Youtube daily report Dec 21 2017

Launch controller: ROC, report range status.

Launch controller: Range green.

Launch commentator: T-minus five, four, three, two, one.

Go for main engine start.

Zero and liftoff.

This is no ordinary aircraft.

And on board is no ordinary spacecraft.

This C-5 Super Galaxy is hauling something special.

"It can carry what no other plane can carry in the Air Force.

Width, length, weight – you name it, it can get on that thing.

This jet can do it like no other jet."

After two years of construction at Lockheed Martin in Denver, and a few hours in the air,

NOAA's GOES-S has finally made it to Kennedy Space Center, where the countdown to T-zero

begins.

"It's always exciting to bring a satellite down to Kennedy Space Center and participate

in the whole activity of getting a satellite ready for launch."

"Getting it out here, rolling it into the launch processing facility, that is a very

big deal for us.

That's probably the hugest milestones in any spacecraft program, to ship.

It's not easy to transport something like this across the country."

"This is where the rubber meets the road.

This is where all the people that have worked on this program for a couple years culminates

in the excitement of getting ready for what we call "launch fever."

"So now, we get to do some of the fun stuff, like put it on a giant airplane and take it

to Kennedy Space Center, where we get to prepare it to go onto an Atlas V launch vehicle, and

launch."

It's the job of NASA's Launch Services Program to get GOES-S into orbit and they

have just a few months to do the final launch preps and inspections before a T-zero arrives.

This is no easy task with a spacecraft of this size and complexity.

In spaceflight, there are no second chances.

A successful launch is resting on their shoulders.

It has to be perfect the first time.

"It's very exciting.

I love being a part of this and I love being able to contribute to the spacecraft and to

its success."

GOES-S is the second part of a weather satellite upgrade project NOAA is undertaking,

destined to save lives by modernizing our weather forecasting ability.

"We have a very young team and, some of them, this will be their first campaign.

So we're trying to put the excitement into that, let them feel what it's like to touch

the spacecraft for the last time.

Launch operations is a time we all get together for one goal, which is launch."

But achieving that goal will not be easy.

The road to T-zero has just begun.

Tesla 100D Review on BRAND NEW CAR - Duration: 13:13.

well I am getting RX at I'm in a 100 deal owner it's brand new and it has 154

miles on it it's got autopilot 2.0 it's got the wood - trim that really faint

leather it's actually not too bad it feels about about

yes it feels about what what the textile feels like my and my 90d my first time

driving a autopilot 2.0 or guessin kind of be 2.5 now but the upgraded computer

systems that they've done for more redundancy so I am going to be doing a

full review on this car I for one can still say as a December 8th 2017

autopilot 2.0 or 2 point X is worse yet then autopilot 1 this thing is doing a

very bad or having a very hard time staying in the lanes

I haven't actually gotten to drive 100 kilowatt hour car yet either but

acceleration feels the same

we only got 142 miles of charge left so I guess I'll play around with it under

the supercharger pit either way the overall finishing feels

actually improved yet again they put some Alcantara down by the door handles

here and the headliner they used to be

let's see for starters I have gotten a 100 deep now supercharging right now

we're at a hundred and seventy four and miles Wow paid supercharging but zero

dollars because it's a test loan car how about that Lisa not charging me for

super charging there's my car doesn't limit it now it looks like this cars got

the high powered charger it's got a 72 amp AC charger in it we're at 271 rated

miles on this car now what okay it's 272 we're still charging at fifty-six

kilowatt hour now my ninety D which is one year old with fifty thousand miles

on it it has a maximum rated charge at 100% of two hundred and seventy two and

we're already at 273 on the 100 D and it's still going and that charge rate is

still we're really darkness we also has the built-in center console it's got the

nice wood interior and front what that's called

but let's see some resistance and it's got two

cupholders in careful now one problem that I saw that's as far as the door

goes back yet there's more storage towards the back thing you just can't

reach him so that was kind of interesting least that's two more cup

holders and then over here is where you can charge up your phone we have the

cream interior and beautiful actually looks really nice with the black

Alcantara actually it's not Alcantara with the black headliner with the

current generation of seats let's check out the seats

now these have something else that's kind of new they have what's I thought

were supposed to be adjustable headrests same switches it's on my card a little

bit different design newer design my crown is a black Alcantara headliner but

this is not this is more of a a textile let's see if I can get a better shot

from zoom in this is more of a textile

and they'll Qatar which I actually I like this doesn't be a lot harder to get

screwed up dirty a lot easier to clean a little more durable so that is somewhat

impressive their panoramic roof all glass panel roof and despite being all

glass it's it's it's got a real dark tint on very dark tint it's very

reflective as you can see hi but yet it's still easy to see through this wood

grain interior is just beautiful here yep

oh yeah here now this car does not have leather they don't Tesla doesn't do

leather any longer so it's got this fake leather so it's got the accented trim on

