Youtube daily report Dec 21 2017

Korea's central bank governor projects that if there are no surprises, the local economy

is expected to maintain its growth momentum through next year... on the back of the country's

robust exports.

Kim Ji-yeon gives us the details.

At a meeting with economic experts on Thursday, Bank of Korea Governor Lee Ju-yeol said the

South Korean economy will continue to grow and will reach its potential growth rate of

three percent next year on the back of the global economic recovery,... under the assumption

that there are no surprises on the way that may trigger a setback.

This comes as the Governor looked back on 2017, which was riddled with uncertainties

including the impeachment of President Park Geun-hye, increased trade protectionist measures,

and nuclear and missile provocations from North Korea.

(Korean ) "Despite these hardships, the local economy

has managed to keep its growth rate in the three-percent range this year...

mainly due to companies' efforts to achieve high levels of exports."

( 3% ... .)

He said Korean exports grew at the fastest rate among any of the ten major exporting

countries during the first nine months this year.

Its trade volume exceeded one-trillion U.S. dollars for the first time in three years.

And the volume of Korean exports is expected to increase for the 14th consecutive month

in December... as data from the Korea Customs Services shows it grew more than 16-percent

during the first 20 days of this month compared to the previous year... to reach 31-and-half-billion

dollars for the month,... mainly due to semiconductor exports.

The BOK Governor did however cite normalization of monetary policies including rate hikes

by major economies as a major risk that could hamper growth.

In order to maneuver through these potential risks, he stressed the country needs to address

its structural problems that are weighing on the recovery pace of the local economy,...

mainly the one-point-three-trillion dollar household debt, record-high youth unemployment

and low birthrate.

Low-ranking N. Korean soldier defects to S. Korea via DMZ, several gunshots heard at border - Duration: 2:25.

This morning, a North Korean soldier defected to South Korea via the inter-Korean land border...

just five weeks after the dramatic defection at the Joint Security Area.

And there were several gunshots heard at the inter-Korean border.

For more, we have our Oh Jung-hee on the phone from the Ministry of National Defense in Seoul.

Jung-hee, what's the latest?

Mark, this happened just four hours ago,... a low-ranking North Korean soldier defected

to South Korea through the Demilitarized Zone.

He appeared in front of a guard post on the mid-western front at just past eight this

morning,... and South Korean guards and surveillance equipment identified him.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said... after checking his intent to defect, the military carried

out 'appropriate actions'.

He was safely secured... and the related institutions will investigate why and how the soldier defected.

But unlike earlier reports, it turns out that there were several gunshots at the border.

At around 9:24, the South Korean military found several North Korean soldiers approaching

the Military Demarcation Line while searching for the soldier who defected.

At 9:30, the South's military turned on warning broadcasts and fired 20 rounds of a K-3 machine

gun.

No more soldiers approached the border afterwards,... but the military heard gunshots coming from

the North at 10:13 and 10:16... which left no bullets or damage on the South Korean side.

Now that makes a total of four North Korean soldiers who've defected to South Korea this

year.

And the incident this morning comes only a month after a North Korean soldier defected

to the South... via the truce village of Panmunjeom.

He first drove a jeep to get near to the border and then ran south across the military demarcation

line,... and in that process, he was shot multiple times by several North Korean soldiers.

Other than the soldier this morning,... two North Korean civilians aboard a fishing boat

defected to South Korea last night.

South Korea's naval patrol plane found their vessel in the East Sea,... and the North Koreans

expressed their intent to defect to the South.

Back to you, Mark.

Bumrung Buri Morning Market - Thai Cuisine: Chiang Mai Edition | VLOGMAS 2017 - Duration: 2:18.

We are now at Bumrung Buri Morning Market near the Chiang Mai South Gate

This market is located indoors

My first dish is this omelet that I payed 10 baht for (25 cents)

First impression...

Great! Well cooked and smells like garlic

It's a delicious omelet

This market is kind of divided in two parts

One end of the market is sweet things

And the other end savory things

Between them you can also find some clothes and cosmetics

But it's still mostly food they sell here

You can eat here or have takeaway

Many different things

It's almost only locals here

That's how you know you've picked the right place to eat

When there's only locals, you can't go wrong

I chose the only dish this stall had available at the moment

It's a spicy pork noodle soup

It has blood pudding and pork in it

And like always when eating these soups, you add garnishments according to your taste

It's so good it brings tear to my eye

This is one of the best pork noodle soups I've tasted

It only costs 20 baht which is roughly 50 cents

Fast, warm, spicy and delicious food

My recommendations

The 20 Truths - ELON MUSK MOTIVATIONAL SPEECH - Duration: 22:53.

