Youtube daily report Apr 22 2018

I woke up Saturday morning to the news that SmugMug a privately-owned photo

sharing app bought Flickr a web tool era darling from Yahoo

"What?" "Who?" - Emoji Movie

Now, this was a move that I did

NOT see coming it all but looking at the deal in retrospect

makes absolutely perfect sense.

"What are you even talking about?" The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005)

You see, I knew Don MacAskill, CEO of SmugMug

and all-around good guy back in the day of Flickr's glory.

Even as the competitor at the time, he was a big supporter of Flickr and the

community. And I can't think of a better person to make Flickr great again.

"Ugh." Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013)

Web 2.0 may be a laughable term now, but it was part of a very hopeful, dare I say

"idyllic" era in which many of us saw the web - and particularly the social web - as

a way to find our tribe. And even though that is still sort of part of the fabric

of the social web we experience today, that aim to create spaces where people

can connect with others who share their passions has been all but stifled

in the era of influencers and programmatic and everything else that's

turned social into more of an attention engine than a platform to connect.

"I'm listening." BoJack Horseman

My name is Tara and this is ...Truly Social.

I love Instagram. Or, I love it mostly because, well, it makes me look

significantly better: hotter, more successful, and even more cultured than I

really am. And lots of people love Instagram for the same thing.

"That doesn't sound like me." The Office (2005)

No? Not you? You think you love Instagram because you're

sharing precious moments or peering into others lives to see theirs? (laughter)

No wonder apps like Instagram are

being cited as raising our collective anxiety and

depression levels. We all know that what's shared on Instagram and other

social platforms nowadays are the highlights - the good times - not the behind

the scenes - aka real-life. The selfies taken after getting all dolled up, the

celebratory dinner after getting that raise, the view and tickets from those

great seats you got at that theater production. What you won't see or which

you rarely see are the low lights. The selfies from the bad hair day. The Kraft

Dinner with hot dogs meal because you've run out of money a week before payday.

The photo of you sitting on your sofa on a Friday night watching terrible RomComs

...again.

"In real life, the robot wins." Community (2009)

That's the real, human, mundane everyday

life stuff that we all share in common but people are sharing less and less of

online now. If these photos are shared, it's to make a point or a joke.

#nomakeupselfie anyone?

"I Had No Idea That's What You Looked Like With No Makeup." Childrens Hospital (2008)

Even worse,

we've gotten to the point that, if we see a friend sharing content about a bad

day, a bad mood, or a bad break, we recoil from it. We make a big deal out

of it. We try to fix it. If we see people posting too many mundane bad photos, we

unfollow them. We're using our likes as a way to shame people into editing their

lives. We've become intolerant to imperfection, which ultimately isolates

each and every one of us. It does the opposite of connecting.

"I'm so alone." King Of The Hill (1997)

Back in the day

of Flickr glory and, really the beginnings of SmugMug, too, people shared

everything. The celebratory AND the suck. The story was more complete. We would

take 50 photos at an event and upload 40 of them, only leaving out the truly

embarrassing or terribly lit. Flickr wasn't a competition it was a community.

Now, there were certain people, mostly photographers building their portfolios

and skills, who would post one good photo per day only. But mostly people would

upload everything they took and organize the photos into albums, tagging people and

places and moments with care. We posted and shared and connected.

I don't even recall caring about followers or likes.

"How many Twitter followers do I have?" Veep (2012)

So why on earth would we do that? For several reasons:

Number one: as I've already mentioned, to connect. I got to meet people from around

the world who shared my passions. I felt like I knew people before I got to even

meet them. Number two, to help. My Flickr photos show up in Google searches for

different experiences I've had. And by marking my photos as Creative Commons

share-alike, I offer a repository of images that people can use for

anything. I've found my photos on articles, blog posts and even album covers from

around the world! I also wanted to help people feel like they weren't alone.

On those bad days, when I struggled with self-doubt or the fallout from the bad

decisions, I posted that, too.

"Everything In My Life Is A Hot Mess Right Now." Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013)

Now I have over 15,000 photos on my phone, and only maybe a couple hundred on

Instagram. All carefully curated and edited. Just as a comparison, I have over

15,000 photos on Flickr and most of them were put on their pre-smartphone

domination. How many photos do you take that aren't shared?