the door and the fake leather itself and I was a little skeptical I thought it

was gonna be like the model X's if Model S's

ultra white interior seats where they were very soft material and what I would

say extremely poor quality but this is actually a very durable material this

feels just pretty much like what's on my textile seats only instead of being a

mix of fabric and the vinyl or whatever this is the Fox leather it is all the

Fox leather and it's it's actually pretty decent

the floor mats and color carpeting color is

actually really nice too this is the all cream interior the cream

interior and it actually looks very nice this is very impressive and I and I do

like it but back to the trim here this is still pretty much the same crappy

foam material that's been on for about a year and a half now two years don't like

that one bit like the original much much more durable if we look inside the

handle get here

this is they actually put Alcantara they have Alcantara inside the

door-handle section here now these are the current what performance seats

extend seats once again very very nice material

they have USB ports in the rear finally this should have been on the cars from

day one for plus plus plus plus years ago there's more hidden are finally two

more cup holders so they have these nice easily breakable cup holders now if

someone little kid in the car seat takes a foot and smacks down on them but at

least we got them in folks I can hold a big gulp once again I'm really really

loving this cream interior it's kind of weird this is a little bit

different design of the of the seats than are what in my car the brackets

holding them down looking at the trim trims looking pretty good here pretty

good and then traditional Tesla fail on the weather stripping

having the same problems that's popping off actually all this is popping off a

bank are some of the wife's shopping spoils she's not a personal shopper I

got the UMC in there this one's got some sort of advance sound or the upgraded

sound it's got the subwoofer still nice big spot in the back someone did a very

poor job at the polishing of this car swirl marks galore on a brand new

vehicle

now one thing I will say right off the bat that's different than my car his

mind has a rubberized panel that's on the top of the hood here so anything

that might be bouncing around inside the front does not hit it and cause

excessive noise got the molded plastic panels here the trunk is definitely a

lot smaller than even by ninety d and i'd say one-third the size of a original

to 2013 or 2014 non dual motor Model S

that's some interesting intake here it's a lot bigger than the small little

intake on mine has you got the license plate bracket on the tow hook and the

emergency release oh this is car number 216 thousand seven hundred and

fiftyThree cool this one's got autopilot 2.0 so

it's got all the extra cameras three up there test the side markers here

the pillars

tellers there as of December 8th 2017 over a year after autopilot 2 has been

introduced autopilot 2 is still nowhere near as reliable or as capable as

autopilot 1 I have driven between Milwaukee and Highland Park plenty of

times the roads blah blah blah and this car couldn't maintain a lane if its life

depended on it the only way it can maintain a good Lane was if I was

following behind another vehicle for it to also lock on to does not hook in so

that's kind of broken the plastic looks a little overly melting what did this

baby cost technicals let's see here let's see upgrade price ok base ninety

seven thousand five hundred for the Model S one hundred d enhanced autopilot

five grand glass roof included Wow cream interior 3300 holy crap nineteen inch

slip streams thousand no included midnight silver metallic paint thousand

bucks premium interior lighting included figured ash wood decor including ultra

high fidelity sounds package included premium interior and lighting five grand

smart air suspension hybrids charger upgrade in sub-zero weather package

included I think those are all part of the premium interior there's a lot of

not rated for the safety ratings there we go

baby's got bass so we're gonna turn that down there yeah it passed

music test this one has the new LED headlights so low beam high beam I mean

low beam high beam blow me while the light is nice crisp and focused the

range and distance that they display is comes up quite a bit shorter than the

Zeon's and in my my 90-day so I get an adaptive headlights turned on I wanna

see if moving or much of anything happening that is the 100 deal owner I

have right now

REPAIR - APS CAM870 DOUBLE FEED | AIRSOFT - Duration: 3:15.

After playing around with my full length CAM870 shotgun for a while I noticed that it double feeds.

I work with the hypothesis that the shell latch arms are the cause of the double feed,

since two shells are being loaded onto the carrier at once.

So let´s remove some parts to get a better view.

I remove the recoil pad

The stock

The Pins

And the Trigger group.

For more detailed disassembly instructions watch my previous video.

I ake sure to leave the shell latch arms and their locking plate.

I also reinsert the rear trigger group pin, so the arms won't come loose during operation.

I will compare my functional CAM870 AOW to my double feeding CAM870P.

I load up both shotguns with two empty shells.

No gas, no BB's.

Then I rack the forend to see the end result.

As suspected!

The shell latch arm below the ejection port is slightly bent out of alignment.

Just by a fraction of a millimetre.

And during special circumstances, this could cause a double feed.

So I remove the pin,

plate,

and finally the shell latch arm below the ejection port.

Time to fix the problem.

