Youtube daily report Apr 7 2018

JUDY WOODRUFF: And, finally, as we Mark the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King's assassination,

special correspondent Charlayne Hunter-Gault sat down with one of King's closest friends,

artist and activist Harry Belafonte, in his home.

Charlayne began by asking Belafonte how he first met Dr. King some 65 years ago.

HARRY BELAFONTE, Musician: He was coming to New York to speak to the religious community,

the ecumenical community at the Abyssinian Baptist Church.

As a young black artist on the rise, I began to make a bit of noise on my own terms.

I began to violate the codes of racial separation.

I understood the evils of racism and rebelled from my youth.

He was 24.

I was 26.

And I listened to him.

And I was just absolutely struck with the way in which he presented his case to the

black community, condemning them for being not more engaged in the social destiny of

black people.

CHARLAYNE HUNTER-GAULT: Really?

HARRY BELAFONTE: Yes.

CHARLAYNE HUNTER-GAULT: That must have gone over big.

HARRY BELAFONTE: It went over very big.

(LAUGHTER)

HARRY BELAFONTE: Got me.

(LAUGHTER)

CHARLAYNE HUNTER-GAULT: That was very big.

What do you remember the most about him?

HARRY BELAFONTE: His intellect.

I didn't quite understand how a man just 24 years old, already with a Ph.D. from the university,

and he to have put together this view of black life in a way that was most contentious and

most rebellious against the system.

And when he said he wanted to meet with me, I said, "Yes, I would love to meet you."

Both of are sitting in the basement of the Abyssinian Baptist Church.

He sat at the table after he had spoken to the religious leaders.

And that was the beginning of our relationship.

What he said took would take about 20 minutes took almost four hours.

CHARLAYNE HUNTER-GAULT: Oh, my.

What made him such a special person, you think?

HARRY BELAFONTE: Divine intervention, because I think that the course that he set for himself

became most antagonist to many members of the black church, his father included.

Daddy King didn't like making all of this trouble with white folks.

CHARLAYNE HUNTER-GAULT: Is that right?

HARRY BELAFONTE: Yes.

And Martin, knowing that that would be somewhat challenging to his father, stepped up in there

anyway, and he says, "I have got to do this."

He was very concerned that, in choosing him to be the leader of the movement, that he

might be leading people into harm's way.

He said: "I'm not cut out for this.

I don't know what to do."

CHARLAYNE HUNTER-GAULT: So he had his doubts?

HARRY BELAFONTE: Grave doubts as to his qualifications.

He was willing to be patient.

He was willing to take on the responsibility, because he had a vision eventually for what

he thought he might be able to achieve.

He wasn't too sure about it.

He was very much in conflict with what that might lead to.

CHARLAYNE HUNTER-GAULT: And he also had a family at that time.

Did he have conflicts there about being away from them so much?

HARRY BELAFONTE: Yes.

Yes.

He didn't understand how daunting all of this would become.

He saw it really as something to which there would be a commitment for a year or two to

straighten out this thing on riding on the bus and segregation laws, and that that could

be dealt with in short order, if there was enough power behind his leadership.

But when we got into it, it turned out to be much more than that, because once he got

into the idea of ending segregation, he then had to talk about poverty.

He then had to talk out housing in the South.

And Dr. King went down and established a relationship with the garbage workers, but then found out

that their plight was part of a much bigger canvas, and that he had to take on the plight

of all poor people.

CHARLAYNE HUNTER-GAULT: Black or white.

HARRY BELAFONTE: Black or white.

CHARLAYNE HUNTER-GAULT: Or any color.

HARRY BELAFONTE: All caught up in the unjust economic system.

CHARLAYNE HUNTER-GAULT: Now, in his "To the Mountaintop" speech, which, of course, was

his last...

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR., Civil Rights Leader: And I have seen the promised land.

CHARLAYNE HUNTER-GAULT: ... he spoke then -- that was 1968 -- of how the nation was

sick.

He said trouble in the land, confusion all around.

And yet he remained hopeful, because he said at that time, only when it is dark enough

can we see the stars.

What enabled him to stay hopeful, and you, too?

HARRY BELAFONTE: His moral -- his moral sense of justice.

He just really felt that what he was doing was morally correct.

CHARLAYNE HUNTER-GAULT: What do you think he would be working on today?

