Hi. This is Marty from Blue Lightning TV.

I'm going to show you how to create the retro look of a video glitch portrait

on a CRT green, monochrome monitor.

Open a sharp, close-up photo of someone that you'd like to use for this project.

I downloaded this one from Shutterstock.

The first step is to separate your subject from its background by making a selection

around your subject.

There are many ways to do this, but for this example, I'll use the Quick Selection Tool.

If you're using this tool, as well, drag it over your subject to select it.

If you need to remove areas of the selection outside your subject, press and hold Alt or

Option as you drag over those areas.

I did an in-depth tutorial on the Quick Selection Tool, so if you'd like to watch it, I provided

its link in my video's description below.

Once your subject is selected, click the Layer Mask icon to make a layer mask next to it.

Make a new layer below it, by Ctrl-clicking or Cmd-clicking the New Layer icon.

We'll fill the empty layer will a dark green color.

Click your foreground color and in the Color Picker's hexadecimal field, type in: 001D0D.

Then, click OK or press Enter or Return.

Our foreground color is now the color we just typed in.

To fill the empty layer with the foreground color, press Alt or Option + Delete.

Next, we'll colorize our subject.

Make your subject active and click the Adjustment Layer icon.

Click, "Hue / Saturation".

We want to restrict the adjustment layer to affect only our subject and not the dark green layer.

To do this, we need to clip the adjustment layer to our subject.

Either click the Clipping Mask icon or press Ctrl + Alt + G on Windows or Cmd + Option + G on a Mac.

Check "Colorize".

The Hue is 147, the Saturation is 25 and the Lightness is 0.

Next, we'll convert our image into a Smart Object, so we can modify it nondestructively.

To do this, Shift-click the bottom layer to make all the layer active and click the icon

at the upper, right corner of the Layers panel.

Click "Convert to Smart object.

Next, we'll crop our image to a specific size and resolution to ensure that your final effect

will look similar to mine.

Open your Crop Tool.

In the Width field, type in 1920 px for pixels and in the Height field, type in 1080 px.

For its Resolution, type in 150 pixels per inch.

The effect will look best when your subject's face is filling most of the document, so go

to a corner and drag it in until your subject's face is filling most of the Crop's bounding box.

To reposition it, just drag it.

Then, press Enter or Return.

To fit your image back onto the canvas, press Ctrl or Cmd + 0.

We'll make 4 copies of it by pressing Ctrl or Cmd + J four times.

Name the top layer, "Wave 3, the second layer, "Wave 2" and the third layer, "Wave 1".

Name the next layer, "Pointilize" and the bottom layer, "Base".

Scroll to the top and make the top layer active.

We'll make a new layer above it, by clicking the New Layer icon.

Name it, "Scan Lines".

We'll fill it the empty layer with 50% grey.

To do this, open your Fill window by pressing Shift + the F5 key at the top of your keyboard.

In the fly-out list, pick "50% grey and click OK or press Enter or Return.

Presently, our foreground color is dark green.

We want to make it black, while keeping our background color white.

The quickest way to do this is to press the "D" key on your keyboard to make your foreground

and background colors black and white, respectively.

Go to Filter and Filter Gallery.

In the "Sketch" folder, click, "Halftone Pattern".

The Pattern Type is "Line", the Size is 2 and the Contrast is 50.

Then, click OK.

Convert it to a Smart Object and change its Blend Mode to "Overlay".

Our scan lines are a little too sharp, so to soften them, go to Filter, Blur and Gaussian Blur.

Blur it 1 pixel and click OK.

Let's collapse the Smart filter to save space in the Layers panel.

Make "Wave 2" active and hide "Wave 3".

Go to Filter, Distort and Wave.

The Number of Generators is 2, the Wavelength is 193 and 445, the Amplitude is 1 and 256

and the Scale is 100%.

The Type is "Sine" and the Undefined Areas is "Repeat Edge Pixels".

Then, click OK.

Keep in mind, because it's a Smart Filter, we can change or adjust its settings at any time.

Make the Wave filter active and open your "Rectangular Marquee Tool".