I will attempt to save my shell latch arm with a vice instead of buying a new one.

Thankfully I have my working shell latch arm from my AOW as a reference.

Notice the slight difference.

I place the shell latch arm in my vice, and guestimate the angle of the dangle.

I bend the arm slightly, install it in my shotgun and see if the problem persists.

If so I remove it, bend it slightly more, and repeat until perfection.

I noticed that some force is necessary.

So I use plenty of might.

For King and Country!

When it no longer dubble feeds it's time to reassemble!

DONE!

I have now solved the double feeding issue.

I can load my shotgun, and it works as intended!

Let's test fire this thing!

That's it!

Pops Ep. 9 "Shaka Senghor Writes a New Chapter" - Duration: 7:17.

(upbeat music)

(upbeat music)

- So this is a letter to the victim of my crime.

When you and I encountered each other,

I was already programmed to kill.

And I've spent the last 17 years learning

just how wrong I was.

When I got arrested, I had a three month old daughter

and I had a son on the way.

And then, in prison, I forfeited the opportunity

to raise them as a hands on father.

And that's one of the things that I've kept

bottled up for so long, like how deeply painful

it is to know that I have two adult children

who I have a very loose relationship with.

So now the most important thing to me

is bein' a father to my wonderful, young son Sekou.

Now I just pour all of what I would have poured into them,

I poured that into him.

Is that all?

- Yeah.

(congregation laughs)

- So I grew up on the east side of Detroit originally,

my formative years,

in a two parent household.

Unfortunately my parents divorced,

in the midst of that, I didn't really

get along with my mother.

So I ran away, got caught up in the drug culture,

age 17 I was shot multiple times.

And 14 months later, I got into a similar conflict

and shot and tragically caused a man's death.

I was subsequently sentenced to 17 to 40 years in prison.

And it was in solitary confinement

that I began to discover my passion for writing

and mentoring and thought about the things

that I would do if I was ever released from prison.

Which was work with young men and women

who grew up in similar circumstances.

And help them to make better decisions

than I made in my youth.

- New York too.

- [Shaka] You're goin' to New York?

- Yeah.

- [Shaka] When I leave there

guess where I'm goin'?

- What? - [Shaka] I'm goin' to Miami.

- I'm goin' to Miami too!

- [Shaka] Oh, we gotta hang out when you get in town.

I put forth a sincere effort to really turn my life around

and I wasn't gonna allow my circumstances

to dictate my legacy as a father and as a man.

You're awesome Sekou.

I travel a lot, I'm on the road a lot.

And then once I come home, we put forth

every effort to ensure that I have quality

time with Sekou.

- [Sekou] I'm gonna race you.

- [Shaka] Oh, you gonna race me?

- [Sekou] Yeah.

- Whenever we're about to cook or eat,

we have to wash our hands.

- So Shaka and I are co-parents.

We're best friends.

We are no longer a couple, however,

that has not stopped us from being the best

parents that we could possibly be to Sekou.

We met in 2005, I was a volunteer for an organization

that did work inside prisons.

And we started corresponding,

and started a relationship from there.

There is no one answer to why we broke up.

Truthfully, despite the fact that we thought

we were prepared for him coming home,

we were naive and we started to argue so much.

We realized we needed to step away.

- How you doin'?

You alright?

- [Sekou] Daddy!

- [Shaka] Juggling custody has been

interesting to say the least.

- I love you Dad.

- I won't say difficult because I have a great

parenting relationship with Ebony.

This is my little gift to you little boy.

- [Sekou] What, what is--

- Mommy can read it to you later though,

but Daddy wanna read it to you first.

And the first page says "Why you're so super Sekou.

"You're super talented at making people smile."

- [Ebony] Shaka travels a lot so we definitely

try to make sure that Sekou feels the love.

- "I love hearin' about your accomplishments.

"Mommy always tells me all the cool things you

"accomplish when I'm away."

- [Ebony] Even though he knows that we're not

together anymore, he doesn't feel the disconnect.

- [Sekou] I love you Dad.

- You do?

I love you.

(upbeat music)

My name is Shaka Senghor.

We drop it to the publisher, like outside of the books,

that we do mentoring programs.

I try to give back to the community.

What we ended up with is a warehouse

of misery and desperation.

- [Ebony] He has been on the grind

for the past five years.

He's very personable, he's a great networker.

- So this is my first trip to Kansas.

And I am with my hostesses and we've been pulled over

by a po-po back here, so we like got,

this is my intro to what so...

Young men and women if you ever wanna be a speaker,

this is what comes with it.

I'm prepping right now for this event.

Well it's almost the time to go on.

Hey! - [Staff] Gotta get

you mic'd up.

- [Shaka] Alright, they're ready to get me mic'd up.

I think one of the struggles that we have bein' fathers

is that we haven't created a space

where we can be vulnerable.