People who post

online have learned to refrain from posting their worst. But here's the rub:

whether posts it or not, we all have bad days, good days, mundane days, bizarre days,

fabulous days, terrible days, heartbreaking days...you name it.

"Wow. Life Unfolds So Unpredictably." Dr. Ken (2015)

I really hope that the SmugMug acquisition

means that community - with the good, bad and ugly of it - gets a revival and

people, regular people who don't give a rat's a$$ becoming an influencer,

but who may just want to connect with others and share moments...well they get a

photo sharing app. Personally, I will pay to make sure Don and his family don't have

to cater to the Instagram models and celebrities and wannabe influencers

who have shaped the direction of so many other platforms.

"Yeah, I really feel like I'm finally catching up with the Kardashians." Please Like Me (2013)

We may have gone past the point where we

can look at the social web as some sort of utopic place where humans can totally

be humans - warts at all. But perhaps we can build a place where we could stop

feeling like everything needs to be perfect and edited.

"I'm not perfect, but who are we kidding? Neither are you." Wedding Crashers (2005)

My name is Tara and this has been ...Truly Social.

Book Unboxings & Love, Simon | Reading Vlog - Duration: 15:16.

I've been absolutely horrendous at filming anything at all this week

but I just got my PageHabit box and I am so incredibly excited about it because

for the first time ever I think since getting this subscription service.

I think I may have guessed what the book is and if I'm right, I am gonna be so so happy.

So I thought I would open it up right now and I'm really sorry if you

can hear the rain. I'm in our conservatory and it's barely raining but

because I'm in here it sounds like there is a full-on storm outside. So I'm sorry

if you can hear that but it's I think about six o'clock and there is no light

anywhere else in the house. So I apologise for that. The first thing I have in

the box is just a little card telling me what genre the other genre

boxes got. If you don't know PageHabit offers a wide range of different genres

of books you can get in your box. So I have the YA box this month but they

also offer things like mystery and romance, horror and fantasy and things

like that and then also each month PageHabit donates a portion of their profit

to a different literary organisation. So on the back of that card it just gives

some information about where the money has gone this month and what that money

will be doing. So this month it went to 'Books for Africa' to donate books to a

community in Kenya. I then have a short story which also comes each month in the

PageHabit box and this one is the appointment by Kelsey De Jardines and I'm

probably pronouncing that wrong but I'm assuming it is French and I don't know

anything about this but I'm intrigued to see what it is because it looks very

ominous. I then also happen the PageHabit bookmark that comes with each

PageHabit box and this one says "many people, myself among them, feel better at

the mere sight of a book." I think this might be my favourite one we've gotten so far.

The first I guess item in the xox we have is a cable photo holder. I don't

really know how it works. Oh okay, it's like a big piece of cable

string and then you click on your photos to it which is really, really cool.

We then also have a pack of leather stickers, which includes a strawberry,

a star, a ring, a cat and a unicorn. Next I have a garden adult colouring book and

I've never really tried colouring because I'm a perfectionist and this is meant to

be super calming and sort of great for mindfulness and stress relief but for

me, colouring makes me more stressed because

as I said, I'm a perfectionist. I'm also not very very good at art.

So this could be interesting because I haven't tried it for a very

very long time but I just always love the idea of sitting down and colouring.

So I may have to give this a go and it looks absolutely adorable. To be honest

I'm excited about this. First I saw it and I wasn't but now I'm picturing

myself, you know, watching TV and colouring and essentially I'm an 83 year-old but

we're gonna go with it. And then finally in the box we have the book of the month,

which is the book that I thought it was going to be and I am so so incredibly

happy and that is 'The Poet X' by Elizabeth Acevedo. This sounds absolutely fantastic.

This has been on my TBR for so long and it's on my Amazon wishlist but

I'm currently on a book buying ban and I wasn't going to be able to buy it but

it was gonna be one of the first books that I got myself once I'm off my book

buying ban. So this couldn't be more perfect. This is basically I believe

written in verse and I believe it follows a young black girl, kind of

discovering herself and her identity and her place in her family and her religion

and things like that but all through slam poetry and it just sounds

absolutely superb. And I'm so excited to read another book written in verse

because I have only read two but I really like reading books in verse.

