Youtube daily report Jun 1 2017

Hello, I'm Rogan and welcome to VEDIM day 31, and the final day. [sad face]

So today is National MacarOOn Day. These.

Okay? Just so we're clear.

I'm...not a fan of those because of the coconut.

I know they were originally made with almonds, but here in North America the coconut is more popular.

I don't like it. I'm not really a fan of coconut flavoring. So...put that aside.

BUT. I do like macarOns. These!

There's a small difference. One O taken out.

So, what I'm doing instead: I made macarons last night with my mom.

And the rest of this video is making macarons.

And for those who say it's so hard! It's really hard to get it right the first time, blah blah.

Umm.

We succeeded just fine. And many say that you have to be specific. Kind of, yes.

But like...an example is the egg whites have to be aged.

No. My mom and I went ahead and got the egg whites (fresh) and made them fine. They taste fine.

So... You don't...

It's not as an exact science as many people think.

Just... Watch.

[SIFT repeatedly]

[STIFF PEAKS]

I obviously wasn't expecting that.

You may have noticed that they were only one color, no fancy colors.

Well. We thought we had food coloring, apparently we didn't. So we just went ahead with the white. It's fine.

But the buttercream filling was flavored with lemon. Really good!

That's it. For today and for VEDIM. So I hope you enjoyed today and the whole month.

Thank you, I really appreciate all of you watching for the whole time.

I've thought about doing this again, maybe August or...I don't know.

But I have also thought about doing Auguest, like Tyler Oakley does.

The whole month is collabs with other YouTubers. So...

I don't mind doing that. So if you are a YouTuber, or even if you're not a YouTuber but wouldn't mind making a video with me.

Or remotely or whatever. A video for me to upload. Let me know. Get in touch.

That is, if I confirm it.

I don't know how to end. [chuckling]

I also think I might take a break for a while, just to rest. So I don't have to think about making videos everyday.

I don't know how long that break will be. Hopefully, not too long. Maybe just a week, that's all. I don't know. We'll see.

If you want to support my content, I have Patreon and ko-fi. Subscribe to this channel.

Follow me on all my socials - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. Thanks for watching, see you next time.

There Are 3 Inner Causes For Most Of Our Diseases According To S - Duration: 7:46.

There Are 3 Inner Causes For Most Of Our Diseases According To Shamans

Shamans are real men and women who reach states of higher consciousness.

In doing so, they are able to perceive and communicate in ways that are not possible

under normal conditions.

This allows them to view what they believe to be the root cause of virtually all illnesses.

What is Shamanism?

Shamanism is a practice in which an individual is empowered to reach altered states of consciousness,

allowing them to perceive the spirit world, and channel energies into this world.

They live in a state of heightened awareness.

To channel this awareness, they will often enter into a trance like state when they are

practicing the rituals of healing and divination.

It is believed that they not only have access to the spiritual world, but also a level of

influence.

There is a clear distinction between the medicine of the body and the medicine of the

spirit in the training of the Shaman.

They accept that both sides of medicine are required at different times in order to maintain

proper health of the body, mind and soul.

For example, if a man were to return home from battle with an arrow in his foot, a Shaman

would first know to focus on the immediate physical concerns, such as preventing infection

and stopping the bleeding.

They have a great deal of knowledge on how to promote healing in these situations.

While the Shaman acknowledge that there are injuries of the body, such as bruises, wounds,

cuts and broken bones, they see situations involving more serious, internal diseases

in a different way.

They view diseases like cancer, heart disease, hepatitis and multiple sclerosis as effects,

and treating them with modern medicine would only treat the effects and not the root cause.

What do the Shaman believe are the 3 main root causes of disease?

A shaman believes that the cause behind disease is to be found within the imaginal realms,

the realms from which the illness draws its power to affect us.

Treating the illness on the physical plane with mediation will not accomplish true healing,

as the cause will remain.