And where we can really honestly talk about

the things that we're afraid of.

Oftentimes, men aren't thought of as nurturers.

That in itself is one of the greatest tragedies

because our children need affection from us.

You know, like, my son needs to be hugged

and he needs to have kisses from me

and to know that not only do I love him,

but I care about him and his wellbeing

and his happiness.

- [Ebony] One, two, three.

Ah, mommy beat!

(Sekou laughs)

- [Shaka] Mommy won.

- I won baby.

- [Sekou] I won, I won Mommy.

- We're gonna go over Gigi's house babe.

- [Sekou] No!

- [Shaka] The difficult part for me

is like, the emotions and you know,

sometimes when he's with me, he doesn't wanna leave.

You know, he cries and that's always hard as a parent.

I'm kind.

- I'm kind.

- [Shaka] And I'm generous.

- I'm generous.

- [Shaka] One of the things that I think about often

is him findin' out why I was in prison

in a mean spirited way.

It's why I try to protect him and prepare him

by doin' affirmations, so he'll have an idea of who he is.

- I'm Sekou.

- [Shaka] Before somebody tries to tell him

who he is in a negative way.

More than anything I want Sekou to be proud of me

as a father.

And I want him to see the examples that I set

in the ways that I live my life that honor him.

He's been quietly and diligently working at one massive mission he's secretly been

on outside the public eye and now an exceptionally key person is in custody.

It's fair to say that from here, things are about to get really bad for certain people

who have already been under a heaping dose of scrutiny.

Now, their secrets are second from coming out in interrogation as long-awaited justice

is finally within reach.

There have been some massive scandals in our country over the last couple of years, none

of which have Trump at the center of them despite what liberals would love to say.

Among the most devastating have left a number of people dead and had we not elected someone

like Trump as president, they may have been forgotten.

Hillary Clinton has been tied to a lot of sudden and suspicious deaths stemming from

what people knew and were insistent on exposing about her.

She abides by the philosophy that "dead men don't talk," which have spared her

a lot of criminal charges….until now.

There are those out there with blood on their hands who have done Hillary's dirty work

and now one of the most important people who had a key role in her biggest scandal is now

in custody.

CBS News reports:

U.S. officials say special operations forces have captured a key militant in the 2012 Benghazi

attack on a U.S. consulate that left four Americans dead, CBS News national security

correspondent David Martin confirms.

A U.S. official identified the suspect as Mustafa al-Imam, Martin reports.

The commandos captured the man in Libya just before midnight local time on Sunday and are

transporting him back to the U.S., officials told The Associated Press.

The suspect is in the custody of the Department of Justice and is expected to arrive within

the next two days on a military plane, according to one of the officials.

The officials said the mission was approved by President Donald Trump and done in coordination

with Libya's internationally recognized government.

The officials, who weren't authorized to speak publicly to the matter and demanded

anonymity, would not say where exactly he was captured.

The Sept. 2012 assault killed Ambassador Chris Stevens, U.S. State Department computer expert

Sean Smith and CIA contractors Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods.

Had it not been for Trump in office, the victims of Benghazi would have had no chance justice

since Hillary would have swept the attack under the rug to protect herself and cover

her actions that led to this punishing attack.

"Stevens and Smith died in the burning diplomatic outpost despite efforts to rescue them.

Woods and Doherty died nearly eight hours later in a mortar attack on a nearby CIA complex,"

CBS added.

This is another step toward the damning answers that Hillary has been trying to hide from

as another of the terroristic killers was caught on the president's watch who has

made this investigation a priority.

"Earlier this month, another man accused in the attack, Abu Khattala, went on trial

in federal court in Washington.

Khattala has pleaded not guilty to the 18 charges against him, including the murder

of an internationally protected person, providing material support to terrorists and destroying

U.S. property while causing death, CBS News explained.

"The attack was the fodder of multiple congressional investigations to determine what went wrong

and whether the Obama administration misled the public on the details of the bloody assault."

"Initial accounts provided by administration officials, notably former U.S. Ambassador

to the United Nations Susan Rice, said the attack had grown out of a protest against

an anti-Muslim internet film.

Later, the administration said it was a planned terrorist attack."

"A two-year investigation by a House Benghazi committee focused heavily on Clinton's role

and whether security at the compounds and the response to the attack was sufficient.

It was the Benghazi probe that revealed Clinton used a private email server for government

work, prompting an FBI investigation that proved to be an albatross in her presidential

campaign."

This comes at the start of a new week for Hillary who had a particularly rough weekend

when her crimes stacking up against her, particularly after she was suspected in the death of another

victim in the ever-increasing body count covered in her fingerprints

Information hounds have their paws deep in the dirt as they dig up ghosts of Hillary

Clinton's past and search for any and all evidence linking her to the death of a prominent

figure in American history.