that's why I really thought to like how can I provide advice that would be most

helpful and I'm not sure I've given enough thought to to that to give you

the best possible answer but I think I think certainly being focused on

something that you're confident will have high value to someone else and just

being really rigorous in making that assessment because people are attend

tend to natural human tendency is wishful thinking so a challenge for

entrepreneurs is to say well what's the difference between really believing in

your ideals and sticking sticking to them versus pursuing some unrealistic

dream that doesn't actually have merit and it's it's that is a that is a really

difficult thing to to tell you can you tell the difference between those two

things yeah so you need to be sort of very

rigorous in your self self analysis I think certainly extremely tenacious and

and then just work like hell I mean you just have to put in you know 80 hour 80

100 hour weeks every week and then matter like that all those things

improve the odds of success okay I mean if other people are putting in 40 hour

work weeks and you're putting in 100 hour work weeks then even if you're

doing the same thing you know that in in one year you will achieve what they

achieve you will achieve in four months what it takes them a year to achieve how

do you think about making a decision when everyone tells you this is a crazy

idea where do you get the internal strength to do that I'm office well I'd

say I actually think I feel feel fear quite strongly so it's not as though I

just have the absence of fear I've I feel it quite strongly but yeah there

were times when if something is important enough you believe in it

enough that you do you do it in spite of the fear so speaking of important things

like people shouldn't think I I I should if you should think well I feel fear

about this and therefore I shouldn't do it it's normal to be

feel fair like you'd have to definitely something mentally wrong you shouldn't

feel fair so you just feel it and let the importance of it anyway yeah you

know actually we're something that can be helpful as fatalism some degree you

could just think it's just accept the probabilities then that diminishes fear

so my starting SpaceX I thought the odds of success were less than 10% and I just

accepted that actually probably I would just lose lose everything but that maybe

would make some progress if we could just move the ball forward even if we

died maybe some other company could pick up the baton and move and keep moving

forward so that were slowly some good yeah same with Tesla I thought the odds

of a car company succeeding were extremely low when does happy focused on

which walks in and money coming in when creating companies because otherwise the

company will die so that I think that a lot of times people think like creating

company is gonna be fun I would say it's not it's really not that fun I mean

there are periods of fun and there are periods of where to where she's awful

and particularly if you a CEO of the company you actually have a distillation

of all the worst problems in the company there's no point in spending your time

on things that are going right so you only spend on things on your time on

things that are going wrong and and there are things that are going wrong

that other people can't can't take care of so you're like the worst you have a

filter for the crappers problems in the company the most pernicious and painful

problem so I wouldn't say it's it's I think you have to feel quite compelled

to do it and have a fairly high pain threshold and there's a friend of mine

who says like starting companies like staring at the abyss and eating glass

and there's some truth to that

we're staring it's the best part is that you're going to be constantly facing the

extermination of the company because most startups fail like 90% ugly 99% of

starts fail so I so you that that's the staring into the abyss part you can't

stir constantly saying okay this if I don't get this right the company will

die it should be quite right for quite stressful and and then the eating glass

part is you've got you've got to do you've got to be the pawns you gonna

sell you're gonna work on the problems that the company needs you to work on

not the problems you want to work on and so that the that's you and I've working

on problems that that you'd really wish you weren't working on so that's the

eating class part then that goes on for a long time so how do you keep your

focus on the big picture when you're constantly faced with we could be out of

business in a month well it's just a very small percentage of mental energies

on the on the big picture like you know you know you know where you generally

headed heading for and and the fascial path is gonna be some sort of zigzagging

thing in that direction you try not to deviate too far from the path that that

you want to be on but you're gonna have to do that some degree

but I don't want to I don't want to diminish the I mean I think the product

the profit motive is it is a is a good one if the rules of an industry are

properly set up there's something fundamentally wrong with puppet in fact

profit just means that people are paying you more for whatever you're doing then

you're spending to create it that's a good thing and if you're not if that's

not the case then you'll be out of business and rightfully so you're not

adding enough value it would definitely advise people there's not any company to

expect a long period of quite high difficulty yeah but it means long as

people stay super focused on creating absolute best product or service that

really delights their end customer like if they stay focused on that then it

should basically if you get a search that your customers want you to succeed

then then you probably will all right you have to focus on the customer

delivering for them yeah make sure if your customers W you will

your odds of success are dramatically higher when you're building something

new there's going to be mistakes and it's important to to recognize those

mistakes acknowledge them and take corrective action yeah and a successful

company is very much more about how quick are you to fix the mistakes not

will you make mistakes or admit mistakes absolutely yeah and if you see the

difference between a startup that is successful and one that is not it's

because the successful one they're both made mistakes but the successful one

recognize the mistakes fix them very quickly and the unsuccessful one tries

to deny that the mistakes exist you know extremely smart people are sometimes

quite arrogant because they believe in what they believe in right and so when

they face criticism it's less likely to admit you know they they can make

mistakes was that in your case I learnt it when I

was doing when I was studying physics mm-hmm the the you know in physics

you're taught to always question yourself you're taught to always assume

that you're wrong not to seem that you're right and you have to prove

yourself not not wrong and so I think that that that

physics framework is really where where I learnt it and it's very effective for

under for learning counterintuitive things that aren't obvious mmm-hmm so

you are very famous in saying that failure is actually an option and if

you're not failing but that means you're not in all they doing yeah it's not like