I just think it's so interesting and such a different reading experience and this

I'm so incredibly excited about. And also the cover is stunning and I'm so excited

to be able to reach the annotations from the author in it because the books that

you get in the PageHabit box are annotated by the author themselves.

So this is fantastic and then I believe there is also a letter from the author.

Yes and then we also have a letter from the author and I cannot wait to read

this and I am so incredibly happy that I now have this book because I was just

pining over it because I've heard so many fantastic things about it and yes that

is it for my March box. If you would like to try out a page habit box. Whether that's

in the YA genre or any of the other genres they offer, I have a link in

the description box you can use and then also an affiliate code. Which is just

GIRLREAD Where you can get free shipping if you it in the US and five

dollars off your shipping if you are international. The past two books I've

got I've been so incredibly excited about. This one and then I read

'The Wedding Date' which came in my last book box and I

absolutely adored that. So I would definitely recommend it and I'm excited

to now try fingers crossed and feel super calm whilst doing some colouring

and then hopefully pick up this book very, very soon because I don't think I'm

gonna be able to wait to pick it out for very long. I just finished watching the

new trailer for the TV adaptation of 'You' by Caroline Kepnes and I have so many

feelings about it because on the one hand, it was the most disturbing book

I've ever read in my entire life and was the only book I've ever read where I had

to put it down on numerous occasions because it was just so messed up and so

disturbing that I couldn't physically continue reading it but on the other

hand, I love the cast. I love Shay Mitchell,

I love Penn Badgley. I have been completely in love with him ever since

he was Woodchuck Todd in 'Easy A' and I just adored him. I feel like it's

something I'm gonna have to watch because I did really, no I can't say I

enjoyed the book because I didn't. It wasn't an enjoyable reading experience.

It was so freaking disturbing and made me question everything but the thing

that made it so creepy was the writing style and I don't know whether that's

going to come across in the TV show but I have until September to mentally

prepare myself to watch it. If I ever actually manage to because oh my gosh

it was so, so incredibly disturbing. Excuse my disgustingly dirty screen but

can we just take a moment to appreciate the fact that this dude just does not

age. He looks exactly the same as he has done since 'Easy A'. I have so many feelings

and also I'm just so disturbed about it because I hated the book but I really

didn't hate the book and it's just messing with my brain. And also I don't

hate any of the people in it but I kind of feel like I need to because I hate

the characters and it's just, it's stressful and I keep watching the

trailer and finding even more creepy things popping up. Anyway that's a thing

that's happened today. I've watched this about five times and

I'm very, very intrigued but I do not know how to feel. Please excuse all of

the mess but I just finished reading the Espionage chapter of 'Wonder Women' by

Sam Maggs and Sofia Foster-Dimino and I have never wanted to be a spy more in my

life because these women are so incredibly cool and so incredibly

awesome and I could never be as cool as that but

also I just want to be a spy. I think I would be a great spy and also at the

same time, probably the worst spy that the world has ever known but it would be

so much fun. I would be awful but somehow would manage

to get things there in the end. It would be fine in the end but this is

so much fun. I'm just learning about all of these awesome women throughout

history that have done amazing things for science and medicine and espionage

and it's just great and I think now I have the innovation chapter and the

adventurer chapter and I am very, very excited and it's a lot of fun. So this is

something I would definitely recommend because I've been learning about some

very, very cool women throughout history and I have now been reminded of how much