Make sure the "Add to Selection" icon is active.

To give us more room for the next step, let's zoom out of our document.

Press Ctrl or Cmd and the minus key on your keyboard.

Drag your tool over your subject to create rectangular selections of various widths.

We'll fill the selections with black and since black is our foreground color, press Alt or Option + Delete.

Notice our Wave filter's layer mask filled with black over the selected areas.

Think of layer masks as stencils.

The white areas reveal the image associated with it, while the black areas hides those

areas, revealing the layer under it.

Deselect it by pressing Ctrl or Cmd + D. Reduce the opacity to 30%.

Let's collapse the Smart filter to save space.

Make "Wave 3" visible and active.

Go back to Filter, Distort and Wave.

Make the Number of Generators: 1, the Wavelength: 1 and 17 and the Amplitude: 1 and 114.

Then, click OK.

As before, drag your Rectangular Marquee Tool over sections of your image.

Click the Layer Mask icon to make a layer mask of the selections.

Click the chain-link to unlink the layer and the layer mask.

Doing this allows us to move or resize either of them independantly of the other.

Click the layer to make it active and press "v" to open your Move Tool.

We'll slide the layer a little to the left by pressing the Left arrow on our keyboard a few times.

Let's collapse the Smart Filter.

Make a copy of the layer and reduce its opacity to 20%.

Then, press Enter or Return.

Press the right arrow on your keyboard a few times to move the layer to the right.

Scroll to the bottom of the Layers panel and make "Wave 1" active.

Change its Blend Mode to "Lighten".

Go to Filter, Distort and Wave.

Make the Number of Generators: 999, the Wavelength: 205 and 248 and the Amplitude: 1 and 2.

Make the Wave layer mask active and press "M" on your keyboard to open back your Marquee Tool.

Drag the tool across to make a relatively narrow shape and fill it with black.

Then, deselect it.

Invert yout layer mask by pressing Ctrl or Cmd + I.

If you'd like to reposition the layer, open your Move Tool and drag it.

Scroll to the bottom of the Layers panel and make the "Pointilize" layer active.

Change its Blend Mode to "Luminosity".

Go to Filter, Pixelate and Pointilize.

Make the Cell Size: 5 and click OK or press Enter or Return.

If you want to hide some of these pointilize sections, make the Smart Filter active,

open back your Rectangular marquee Tool and drag a selection over the areas you'd like to hide.

Fill it with black and deselect it.

Remember, you can adjust, move or change the Smart Filters to get a combination of effects

that works for your particular subject.

South Korea's Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha has visited a U.S. Army division unit to reaffirm

the two countries' strong alliance.

She said the alliance stands at a critical juncture to address North Korea's nuclear

threats, but Seoul's top diplomat stressed she's confident...

South Korea and the U.S. can overcome it together.

Connie Kim reports.

Commemorating the 67th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War, South Korea's

new Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha visited the U.S. 2nd Infantry Division in Seoul, highlighting

the ironclad, rock-solid alliance with Washington.

It marks the first time a South Korean foreign minister has visited a U.S. Army unit for

the occasion, and thanked the U.S. Forces for their efforts in the war.

But Kang pointed to the North's rapidly growing nuclear program, which threatens both countries,...

and said that threat must be confronted for the allies to move forward seeking prosperity.

"The ROK-U.S. alliance stands at a critical juncture to address this existential threat

from North Korea.

This will be a daunting challenge.

But I am confident that we can together overcome it.

With our ironclad, rock-solid alliance and combined defense posture, we can achieve our

common goal."

The main purpose of Kang's visit was reportedly to highlight the two countries' strong alliance

ahead of the first face-to-face meeting of Presidents Moon Jae-in and Donald Trump in

Washington, which will set the tone of the two countries' relations for the years to

come.

"Our two leaders will discuss joint strategy on furthering our comprehensive strategic

alliance.

They will also be drawing big pictures on how best to address the North Korean nuclear

and missile threats."

North Korea has test-fired five ballistic missiles since President Moon took office

adding to concerns that Pyongyang is on a fast track to developing an ICBM that can

target the U.S. mainland.

