Chicagoans might have a new appreciation for single digit temperatures because of a 40 plus hour stretch of subzero weather, according to the .

On Tuesday, Chicago is expected see a high temperature of 5 degrees at OHare International Airport. However, about 6 p.m. Tuesday, en route to lows of around minus 20.

Temperatures might not recover to zero until around 3 p.m. Thursday — a possible 45 hour stretch of that could rank among the longest.

If the forecast holds, this would be tied fifth longest such stint.

However, the highs at OHare on Thursday afternoon are expected to be close to zero, meaning if temperatures fall short of that mark, Chicagoans might have to wait an additional 12 hours until Friday morning, according to weather service meteorologist Ricky Castro.

The record remains 98 hours between Dec. 22 and Dec. 25, 1983. But Castro said hes still impressed that this could outlast the 37 hour stretch during the polar vortex of January 2014.

Its amazing that this one is going to be worse, Castro said.

impact in the local community today I run a solid wood furniture

manufacturing factory and it's kind of cool because there's just that many of us

left these days we've gone through kind of a 20-year period where so much

manufacturing especially furniture manufacturing left this country and we're

down to kind of the last dog in the kennel we've you know found it somewhat

enjoyable these days and grown a little bit in 1995 he said I want to start a

business and he heard about this business in Berkeley Springs called

Seely manufacturing Tom Seely started the business in the 1950s a classic

post-world War business in the 1950s when you had so much more demand than

you had supply and had run it for years and he went he met with the

gentleman who was an elderly gentleman who had served in the military and he

said I'd like to buy your factory he turned 75 years old and was kind of looking

for someone that might be the next generation to take it over we're not

related but we kind of treat each other we treated each other for years like a

grandfather son bought the factory retooled the factory and continued to

employ not only the original families but incremental families as it's grown

year over year we're the largest private employer in

Berkeley Springs we have 150 employees he currently employs over 40 families and

is basically the income stream for 40 families in Berkeley Springs, West

Virginia, The important thing to us is we're an employer of choice we really get the kind of great

employees we've got a lot of long-term employees so we have a really cool

diverse workforce as well you know manufacturing you kind of expect old

guys with beards showing up but we've got some of those and they're very good

woodworkers but we're also actually 53% women we've got a really low turnover

rate our average tenure at our facility is a little over 12 years when we looked at

the people who impacted the families of the local community you look at those

who employ individuals families and make a difference in the local economy

and in their lives we're a very local business and you know we're nearby

Shenandoah University we kind of think this is one of the great places in the in the

world in terms of building wood furniture we're right the middle of the

Appalachian Mountains we're in a beautiful area and we feel really

fortunate to be able to make our craft you know from the materials and

resources around us and one of those resources is having a university like Shenandoah.