I desperately want to be a spy. I just realised that I haven't really

updated you on what I've been reading and that is because I haven't been

reading. I've kind of just gotten myself into this weird little reading slump

because I can't decide what to read. I just keep staring at the books that I

have on my shelves and no matter how much I stare, none of them seem to jump

out at me. So I haven't really been reading. Well I haven't been reading

because I spent the last few days just watching TV instead because I can't

decide what to read. So therefore I'm just binge watching even more

'Marvels: Agents of Shield' but last week I did finally finish 'The Knife of Never Letting Go'

by Patrick Ness and I have a few feelings. The first is that I really

enjoyed it. The second is that this book both made me put every single ounce of

my energy into not sobbing and also equally made me want to throw it out the

window at 3:00 a.m. There is a scene in this that kind of made me want to give

up on reading forever. It kind of led me into this false sense of security where

I was really enjoying it and then I got my heart ripped out and stomped on and I

kind of wanted to burn it because oh my goodness, it hurt a lot. I just keep

thinking about the movie and the casting for this movie. A lot of the narrative of

this book is following the main character and kind of the lead up from

him going to 12 to 13 but Tom Holland is playing him in the movie and Tom Holland

I think is like 20/21/22 and I'm just confused because I don't know how a 21

year old can be playing a 13 year old. I know that in Hollywood, more often

than not teens are played by 20 year olds but there is a big difference

between a 21 year old playing an 18 year old or 16 year old and a 21 year old

playing a 13 year old. There's a big difference between being 13 and 16 just

in the way you are and the way you look. So I'm confused and also I believe Daisy

Ridley is in this and she plays another character who I assumed was kind of the

same age as Todd. So 13/14 she is 25/26 and I just don't know how that is gonna work.

It just seems very far-fetched to me that these mid 20 year olds could be

playing 13-year olds. I'm assuming that they will be playing sort of older characters.

I don't see how they can be playing 13 to 14 year olds. I also think

it'd be such a shame. Especially after having watched 'A Wrinkle in Time' recently

where the characters I think were around 14 and the actors and

actresses playing them were also 14 and they were absolutely fantastic. So I

think that would be a shame but I'm definitely very intrigued. I'm not sure

when I'm gonna continue with this series because I don't have the second or third

book and I'm currently not buying books. I would like to because I did really

enjoy this, I'm just hoping that that scene it's not portrayed on the screen

and also I am very confused about the casting for this movie. Also I just

found out Nick Jonas is in this. Which I am all for because at the age of like 10

I decided that we were going to get married because we have the same birthday.

Which is a very logical decision to make for a ten-year-old.

My parents went away early this morning and I just realised that they took my

toothbrush accidentally and I spent a good five minutes or so googling how to

make a toothbrush before realising that I could just use a new one. I could just

use a new different toothbrush but I spent five minutes of my actual life

googling how to make one but I did discover that apparently, if you use a

wet paper towel on your finger and put toothpaste on it and just brush away

like that, it works pretty well as an emergency toothbrush. So if you ever find

yourself stuck without a toothbrush, apparently that is a somewhat good

replacement. Why did my brain go to that first? Why did my brain just go

'oh my goodness. It's an emergency. It is the apocalypse. I need to discover how to make a toothbrush.'

Before I could just use and open a new toothbrush. I have other toothbrushes I could use.

Just get a new one. I just got some book mail, so I thought I'd open it up. I have

no idea what it is but I do know it's from Harper360. It's 'Monday's Not Coming'

by Tiffany D. Jackson, which I am so incredibly excited about. This is all

about a girl whose best friend goes missing and nobody's really looking into it.

So her best friends kind of decides to take it into her own hands and it

sounds absolutely fantastic and very apt for what is going on in the media at the

moment and just in the world at the moment in general. I read Tiffany D. Jackson's

other book 'Allegedly' a couple of months ago and I really, really

enjoyed her writing style. So this sounds fantastic and I have a feeling I will be

picking it up very soon. It's really hot out and my dog's getting really hot and

my mum just told me that apparently dogs really enjoy frozen carrots and I'm not

sure whether that's late April Fool's or not but we're gonna give it a go.

Stay. Paw. Good girl.

Do you want one? Should we give you one?

Sit. Good girl. You're know sure are you? Nah.

While my dog is gnawing away on a carrot over here,

I just realised that I don't think I've mentioned that I finally saw

'Love, Simon' with my mum at the weekend and it was absolutely wonderful. If you haven't

gone to see it, I without a doubt, 110% recommend it. I absolutely adored it.

