Youtube daily report Apr 17 2018

hey what's up Stefanie the English coach here from EnglishFullTime.com

in this video we are going to talk about how to learn and remember more

vocabulary so you guys can start speaking more fluently and just feel

more comfortable with English now I have many methods to share with you guys but

what I want to say is that we all learn a little bit differently so there's not

one way that will work for everybody you really have to test and see what works

for you what you enjoy because when you enjoy the way that you're learning you

learn more and you learn faster okay let me give you a quick example of this my

husband loves studying languages he goes crazy he studies everything basically

French Italian Russian I can't even keep track of all the languages that he

studies and you know how he likes studying them he uses apps like duolingo

and mango languages he loves using these apps and you know you can find him at

any point of the day just sitting there with the app learning new vocabulary

learning new words and then when he meets people that speak these languages

he actually can talk with them but for me I don't like that method I cannot

just sit and play with an app it's not my learning style it does not work for

me and I'm just not interested in that kind of learning so I have other methods

that work for me but maybe that method will work for you so it's something to

consider if you're trying to learn more vocabulary okay before I tell you what

will work and what has worked for me and what is amazing I want to tell you what

doesn't work okay or at least what doesn't work for me

cramming never works you guys should know this right we're all adults here or

most of us are all adults we've all been through traditional education systems

and we all know what happens when you cram maybe you're able to pass the test

but then you don't remember anything the next day this happened to me all the

time when I was in high school because in my history classes every Friday we

would have a vocabulary exam we had to learn 10 new words each week and then

take a test on those words and I never studied I was super lazy when it came to

learning new vocabulary because I hated this learning method I was I was just so

against it I hated it so basically what I would end up doing is right before the

test when our teacher would give us ten extra minutes to prepare I would just

read through all the words really quickly I would memorize the definition

and I think you know because my brain was in survival mode like you have to

pass this test then I was able to memorize all the definitions

word-for-word it was incredible and then you know we would do the test I would

get ten out of ten right every single time I had the words down the

definitions everything memorized 100% but guess what the following week I

never remembered what those words were okay so cramming like that does not work

it's not a good method you want consistent exposure to English over a

long period of time that is literally the best method okay so now I want to

tell you guys about a youtube video that I saw years ago that was phenomenal and

it's about the way that our brain works if I can find it I'll link it in the

description for you guys to watch because it's truly really incredible so

first in this video the narrator shows you a list of words ten words and says

okay try to see how many of these words you can memorize and then after you see

the list you have to write down as many as you can remember and I was able to

write down like four maybe five I could not remember all the words and then the

narrator told a story using those words and showed you images of the words as he

was telling the story and then at the end of it he was like okay now how many

do you remember and I was able to remember every single word and the

reason is because that word was placed in a story there was context there was

an image there was something for me to relate to and identify with so that is a

big key for you and for me when we're learning languages and when you guys are

trying to improve your English that the best way to really learn new vocabulary

is one in context okay in a story because we remember stories and then

using imagery as much as possible so for me this is why when I

learn a new word in Spanish or something and I'm like oh man I keep forgetting

what this word is I need to see it I need a visual

I literally just go to Google Images I typed the word and then I see all these

pictures and this is a fantastic way to learn new vocabulary you don't have to

write it down and sit there memorizing it day after day trying to get that

definition in your mind because words and definitions are all abstract okay

they're taking something concrete they're making it abstract and then

they're you're trying to memorize that in your mind and it's just not as

efficient so trust me on this try it out next time you hear a word when you're

like oh my gosh what does that mean or I don't understand it go look it up on

Google Images okay even if it's a feeling or a word that is abstract like

disappointed for example let's pretend you learn this word for the first time

there's not really an image like ball you can see a ball right you can't see

disappointed but you can because Google Images is going to show you pictures of

people who are disappointed and you're gonna recognize the expression on their

face because that's an expression we make in any language okay so that's just

a quick example of how you can use imagery and use the fact that your brain

remembers things better when it sees images to learn new vocabulary and

remember it in English okay the next thing I want to talk to you guys about

is social media because as you guys know it's already been proven that social

media is highly addictive Facebook Instagram etc so what we can do is we

can actually use this to our advantage all of your Facebook all of your

Instagram account everything it should be in English but not just the account

itself you know where it says settings and friend requests and all this stuff

not just that okay but all of the content that you're seeing inside of

Facebook all of the content that you're seeing inside of Instagram all of that

should be in English so if you focus on a deeper motivation that you have not

just English but something that you're really passionate about this could be

related to your career related to your hobbies whatever it is but some

that you love just follow pages and content related to that in English and

because Facebook and Instagram is already so addictive in and of itself

you're gonna be scrolling through your newsfeed for at least five minutes every

day you're gonna be getting new words in English and it's just a really easy way

to build your vocabulary so I'm gonna give you two examples of pages that I

love following on Instagram all in English and if you guys follow pages

like this you're gonna be learning new sentences and new words every single day

so one type of page that I love following on Instagram is quotes like