I like failure your likes failure was terrible but if you only do things that

are certain to succeed then you're only gonna be doing a very obvious thing did

you think I need to pack this in Devin why not

I don't ever give up I'd have to be dead or completely incapacitated when

interview someone to work in the companies to be to ask me to tell me

about the problems that they worked on and how they solved them and if someone

was really the person who solved it they'll be able to answer multiple

levels they'll be able to go down to the brass tacks and if they would they'll

get stuck and then you can say oh this person was not really the person who

solved it because anyone who struggled hard with a problem never forgets

gonna make sure that whatever you're doing is a great product or service and

it has to be really great and I go back to what I said earlier where if you're a

new company I mean this it's like some new industry or new market that added if

it's an untapped market or then then you have more ability to give is this the

standard is lower for your product or service but if you're entering anything

where there's an existing market place against lodge entrenched competitors

then your product or service needs to be much better than theirs it can't be a

little bit better because then you put yourself in the shoes of the consumer

and they say why would you buy it as consumer we're just gonna pry the

trusted brand unless there's a big difference so a lot of times you know

entrepreneur will come up with something which is only slightly better and it's

it's not you can't just be slightly better it's got to be a lot better if

you're creating company or if you're joining a company the most important

thing is to I I try it is to attract great people so either be with join a

group that's amazing that you really respect before if you're building a

company you've got to gather great people I mean all the company is is a

group of people that have gathered together to create a product or service

and so depending upon how talented and hardworking that group is and degree to

which they'll focused cohesively in a good direction that will determine the

success of the company so do everything you can to to gather

great people if you're creating a company really liking what you do

whatever area that you get into given that you know even if you if you're the

best the best there's always a chance of failure so I think it's important that

you really like whatever you're doing if you don't like it life is too short if

you like what you're doing you think about it even when you're not working I

mean it'll just it's something that your mind is drawn to and and if you don't

like it you just really can't make it work I think depending on how well you

want to do particularly if you're starting a company you need to work

super hard so what is super heart mean well when my brother and I were starting

our first company instead of getting an apartment we just rented us a small

office and we slept on the couch and we showered at the YMCA and we're so hot up

we had one computer so the the website was up during the day and I was coding

at night seven days a week all the time and I sort of briefly had a girlfriend

in that period and in order to be with me she had to sleep in the office so I

work hard like it mean every waking hour that's that's the the thing I would I

would say if your particular if you're starting a company and I mean if you do

simple math to say like okay if somebody else is working 50 hours and you're

working 100 you'll get twice as done as much done in the course of a year as the

other company so many people try to talk me out of starting a road company it was

it was crazy one good friend of mine collected a whole series of videos of

rockets blowing up and made me watch those you just didn't want me to lose

all my money we're doing these things that seem unlikely to succeed and we've

been fortunate and these thus far they have succeeded now is the time to take

risk you don't have kids as you get older your obligations increase so your

and once you have a family you start taking risks not just before yourself

but for your family as well it gets much harder to do things that might not work

out so now is the time to do that before you before you have those obligations so

I would encourage you to take risks now to do something bold you want to regret

it you focus on on signal over noise a lot of companies get confused they they

spend money on things that don't actually make the product better for

example at Tesla we've never spent any money on

advertising we put all the money into R&D and manufacturing and design to try

to make the car as good as possible and I think that's that's the way to go

before for any given company just keep thinking about are these efforts that

people are expending are they resulting in a better product or service and if

they're not stop those efforts how did you figure you were gonna start a car

company and be successful at it well I didn't really think Tesla would be

successful I thought we were most likely failed but I thought that we at least

could address the false perception that people had that an electric car had to

be ugly and slow and and boring like a golf cart but you say you didn't expect

the company to be successful then why try if something is important enough you

should try even if they probably outcome as failure what Tesla your goal has been

