands that the pro mechanics

use, where the fork dropouts are secured at front

and the rest of the bike's weight is propped

up at the bottom bracket and you can spin it round.

So I recommend one of those if you have the money.

Next up, Gingercoastie says why

are tubs faster than clinchers?

Tubs being tubular tyres, of course, that are stuck

onto the rim as opposed to clinchers, which you mount

on and have a separate inner tube.

I'm not exactly sure, Ginger,

that they are necessarily faster.

They might be in some cases, but during my time as a pro

I did a lot of research, online, into what were the fastest

rolling resistance tyres and actually, some very fast

clinchers, combined with latex inner tubes were faster

than the fastest tubular tyres.

Now, I know a lot of people out there feel like tubeless

are faster, but don't necessarily have any evidence

to back that up.

The reason a lot of pros still run with tubular tyres,

is because of safety.

If you puncture on one of them, you can actually roll

for quite a long time, and of course on a mountainous

descent with multiple hairpins, you want to still be able

to ride quite safely without coming off, and clinchers

aren't so good for that.

Next up, from Jorge Eduardo, an aerodynamic position is

useful on a climb, question mark.

I saw Jan Ulrich use it on the two,

2004 Tour de France in the Individual Time Trial

on Alpe d'Huez, where he had some clip-on bars.

Well that depends on how fast you're riding up the climb.

Jan Ulrich was probably climbing incredibly fast

up Alpe d'Huez, and once you get over about 18

or 20 kilometres per hour,

aerodynamics still has quite a major part to play,

as well as gravity and rolling resistance.

So it just depends on how fast you're going up the climbs.

Pier Juhng Hish,

can super glue be used

to fix tyre punctures?

I tried it once and worked,

but I'm not sure how long it can hold.

At least it allowed me to ride back home.

Amazing that you had super glue with you,

but not a spare inner tube to go in your tyre.

I guess it does work, as you've proven yourself.

It's not something that I've ever tried, personally,

although I think I might give it a go,

just to try it out at some point.

I know I have seen pro mechanics that use super glue

for the little nicks that you sometimes get in tyres,

to stop extra bits of thorn, etc., getting in

and puncturing the inner tube, but now I will try

that myself at some point.

And finally, Douglass McCuiston says, hello, do I need

to change my front derailleur if I'm changing my

chainrings, using the same size but different brand?

And the answer to that is no.

As long as the chainrings are the same size, and they're

also round as opposed to some of the

oval chainrings that you get these days,

then you shouldn't need to do anything until it's

your front derailleur or, indeed, the rest of your gears.

Here's a question which has been

nagging Stephen Tovell for some time.

What do soigneurs wrap food in for the riders?

Foil, parchment, or what?

Well, actually, you're pretty close to the mark there.

I did look it up a little bit earlier

and we have featured this stuff in some of our

truck tours in GCN over the past few years.

They don't use normal aluminium tin foil

that you would use in cooking.

I've tried that myself in the past

when I've had nothing else at home.

It does tend to get stuck to home-made energy bars

and to rice cakes, etc., and it's quite difficult

to unwrap, as well, in one piece, which is not what

you want when you're in the middle of the race.

So, they get these packets of eight-by-eight-inch

parchment-lined aluminium foil boxes.

You would've seen them, as I said,

on GCN videos in the past.

It's just much easier to unwrap, which is exactly

what you want in a race.

Now a soigneurs' job is very interesting.

They've got lots of tips and tricks along these lines,

which you might not normally think about.

And many years ago, all the way back in 2013,

we followed Sophie from Garmin Sharp, as the team

was known at the time, to see what goes into the life

of a soigneur on a daily basis.

- So we put two bottles,

one of an energy drink, one of water.

We have two bars in there, Clif bars,

and then, one

Blok.

And then two gels,

of our sponsor, Clif, and we add,

a baby Coke.

It's kinda good today, good weather.

And a

fresh panini, we made this morning.

The best part is

right now at the feed zone

(laughs)

and massage, it's good part,

and the job in general, is pretty good too.

But the suitcases, I'm gonna say is the worst one.

- Our last question for this week is from Rex 11.

How do I find out if I'm a climber or a sprinter?

Somebody already answered it for us, if you don't know,

then you're a domestique,

which is quite funny because domestiques are generally

people that are quite good at everything, but don't have

one very specific strength.

And it is quite easy to find out what you are good at

and not so good at, simply by riding with groups

or even doing races.

You'll quickly going to find where your strengths lie.

But you can also do some testing in a laboratory

or out on the open road with the use of a powermeter.

Four quick tests, which include a maximum sprint test,

a one-minute flat-out test, five minutes, and indeed,

20-minutes, are going to enable you to create

a power profile.

So when you compare those test results to your weight,

you'll get a power-to-weight ratio for each one,

and then you can go onto a site such as TrainingPeaks

and you'll be able to compare yourself

to the very best at those particular durations

and find out where your strengths lie.

But it's not all about numbers.

Take Mark Cavendish as an example.

He never performed particularly well in a laboratory,

and there are loads of people who've got way

better sprint power than he has, but he's the best

sprinter of a generation, an arguably, the best

sprinter of all time.

Anyway, if you do want to find out where your strengths lie

and you have the use of a powermeter, this next video

is for you, because it goes through exactly how to do

all of those four tests.

(funky music)

- I feel I can safely say

that I got everything out for myself

and you only get that one right the first time.

That's not something you want to repeat

twice in the same ride.

Okay now we're ready to start the five minute test.

Now like the one-minute one, if you've got a climb

of five minutes in duration on a steady grade

then that would be absolutely perfect, but

if you haven't, do it on a straight, flat road

without any junctions, and not too much traffic.

- That's it for this week's Ask GCN Anything.

Don't forget if you've got any questions

which you would like us to answer, you can leave them

in the comment section below this video

or on social media using the hashtag #TorqueBack.

Make sure you subscribe to the Global Cycling Network

if you haven't done so already.

You can click on the globe, which is

somewhere on the screen right now.

And then, you might want to watch

one of the following two videos.

In the left corner,

my left, your right, just down here, you can find a tour

of the Katusha Team Truck from the

2016 Tour de France, where you can see what the soigneurs

and the mechanics have on board,

and in the other corner you can see Si and Matt

trying to determine what the best bike to use over cobbles:

Cyclocross, road, or mountain bike.