uplifting inspirational motivational quotes you can find pages where they

post quotes every single day multiple times a day and if you're following 20

pages like this first of all you're gonna be feeling a lot more positive I

think on a daily basis and you're gonna feel a lot more encouraged with whatever

goals you're trying to achieve but you're also gonna learn new sentences

new words new ways of structuring phrases etc okay and to find these pages

just use the hashtag search function and go to hashtags and then type in

motivational quotes or inspirational quotes and you'll start finding a bunch

of pages that publish this kind of content the other kind of page that I

love following on Instagram is pages about memes

okay memes and jokes and funny things they make me laugh every single time and

this is a really great way also to stay up to date on slang or to learn slang if

you're following pages on Instagram that are nothing but memes your vocabulary is

gonna increase without a doubt and your slang you're gonna start

learning a lot more slang too and you're gonna laugh more because they're so

funny okay so the next thing I want to say about this is that it takes time for

the brain to process new information okay so you're not going to be able to

learn hundreds of words every single day and you shouldn't even try because even

if you learn the definition of a word you have to hear that word in context

many many many many times before you really truly understand

that word and can use it on autopilot so a lot of times I see

students that hear a word for the first time and they start trying to use it but

they're misusing it they're using it out of context because they don't really

understand how to use it so sometimes I think it's better to just listen a lot

more first and analyze how words are used and then once you feel like okay

yeah I totally understand how this word should be used then you can incorporate

it into your vocabulary and start using it now with all of that said there are

times where you're gonna have to memorize a lot of words in a short

amount of time and this happened to me when I had first come to Argentina it

was my first year in the country and I decided that I wanted to start working

as an independent beauty consultant and I was going to start selling and

marketing different beauty products well it wasn't until that point when I

realized oh my gosh I don't know how to say these basic words in Spanish that

are related to makeup and you know doing your makeup like how do you say lipstick

how do you say eyeliner how do you say blush how do you say eyeshadow these are

all words that are related to makeup and doing your makeup and I didn't know any

of them so what did I do I had to go look up all of this

information and start memorizing like crazy and I remember that I printed a

bunch of material I watched youtube videos in Spanish I

was taking notes about how the girls were describing their makeup and

describing how they were applying it I was taking notes and then I would

practice I would do presentations in front of the mirror I would make people

listen to me and I was basically like hey this is my job now I have to know

these words I can't not know these words so that was really frustrating because

even though I was studying every day I kept forgetting words and it felt like I

was making no progress but you know what it took me about one week maybe or two

weeks or a few days I don't remember but it was not actually that long it's just

like when you're studying those new words that's when it feels like it's

taking forever but then you look back and you're like hey you know it didn't

that long so that method of writing words down studying their definitions

looking them up etc and trying to cram as much into your brain in as little

time as possible again it can work but it's not a good long-term strategy

that's like if you're desperate and you're like okay I need a certain set of

vocabulary terms ASAP that I don't know then of course that will work okay and

my last tip here on how to learn and remember more vocabulary is to just

start being more observant right we have active vocabulary and passive vocabulary

what happens with a lot of you guys is you understand everything that I say so

my vocabulary is in your passive vocabulary because you understand it but

then when you want to speak a lot of times you don't have the actual words

you don't have the fluency that's because you don't have my vocabulary

built into your active vocabulary okay you have just a base vocabulary of

whatever you're working with right now and maybe you've been incorporating a

few extra words a week but if you really want to start improving faster you have

to really listen to what I say and ask yourself what words is she saying that I

don't use ask yourself that question and you'll start realizing oh she always

says this phrase or she always says these words and I don't use them how

does she use them and then once you start making those observations you'll

be able to incorporate it into your speech and of course start having a

bigger vocabulary and with that said the idea here is not to have a huge

vocabulary it's just to be able to express yourself well you guys might

notice that I don't use a ton of big words because I don't care about using

big words I want people to understand me and I want to communicate what I'm

thinking and what I'm feeling and in order to do that you don't need a huge

amount of words okay you just need basic words okay though you can do this even

without having an extensive vocabulary just remember that you should be

focusing on chunks okay not necessary individual vocabulary words but chunks

and phrases focus on one type of English because if you're trying to learn

British English Irish English and American English or different types of

American English and British English or whatever all at the same time you're

going to drive yourself crazy it's better to just focus on one area so you

can master that vocabulary and then move on so for example British English a lot

of their vocabulary that's in my passive vocabulary I understand it but I don't

use it okay so for you you can understand American English but speak

British English or you can understand British English but speak American

English or whatever you feel more comfortable with okay guys so hopefully

those tips were helpful please let us know in the comments what tips you'd

like to add based on your personal experience what works for you what

learning styles you enjoy to improve your vocabulary we look forward to

reading what you have to say and of course don't forget to check the

description because I leave lots of links and lots of other information in

the description for those of you who always ask no I don't offer private

classes I'm so sorry but I do run several online programs that you might

be interested in so again check the links in the description and you'll

learn more about them there that's it you guys and I'll see you in another

video bye

Liverpool FC have 'zero' chance of signing Jurgen Klopp 's £60m transfer target ● News Now ● #LFC - Duration: 1:53.