But, despite Pyongyang's growing nuclear ambitions,...

Minister Kang's visit to the division reaffirmed the two allies' commitment to "go together"

-- just like the motto of US forces in South Korea.

6 Things You Can Do to Support Your Anxious Loved One, Without Catering to Them

I've been so intensely anxious that I couldn't fathom starting conversations with strangers.

I'd get so anxious about work, that I'd feel overwhelmed with anxiety from Monday to Thursday.

I had a little break for Friday and half of Saturday.

And then I started worrying about Monday.

The anxiety lasted all day, every day.

And I even tossed and turned throughout the night.

At its worst, anxiety feels insurmountable to live with.

And if you're someone who loves another person with anxiety, you can find their worry driving you insane too.

Just ask my wife.

But, anxiety doesn't need to ruin your loved one's life – or yours.

Here's what your anxious loved one needs from you:

1.

They Need to Hear What They Don't Like, But in A Gentle Way

When you have intense anxiety, every little thing sets you off.

A confused look.

Someone at work not responding to an email when they said they would.

A slightly higher electric bill.

That's all it takes to shoot an anxious person's worry through the roof.

Their whole world seems to fall apart.

Yes – over stuff that small.

If this goes wrong…how will everything else work out?

You naturally want to say,"You're overreacting.

This isn't a big deal." An anxious person responds to that with, well, a whirlwind of more anxiety.

So be honest.

But not brutally honest.

Calmly say,"You know, that sucks.

It's inconvenient.

I'm sure it will be all right though.

It's not a big thing."

You've acknowledged their anxiety.

You've given the anxious person confidence for the future – that things will be okay.

But at the same time, you've helped steer them toward reality – that this really isn't a huge thing.

That's what they need.

2. Introduce Them to Others, But Only with Their Permission

In social situations, you'll bump into others.

Introductions flow naturally.

It's totally okay to introduce your anxious loved one without their permission.

But, if they're standing or sitting alone, don't suggest someone they should go talk to.

They'll respond with more anxiety and feel inadequate because they can't do it themselves.

Instead, ask them if they would like to be introduced to another person.

If they agree, then go ahead.

If they don't, let it go.

If you're concerned with your anxious loved one standing or sitting around alone, voice your concern in a calm conversation after the event.

Pressing the issue during the event will only cause them more anxiety, resistance, an argument, and possibly a fight.

3. Encourage, But Don't Push, Your Loved One to Confront Anxiety-Provoking Situations

Anxious people realize they need to take charge and do exactly what makes them anxious.

But since they respond to those situations with so much anxiety, they have a hard time doing exactly what they know they need to do.

When you see your anxious loved one hesitating, let go of your urge to push them into taking action.

You'll only build resistance, and more anxiety, that way.

And the next time your loved one has to take action in a situation that will cause them anxiety, they'll want to do it even less.

It's lose-lose.

Instead, motivate your loved one with,"I know this is hard for you.

I know you can do it.

And I'm here to help you through it.

I've seen you do this before.

And you'll do it again."

4. Listen Without Judgment to Help Your Loved One Let Go of Their Anxiety

When your loved one finishes an anxiety-provoking situation, talk about how it went.

Open the conversation with,"How'd it go?"

Your loved one will share their story.

And while they talk, listen to what really happened and compare it to what they feared would happen.

When they finish their story, share your observations.

Avoid saying anything like,"See.

What you're afraid of didn't happen."

You'll only provoke more anxiety by saying that.

Instead, simply compare the facts.

"Remember how you thought your boss would flip out on you?

It turned out you had a calm conversation."

Let that bounce around in your loved one's mind.

They'll realize their anxious fears didn't come true.

But on occasion, what they fear does come true.

When that happens, simply remind them they have the courage, and your support, to get through it.

5. Help Them Strategize Ways to Cope with Their Anxiety

Don't give your loved one orders like,"Relax.

Calm down.

Sit still." You'll only increase their anxiety.

Orders lead to anxious people feeling pressured and forced.

They never help.

When your love one's anxiety clearly has gone way over the top, ask,"What do you need from me to help right now?"