to make a better car and you've done that with an electric vehicle that

people covet that has quite a cult following that's upgradable but you also

want to achieve and your turn of phrase is very nice or try to achieve this

Platonic ideal of a car right to reach your perfection so what does the perfect

car look like well I'm gonna do I do use that phrase with our assuring sign team

that aspirationally we're in pursuit of the Platonic ideal of the perfect car

and here's what that looks like actually but it's I want to try to make every

element of the car as as flawless as possible and they'll always be you know

some degree of imperfection but try to minimize that and create a car that is

just a line fill in every way and I think if you do that then the rest kind

of takes care of itself doing business sometimes requires no

assistance and sometimes could be very boring do you have the same fun from

innovation as from business running a business well just an innovator engineer

instead of a business owner or runner I mean I'd love to just do innovation work

and just do engineering but you raise a good point because you know a lot of

life in general in any job there's like you have to do your chores you know

there's no nobody can do that for you well it's yet I think to be successful

at almost anything you can't if you have to do the tough stuff and as well as the

enjoyable stuff you have to do the boring stuff as well as the non boring

stuff and if you don't do your chores then bad things will happen but if they

don't do the things that they don't like to do then the company will be in

trouble yeah like you have to basically be like it's more fun to cook the meal

than to clean the dishes okay but you need to clean the dishes do SpaceX and

you've said that your ultimate goal is to get humankind to Mars I've heard your

response to the question but these guys need to hear it why is Mars important

why does Mars matter sure well the it's really a fundamental surgeon we need to

make as a civilization you know what kind of future do we want do you want a

future where we have forever confined to one planet until some eventual

extinction event however far in the future that might occur or do we want to

become a multi-planet species and and then ultimately be out there among the

stars me among many planets many star systems and I think the latter is a far

more exciting and inspiring future than the former and and Mars is the next

natural step in fact it's the only planet we really have a shot at at

establishing a self-sustaining city on and and I think once we do establish

such a city there will be a strong forcing function for the improvement of

spaceflight echnology that will then enable us to establish colonies

elsewhere in the solar system and ultimately extend beyond the

beyond our solar system and and so there's the defensive reason of

protecting the future of humanity ensuring that the light of consciousness

is not extinguished should some calamity before earth but also and that's the

defensive reason but personally I find the more the word what it gets me more

excited is is the fact that this would be an incredible adventure maybe like

the greatest adventure ever and it will be exciting and inspiring and they need

to be things that excite and inspire people yeah

you have to be you know reasons why you get up in the morning it can't just be

solving problems it's got to be yeah something something great is gonna

happen in the future yeah we talked about this at length yesterday it's it's

not an exit strategy or a back-up plan humankind earth fails right it's also to

inspire people on earth right and to transcend and to seek to go beyond our

mental limits of what we think we can achieve right I mean I think it's sort

of how incredible the Apollo program was and just yeah I mean if you ask anyone

and to name name some of humanity's greatest achievements in the 20th

century the Apollo program landing on the moon would wouldn't it and in many

of my most places be number one 2001 with just just touring a friend of mine

and you asked me yes we was gonna have to pay pal and I thought well you know I

was wondering like I'd like to get involved in space but I I just didn't

think there was anything for you as an individual and but as curious as to win

we wintered NASA would be sanding a team to Mars because that was always gonna be

the thing to do after I've moved I figured that there'd be some plan and I

just go to websites and I could read the you know the schedule then Mars there's

oh yeah it's like okay 2017 good okay but actually there wasn't anything on on

the website and at least I thought like I cannot find it

like what's going on right here and it's a secret I don't know I said but it

turned out that that NASA had done a study on what it would cost us and to do

a manned Mars mission and I this was under Bush the first and I suppose he

asked for a 90-day study short left taking office and NASA came back with a

500 billion dollar price tag and he said okay maybe not billion IV that's been

500 billion dollars with serious money in for the government so I so then that

got totally shelf and it was like you were not allowed to talk about any kind

of crude mission to Mars at NASA anyway so I thought well if I can do something

that word galvanize public interest that and then that public interest would

translate to additional appropriations for NASA whose the budget then maybe

they could do it so the foot so actually what I sort of thinking I would do is

send out a small greenhouse the surface of Mars or seeds in dehydrated gel and

then upon landing hydrate the gelatine or the plants and the public tests

respond to precedents and superlatives so this would be the farthest that

life's ever traveled the first life on laws I try to subtract I got how to do

this with the proceeds that I had from from PayPal and I was able to figure out

how to get the cost of the spacecraft down and the communications and and the

little of greenhouse and everything but the one thing I couldn't compress was

the cost launch because there only a few options and the us options were way too

expensive and they ended up going to Russia three times to try to buy the

biggest ICBM and the Russian nuclear fleet

that's where I'd start yeah yeah go baby well yeah I mean okay but they it was so