Roma president James Pallotta has all but ended Liverpool's chances of signing Alisson

this summer but insisting there's 'zero' chance of him leaving the Serie A giants.

The Reds have been tracking the Brazilian stopper this season and view him as the perfect

replacement for Simon Mignolet, who has lost his number one spot this term.

The 25-year-old has emerged as one of the most promising goalkeepers in Europe and is

Brazil's first choice ahead of Manchester City stopper Ederson.

Alisson will face Liverpool in the semi-finals of the Champions League but Pallotta says

he will not be moving to Anfield.

'We have no intention of selling him,' Pallotta told Sky Sport Italia.

'I mean zero at all.

I'm sure some people will probably come in with some bids, but I don't have any

interest in selling him, he's a great goalkeeper.

'When we got him, I thought the same thing and as far as I'm concerned, I mean no.'

Liverpool are all but guaranteed a place in the top four this season and will switch their

attention to the Champions League.

An astonishing 5-1 aggreagate win against Manchester City set-up Liverpool's last

four clash with Roma.

Roma travel to face Liverpool at Anfield in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final

on April 24, before returning to Italy for the second leg on May 2.

Media Ownership: Crash Course Media Literacy #8 - Duration: 12:00.

Hey, check it out. I just got this new phone.

Well, kind of – I'm renting it for a couple bucks a month.

But really that's part of a bundle – you know, I've got my cell phone, my internet, my cable.

All one bill, which is pretty convenient.

The phone is made by another company of course, but they have this exclusive deal with the bundle people.

And the bundle people have thought a deal with the streaming service people, so now I can stream movies all the time.

And the streaming service I use has a deal with my favorite TV channel, so I can watch all my shows.

And the TV people just bought my favorite comic book franchise, so soon I'll be swimming in new superhero movies.

And the comic book people will be raking in the cash.

Kind of, uh, complicated, no?

So many deals and bundles and acquisitions to watch for.

It makes you wonder, who runs all this stuff?

Who owns the media?

Sure, maybe you've been keeping track of who owns your favorite media franchises like

Star Wars (that's Disney) or Marvel (uh, also Disney) or Harry Potter (Warner Brothers, but also NBC).

That way you can judge who's going to do a great job with your favorite storylines or totally ruin them with the worst casting ever oh my god why.

The media at large, everything from newspapers you read to the apps on your phone, are part of a big web of deals and partnerships and mergers.

A very tangled, kind of incestuous, web.

Sometimes these complex relationships work out well for the consumer.

But sometimes this tangled web traps the consumer like a juicy little fly just waiting to be eaten by the big bad spider.

That's why today we're talking all about media ownership –

we're going to figure out how ownership impacts your everyday lives AND we're gonna talk about the history of media ownership AND...no, that's it for today.

But that's plenty.

[Theme Music]

Ready for your head to spin a bit? So. Who really owns "the media"?

If you look at things from the end of 2017, the media ownership landscape looks like this:

Walt Disney Company owns ABC and the Disney Channel of course.

Plus EPSN, Miramax and Pixar, Marvel Entertainment and Publishing, Buena Vista Records, and over 270 radio stations.

Plus their theme parks and tons of other related companies.

Comcast Corporation owns NBCUniversal – that means CNBC, MSNBC, too – plus channels like Telemundo, USA Network, Bravo and more.

Plus Hulu and and the Universal Studios theme parks.

They even own the Philadelphia 76ers and the Philadelphia Flyers.

News Corp. owns FOX – including Fox News and FX.

They also own the Wall Street Journal, the Daily News and the New York Post, HarperCollins, and 20th Century Fox.

Hearst Corporation owns 20 U.S. magazines like Cosmopolitan and Esquire, plus 31 television stations.

Viacom owns MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and BET among its 160 cable channels, plus Paramount Pictures.

CBS Corporation owns all the CBS-named things, 29 TV channels and 130 radio stations, plus three book publishers.

And this is all just the tip of the iceberg.

I guarantee that this ownership web is already obsolete as new deals have gone through.

In fact, as we were shooting this episode, Comcast, Disney, and Fox had all been discussing a possible merger.

But don't worry, we prepared for that:

There was a big merger!

There wasn't a big merger!

There was something like a merger, but it was more complicated than we predicted!

But all this talk of mergers and ownership begs the question: who cares?