They'll tell you what they want.

They may ask you just to leave them alone.

They may want you to hold their hand.

Whatever they ask, respect their request and do it.

And if they don't know, suggest what they might do.

Suggest (but don't order): "Maybe you could take a walk or go for a run."

Regardless of what you offer as an idea, make sure you either know or have a high level of confidence it's something your loved one likes

to do.

If they haven't come up with a plan or list of coping mechanisms, strategize those together with them when they are in a calm state.

6. Never Allow Unhealthy Coping Mechanisms to Stand

Does your loved one smoke, drink, use weed or illegal street drugs to deal with their anxiety?

Do they watch TV or play video games all day?

Highly anxious people turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms at first because they're not sure how to relieve their anxiety.

I used to play World of Warcraft 12 hours a day and drink way too much.

Guess what?

Both only made my anxiety worse.

If your loved one turns to self-destructive habits to manage their anxiety, let them know your concerns about their behavior.

These habits can easily turn into serious addictions, which can lead to jail, the end of your relationship, or even your loved one's death.

Maybe not now, but they could in the future.

You can't control your loved one or stop them from doing what they want.

But you can let them know the changes you see in who they are.

You can say you've seen them happier in the past, and they never seem happy now.

And you can share how their behavior affects you.

For example, you feel saddened and lonely because they spend all their time alone.

Sometimes you'll get angry and frustrated.

You'll get into arguments and fights.

It's not easy.

When that happens, apologize for your behavior.

But stick to voicing your concerns.

If your loved one doesn't deal with their anxiety in healthy ways, they need to feel uncomfortable about what they're doing.

This doesn't guarantee change.

But it does make it much more difficult for them to continue with what they're doing.

Your Top Goal is to Preserve the Relationship

Helping your loved one with their anxiety isn't easy.

You're guaranteed to not do it perfectly.

But if you remember the above guidelines, you'll have a strong relationship with your anxious loved one.

They need a relationship with you above all else because they often don't feel worthy of love.

If they felt worthy of love, they wouldn't be so anxious.

When they feel like you're on their side, working with them to reduce their anxiety, change becomes easier.

Anxious thinking fades away.

They become a calmer, happier version of themselves.

And that's something priceless you both will appreciate.

so freelance writing can be one of the most lucrative freelance opportunities

for you but a lot of people go wrong which brings down not only the average

income but just their quality of life and where most people go wrong with

freelance writing is derived from a lack of confidence a lack of confidence in

their writing ability as well as a lack of knowledge of the business world in

general so most freelance writers I meet who are

struggling are doing things like translation work kind of long-form

document stuff proofreading or very low paid articles so they'll do articles

where they have to write five articles a day for people online that kind of work

pays generally terrible it might be enough to just make your bills but your

writing you know five six hours a day and if you're a writer you know that one

that that sucks and two is it that doesn't leave a lot of time for you to

do the other things that you might be wanting to do like write for yourself or

do marketing and do higher-end project so you can get paid more in my own

writing business I was earning up to 125 or more an hour and the way I did that

was by focusing on value and this is what's really important is if you're

just writing work that anyone else can do and that doesn't mean a lot to your

client you're not going to be paid a lot and the key here is two things first is

looking at the value your work actually delivers most of the time it's best that

your work is tied to the income of your client right so if you're doing sort of

translation work that they don't really care about but they feel obligated to do

probably not going to want to pay you a lot right but if you're helping someone

write the autobiography for them that and there's some big-time guru right and

they really care about this book they're probably going to pay you a ton of money