Truth seekers look for evidence that could lead to her to indictment and incarceration,

but those who seek are coming up with mixed results.

The hottest trending controversial conspiracy slithers back into relevancy in the wake of

JFK's classified files being released, even though numerous items were redacted.

This theory plots Hillary Clinton against JFK Jr. and suggests that she's directly,

or indirectly, responsible for the plane crash that left JFK Jr. and two others dead, thus

paving the way for Clinton to win an easy seat in the Senate and further her career.

Look back to 1999 when numerous New York residents fancied JFK Jr. the front-runner in the Senate

election taking place in the year 2000.

A young charismatic man like his father, JFK Jr. would've had an easy victory over Hillary

Clinton if he had run for Senate in 2000, but any possibility of him entering into the

election was halted mid-air with the crash of the aircraft he was in.

A midnight flight and an unfortunate demise of a budding personality who could've carried

on the legacy of his father had it not been for that harrowing flight that ended it all.

Many sources say JFK Jr. was not 100% set on running for Senate, but if he did, it would've

been an overwhelming victory.

Sources like Your News Wire point to Hillary Clinton as the reason JFK Jr's plane exploded

and crashed.

The website suggests that Hillary had no intention of returning to Arkansas and her only goal

was to win a seat in the New York Senate, no matter what it took.

The source allows readers to believe, without truly saying so, that Hillary Clinton was

responsible for the murder of JFK Jr.

Based on the details of the event, in which it's believed that JFK Jr. was flying the

plane in the night time and he had called the radio tower for something, then randomly

exploded, one has to wonder what caused the explosion.

The website then discusses the possible events that suggest the Clinton's covered this

up very quickly by preparing a Navy funeral service, even though JFK Jr. did not serve

in the Navy.

This all happened after a search located JFK Jr. and his passenger's bodies in the water.

Whether that death is proven to be connected to the Clintons or not, there's no denying

the part that Hillary played in Benghazi.

Now, one of the terrorists doing the killing just might provide clues, but at least will

be held accountable in a way that Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton would have never done.

COPILARIA LUI ICAR | THE CHILDHOOD OF ICARUS | Feature Film | CINEPUB - Duration: 1:33:37.

Mi-a plăcut mult conferinţa.

Sunt încă multe de făcut. Să mergem.

Accidentul mi-a schimbat viaţa.

Dar nu mă voi da bătut.

M-am înscris pentru testele dumneavoastră.

Foarte bine.

Veţi avea rezultatele în curând.

E tot ce vă pot spune.

Aveţi o faţă frumoasă.

Licia, Mathilde.

Haideţi!

Pe curând.

O să mâncăm la restaurant.

Eşti bine? A fost interesant?

O prostie.

Ai dreptate. Îmi pare rău.

Sună-mă.

Aici este sauna.

Doar pun brăţara...

şi se deschide!

Domnul Krauss. Este un membru al guvernului.

De ce a venit?

Pentru un tratament de reconfortare.

Ce?

Refacere.

Excelent!

- E compatibil? - Da.

Rezultatele sunt foarte bune.

- Dar mai sunt încă multe de făcut. - Câte are?

Unu este singur...

si merge neînsoţit.

Doi...

copii albi precum crinii, îmbrăcaţi în verde.

Trei...

cei care caută ceartă.

Patru,

creatorii.

Cinci,

uşa simbolurilor.

Şase,

plimbăreţii trufaşi.

Şapte,

crearea stelelor şi a universului.

Opt?

Patrulele de aprilie.

Nouă?

O lumină-n noapte?

Fiica mea are umor, când e vorba de bani.

Noi suntem prezentul.

Pentru cină, vreţi...

Vreţi ceva?

Nu voi mânca diseară.

Pe mâine atunci, Jonathan.

O luăm de la capăt.

O luăm de la capăt.

E fata.

Anna!

Sunt Alice.

Vino cu mine.

Unde?

Vino după mine.

Aici locuiesc.

Le numim greşit himere. De fapt, sunt reale.

Însă, la urma urmei,

tu şi tatăl tău faceţi acelaşi lucru?

Nu.

Ele sunt fericite.

De unde ştii?

Am învăţat să le ascult.

Uite.

Acolo.

Din nou.

Haide.

Te-a recunoscut.

Pot vorbi cu noi.

Cunosc calea.

Calea?

Cine v-a spus?

M-am interesat în legătură cu Anna.

Domnule Vogel,

Totul?

Încredere...

Sunteţi pregătit?

Licia!

Nu o lăsa pe jos. Ia-o în braţe. Atenţie!

Fii atent. Totul este în ordine.

Ce are?

Nimic serios. I se întâmplă des.

E normal.

Da,

e normal.

Noapte bună.

Rămâi!

Te rog.

Rămâi.