there were some strange trips that's for sure

but you know it's like virtually like you can buy any it's a very capitalist

society some ways so I actually didn't go she had a deal to buy two of the

ICBMs - the nukes but I came to conclusion have that third trip that it

wouldn't really matter like you for the food

I actually came inclusion that my initial premise was was was wrong

because I actually think there's as tourists about a will in the American

population particularly to to explore the United States

you know maybe more than any other country is a distillation of the human

spirit of exploration and it's really fundamental to psyche so if people think

there's a way I think it actually get a lot of support but but then it can't be

just banging your head against the wall I gotta believe that this can be done

without breaking the federal budget so that's when I said okay well is there

some way to affect the cost of space transport and an is good and it's hope I

got together with a group of people of her series of Saturday's just to just

try it outside is there something super expand 'mentally super expensive about

rockets or can the cost be substantially improved and I had a bunch of those kind

of brainstorming sessions and I couldn't see I couldn't say any fundamental

obstacle to improving the cost of rockets so

and that's when I started SpaceX it's like I'll just build them myself yeah

and then but I said at that point I would say the probability of success was

definitely less than 30% I thought it would most likely not succeed but was

worth a try

DRAMA! Trump's Assistant Dan Scavino UNLEASHED On "LEAKER" Adam Schiff- He Is Cornered! - Duration: 2:12.

DRAMA! Trump's Assistant Dan Scavino UNLEASHED On "LEAKER" Adam Schiff- He Is Cornered!

The whole time during Donald Trump Jr's 8-hour testimony to the House Intelligence

Committee, Adam Schiff (D-CA) was noticed leaving the room several times sneaking out

of it.

As this was witnessed, CNN has immediately started to release details about the hearing

in an attempt to turn the lights off of Schiff.

It's supposed that Adam is actually one of the leakers.

Former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer, Tuesday tweeted: "Just a reminder that CNN,

CBS and MSNBC have yet to explain how numerous "independent" sources all misread the

date on an email in calls to each of those three outlets.

No explanation.

None," and Dan Scavino, Trump's assistant and director of social media, came to respond

with: "Perhaps they are waiting to hear back from Leaker Schiff?"

– rightly assuming Adam was one of the ears of the media.

The assumptions are more than obvious, we might say, that Adam Schiff is actually the

leaker.

Added to this Republicans requested the members responsible for violating the rules to be

taken out from the investigation.

On the other hand, Andrew McCabe testified for 7.5 hours to the House Intelligence Committee

and no information was leaked to CNN from this hearing.

The suspicion is on ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee Adam Schiff (D-CA)

and Republicans will launch a probe into Russia investigation leakers.

Having in mind that Donald Trump Jr's team were asked to hand in their phones when the

hearing started, they did not find out about the leaking news from the testimony until

several hours after.

His team requested an investigation to find out if it is Adam Schiff for sure or maybe

someone else.

Adam Schiff has surely dragged himself into a big mess that he will never get away from.

This is the beginning of his end and we can check one leaker down, many to go.

Plum Johnson shares her #ONEFIVEOH - Duration: 2:43.

- I'm Plum Johnson, and this is my ONEFIVEOH.

(campfire sounds)

I'm an immigrant to Canada.

My parents emigrated here in 1952.

They had met during the war in England.

Mom was American, dad was British.

So they looked around for a tolerant country,

and Canada was it!

Canada agreed to take them in,

so we crossed at Fort Erie, in January.

There was ice and snow as far as you could see.

Dad was determined to give us Canadian experiences,

and one of them was teaching us how to ski.

On most Sundays, he would strap all our skis and sleds

on top of the red Pontiac Station Wagon.

Then we'd drive north, but we'd drive north for miles

because he would never take us to a ski club

because that cost money to get in.

And besides that, he didn't believe in ski tows,

because he said walking up a hill strengthened your ankles.

That was the story he told us, anyway.

So, one day we were driving north

and he spied this particularly good hill,

because it was very, very steep,

but it also had this second little

bump of a hill at the bottom.

And we saw these signs and we said,

"But Dad, it all says no trespassing!"

And he said, "Nonsense, that doesn't apply to us!"

So we clambered over the hill,

and he lined us all up at the top,

and Sandy and I went down first on our skis.

Robin was too young I think, to have skis.

So he was on one of those Happy Time sleds

that you lie on your stomach

and you steer with the handlebars.

So Sandy and I got down to the bottom of the hill,

and we look back up and there was dad,

about to give this running push to Robin on his sled.

And all of a sudden, this big gust of wind came

from the bottom of the valley, and blew the snow off

the little bump at the bottom,

and it was a barbed wire fence.

So we started screaming, "No, dad! No!"

But it was too late, he'd already given Robin the shove,

and we started screaming at Robin, "Jump! Jump!"

And Robin just went straight into the barbed wire fence,

and it went across, in his mouth like a horse's bit,

and kind of ricocheted him off.

We spent the rest of the day in the Orangeville Hospital,

where they gave him this kind of cool pink plastic lip,

a new one, and I've never really liked skiing since then.

- [Female Interviewer] How is Robin now?

Fine!

He has a big beard, you don't even notice.