because this is going to represent them and mean a lot if you're working on the

website of a company that does all their business online that website is their

most important marketing piece right so they're going to be happy to pay you

more money for it because if the website does well then they'll make a lot more

money right so think about where your clients earn their money the process

their customers go through to get to them and insert yourself somewhere in

there so you have money your client you want to be somewhere in this middle and

that's how first of all you're going to be able to deliver basic amounts of

value the next thing there is looking for ways to really accelerate that

finding opportunities to offer more and more value and I made and will make more

videos on that topic specifically but looking for how you can basically

deliver value to them so these are the two main point and I'm going to focus on

just these in this video rather than having like 10 useless tips because

these are the absolute most important thing first is the client needs to care

about the work you're doing if there's someone who runs 20 different websites

and they just want to hire someone to write five articles a day or that kind

of work it's going to pay garbage because the person doesn't really care

so you could say to them hey I'm the best writer in the world they're like I

don't care I just want to get some articles done right this is this is very

common when companies want to start a blog but they don't really care about it

they just think they have to and this is a good way to differentiate between

clients who care about the work and don't care the client who feels like

they have to do something or like oh yeah I should be doing social media or

things like that they're not going to want to pay you very much the clients

who want to do something like they want to book written but like a ghost written

book or they want to make a blog and they're really passionate about sharing

all this advice they have but they're a terrible writer or they really want a

marketing campaign to promote a new product they have coming up those are

the people who you can easily negotiate with to be earning a lot more money $50

or $100 or more an hour because they see the value and they want to do it so

they're going to be like if they're really passionate about the project and

you convince them that you are a better writer and you're going to deliver more

to them they'll be happy to pay you more because it's meaningful for them

again the other point is around that value piece right

are you actually delivering value and this is of course tied in with if they

want what you're doing so if someone really wants what you're doing they're

already getting more value from it by definition because it's something they

really want but within that project how can you deliver more value how can you

make it pay for itself essentially in that that comes down to the kind of work

you're trying to do and I gave some examples earlier as well as how you do

it how you actually deliver your work and deliver that is going to play in

with the kind of value that client receives so those are the only two

things I want to focus on at this point could give you a lots of tips or how do

you negotiate how do you set up for polls and contracts through your

marketing all that but if you're focused on the wrong areas and wrong types of

clients then none of that else matters so this is where you want to start

reflect on the types of clients you've been working with have you been given

value have they really cared about the work and then think about kinds of kinds

of clients that may be much more likely to want to pay for your services and

[Family Farm Seaside] Help your pets to find their true love! - Duration: 9:22.

Hi Farmers! I'm Joss, and welcome to Family Farm Seaside Studios.

Unfortunately, we're experiencing technical difficulties with our equipment.

So I'm sorry if I don't sound as good as I normally do.

I hope you're all enjoying the new features that we released recently.

Most notably, we introduced Pet Breeding, which sounds a little tricky at first, but it's quite fun to figure out,

and I'm going to show you some tips and tricks, to get you started on this excellent new feature.

So before we get on to Pet Breeding, I want to give you a bit of information about Pets before we start.

Firstly, as you probably already know,

there are many different kinds of Pets in Family Farm Seaside,

and in those different kinds of Pets you have different types.

To get Pets, you need to get Pet Cards, and you exchange the Pet Cards for the Pets in the Pet House.

So where to get these Pet Cards? If you go to the Pet House, and see where the Pet Cards are to exchange,

you can tap on it and it will give you information on how to get those Pet Cards.

Also, once you get your Pets, you need to level them up.

To do that, you do it by doing Guest Orders, digging Pet Chests, and feeding them Pet Cookies.

Once they level up, you can choose to give them extra skills, extra abilities, and it will give you the option as you level up.

Moving on, to Pet Breeding!

So as you can see, this is my farm, and these are my cute little Pets running around, having fun, doing Guest Orders, doing things Pets do.

But, what if, they want to find the love of their life?

Well, now they can!

We go to the Pet House, go to the third tab at the top, and from there you can see the Breeding Room.

From the Breeding Room, you can add Pets to it, but first, you have to make sure that your Pets are stored in your Pet Columns.

So, if we go back to the first tab of the Pet House,

we can see the Pet Slots, with all the Pets ready to leave and do the things they want to do around the farm.

The second tab, on the left hand side, is the Pet Columns, where Pets are stored,

and from there you can do things like dress them up, level them up, see what skills they've got, and change their name!

All the important things.

So, to make sure that your Pet is safe in the Pet Columns so you can breed it,

you need to firstly call the Pet home.