Păstrează-ţi energia pentru tratament.

Nu mai vreau.

Domnule Vogel.

Treziţi-vă.

Treziţi-vă!

Aţi întârziat.

E prima oară.

E un semn bun.

Profesorul vă aşteaptă.

Mai bine dormiţi.

Spune-mi ce simte.

Sunt eu.

Haide...

Răspunde, te implor.

Trebuie să te opreşti.

De ce?

Pentru că oamenii trebuie să moară.

Aici eraţi.

Pleacă!

Vii cu mine, Jonathan?

Soţia ta te aşteaptă.

Ai un foc?

Ce vroiai să schimbi?

Totul.

S-a terminat între noi.

Gata.

Spuneţi-mi exact ce simţiţi.

Aud zgomote în cap...

Tot timpul.

Nişte lucruri ciudate... Nu-mi amintesc... Eu...

Sunete.

Nu vreau să mă opresc, dar...

Corpul nu este pregătit.

Nu vă pierdeţi curajul.

Crede că regenerarea piciorului are anumite efecte fizice.

În special, ceva ce nu anticipasem.

Ce anume?

Este eliberată trauma provocată de pierderea piciorului.

Spune-mi,

când visezi, cum te vezi, de când ţi s-a amputat piciorul?

Este important, ca să-ţi revii.

Cum te vezi în aceste vise?

Respir sub apă.

Şi ai amândouă picioarele?

Nu ai nevoie de picioare sub apă.

Ce-i asta?

Nu e treaba ta.

Ce se întâmplă?

Spune-mi.

Nu se simte bine.

E doar o impresie.

- Dar nu eşti speriat? - Speriat? Draga mea,

aceasta este imaginea potenţialului vieţii. Trebuie să înţelegi.

Te rog...

Dă-i drumul. Te rog.

- E absurd.

... special.

Aşa e. Trebuie să facem ceva. Nu-l putem lăsa în starea asta.

- Ai adus tot? - Da.

- Să începem. - Benzodiazepină, clozapină, morfină.

Totul este în regulă, domnule Vogel.

Doar ceva neplăceri din cauza tratamentului.

Vă afectează simţurile, dar e ceva psihologic. Nu e nimic grav.

Trebuie să faceţi trei lucruri:

să vă odihniţi...

să vă odihniţi...

- Şi... - Să mă odihnesc.

Asta-i tot.

Are vreun simptom fizic?

Asta-i tot.

Jonathan?

Am nevoie de ajutorul tău.

Trebuie sa fii transferat. Am nevoie de acordul tău.

Poftim?

Ia.

Vom interpreta partitura. Până la sfârşit.

Împreună.

Şi ştiu foarte bine ce vorbesc.

Şi Alice ştie.

Ea a analizat ultimele tale teste.

- Alice... - Ea a sugerat chimioterapia.

Da.

Alice.

Dă-mi un medicament.

Dă-mi. D... Dă-mi...

Vă rog să-i aplaudaţi.

Fiica mea: Alice Karr.

Bine.

Alice? Credeam că este cu tine.

Verifică!

E în maşină!

- Nu se poate. Eu... - Ţi-am cerut...

să o supraveghezi.

Sună-i!

Repede.

Conduceţi mai departe!

Grăbiţi-vă!

Mda.

Ce dracu' aştepţi? Du-te s-o căutaţi!

Mişcă-te!

Jonathan!

Jonathan!

Eşti rănit?

Nu.

Repede!

Grăbeşte-te!

Aşteaptă.

Ce tot faci? Mai repede!

Nu a fost un accident.

Strânge-mă în braţe!

E-n ordine.

Trebuie să mergem.

Vino. Trebuie să mergem.

Să mergem.

Să mergem.

Crezi că tata îmi va uda plantele?

O să le udăm, draga mea.

Alice.

Alice.

Alice!

Alice!

How did Internet and Cable Companies Get Regional Monopolies in the United States? - Duration: 10:50.

>> ALEX: Hey guys, I'm here watching some South Park, let's get technical.

The cable provider that allows me to see this episode of South Park on my TV right now is

Comcast.

If, instead of wanting to watch South Park, I wanted to watch, say, BoJack Horseman, on

Netflix or Bo Burnham on YouTube, I'd need to use an internet connection provided to

me by Comcast.

Comcast is my only option for my cable provider or my ISP, and, if you live in America,

you probably don't many options either.

The Federal Communications Commission reports that 96% of Americans have 2 or fewer options

when it comes to cable broadband ISPs.

A matter of fact, people have even made maps on what your ISP likely is based on the state

you live in.

Not to mention, with all of the Net Neutrality stuff going on right now, it's got me thinking,

how did we even get here in the first place?

Today, let's answer How Internet and Cable Companies got Regional Monopolies in the United

States.