I just came out of the cinema feeling so uplifted and in such a good mood and

my mum just keeps saying that she can't stop thinking about it and every now and

then she just keeps bringing it up and mentioning how much he adored it because

we both just felt it was the perfect feel good kind of rom-com,

coming-of-age movie. I just think they did such an amazing job with it.

I thought the cast was absolutely perfect. I loved Nick Robinson and the person

that played Abby and I can't quite remember her name right now. It's

completely lost on me but I thought they were perfect. There wasn't anyone really

that I didn't enjoy. Also if you haven't read the book yet, I also recommend that

because that was equally as wonderful and I'm just so happy for Becky Albertalli.

Are you not eating that carrot? You don't want it?

What do you want, hm? What are you looking at?

I'm just so happy that it had such a good reception and I'm just so excited

about it and I absolutely adored it and as I said, even my mum keeps thinking

about it and keeps talking about it and keeps mentioning it and she keeps sort

of saying 'if it can touch her, then it can touch anyone' and yeah I just thought it was great.

I definitely recommend going to see that and I'm just now gonna, I don't know,

Play with this thing because she is not eating her carrot. She doesn't want it.

I'm not surprised but my other dog absolutely loved it.

I think I'm probably gonna leave this here for now but I have finally decided

on what I want to read and I finally started reading a book for the first

time in what feels like absolutely forever and that is 'Renegades' by

Marissa Meyer and so far I'm really enjoying it. It's kind of reminding me of

'The Avengers' meets 'Divergent'. It's got that kind of 'Divergent' esque feel to it

but with superheroes and I'm really enjoying it but it is taking me a very

very long time to get through. Despite reading it for a couple of days, I've

barely made a dent in it. For some reason it's just slightly slower paced than I was

expecting it to be and it is taking me a while to you know get into it but I am

really enjoying the characters. I'm really liking the story. So I'm intrigued

to see where this is gonna go and yeah I think that's probably it for this week

but I'd absolutely love to know what you have been reading this week and whether

or not you have seen 'Love, Simon' yet and if you have what you thought of it.

Because I would absolutely love to talk about it and just gush about it because

that is essentially all my mum and I have been doing since we went to see it

and also if you've read 'Renegades', I would love to know what you thought

about it and whether or not you liked it because I am definitely enjoying it so

far but it is taken me a while to get through. But yeah, that is that and I just

hope you've been having a really, really lovely week and I hope you're having a

fantastic day.

Control My Growth Initiative Evaluation Proposal - Duration: 10:39.

Welcome to our evaluation proposal for the Control My Growth Initiative.

My name is Erin Eberle and I am honored for the opportunity to share this amazing program

and the ways we we would like to evaluate it.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Control My Growth Initiative, or CMG, I would first

like to share the components of the program and the rationale behind it.

From there, we will have a chance to dive into the evaluation process.

The primary concern of any evaluation should be the outcomes and how they will be used

to strengthen the program.

We will give each of these areas a brief overview today.

Control My Growth Initiative is the brainchild of a middle school teacher who was looking

for innovative ways to take her students to the next step of growth and achievement.

CMG is designed to address student achievement in three main areas.

The first is Metacognition through Data Conferences.

Metacognition is a self awareness of mental processes.

Through regular data conferences with the teacher about growth and academic achievement,

CMG hopes to encourage students to adhere to the Growth Mindset.

Connecting to the Growth Mindset, the next area of focus is Metacognition through Goal

Setting.

Many middle school students struggle to envision long term opportunities and achievements.

CMG encourages students to set short and long term goals, putting them in control of their

own success.

The third and final component of the program is to differentiate activities in the classroom

through a 1-to-1 technology environment.

This element of the program will group students into four levels of achievement groups, which

we will discuss in detail later in this presentation.

A moment ago I mentioned metacognition through growth mindset.

I would like to revisit that term, "growth mindset."

Growth mindset is a concept popularized by psychologist Carol Dweck.

She establishes that people fall into one of two categories.

Either people believe they were born with a certain amount of intelligence and they

will stay that level their entire lives OR people believe their brain is a muscle that

can be exercised and improved upon.

CMG is looking to promote the later.

Dweck's research shows that a shift in mindset can have significant impact on growth and

achievement, both as students and as adults.