HARRY BELAFONTE: Well, If Dr. King had lived, there would be no today as we know it.

His impact on universal order, his impact on the globe, his impact on the world has

taken on such a humongous power, that he was shaping human history.

CHARLAYNE HUNTER-GAULT: Because he said, we are all wrapped in a single garment of destiny.

HARRY BELAFONTE: Exactly, that there's no way out of this.

You all can do what you want to do, but I'm going to have to wrestle with the fact that

there ain't nothing you can do but deal with it.

CHARLAYNE HUNTER-GAULT: OK.

So, what do you think it will take today to make his dream of the beloved community a

reality?

HARRY BELAFONTE: Until white America begins or even decides to identify a moral course

of history, I don't think anything is going to happen.

I think America will self-destruct.

CHARLAYNE HUNTER-GAULT: But the civil rights movement was black and white together.

HARRY BELAFONTE: Yes.

CHARLAYNE HUNTER-GAULT: That's not the case anymore?

HARRY BELAFONTE: That's the case, but it's not the fact.

The case is that we have to fix it.

The fact is that it's not fixable if white folks don't decide to change their course

of conduct.

The only thing left for black people to do is to burn it down.

We have been lynched.

We have been murdered.

And, if you look around, never before in my 91 years of history as an American have I

ever seen the nation more racially divisive than it is at this very moment, including

the days of the Ku Klux Klan and the segregation laws of the South.

CHARLAYNE HUNTER-GAULT: But do you have any hope from the young people who have now, after

the tragedy in Florida, who have taken to the streets and have taken to the capital,

and are saying that they're going to continue?

Do you get any hope for them?

HARRY BELAFONTE: Yes, I get great hope from them.

But I have always gotten great hope from young people.

It's always young people who are in the forefront.

Dr. King was 24, for God's sakes.

That is a young person.

He's not a kid.

But all around him were these young men who were 18 and 19 and 20.

CHARLAYNE HUNTER-GAULT: So it may be a moment of passing the baton?

Are you ready for that?

HARRY BELAFONTE: Yes.

We have been ready for it.

CHARLAYNE HUNTER-GAULT: Well, Harry Belafonte, thank you for joining us.

HARRY BELAFONTE: Well, what are you going to do with the baton?

CHARLAYNE HUNTER-GAULT: Good question.

Dems Just Passed MASSIVE BAN – Effective Immediately, ALL Must Be Removed Or Be Fined $1K Per DAY! - Duration: 7:37.

And it's here folks.

What the Socialist and Communist Fascist left has been working towards is finally happening.

On Monday night the Fascists leaders in the village of Deerfield Illinois voted unanimously

to ban semi-automatic rifles.

Along with some pistols and even shotguns "with certain features," as well as with

magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition and now gun owners in that city

have just over two months to remove those kinds of firearms from their homes or become

felons as of June of this year.

One change from the law as it was originally discussed exempts retired police officers

from the ban.

But violations carry a steep fine of between $250 and $1,000 per day, according to Matthew

Rose, the village attorney.

He said the fine is levied each day until there is compliance.

Sadly there isn't much pushback in this village so there probably won't be much

of any kind of any lawsuits against the ordinance unless the NRA wants to get involved, which

is doubtful considering they already have enough on their plate thanks to the left coercing

the Parkland shooting students into being mouthpieces for them.

Folk, this is what happens when a government is out of control.

The vote in Deerfield was unanimous.

Even though the area is practically crime free this will now be an advertisement to

most criminals that they can go into that city to commit crimes and there won't be

much of a pushback.

But it will be very interesting to see exactly how this ordinance affects crime in the area.

This is the left's plan.

They disarm law-abiding citizens then they take our first amendment rights away.

And since we can't defend ourselves there isn't much we will be able to do but sit

back and watch.

Like people in the UK are doing now as they are being put in jail for attacking Islam

on social media.

Here is more information on this ban via The Chicago Tribune:

'Owners of assault weapons living in north suburban Deerfield have until June 13 to remove

the firearms from within village limits or face daily fines after a ban was approved

Monday night.

The Village Board of Trustees unanimously approved a ban on certain types of assault

weapons and high-capacity magazines, amending a 2013 ordinance that regulated the storage

of those items.