You do. Or, rather, you will. After you hear the story of AT&T.

The year is 1877 and Alexander Graham Bell and his father in law start the Bell Telephone Company.

Over time, Bell becomes the dominant telephone provider and is the first to build a nationwide long-distance telephone network.

That's when they're renamed: the American Telephone and Telegraph Company.

For almost 100 years, AT&T owns every part of the telephone system – from the wires and lines to the actual phones.

Yes, literally.

Until the mid-1980s, if you had an AT&T phone, you had to rent it from the company.

Kind of like you rent a modem for your internet now.

In the early 1900's AT&T established themselves as a walled garden.

That meant it was a closed system that was not interoperable with other systems or companies.

In fact, they refused to let rival companies work with them – they'd just buy them out instead.

In 1915, for instance, they bought Western Electric, one of the providers of their phone equipment.

Once they owned them, they made it so that only official Western Electric equipment could connect to the AT&T network..

Jump ahead to 1934.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt establishes the Federal Communications Commission.

The FCC is meant to implement a national radio and wire service in the U.S.

But the FCC also has the authority to examine AT&T's business.

The question was whether AT&T's control over every part of the phone system, or vertical integration, was in violation of the law.

But the FCC approves of AT&T's business – and the company is free to dominate the market for decades, becoming bigger, and bigger.

Eventually, though, AT&T becomes too big. Like way too big.

And the anti-trust lawsuits start.

Anti-trust laws are what exist to try and prevent monopolies – when a single company dominates an entire market or industry.

Monopolies are bad in a lot of ways.

A company with a monopoly can overcharge customers or under deliver services because there's simply no competition.

Preventing monopolies, or if you have to, breaking them up, protects consumers and encourages competition.

And by the 1980s, more than a century after the founding of the Bell company, those anti-monopoly efforts finally start to make a difference.

In 1982 AT&T starts letting people buy their own phones, a good first step.

But in 1984, the monopoly really breaks up, and the company separates into 7 different, smaller companies.

At the time, some people thought the break up of the AT&T monopoly was bad – it seemed so convenient to get all your phone maintenance in one place.

When it did break up, though, we got cool new inventions like answering machines, three-way calling, and caller ID – all thanks to an outbreak of competition.

Trust me, those things were really cool back then.

Today, companies try to dominate markets through new versions of vertical integration.

Think: do you have one of those bundles?

You might get your TV service, internet, and cell phone service from the same company.

These companies own the world's fiber optic cables, where the internet flows.

In fact, where the last 100 years of anti-trust media has largely been about phones, these days it has way more to do with the internet.

But that's where it gets a bit dicey.

Let's head into the Thought Bubble:

In a world with net neutrality, a corporate stronghold on the internet isn't too bad.

You pay for internet access and you use it pretty much however you want.

The net is neutrally accessible from different internet service providers, or ISPs.

If your ISP stinks or is too slow, you can often pay for a different service if there are options in your area.

But the ISPs believe that, since they're delivering you a service, they should determine how it's delivered.

They'd like to create tiered services, where if you pay more you get faster internet.

Basically, they want to use their vertical integration to create more monopolies.

Imagine the internet is a road and the content you want is a car.

ISPs would like to create a slow lane and a fast lane.

Or maybe a slow, medium, and fast lane.

Depending on what you want or can afford, you'd pay for that speed.

If ISPs could decide to create a slow lane and a fast lane, you can see how they could abuse that power pretty quickly.

We wouldn't get a fast lane and a faster lane.

We'd get a "so slow you want to smash your computer on the ground" lane and a "probably the speeds you have now but twice as expensive" lane.

As we know, internet access is crucial to thriving in the digital age, and hiking up prices would box some people out entirely.

Or, to put it more graphically, some people would be in the lifeboats and some people would be Jack and Rose, floating on a door in the middle of the ocean.

Until Jack freezes to death even though he TOTALLY could have fit on the door.

Thanks, Thought Bubble. I guess.

There are more consequences to net neutrality than consumer pricing.

Without net neutrality, ISPs have the power to cut off or speed up certain content – like, say, their business partners or their sister companies.

Certain cars wouldn't even be allowed in the slow lane – you'd have to pay extra.

So if you have Comcast as your ISP, your Comcast, NBC and Universal content might be fast but other content might be slow.

Comcast owns Hulu, and Netflix is a competitor of Hulu, so who knows, maybe they'd slow down your service to Netflix – the horror!

In some countries without net neutrality, ISPs have already created walled gardens like this.

You pay a base fee for internet service and then pay additional fees for a "Social media" package to access your apps or a "news package" to get your news.

It's not pretty.

You can see why it's so important to understand how media companies are all connected.

When they come together to form monopolies, they can have a huge impact on how a society communicates.

We know that media companies like to band together through mergers and acquisitions.