Germany Reportedly Favors Typhoon to Replace Tornado, Also Eyeing F-15, F/A-18 | planes channel - Duration: 19:13.

Germany Reportedly Favors Typhoon to Replace Tornado, Also Eyeing F-15, F/A-18 | planes channel

An official statement from the German Ministry of Defense says it is now leaning toward purchasing Eurofighter Typhoon multi-role fighter jets rather than F-35 Joint Strike Fighters as replacements for the country's Cold War-era Panavia Tornado swing-wing combat aircraft, and could consider Boeings F-15 Eagle or F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, as well.

The significant shift away from Lockheed Martin's fifth generation aircraft could be a reflection of a variety of factors, including the stealthy jet's long term cost, security concernsregarding the cloud-based Autonomic Logistics Information System computer network that supports the jets, and cool relations between Germany and the United States.

Deputy Defense Minister Ralf Brauksiepe explained the ministry's official position in response to a letter for more information about the replacement program from an unnamed Green Party legislator, which Reuters obtained.

In addition to the Typhoon and the F-35, an unspecified version of Boeing's F-15 Eagle and that firm's F/A-18E/F Super Hornet are also in the mix of potential options.

In November 2017, a senior German defense official, speaking anonymously, described the F-35 as the country's "preferred choice" to replace the Tornados.

"The indicated view of the inspector of the air force that the F-35 Lightning II is an especially suitable successor to the Tornado system is not the position of the federal government," Brauksiepe wrote in the letter, according to Reuters.

The unnamed official had previously indicated that only the F-35 could meet the requirements of the German Air Force, or Luftwaffe, because of its low-observable characteristics and that it was already in production.

Germany wants to have completely replaced all of its approximately 85 Tornados by 2030, a process that it expects to take at least five years. The Luftwaffe could easily need those replacements earlier, though.

In 2015, Deutsche Welle reported that only approximately 30 Tornados were actually combat ready at any one time. A year earlier, Der Spiegal obtained a report that said fewer than 70 percent were even airworthy at all.

Considering the relatively small fleet size, this doesnt appear to be caused in part by a programmatic decision or one based on large-scale deployment needs, but primarily by years of shrinking German defense budgets following the end of the Cold War.

Replacing the Tornados with Typhoons could make a significant amount of sense for Germany, which already operates multiple squadrons of the type.

In November 2017, the Luftwaffe sent six of them to Israel to join that countrys Blue Flag exercise for the first time ever.

Eurofighter, a consortium that includes portions of Airbus Defense in Germany and Spain, BAE Systems in the United Kingdom, and Leonardo in Italy, manage the development and production of the fighter jets.

A major sale to the Luftwaffe could be worth billions to the group and help keep the production line running and its employees at work, an important domestic consideration for the Germans.

11, 2017, Qatar signed a deal for 24 of its own Eurofighters, making it the ninth country to buy the type.

This alone could mean significant lower training and maintenance costs, not to mention saving on large infrastructure needs, compared to acquiring an entirely new type of aircraft, and especially one with high secondary cost demands like the F-35.

It also could make it easier for the Luftwaffe to quickly absorb the new aircraft into its inventory.

Existing Typhoon variants are already compatible with the targeting and reconnaissance pods the Luftwaffe uses on the Tornado, as well as many of its weapons.

Saab has already tested the Taurus KEPD 350 cruise missile on one of the fourth generation fighter jets, as well, giving it a relatively long-range standoff attack capability. The Swedish firm makes the weapon in cooperation with European missile consortium MBDA.

MBDA is also working to integrate the dual-mode version of the Brimstone air-to-surface missile, which features both laser- and millimeter wave radar guidance options and can attack moving targets, onto the U.  Royal Air Force's Typhoons.

New Eurofighters could also take on multiple roles and offer an expanded capability in air-to-air combat if they include the CAPTOR-E active electronically scanned array radar, a relatively simple and effective way to extend the jets ability to spot and track hostile aerial threats.

New versions could also sport the PIRATEIRST, an infrared search and tracking systemGermany left off its existing fleet for cost saving concerns.

Germany has already expressed an interest in integrating both CAPTOR-E and the MBDA Meteor advanced beyond visual range air-to-air missile into its existing Typhoons, which would result in a massive leap in air combat capability.

The Luftwaffe could require special modifications to their new aircraft in order for them to take over the Tornado's nuclear strike mission.

At present, the United States maintains a stockpile of B61 nuclear gravity bombs in Germany that it could release to German units in a crisis. The Tornados are the only German aircraft that can carry these weapons at present.

But Germany, like many of its fellow NATO members, is increasingly concerned by Russia's foreign policy, which has only become more revanchist since the Kremlin seized control of Ukraine's Crimea region in 2014.