The new ordinance prohibits the possession, sale and manufacturing of certain types of

assault weapons and large capacity magazines within the village, according to the ordinance.

One change from the law as it was originally discussed exempts retired police officers

from the ban, according to Village Manager Kent Street.

Violations carry a fine of between $250 and $1,000 per day, according to Matthew Rose,

the village attorney.

He said the fine is levied each day until there is compliance.

Deerfield trustees prepare to vote on an assault weapons ban in front of a packed crowd April

2, 2018.

(Steve Sadin / Pioneer Press)

Street said the new law is modeled after one approved by Highland Park in 2013.

That ban survived a legal challenge by one of the city's residents and the Illinois

State Rifle Association.

The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals held that legislation constitutional and the U.S.

Supreme Court let the decision stand when it declined to take up the appeal.

Unlike Highland Park, Deerfield opted not to enact a total ban on assault weapons during

a 10-day window that Illinois lawmakers' gave home-rule municipalities in 2013 before

the state's new Firearm Concealed Carry Act eliminated their ability to do so.

However, Deerfield trustees did enact an ordinance defining assault weapons and requiring the

safe storage and safe transportation of those weapons within the village.

That measure, which was enacted during the permitted time frame, preserved Deerfield's

right to amend the ordinance in the future, Street previously said.

"This is not only held constitutional by the Seventh Circuit but similar laws have

been ruled constitutional in California, the District of Columbia and Maryland," Rose

said last month.

The original resolution said that since Deerfield enacted its regulations, "assault weapons

have been increasingly used in an alarming number of notorious mass shooting incidents

at public schools, public venues, places of worship and places of public accommodation."

Document: Deerfield assault weapon ordinance:

In the ordinance, the definition of an assault weapon includes, among others, semiautomatic

rifles that have a fixed magazine with a capacity to accept more than 10 rounds of ammunition;

shotguns with a revolving cylinder; and semiautomatic pistols and rifles that can accept large-capacity

magazines and possess one of a list of other features.

Among the dozens of specific models cited are the AR-15, AK-47 and Uzi, according to

the ordinance.

The rationale mentions four recent shooting incidents that have claimed a total of 150

lives: The shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that left 17 dead; a massacre

at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas that killed 26 people; the

Las Vegas music festival shooting that left 58 dead and the Pulse Nightclub mass shooting

in Orlando, Fla. that killed 49 people.

Though the trustees had virtually no debate Monday night, more than 70 people attended

the meeting.

Of the 20 people who spoke, 14 were opposed to the ordinance and six supported it.

Eight of 14 people who expressed opposition to the ban said they lived outside Deerfield.

Opponents of the ban like Larry Nordal of Deerfield cited their rights under the Second

Amendment and expressed fear that more restrictive laws would be passed in the future.

"The ordinance to store firearms was only passed for one reason," Nordal said.

"That was to have an amendatory vehicle that could be used in the future for just

this purpose so you could banish assorted firearms in the future.

First it's going to be assault rifles.

(There will be) new bans in the future.

It's just a matter of time."

Ariella Kharasch, a Deerfield High School senior who favors the legislation, said she

wants more action both on a local and national level.

"This is our fight," Kharasch said.

"This is our generation's fight.

We're going to keep fighting and this is part of it.

Change happens gradually step by step.

The fight does not end at the borders of our village."

Joel Siegel of Lincolnwood said governments in other countries have banned weapons and

then proceeded to use weapons against defenseless citizens.

He urged civil disobedience as a way to stay safe.

"There's an ancient and honored American tradition called disobeying an unjust law,"

Siegel said.

"I have urged (people) to listen to their conscience and if so moved do not obey this

law."

Mike Weisman, a Glen Ellyn resident and a board member of the Illinois State Rifle Association

said Deerfield should be prepared for a lawsuit like the one filed against neighboring Highland

Park.

That city received assistance with its legal defense from gun violence prevention organizations,

according to Street.

While the trustees did not discuss their reasons for supporting the ordinance at this meeting,

Trustee Barbara Struthers said she knew of people who were opposed but chose not to come

and speak because it would subject them to ridicule in the community.

She wants none of that.

"I'm going to vote for the ordinance but people who disagree with the gun owners should

not be beating them over the head just because they disagree," Struthers said.