The line of questioning used in the data conferences are specifically designed to promote this

growth mindset.

The differentiated lessons will also be formatted in such a way that promotes growth mindset.

Many schools implement ability grouping when they plan the schedules of students, especially

in the Math and Language Arts classrooms.

In a perfect world, these ability groups would fall into the traditional categories.

There would be one group that is "on grade level" and are performing where they are

expected to be.

There would be one group at a higher level, and one group on a lower level.

Ask any classroom teacher and they will tell you that in reality it doesn't always work

out that way.

In every class there are outliers.

There are students who have different academic needs than the rest of the class.

But intentionally designing the classroom to address the needs of these students, both

at the top and bottom, all students can be pushed to achieve to their highest potential.

A 1-to-1 situation puts digital devices in the hands of all learners.

By making it easy for teachers to deliver individualized instruction, it is now sustainable

for teachers to have dramatic differentiation programs.

As has been discussed, the goal of CMG is to have a positive impact on the data.

To measure the effectiveness, it is critical for the evaluation to be well designed and

able to delve into all areas.

Before any evaluation can get started, we have to have a starting point.

CMG is being piloted at Wiley Middle School in Winston Salem, NC.

Wiley is a Title I school with a vibrant community from varied ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

Wiley students have, historically, not been reaching critical levels of proficiency.

This deficit is not limited to the End of Grade (EOG) testing put out by the North Carolina

Department on Public Instruction (NCDPI).

For example, in the last two years on mid year Language Arts Benchmarks, Wiley students

have been achieving, on average, 58% proficiency.

Our students are growing, but not nearly enough.

This is a standard that the Wiley community is not willing to accept.

The data in math is even more cause for concern.

By looking at data collected at mid-year benchmarks, an average of 38.5% of Wiley students are

testing on a proficient level.

CMG is designed to change the ways Wiley is addressing these deficits so that our students

can grow and remain competitive as they grow into fully functioning members of our community.

The evaluation will collect starting point data in several other areas as well, including

student dispositions, reading levels, and individual achievement data.

The graphic you see here is a portion of the logic model, linking resources to intended

activities and outputs.

The evaluation will be assessing the effectiveness of each of these activities through a series

of analysis questions.

There are specific questions and methods for gathering data that will be used for each

element of program evaluation.

Each area of the program requires specialized data collection and analysis.

We will go through each of these areas in turn.

First let's look at the Metacognition through goal setting element of the program.

In order to effectively evaluate the impact CMG has in this area, we have broken it down

into three main questions, seen here in the middle.

How do students perceive intelligence and goal setting?

Does participation in CMG cause any changes in their perceptions?

How well can students set goals and work towards them?

The first two will be evaluated using the same instrument, but the data will be analyzed

differently.

By conducting a student survey about dispositions towards learning and intelligence at the beginning

and end of the school year, quality data can be gathered about student beliefs.

The survey is a combination of Carol Dweck's mindset scale and the Duckworth Grit scale.

These are tools widely used in the psychology field to measure beliefs, attitudes, and perceptions.

The final evaluation question in this area will be answered using information gathered

in data conferences.

Are students able to set realistic goals, work towards them, and achieve them?

Students will meet quarterly with teachers to discuss achievement data on classroom and

district assessments.

After the conference, teachers will fill out a brief evaluation focusing on student goal

setting.

The second area of concern for the evaluation is student metacognition regarding their own

achievement data.

The information evaluators need to measure this element will be gathered during the aforementioned

data conferences.

The data conferences will be loosely scripted to simplify the process for teachers and to

ensure that the relevant data is collected.

Teachers will take notes on their copy of the reflection guide.

The information will be filled out throughout the conference, which is designed to last

no more than 5 minutes.

Conferences are expected to be kept brief in order to allow for teachers to have time

to meet with all students.

During the conference, students will expected to complete their own data reflections.

This will ensure students are held accountable for participating in their own data conference

and will provide extra detail for clarity in case the student struggles to orally express

their responses in the conference.

The students will also complete a goal setting activity, all of which will be assessed with

the same common rubric.

The data conferences will allow the evaluation team to collect the data in as unobtrusive

a way as possible.