In spite of international criticism and economic sanctions, Moscow has only deepened its support for separatists fighting the government in Kiev and stepped up harassment of European countries opposed to its policies, including with electronic warfare and cyber attacks.

And what Typhoon lacks is the low-observable features of the F-35. The unnamed German defense official had insisted in their November 2017 comments that the Luftwaffe needed a stealth aircraft to match the increasing capability of foreign air defense systems, particularly Russian-made designs.

The Kremlins deployment of S-400 surface-to-air missile systems to its Kaliningrad enclave on the Baltic Sea mean parts of Germany are already within range of these weapons at all times.

That the Joint Strike Fighter was the only western fifth generation aircraft in series production, another key requirement for any aircraft destined to replace the aging Tornados, made it appear to be the only available choice.

At the same time, though, the costs of purchasing, maintaining, and operatinga fifth generation aircraft have also proven to be high and the F-35 continues to struggle through its development.

As of October 2017, more than 20 percent American F-35s across were non-flyable due to a lack of spare parts alone, according to the Government Accountability Office, a U.S.

On top of that, there have been growing concerns among many partners to the Joint Strike Fighter program outside the United States that the Autonomic Logistics Information System, or ALIS, is multi-faceted security threat.

In addition to harvesting data about the aircraft's components and whether they need replacement or other maintenance, the computer system acts as a loader for the aircraft's operational data packages, which would include information on flight plans, potential threats and hazards, and other mission details.

It's also the port that ground crews would use to install patches to the jet's software.

There is a fear that this essential and centralized system could be vulnerable to cyber attacks, with an enemy potentially being able to feed in viruses that break or confuse the system, which in turn could effective ground the jets during a crisis.

Various countries have also become worried that the cloud-based network is collecting sensitive sovereign data and sending it straight to Lockheed Martin.

Australia, Italy, and Norway are all pushing for filters that would allow them to at least limit what does and doesn't get into the ground-based portion of the ALIS system.

Only Israel has been able to secure the right to install its own software packages separate from the network.

So it could be the opinion of the German Defense Ministry that the F-35 is not a particularly realistic option to replace the Tornados, despite being in production.

This would leave only advanced fourth generation designs, like the others that Deputy Defense Minister Brauksiepe mentioned in his letter.

In July 2017, Germany and France did announced plans to make their own stealthy jet, but as we at The War Zone have noted repeatedly, development cycles have proven to be lengthy and often exorbitantly expensive.

It's entirely unclear at this point when any aircraft the two countries jointly design will be available, or what form it might take, if it even comes to fruition at all.

France infamously bailed out of the Typhoon program in 1985 and decided to pursue its own design, which became the Dassault Rafale.

There may also be a political dimension. The relationship between U.S. President Donald Trump and Angela Merkel, who just won a fourth term as Germany's Chancellor, has been visibly cool.

The two have publicly sparred over a number of issues and Merkel has come out vocally against the Trump Administration's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

At the same time, her Christian Democrat (CDU) and Christian Social Union (CSU) political bloc failed to secure a majority in the last federal election and have so far been unable to form a majority coalition with other parties.

Their traditional partner, the Social Democratic Party (SPD) has refused to join the coalition this time, leaving a mix of leftist parties, including the Greens, and the right-wing populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) as the only other options.

Merkel has refused to work with AfD on principle. Domestic politics had already been a major issue in defense spending.

In January 2017, German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel, a member of the SPD, argued that any additional defense spending should be focused on supporting humanitarian interventions and related activities.

"Germany spends 30 to 40 billion Euros on supporting refugees because of military interventions years ago that went wrong," he said. A larger defense budget "should be considered a contribution to stabilization.

It could be increasingly politically untenable to entertain the idea of buying the F-35, or even Boeing's F-15 or F/A-18E/F, both due to the Trump Administration and the domestic political landscape.

With other European options, such as France's Rafale and Sweden's Gripen E also apparently not in the running, at least based on information available at this time, there may now be no other easily realizable option than the Typhoon.

Germany could buy more Typhoons and push forward with a new unmanned combat air vehicle (UCAV) program with France instead of a manned fifth generation fighter.

Doing so would cost far less than pursuing a high-end, clean-sheet fighter design, and these aircraft could pickup for the Typhoons shortfalls in the coming decades, as the Typhoon becomes increasingly less survivable.

Namely these advanced drones could be used for deep strike, reconnaissance, and suppression of enemy air defenses, as well as manned-unmanned teaming, working as the automated wingman for Typhoon pilots.

A UCAV would also feature a far stealthier, broadband low-observable overall design compared to the F-35.

Also, such an initiative would help secure Germany a foothold on the future of air combat, which will be increasingly less likely to have humans sitting at flight controls. .

In the meantime, Germany could enjoy the large efficiencies of operating a single multi-role manned tactical fast jet fleet, as well as the aforementioned upgrades in combat power these jets, old and new, would feature.