Deerfield Mayor Harriet Rosenthal has previously stated that she decided to take up the ban

after the Feb. 14 school shooting in Parkland, Fla.

"Enough is enough," Rosenthal said when the ban was first discussed.

"Those students are so articulate just like our students.

There is no place here for assault weapons."

TOP DEMOCRAT GETS PRISON TIME - Duration: 12:55.

TOP DEMOCRAT GETS PRISON TIME

JUST IN: A top Democrat is facing twenty years in prison after being convicted of nearly

50 charges of corruption in court Thursday.

The Daily Caller reported that Allentown, Pennsylvania Mayor Ed Pawlowski was found

guilty of 47 out of 54 charges that had been leveled against him, including bribery, conspiracy,

fraud, attempted extortion as well as lying to federal officials.

On top of that, the disgraced Democrats changed city contracts in order to raise money for

his campaigns for mayor.

Pawlowski broke down in tears as the verdict was read, and his wife collapsed in the hallway

of the courtroom.

Afterwards, Assistant U.S. Attorney Anthony Wzorek blasted the behavior of Pawlowski,

who has been in office since 2006.

"This type of behavior is not acceptable," Wzorek said.

"If they don't have it of their own mind to think this is unacceptable, we will be

watching, and the FBI will be doing investigations and will root out corruption."

No date has been set for Pawlowski's sentencing, but he is facing 20 years in prison on each

count of corruption.

He will be free on bail until he is sentenced.

Jack McMahon, Pawlowski's lawyer, said he was "surprised and disappointed" by the

verdict.

McMahon had argued that oliciting campaign contributions from government contractors

as a politician is not uncommon.

He claimed that Pawlowski had been set up by the mayor's political advisers, Mike

Fleck and Sam Ruchlewicz, who secretly recorded the mayor and helped form the foundation of

the prosecutor's case against the Democrat.

While Fleck pleaded guilty, Ruchlewicz has not been charged.

McMahon tried to use the tapes for the defense's advantage, playing a June 2015 conversation

in which the mayor, who had no idea he was being recorded, complained about an engineering

executive who'd been pressuring him for city work.

"I'm not a pay-to-play guy," Pawlowski said

in the footage.

BREAKING Trump Just Had 212 ARRESTED Overnight - Duration: 14:21.

BREAKING: Trump Just Had 212 ARRESTED Overnight

JUST IN: Donald Trump just sent in the feds and had 212 people arrested, and liberals

are not happy about it.

President Donald Trump promised during his presidential campaign that he would crack

down on illegal immigration like no other leader had before.

Last week, he showed that he fully intends to continue to do this in 2018 when he had

212 illegal aliens arrested in California.

Breitbart reported that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials said that

88 percent of the illegal immigrants that were arrested in the Los Angeles area had

prior criminal convictions.

Over the course of five days, ICE agents made the arrests and served 122 notices of inspection

(NOIs) to businesses in the Los Angeles area of responsibility.

Over 55 percent of those arrested were serious or violent felons or had been convicted on

significant or multiple misdemeanors, with prior crimes including child sex crimes, weapons

charges, and assault.

"Because sanctuary jurisdictions like Los Angeles prevent ICE from arresting criminal

aliens in the secure confines of a jail, our officers are forced to conduct at-large arrests

in the community, putting officers, the general public and the aliens at greater risk and

increasing the incidents of collateral arrests," said ICE Deputy Director Thomas D. Homan.

The ICE released a statement saying that notices of inspection went to a variety of businesses.

"A notice of inspection alerts business owners that ICE is going to audit their hiring

records to determine whether or not they are in compliance with the law," according to

ICE.

"If the businesses are found to not be in compliance with the law, they will face civil

fines and potential criminal prosecution."

"Fewer jail arrests mean more arrests on the street, and that also requires more resources,

which is why we are forced to send additional resources to those areas to meet operational

needs and officer safety," Homan added.

"Consistent with our public safety mission, 88 percent of those arrested during this operation

were convicted criminals."

Liberals are furious about these arrests, of course, as they seem to want our borders

to be open and absolutely any illegal alien to be allowed to remain in our country.

However, we're glad to see that Trump is not submitting to liberals on this issue and

is continuing to try and incentivize people to come to the U.S. through legal means.

What do you think about this?

Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