By having students conference with their teacher, rather than a member of the evaluation team,

students are more likely to feel comfortable and give more honest responses.

The third area of CMG is the differentiated lessons and activities.

Much of this data will be provided by the school district or classroom teacher.

The first question in this category refers to "expected growth."

Each year, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, plugs the traditional

performance data of a student into a complex formula and projects the score that each student

is expected to earn on End of Year testing.

By analyzing expected growth, evaluators will be able to measure student academic success,

especially compared to peers who are not in the program.

As was discussed earlier, students will be broken into different intervention groups

based on academic needs.

The criteria for this leveling will depend on which academic area CMG is being implemented

in.

The pilot of the program is taking place in Language Arts, so students will be split based

on Lexile Level.

This question is trying to determine if the differentiation is successful enough for students

to be able to move into a different intervention group.

The final question is perhaps the most vital of the entire evaluation.

Are students showing growth?

By using the word "growth," we are trying to minimize the impact of outside variables

like learning disorders, language barriers, and academically gifted classifications.

The evaluators do have some expected outcomes for each area of the program.

We expect to see increased student achievement and shifts in dispositions towards intelligence

and goal setting.

Different elements of the program will impact different elements of the outcomes.

It is expected that a side effect of students using so much technology for the differentiated

instruction will have an impact on their skills as a 21st century learner.

An evaluation is all well and good, but it is meaningless unless the results are used

to foster growth and development of the subject program.

The main stakeholders will meet with the evaluation team to discuss the data gathered and the

Evaluation results.

CMG staff will be able to use any data to make adjustments in the program and to strengthen

any areas of weakness.

A table cannot stand on three legs - CMG needs all three elements of the program to be strong

to foster real change.

Mini Maker Faire: Salt Lake City 2018 field trip - Duration: 2:58.

There's so much "making" going on out there.

Today we're taking a field trip to the Salt Lake Mini Maker Faire.

Are you interested in what peaked my interest at the

Salt Lake City Mini Maker Faire this year?

That's coming up, right now!

[Introduction]

Hi! Harley here. Welcome!

It's time again for the highlights from this year's

Mini Maker Faire here in Salt Lake City.

Last year I just kind of walked around and showed a little bit of everything that was

going on at the show.

This year I thought I'd focus more on the highlights of what kind of caught my eye.

But if you're new here, generally we talk about things with a mechanical or technical

bent to them.

Things made out of wood or metal, electronics, sometimes photography or computers.

If that sounds interesting to you, subscribe and hit the bell notification icon and you'll

keep up to date on what's going on.

Like last year, this year's show had many people showing a broad range of really interesting

things.

From sculptures that spit fire...

to hand drawn portraits...

to sewing...

and weaving where they talked about the automation of weaving designs and how that impacted the

early computer industry...

to persistence of vision displays...

and of course 3D printers...

and drones.

One of the things I found really interesting was this paper making setup.

They first made a slurry out of old rags and recycled paper and then they used this homemade

press to make sheets out of it.

And another one was this cool homemade surface grinder made out of square tubing, 3D printed

brackets and and angle grinder.

And then there were these Teletype displays.

One was a pair of model 15s that were connected to an Arduino for control and then the Arduino

was connected to a Raspberry Pi.

This was configured so you could text messages to the Raspberry Pi and it would print out

on the teleprinters.

Really cool stuff!

And across the aisle from them, was a model 33 that was connected to a Linux computer

running a bash shell on a console.

It was really interesting to learn how a motor, some relays, some solenoids and a bunch of

mechanical bits could be configured to send electronic messages across the country.

And it was really interesting the mix of the new and the old technology being used together.

I believe everyone has a God-given creative spark.

Sometimes this manifests through making things with a mechanical or technical bent to them.

If this is you, I hope to inspire, educate and encourage you on your creative endeavors.

Usually this involves various physical media, like wood, metal, electronics, sometimes photography

and computers.

If this sounds interesting to you, subscribe and hit the bell notification icon and I'll

see you again in the next video.

Thanks for joining me on this creative journey we're on.

Until next time, go make something.

Perfection's not required.

Fun is!