These causes are negative internal statues, created as a response to traumatic or negative

life experiences.

Disharmony When we lose an important connection to life,

or an understanding of the meaning of life, we experience a state of disharmony.

Take, for example, an elderly couple.

They live a long, happy marriage together, when suddenly one of them passes away.

The survivor may go into a state of crisis, and within a short time of their spouses

passing they are then diagnosed with a medical condition, such as cancer, passing away only

a short time after their spouse.

Disharmony can be felt in response to many situations in life, such as losing your job,

the loss of a loved one or any other situation which shakes up your life, causing you to

feel like you are losing power.

This in turn impacts our internal energetic matrix, which leaves us vulnerable to disease.

Fear Fear diminishes the ability of the immune

system, meaning that someone who is operating in chronic fear is extremely vulnerable to

disease.

While a smaller level of fear is healthy, protecting you from danger, it is when it

becomes overpowering, dominating your life, that it becomes a negative force.

Fear and disharmony are often interconnected.

Fear and anxiety in your life produces disharmony.

On the other side of the equation disharmony generates fear.

When these two are working together, it doubly impacts the bodys immune system and energetic

matrix, meaning that illness is inevitable.

Paracelsus, a renaissance physician, was quoted almost 500 years ago saying, The fear of

disease is more dangerous than the disease itself.

Soul Loss Of the 3 main root causes, Shamans believe

that soul loss is the most dangerous.

The concept of soul loss implies that a person has suffered a serious wound to their inner

heart.

This inner heart is a persons essence, the basis of who and what they are.

A wound, causing soul loss, is the result of fragmentation of this essence.

There are countless potential causes of soul loss, such as a bitter divorce, rape or assault,

a traumatic car accident, or a serious injury.

Soldiers who have gone to war run a high risk of returning having suffered terrible soul

loss.

Labelled by modern medicine as post-traumatic stress disorder, they are deeply traumatized

at the soul level by the events that occurred while at war.

What are the symptoms of soul loss?

Soul loss is easy to recognize if you are aware of the signs.

Here is a checklist of some of the more classic signs and symptoms:

An inability to make decisions Emotional remoteness

A lack of joy Chronic negativity

A failure to thrive Feelings of being fragmented, or not being

all here Addictions

An inability to feel love, or to receive love from another

A lack of initiative or enthusiasm Blocked memory, inability to remember parts

of ones life Melancholy or Despair

Chronic Depression Suicidal Tendencies

An inability to discriminate A sudden onset of apathy or listlessness

What can we do to fix the problem?

The most important problem to focus on is the loss of power to protect oneself from

the intrusion.

This could be intrusion from a virus, or from negative thoughts.

The second most important problem is the inability to get rid of said intruders once they are

present.

The best way to fix these 2 problems is to view the negative thoughts in the same way

that you would view an arrow.

You need to recognized, and acknowledge, that they do not belong there, and gently remove

them from your body.

Shaman believe that to bring about healing of the 3 main root causes, you must find your

3 inner cures.

Find your own balance, find your own courage, and find your own truth.

Love Transforms And Transmutes All Lower Vibrations - Duration: 4:39.

Love Transforms And Transmutes All Lower Vibrations

by Deane Thomas,

Love Transcends History!

I am reminded today, of all days, a day and time in my own life, when I truly connected

with pure love energy of two incredible souls.

An energy I have never experienced in my life, and one that I have come to accept as part

of me.

We are all energy, we are all love, and there is nothing that anyone can do to destroy that

purity.

I am love, I am worthy and once that flame is ignited it will never extinguish, that

is the power of love.

Remembering is an amazing gift we all possess, especially when love is concerned.

When one connects with those that transform our lives, in the name of unconditional love,

we tend to have a permanent imprint embedded in our psyche, and our soul.

Almost like a date stamp and one, no matter how much we try to avoid it, that essence

keeps appearing.