So you click on call home, and we can see it running back home from being out and about in the farm.

We'll wait for it to come in.

And then once the Pet is in, we can click on the double blue arrows, and swap it with another Pet from the Pet Columns.

And we can see it is swapped in the Pet House.

So Farmers, here's a tip for you.

To be able to breed your Pets, you need to have the extra Pet stored in the Pet Column.

The easiest way to do this, is to get more Pets! Get more Pet Cards, trade them in, get an extra Pet.

However, if you already have three Pet Slots, and three Pets filling them, and no spare Pet in the Pet Columns,

I'm afraid until you get an extra Pet, you won't be able to breed them.

And remember, your Pet must be level 20 or above to enter the Pet Breeding Room!

Right, now let's get on to the Pet Breeding Room.

Let's open it up, and add a Pet, let's add Rocky. So he can find his one true love.

You go to the World Pet List, let's have a look, see if we can find any Pets on the World List,

rather than our neighbors, because our neighbors didn't have any.

Ah she looks cute, let's have a look

Hmm. If we chose to breed a new Pet, this is what we will get.

If we have a closer look at the breeding preview screen, we can see that our new Pet will have the appearance of a plain Labrador,

because both of the parents are plain Labradors.

The skill slots that the Pet will have will be between three and six, randomly

And the possible skills that the Pet may start with.

And, if we choose to have skill books, instead of a new Pet, we can have either one or two skill books, of those two skills there.

So after looking at the preview, let's invite, ah, a Black Labrador

Let's see, that's a really good selection there

And a Poodle, another good selection As you can see,

with the Poodle and Black Labrador, the appearance is the appearance of either the mother or the father Pet,

so you will randomly be able to get a Poodle if you breed your plain dog, but also,

if you breed your Poodle, you might get a plain Labrador from it, so be careful.

Now scroll down a bit, and, let's pick this Labrador to breed with our Labrador.

We can invite this Labrador for TC, which means that you send TC to the owner of that Pet, to convince them to breed with your Pet.

And then, you can choose which reward you want to receive from breeding, either a new Pet at level 1, or some skill books, or book.

Bear in mind, that once you click ok, and breed your Pets, you will lose your Pet, you will not get your Pet back,

it will run away with its true love and you'll never see it again.

So be careful which prize you wish to pick.

So, I'm a bit bored of waiting, let's check and see if anyone has sent us an invitation, instead.

From this screen, we can see the status of all of the invitations that we have sent, and the ones that we received.

We can see that one invitation has been sent to us.

Let's have a look at what we will get.

We'll get a normal Labrador between three and six skill slots, and one possible skill.

If I pick a skill book, I will only get that one skill book.

Well, it's better than nothing, let's do it!

I'll hit accept, let's go with a new Pet, I feel like having a baby Pet.

Let's hit ok, put the Pets into the breeding room, so both these Pets get a little privacy, and there's our reward!

Let's tap to claim it!

Ah, a nice letter, from Rocky, he has found his true love, and both me and the other farmer have picked a new baby Pet.

So, if we click on claim now, we can find out what we get from this.

Oh! Rocky has left me a lovely baby female Labrador.

Good job Rocky!

Now, what about all that TC that I sent out earlier in my invitations?

Can't see it here, let's go back to the breeding room, and check on the invitations. Let's keep having a look here.

As you can see, they're not here anymore.

So where do we find it?

Let's go to our system messages, and from there we can see Felicia has sent us back all of our TC!

So, let's just keep claiming it, and get all of our TC back from when we sent it out earlier.

Now after all of that, you might be asking yourself the question of, why would I breed

my high level Pet just to get a low level Pet or some skill books? Well, you do so because

the new Pet that you get will have a chance of getting more skill slots, which you then

use the skill books to place the skills into those skill slots, so over time your Pets

will get more and more useful, they'll have different skills, there's more to them,

and it's just a fun way of getting new Pets.

And here's a bit more information for you:

When you breed your Pets, you don't get to choose what skill slots they have, what

skills they have, and what they look like, it's random! Just like when you have an

actual baby or when you actually breed your Pets!