To find out, let's do some time traveling.

>> ALEX ON SET: In 1948, the first cable systems in the US were put into place in parts of

Arkansas, Oregon, and Pennsylvania, but cable didn't really take off until the 1970s and

80s.

Why'd it take so long for it to get popular?

2 reasons.

First, the FCC put a ton of restrictions on cable in its early years because og broadcast

networks felt threatened by cable companies.

me just sitting there.

AAH!!

Before cable, networks themselves would just send a signal to your TV, but, when cable

came along, networks viewed them as a middleman who stole their shows and then forced people

to pay for content they were already getting.

So, after a lot of complaining, the FCC eventually put in rules to restrict cable.

And a lot of them.

So the FCC won't let me be, let me be me so let me see.

And cable did see.

*OFF SCREEN* Wait what does that mean?

I don't know, I'm just trying to make a good transition.

In 1972, after the public voiced disapproval of all the cable regulations, the FCC started

to loosen those regulations.

This was the first reason cable took off in the 70s.

The other?

Well, it was actually HBO... but it wasn't their programming, it was their technology.

HBO was also founded in 1972, and they took advantage of the loosening of

FCC restrictions, specifically, the 1975 ruling that cable companies could use satellites

for their broadcasting.

This tech would work by sending a signal from a satellite to massive 30-foot dish-shaped

antennas across the country, which would then send the signals through the cables and to

your home.

HBO was the first to take advantage of this new technology when they broadcast the Muhammad

Ali vs Joe Frazier fight. The fight took place in Manila, but it was broadcast to the entire world.

It really was a Thrilla in Manila...

And not just because the title was literally Thrilla in Manila.

The fight was huge success, which meant HBO wanted to do more of that.

So naturally they sued FCC, which resulted in even more loosening of restrictions.

These 2 factors spurred the growth of cable.

In 1960s, cable only had around 850,000 US subscribers, but, at the end of the 1980s,

cable had 53,000,000 US subscribers.

To put that in perspective, that's a 62x increase, that's going from only the silver

play button to PewDiePie level.

The huge growth led to Congress passing the Cable Communications Act of 1984.

This is where our story begins.

Cable Communications Act of 19... you know, that way too long of a name.

Let's just call it the...

CCA.

The CCA did a lot of things, but, most importantly, it gave cities themselves the authority to

create exclusive partnerships between their city and cable companies.

Basically, cities would strike up deals with cable companies like this...

>> COMCAST: Heeeey there, beautiful San Francisco!

>> SAN FRANCISCO: Stop pandering.

>> COMCAST: Ok.

How about we make a little dealsy?

We're willing to wire your entire town.

That's right, every corner, every house gets cable.

It's huge selling point for your town, plus current residents will LOVE it.

>> SF: Ooh, I do like that.

But wait a sec, what's in it for you?

>> COMCAST: *mumbling* Eeeeh, you know, you'll give us a complete monopoly over the city

for, like the next 12-15 years.

Don't worry, this essential though, we need this time to properly build out the cable

lines, and make sure, you know, we're the ones doing it.

>> SF: Well obviously that plan seems great and not like it will blow up in our

face later.

We accept!

Good doing business with ya.

Cable companies would go around snatching up monopolies over cities, creating the birth

of the oligopoly we have today.

Unfortunately, when Congress realized the damage they did with the CCA, it was too late.

In 1992, Congress passed the Cable Television Consumer Protection and Competition Act, making

those sorta monopoly deals illegal, but, at that point, it was too late to fix the damage

or even change anything.

Why?

Let me tell ya about it!

The cable industry now had something called a natural monopoly.

What is that?

*OFF CAMERA* It's when you make a monopoly board out of only compostable parts.

Yea-- Wait, what?

No.

There are two types of costs that are relevant to our discussion: fixed costs and marginal

costs.

Fixed costs are costs that stays consistent, they don't change depending on how many

customers you have, and it's essential to have whatever you're spending your fixed

costs on, even if you only have 1 customer.

Among many other things, the biggest fixed cost in the cable industry is, well, the cables.

You gotta lay them down, no matter how many customers you get.

Then, on the other hand, we have marginal costs.

This is how much it costs hook up another person with your product.

This cost is not necessarily consistent, it can change depending on the scale of your

company.

For the cable industry, that cost is pretty small.

I mean, they have to send out a cable box and whatnot, but that's not crazy expensive.

A natural monopoly is when an industry has an extremely high fixed cost, but a much lower,

fairly consistent marginal cost.

Elaborating on what I previously said, it's crazy expensive to lay cables down and give

a city your internet and TV access, but it's pretty consistently cheap to send out cable

boxes and for the occasional technician to come to your home.

To really bring this explanation home, let's take a look at an example.

You live in the city totallylegitcityopolous, where, because of the laws previously mentioned,

you only 1 ISP: Time Warner Cable.