Sometimes this forms healthy competition and sometimes, like we said, it creates a monopoly.

But telecommunications and media have been regulated and studied for some time.

You know what also like to band together through mergers and acquisitions, sometimes for competition and sometimes to form monopolies?

Tech companies like Google, Facebook and Amazon.

These monster corporations have their hands on a ton of different projects.

Alphabet is Google's parent company.

Google isn't just a search engine; it's also an advertising platform.

Alphabet owns YouTube and over 200 other companies.

Plus they make products like Android phones and Gmail and self-driving cars.

And through search and Google News they've become a major distributor of media.

Amazon, in addition to being a dominant e-commerce platform, provides the internet infrastructure for tons of top companies.

It also creates its own TV and movie programming through Prime and owns The Washington Post.

Similarly, Facebook owns over 50 companies like Instagram and Whatsapp.

It recently partnered with news outlets to help with media distribution through its Journalism Project and its Instant Articles product.

They're even dipping their toes in creating original video programming.

Plus, 45% of US adults get their news from Facebook. Forty. Five. Percent.

And yet they don't call themselves a media company.

What's the big deal?

Well: currently, Tech companies aren't regulated the same way that media companies are.

Remember the FCC?

They regulate media companies not only to break up monopolies – they also set rules for what kind of content is allowed on TV, radio, and phones.

Different rules for different technologies.

This is why some songs have "radio edits" and why you have to bleep out the live TV when the Thanksgiving Parade hosts get too tipsy.

But the FCC doesn't currently have the same authority over companies like Facebook or Google –

which means there is tons and tons of debate over whether they should.

Media ownership can be problematic enough.

When one company dominates the means of production and creation on one product, consumers often get a lesser product.

Without competition, innovation stagnates.

And when companies have too much control, they can wreak havoc on our communication and culture.

When tech companies that are also media companies don't act like it, they shirk the accountability that other media organizations have.

The accountability that we, as consumers rely on.

Anti-trust regulations have their drawbacks.

People who prefer less government intervention don't like them.

The Monopoly man certainly doesn't like them.

But they're often in the public's best interest to prevent exploitation and encourage creativity.

To be a media literate citizen, it's crucial to keep an eye on how these businesses combine, split up, and interact.

Their relationships with each other affect our relationships with media.

Today we covered how huge corporations and their regulations impact our media environment – the macro stuff.

Next time on Crash Course: Media Literacy, we're going micro.

We'll take a look at how government policies impact how you, the consumer, absorb and create media.

Until then, I'm Jay Smooth. See you next time!

Farewell Kepler. Welcome TESS - Duration: 10:02.

We're now entering the final days for NASA's Kepler Space Telescope.

It's running out of fuel and already crippled by the loss of its reaction wheels.

In just a few months NASA will shut it down for good.

That is sad, but don't worry, NASA's next planet hunting spacecraft, the Transiting

Exoplanet Survey Telescope is on the launchpad and ready to fly to space to take over where

Kepler left off.

Finding Earth-sized worlds in the Milky Way.

It's hard to believe that we've only known about planets orbiting other stars for just

over 20 years now.

The first extrasolar planet found was the hot jupiter 51 Pegasi B, which was discovered

in 1995 by a team of Swiss astronomers.

They found this world using the radial velocity method, where the gravity of the planet pulls

its star back and forth, changing the wavelength of the light we see ever so slightly.

This technique has been refined and used discover many more planets orbiting many more stars.

But another technique has been even more successful: the transit technique.

This is where the light from the star is carefully measured over time, watching for any dip in

brightness as a planet passes in front.

At the time that I'm recording this video in April, 2018, there are 3,708 confirmed

planets with several thousand more candidates that need additional confirmation.

Planets are everywhere, in all shapes and sizes.

From the familiar gas giants, rocky worlds and ice giants we have in the Solar System,

to the unusual hot jupiters and super earths.

Astronomers have even found comets in other solar systems, planets like Saturn but with

ring systems that dwarf our neighbouring planet.

The hunt is even on for exomoons.

Moons orbiting planets orbiting other stars.

NASA's Kepler Space Telescope was the most productive planet hunting instrument ever

built.

Of those 3,708 planets discovered so far, Kepler turned up 2,342 worlds.

Kepler was launched back in March 2009, and began operations on May 12, 2009.

It used its 1.4 meter primary mirror to observe a 12-degree region of the sky.

Just for comparison, the Moon takes up about half a degree.

So a region containing hundreds of times the size of the Moon.

Kepler was placed into an Earth-trailing orbit around the Sun, with a period of 372.5 days.

With a longer year, the telescope slowly drifts behind the Earth by about 25 million km per

year.

As I mentioned earlier, Kepler was designed to use the transit technique, searching for

planets passing in front of their stars in this very specific region of the sky.

