Ok, progress report!
Who? me?
You know,
毎回このくだりをさ、適当にぐだぐだにやって、 every time I try and give one of these, it goes on and on
and then most of it gets cut anyway...
either that or you'll say "Don't worry, we'll cut it." and it'll get put in anyway...
How many months since we last got together?
A month and a half?
Yeah, 1.5 or 2 months about.
About 2 months, hey?
So we're back together to bring you another episode.
So the plan today, and I haven't told either of you about this yet by the way,
今日はですね、一応 our video today is
to commemorate our channel having reached the 100 subscriber mark!
Thank you very much!
So as of November 24, 2017,
actually we passed the 100 subscriber mark back in September.
So it's a bit late.
We reached 100 subscribers around the end of September,
and today we're going to celebrate!
Any comments?
Well,
I've been a bit sick lately,
so the mathematics videos have been stalled out as of late.
I apologize, but I hope to be able to resume filming soon.
There haven't been too many views to tell the truth, but I'm hoping more will come in future.
Yeah, math is, well...
There aren't too many people looking to take the EJU test these days.
And actually the EJU test for this year is already finished.
What month was it?
November.
Oh, so pretty recently.
It was held on the 10th.
But looking forward towards next year.
Yep! Those of you who are planning to take EJU next year can use the videos to study in the meantime.
Ok. Max?
Currently as we're filming,
it's right before the winter JLPT.
Probably by the time this video is uploaded,
もう終わったと思うんだけど、 everyone will have already finished.
Did you all try your best? How was the test?
It'd be cool, if our viewers could post their results
in the comment section.
Whether it's true or not,
三本塾のおかげでJLPT合格しましたと、 seeing a comment like "I passed thanks to Sambon Juku."
would be very gratifying.
At any rate, having started the channel back in May of this year,
we're about 7 months into this project.
How has the experience been thus far?
Reflections?
I feel like, for me personally, I've learned a lot just from doing the show, so I'm grateful.
Such as?
Well, like the video describing the use of the "か" question particle.
Before then I hadn't really thought about it to be honest,
やっぱり普通体と「か」の使い方は so I'm going to be careful
about how I use the casual verb form with "か" from now on.
A comment from a learner's point of view.
I'm still very much a learner.
But being a learner as you are,
だからこそ思い付く企画とかあるんじゃないですか? there's probably a lot of things you've noticed that you'd want to introduce to the views.
There are certainly, when I think about it.
Right?
That's why I think it's really valuable
to have you here on the show.
It's an honor.
So as for Takkie.
I thought you might forget about me.
There's something I'd really like to ask you.
Your videos for Sambon Juku
日本語じゃなくて数学の方のビデオをやってますけど、 are mostly concerning mathematics rather than Japanese learning,
but you are also teaching Japanese as your main line of work.
Is that right?
How's that been going for you lately?
By "that" you mean teaching Japanese?
Yeah, teaching Japanese.
It's very tough work.
Tough how?
In general, we're teaching with a textbook.
So as the teacher, you have to know the textbook backwards and forwards.
That's true. By the way what textbook are you using?
Now I'm using "Minna no Nihongo".
Just as I thought, "Minna no Nihongo"
The second book. The blue one.
"Minna no Nihongo" is a tough textbook to teach, isn't it?
Maybe.
I don't really want to criticize the materials we use.
If someone from the 3A Network were to see this,
I guess...
It's hard to use such a dry textbook...
See, he called it "dry".
It is rather dry. though, isn't it?
Speaking frankly.
Using such a standardized,
that the teacher has to work extra.
That's true.
To liven it up.
I think there is desire on the part of teachers
もっとわかりやすい絵が欲しいとかって to have better example sentences and better illustrations,
so in that sense...
It's tough for the teachers as well.
Teachers using "Minna no Nihongo" also struggle with it.
It is tough.
I do have to say that the class doesn't really get excited by it.
It's definitely a problem.
I mean it's a teachers' job to bring the subject to life, but...
It sounds like we're making excuses here,
but Japanese teachers are doing their best with what they're given.
Of course one's skill as a teacher and the content of what you are teaching
内容も大事なんだけど、 are also very important,
なんか、その、雰囲気作りっていうかね、 but there's also a sense in which "creating the right atmosphere", you might say, is also very important.
It's difficult to plan lessons that students don't tire of...
Especially at the university level, the classes are 90 minutes,
so being able to focus on a task for a solid 90 minutes is...
It is different overseas?
Actually sometimes the lessons in foreign countries are even longer.
Sometimes 2 hours, yeah.
But even
ちょっと5分とか10分休憩あっても、 with 10 minutes break in the middle,
でも同じ授業をさ、2時間とか3時間やってたり having a single class for 2 or 3 hours.
Where I'm at now, it's pretty much "teaching the textbook".
Though I'd like to get closer to
a point where I'm "teaching with the textbook" instead.
That's deep. "Teaching a textbook" vs "teaching with a textbook".
Sounds quotable.
Let's put that up in big letters, shall we?
It's an old saw really, not really anything deep.
We teachers are doing our best to make lessons interesting.