You want to change that, so you start a new cable company.

What do you have to do to actually sell internet?

Well, you first you have get a ton of permits.

It's tricky and long, but assuming you can do that, then comes the hard part: you have

to lay down cable.

You can't use the cable that's already there, those are Charter's Cables.

They laid 'em down, and they own 'em.

Unfortunately, as you might expect, laying down cable is very expensive.

You have a massive fixed cost.

I couldn't find one exact magical number on how much it does cost to lay down cable,

but I did find this chart from the US Department of Transportation, makes me think it's somewhere

between 21,000 and 52,000 dollars per mile, which is, oooh, lemme just say, you could

get a lot of comically large coffee cups for the money.

At this point, you have one of two options.

You could either realize you don't have enough money and call it quits, or somehow

get enough money together to lay down cables, and then, well, try to make a profit.

Most of the city already on Charter, which means you'd have to offer lower prices

then them just to get only around 10-20 percent of the population of the city on your plan,

according to Gizmodo.

Moreover, Charter would see that some customers are leaving, so they drop their

prices even lower than yours to get people to come back, and yes, that does provide a

temporary relief to consumers, you know, competition brings pricing that benefits buyers, but,

sooner or later, you're gonna run out of business because you have too few customers

paying too low a price. Charter's gonna going to go back to being a monopoly, prices

rise, and we're back to where we started.

In this scenario, your cable startup took a massive loss, and it's the reason why

no one or, at least, very few people, attempt to compete with existing cable companies.

No one wants to suffer to that outcome, and, thus, a natural monopoly is formed.

Heck, cable companies themselves aren't even willing to compete with each other.

John Oliver pointed this out in his segment on Net Neutrality a couple years ago when

he showed this clip of Comcast CEO Brian Roberts talking about the issue at the re/code code conference.

>> BRIAN ROBERTS: Both in video and in broadband, we don't compete with Time Warner.

You have to start with that very fundamental point.

They're in New York, we're in Philadelphia.

They're in LA, we're in San Francisco.

You can't buy a Comcast in New York, you can't buy a Time Warner in Philadelphia.

>> ALEX: Anyways, now that we've covered what a natural monopoly is, let's jump back to where we

left off: the Cable Television Consumer Protection and Competition Act of 1992.

So now, if you're the cable industry, and you're just hit with tighter regulation,

what do you do?

MERGE!

Merge like crazy.

Merge to your heart's content.

This Quartz article does a really good job of illustrating the mergers, but, long story

short, in 24 years, between 1993 and 2017, cable companies merged so much that what was

previously 40 cable companies merged into just THREE!

Charter, Comcast, and Cox.

So, where do we go from here?

Let's talk about Net Neutrality.

This is Ajit Pai.

He's the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, and recently, he voted to repeal

Net Neutrality.

>> AJIT PAI: The chair votes aye. The item is adopted with editorial privileges given as granted as requested.

For those unaware, Net Neutrality is the concept that ISPs must provide access to everything

on the internet regardless of where it comes from.

Essentially, ISPs can't play favourites when deciding what content to deliver to you.

In the same way the local water company can't say "Hey, using our water for toilets will

be an extra $9.99 a month," net neutrality blocks ISPs from saying "Hey, using our

internet for YouTube will be an extra $9.99 a month."

That's the brief explanation, click the i to see a longer Vi Hart video explaining

it more.

Ajit Pai believes that eliminating Net Neutrality, among other things, will encourage competition

and more choices for consumer.

But, we know that's not true, because we just saw how ISPs got and maintained these

monopolies.

Eliminating net neutrality isn't going to magically change that.

A matter of fact, the only reason net neutrality laws exist at all is because there is no competition.

If ISPs didn't have regional monopolies in the US, then competition and capitalism

would encourage ISPs to not throttle or block internet, because, if they did, you could

just switch to a competitor who didn't.

Luckily, just because the FCC rolled back net neutrality, it doesn't mean the fight

is over.

As the famous battleforthenet.com says, "Congress [can] stop this—by passing a "Resolution

of Disapproval" to overturn the FCC vote."

So if you're interested in telling Congress your thoughts, click the i to check out battleforthenet.com.

And maybe... one day... we can get Jack to legally change his name to LitFam.

*short pause* And save the free and open internet, that's important too.

I also wanna quickly note before I end that I recognize that this is kinda a United States-specific

problem, so, if you're international, let me know what cable companies and ISPs are

like in country in the comments down below.

I talked with some of my YouTube friends from other countries, and it's really interesting

to see how it all compares.

>> ETHAN: Mr. Pie in the Face has basically ascended to anime super villain at this point.

You're a partisan hack, dude!

>> AJIT PAI: That's just, like, your opinion man.

We good?

Thanks guys!