While previous exoplanet surveys had only found the more massive planets, Kepler was

sensitive enough to see worlds with half the mass of Earth orbiting other stars.

And everything was going great until July 14, 2012 when one of the spacecraft's four

reaction wheels failed.

These are gyroscopes that allow the spacecraft to change its orientation without propellant.

No problem, Kepler was designed to only need three.

Then a second wheel failed on May 11, 2013, bringing an end to its main mission.

What the Kepler engineers came up with is one of the most ingenious spacecraft rescues

in the history of spaceflight.

They realized that they could use light pressure from the Sun to perfectly stabilize the telescope

and keep it pointed at a region of the sky.

This allowed Kepler to keep working, observing even larger portions of the sky, but its orbit

around the Sun would only let it watch one region for a shorter period of time.

Instead of scanning Sun-like stars, Kepler focused its attention on red dwarf stars,

which can have Earth sized worlds orbiting them every few days.

This was known as the K2 era, and during this time it turned up an additional 307 confirmed,

and 480 unconfirmed planets.

But Kepler is running out of time now.

About a month ago NASA announced that Kepler's almost out of fuel.

This fuel is important because one important maneuver it needs to make is to point itself

back and Earth and upload all the data it's been gathering.

NASA figures that's just a few months away now, and when it happens, they'll instruct

the telescope to point at Earth for one last time, transmit its final data, and then shut

down forever.

I know this is super sad, and you should definitely shed a tear for Kepler when it does go silent.

But you won't have to wait long for an exciting new spacecraft to take its place: The Transiting

Exoplanet Survey Telescope.

And I'll tell you all about it in a moment, but first I'd like to thank:

George Barr POV_Dave

Orlando Gonzalez Neil Upfalow

Dirk Hoenes Christian Fattarsi

Andrew Poelstra George Lancaster

And the rest of our 808 patrons for their generous support.

If you love what we're doing and want to get in on the action, head over to patreon.com/universetoday.

If all goes well, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will blast off from Cape Canaveral any day

now.

It's carrying NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Telescope, or TESS, the sequel to Kepler,

taking the search for exoplanets to the next level.

The TESS mission has been around in some form since 2006 when it was originally conceived

as a privately funded mission by Google, the Kavli Foundation and MIT.

Over the years, it was proposed to NASA, and in 2013, it was accepted as one of NASA's

Explorer Missions.

These are missions with a budget of $200 million or less.

WISE and WMAP are other examples of Explorer Missions.

But there are a bunch of differences between Kepler and TESS.

Remember when I said that Kepler was observing a 12 x 12 - degree region of the sky?

TESS will be surveying the entire sky, an area 400 times larger than what Kepler observed.

It has a set of 4 separate identical telescopes with CCD cameras, each of which are 16.8 megapixels.

They're arrayed to give TESS a 24-degree square view of the sky.

TESS will break up the sky into 26 different sectors and study the region for at least

27 days, switching from bright star to bright star every two minutes.

While Kepler was doing a deep dive into one specific region of the sky, TESS is going

to be observing the 500,000 brightest stars in the sky, which are 30 to 100 times brighter

than the kinds of stars Kepler was looking at.

Many of which will be stars like our own Sun.

It'll be capable of surveying the entire sky over the course of two years, which is

an area 400 times larger than Kepler observed.

And astronomers are expecting that the mission will turn up thousands of extrasolar planets,

500 of which will be Earth-sized or super-Earth-sized.

By performing this wide survey of the sky with bright stars, TESS will be finding the

close extrasolar planets.

If a bright star has planets passing in front of it from our perspective, TESS will find

it.

It will create the definitive catalog of nearby planets.

Since these worlds are much brighter in the sky, it'll be easier for the world's ground

and space-based observatories to do follow up observations.

Astronomers will be able to measure the size, mass, density and even the atmospheres of

extrasolar worlds.

Just wait until James Webb gets its detectors on some of these worlds.

In addition to its primary job of finding planets, NASA has invited Guest Investigators

to use the spacecraft for other science research, such as finding quasars, tracking stellar

rotation, and observing the variations of dwarf stars.

Anything that has a change in brightness will a great target for TESS.

One interesting feature of the TESS mission will be its orbit, taking it on a path that

no other mission has ever used.

It's called a "P/2 lunar-resonant" orbit, and takes the spacecraft on an elliptical

trajectory that takes half as long as the Moon to orbits the Earth - 13.7 days.

At its closest point to Earth, it'll be 35,785 km above the surface and take three

hours to transmit all its data to ground stations.

Then it'll fly out to the highest point, at an altitude of 373,300 km, out of the hazards

of the Van Allen Belts.

By the time the TESS mission wraps up, we're going to know a lot about the extrasolar planets

in our nearby neighborhood.

Well, a lot about the planets that perfectly line up with their stars from our perspective.

And sadly, this is only a couple of percent of the star systems out there.