Standoff weaponry could be procured in the near-term for the most perilous of strike missions.

On the other hand, if the political hurdles could be overcome, Super Hornets, and the latest version of the F-15 Strike Eagle in particular, could provide Germany with a power fighter capability.

But considering the industrial benefits of just sticking with the Typhoon, not to mention all the other reasons laid out above, the introduction of either type seems quite doubtful.

Every twist and turn in this saga only means that Germany is getting closer to when it will need to have a replacement for the Tornados ready or risk losing the capability those units offer altogether.

The Defense Ministry and the Luftwaffe will have to reach some sort of consensus to avoid any additional delays in the process.

Carrie Underwood Just Got Devastating News 4 Days After Publicly RIPPING Trump. - Duration: 4:57.

Carrie Underwood Just Got Devastating News 4 Days After Publicly RIPPING Trump.

Carrie Underwood hasn't just been a chart-topping country star, she's always been one of conservative's

favorite songstresses with her American-loving lyrics and family values.

That all changed recently when she derailed off into anti-Trump territory, joining liberal

Hollywood in their constant attack on our president.

The star didn't hold back when she took her rant public about the president, pulling

out all the stops in attacking him on everything she could think to make fun of the Commander-in-Chief

who her fans assume she supported or at least respected until her liberal vomit came spewing

out.

It's one thing for liberal actors and rappers to use every public appearance as an opportunity

to display their hate for Trump and his administration.

That's expected of this disrespectful, Barack Obama-loving crowd.

However, it came as a nasty surprise when typically conservative-leaning country music

artists went this route, totally disengaging from their Trump-supporting fan base.

We saw this take place at the Country Music Awards show on Wednesday, November 8, hosted

by Underwood and fellow country music star Brad Paisley.

Both were warned about bringing politics into the awards show and didn't listen and suffered

from that poor decision almost immediately.

But four days later, Underwood got hit particularly hard with an unexpected and shocking dose

of karma.

It's going to take a while to recover from this devastating blow.

Country music fans who are typically conservative and support our president and appreciate what

he's done to make America great again, lost all respect for Underwood and Paisley after

they decided to turn against the fans and the president on stage at the CMAs.

With total disregard for who was watching and the CMA executives orders, hosts Brad

Paisley and Carrie Underwood suggested Trump's a cheater in a song performance and put on

skits poking fun of some things he's done in the public eye.

They clearly crossed the line and the show's instant ratings plummet proved it, but Underwood

just took a really hard fall that her former fans are calling "karma" for her nasty

anti-Trump antics.

Dearly reports:

Singer Carrie Underwood recently ended up in the hospital with a broken wrist, after

she took a spill down the front steps of her Nashville home.

The accident happened just days after hosting the Country Music Association Awards with

Brad Paisley, during which the pair performed a head-turning political twist on her hit

"Before He Cheats" (changing out "cheats" for "tweets").

The song was a dig at President Donald Trump, and some believe the joke came back to bite

her.

While Underwood attempted to thank her well-wishers on Facebook after her accident, some fans

skipped the "feel better" messages and took aim at her Trump jokes.

"Did not think that you would participate in disrespecting our president.

I was disappointed.

Hope you feel better though," one person responded to Underwood's post on Facebook

addressing the fall.

"Hey Carrie, keep politics out of music.

You really screwed the pooch this time!

No one asked you in the first place!

Of course, you could always run for president if you think you can handle it," another

former fan wrote on her post.

"Winning a contest for loudmouths would certainly qualify you for the DNC.

I will never buy your music again.

If I hear it on the radio, I'm changing the station," that same Facebook user added.

Another former fan used the post to give the singer some advice:

"Not a very good way to keep fans.

We have to many liberals who feed off these comments with all the fake news.

You should retract or stay with the people who don't respect the USA or it's leader."

Sharing that same overwhelming sentiment of disappointment, one fan commented, "Don't

know what you said but if you disrespected our president even if someone " just wrote

it for you to say" that is unAmerican and I can no longer respect/follow you.

I thought you were above all of that.

Very sad."

While we would never celebrate in someone's physical accident for any reason, the comments

on this post are what's Underwood's karma.

She's facing the music of what happens when you disrespect Trump and your fans who support

our president and once supported you.

It's disturbing that not a single awards show in the eight years Barack Obama was president

ruthlessly mocked him, as almost every one of them in the past 10 months of Trump's

presidency has.

There would be outrage for days if the tables were turned on this.

These country stars didn't listen to the warnings from their show association and didn't

care about those who pay to see them and support their career.

These singers are not different than the entitled players in the NFL.

They should have learned from the demise of the NFL for going down this same path an now

Underwood's career will likely suffer a similar price for it.

What do you think about this?