We're going to need other techniques to find the rest, which I'm sure we'll be

covering in future episodes.

ANDROID AUTO MIRROR PLUS SETTINGS - Duration: 4:21.

Hello

In this video I am going to show the configuration of AAMirror Plus so that it works in the following way

A warning! ROOT is required to fully AA Mirror Plus control for touch and full screen

IMPORTANT

You should have "adroid auto" as source.

So third-party apps can be heard

I open the AAMirror Plus app

as you can see

The lock, of course, it does not remove (fingerprint), but you can enter an alternative pin code. I do it this way

access the semitransparent panel of the applications

create apps shortcuts

I open the Chrome App to use the keyboard and see the full screen

I go to my website where you can download the AAMirror Plus App

As you see, it works perfectly

Another interesting application to watch TV channels around the world

You should have "Android Auto" as a sound source

You can see that it works well, even if you have the phone in vertical

it's thanks to the settings in the AAMirror Plus app

And that I show you next

If I press the OEM button on the right side of the Android Auto you see in that menu all custom apps

For third-party app to work, we must have installed

Android Auto 2.9 and Google Play Services 12.2.21 or lower

in the higher versions Google blocked all 3rd party apps

VERY IMPORTANT

You need root for Titanium Backup

you can disable automatic updates for Google play services in Menu/Market Update manager

Disable automatic updates for Google play services in Menu/Market works

ROOT is required to fully AA Mirror Plus control for touch and full screen

These are my settings

For the resolutionto be full screen, you must enable Adjust Ratio

Ability to use the side panel, customizable panels that can be displayed permanently and create shortcuts

Hope this is useful. Like if you enjoyed it

Trick and Treat - Kagamine Rin & Len (Subtitles cc) Vocaloid Live Concert - Duration: 3:32.

Deep, deep within the fog, a bewitching voice echoes

Come, come, until you're deeper inside this forest

Hurry, hurry, you'll only get closer if you're quick

Come, come, see, it's fun Let the games begin

The cinnamon stick is a magic wand

With just one swing the syrup will multiply

You'll forget bitterness in this sweet dream

Guarded by a canopy

You fall asleep

It's okay to induldge in these illusion's hypnotism

If you remove the blindfold the fun things will disappear

Watch your step! I'll take you by the hand

So, right away Entrust yourself to me

For some time the blade of doubt has been fading in and out

There isn't such thing as The indulgence in love

Through a slit in the blindfold you peeped

And saw the shadows cast by the lantern

Suddenly, your hair stands on end

My my, what a bad child! You're already awake?

If the blindfold came off, then shall I blind you?

Come now, smile! Let's see that cute face

Slip back into your skin

and go back to the show

"...Hey, please?"

Why are you looking at me like that? Your body is trembling

Shall I bring you some warm milk?

Now now, come inside! It's very warm in here

Your pocket's contents are enough of a reward

Please, hurry hurry

Hey look, right away

Abandon the notion of having a choice

Go along with this make-believe and slurp the sweet nectar

Please, hand it over! Look, right now

Please

Top 10 Side Hustles You Can Start Right Now(2018) - Duration: 9:35.

hi welcome to my channel my name is Kat and I usually do vlogs about traveling

or Spanish or my experiences in Spain but this video it's gonna be a little

different because I get so many people that tell me they would love to travel

but it's so expensive so in this video I'm gonna share with you ten jobs

ten side hustles actually that you can start right now with zero money that can

help you save for your next trip to wherever and you want to go most of

these jobs you've probably never heard of before so I am really excited to

share with you some of these jobs okay let's get on with the video

okay number one is renting out in your extra space on airbnb okay I'm

just kidding number one is relode

relode is such a great platform it's like speed dating but for jobs what you have

to do essentially is hook up an employer with an applicant and when that

applicant gets hired you get paid the lowest high reward I've seen was about

1300 and the highest I saw was twenty thousand dollars so if you can help just

two people a month get hired you could be making thousands of dollars a month

with relode okay what is the catch why isn't everybody doing this so

pretty much for Relode is not looking for applicants to work on a call center

or McDonald's they're looking for specific applicants with lots of

experience and very specialized careers in the healthcare industry so it's not

as easy as just finding your unemployed friend in getting them a job at Hardee's

it's very specialized with people that are have a lot of experience so if you

are around people in the medical field this could be a really good opportunity

for you to find people that maybe want to change their job okay number two is

peio pleio is a job where you're just gonna be calling elderly people to

remind them to take their medication they are looking for somebody that is

gonna be able to work about 15 hours a week all you need is a landline good

internet and a computer they require you to be 18 years old an American citizen

and you have to do a background check you will pass the background check as

long as you don't have any violent or fraud on your record and this job pays

$14 to 16 dollars an hour so it's a really good

hustle in your free time okay number three is vayable vayable pays you

literally to walk around your city and show people your city you're pretty much

like a walking tour guide and it's great because you set your own rates how much

you're gonna work when you want to work who you want to take it's great I've

used this platform to show people around Madrid and in Taiwan and I find it

really great I have a tour for tapas and wine and I literally just take some

tourists to my favorite tapa and wine bar and they pay me so it's a really

really great platform I downside to this is if you live in a smaller city you're

gonna have to commute to a bigger city also you're not really in control of

this side hustle because it's just when people want to book you is when you work

so this is not a side hustle that's very consistent but it definitely pays well

you can make from 40 an hour to a hundred dollars an hour to even more

depending on your services and how many hours you want to work my fourth job is

actually very similar to vayable it's called showaround it's a pretty much

exact same idea of you're showing tourists around your city if you have no

idea what to do in your city is just type in things to do in your city and

then find all the monuments and things like that and then find the history and

you can just regurgitate the history to the tourists and they are gonna love you

and think you are a history nerd when you really you just googled it and this

is also a really great way just to learn more about your city okay number five is

Rodie Rodie is a way you can turn your daily commute in your car into cash this

service works on delivering pretty much anything to anyone if you need to

deliver something from point A to point you are going to point B on the way you

can pick up this delivery and go somewhere this is great for people that

don't want to be driving people around you don't even like people like uber you

have to you know be kind and talk to people sometimes with this you're just

delivering physical things and you don't have to deal with people as much okay my

sixth job is Amazon flex Amazon flex is literally so great I wish I was still in

the US so I could do this you are delivering Amazon packages to their

customers so all you need to do is have a phone that can download the Amazon

flex application have a reliable transportation to get the boxes from

point A to B and you need to be able to lift packages that maybe weigh more than ten

pounds you can make from $18 to $25 depending on where you live and your

experience the downside is there only have this

service in Boston New York Philadelphia and San Francisco for now okay number

seven is another Amazon product it's Amazon home services so if you offer any

kind of services like painting or plumbing or any type of service lawn

care you can put your services on Amazon home services and you are backed by the

Amazon trust so people are gonna trust this a lot more than on Craigslist and

you can make anywhere from you know a thousand a month to way more okay number

eight one of my favorites is called gigwalk gigwalk is only in the United

States and Canada but essentially you are you paid to just walk around the

city and finish tasks at companies or people need to get done so they can be

as little as take a picture of this house on this street or go to this

grocery store and check on a price of this type of soy milk little jobs like

this companies will pay you to complete all you have to do is have a phone and

in the app you see all the gigs that are in your area if you like the price and

you like the details you can apply for the gig and do the

okay okay my next job is shipt shipt is a perfect size hustle for anybody that

love shopping it doesn't want to pay for so what is shipt shipt is an

on-demand grocery delivery service that are looking for a reliable and

trustworthy people to deliver their products to their customers so what you

have to do is you have to shop for the groceries and then deliver it to their

customers the great thing about this is you can set your own schedule and you

work whenever you want all you need to be is at least 18 years old with a

reliable transportation a license and I clean background record okay my last job

number ten is take lessons take lessons is pretty much you are teaching any

skill that you know I truly believe that everyone is an expert in something and

you can teach on take lessons with any type of skill you have whether you know

a second language or an instrument or you know how to dance

you know how to cook a certain type of a meal anything that you think someone

else maybe doesn't know you can take that to other people on take lessons and

the great thing about take lessons is it's not exclusively for children like

VIP kid or just teaching English you can teach anything that you can think of

there's no limit okay so that's all I have for you guys today I really hope

you found it useful so I find it more interesting when people are actually

like commenting and like interacting with me in the comments so let me know

down below what things you do to make a little extra cash what things have you

heard of before do you even want to hear more videos like this because I have a

lot of other ways that I have made money in the past and continue to make money

is this something you want to hear about or are you ballin let me know in the

comments below thanks for watching this video please subscribe and give me a

like if you haven't already and I will see you in the next video bye

Dug my way out, blood and fire

Bad decisions, that's alright

Welcome to my silly life

Mistreated, misplaced, misunderstood

Miss No-Way-It's-All-Good

It didn't slow me down

Mistaken, always second guessing

Underestimated, look, I'm still around

Pretty, pretty, please, don't you ever, ever feel

Like you're less than fucking perfect

Pretty, pretty, please, if you ever, ever feel

Like you're nothing. You're fucking perfect to me

You're so mean, so mean when you talk, when you talk

About yourself. You were wrong

Change the voices, change the voices in your head, in your head

Make them like you instead

So complicated

Look how we all make it

Filled with so much hatred

Such a tired game

It's enough, I've done all I could think of

Chased down all my demons

I've seen you do the same

Oh, pretty, pretty, pretty

Pretty, pretty, please, don't you ever, ever feel