Modern man and science label this as an obsession, or unrequited love but as we know science

has so many unknown answers and tends to stigmatize what it doesnt comprehend.

A failing of science perhaps, but one that many in humanity can feel on a daily basis.

That essence is pure love, it is an essence that is within us, and one that only a few

can acknowledge and understand.

Many run from this love essence because their ego recognizes that a transformation is about

to take place.

A transformation to our birthright, to our very existence on this planet.

Millenia of conditioning and programming is not going to interfere with a being that truly

believes in that essence which they are.

Pure love will always transcend, fear, greed, and hatred as well as any lower vibration

that has been implanted in our psyche.

An old English expression You may run, but you cannot hide, so resonant of the

love within me today.

We Are All Love!

Each of us possesses pure love inside; only a few will begin to explore that essence,

mainly because the mind is at odds with the heart.

The love flows through our veins and becomes a way of lifelove transforms and transmutes

all lower vibrations.

Love heals and soothes all the experiences we have ever endured in this and many other

lifetimes.

If you open your heart and soul to the vibration of love and enter into the realms of serenity

and the unknown, this is when life changes and becomes magical.

As many struggles with the transformation, and continue to battle their very existence

on this planetwe, as the holders of the light will guide you to your inner sanctuary,

to your inner calling.

We will guide you home, and help you on your journey to the unknown, for that is our duty

and responsibility to help humanity to transform to a new vibration.

I am blessed with so many loving memories and ones which will live with me always and

forever because I choose love over fear.

Thank you for reading and taking the time to share this moment with me.

I love you unconditionally and am here, should you choose to also open the door to your heart

and soul.

You are worthy, and an amazing beautiful soul, that also can feel what I feel too!

The Top 10 Safest Countries To Be In If World War 3 Breaks Out - Duration: 3:06.

The Top 10 Safest Countries To Be In If World War 3 Breaks Out

The world is certainly getting more lethal as military technologies advance.

Countries are getting tense as times go on, and world war 3 is starting to look more and

more inevitable.

Where will you be?

Word War 3 is definitely a fearsome topic.

The previous world wars were tragic and disastrous in themselves, and I can only imagine how

bad it would be with the technology and weaponry we have today.

With the acquirement of nuclear warfare, we might all be doomed.

If a country was to drop a nuclear bomb, youd die immediately in the explosion if its

close to you.

If not, youll soon die from the exposure to radiation and contamination.

So it seems the best reassurance to have in the event of world war three is that youre

in a safe place.

The world leaders will obviously be a bad place to be hiding during the third world

war.

They will be the direct targets of rivaling countries and you dont want to be caught

in the middle.

That means that youre probably going to want to avoid the United States, United Kingdom,

China, and Russia and dont go anywhere in the middle east.

That would most likely be a death sentence.

If you are worried about your world war three fate, these are the safest countries to be

in during the collapse you might want to hurry and make a move.

GOOD MORNING TO EVERYBODY.

I ALSO WANTS TO EXTEND MY

WELCOME TO THOMAS AND OUR

REALLY, AN EXTRAORDINARY DAY

TODAY.

WE ARE HERE TO HONOR PROFESSOR

EUGENE PARKER, WHO IS THE

UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO EMER

ADVERTISE PROFESSOR IN

ASTRONOMY AND PHYSICS.

GENE PARKER WAS A IN THE ROCKY

FERMI INSTITUTE IN 1958, WHEN

HE PREDICTED THE EXISTENCE OF

THE SOLAR WIND.

IT WAS A FUNDAMENTAL INSIGHT

THAT FOREVER CHANGED WAY IN

WHICH WE UNDERSTOOD THE SUN,

THE HELIOSPHERE AND IN GENERAL

INTER-KUAN TEARY SPACE.

TO GIVE YOU WHAT AN IDEA THIS

WAS, UNTIL THIS DISCOVERY, THE

PREDICTION OF THE SOLAR WIND

BY PROFESSOR PARKER,

SCIENTISTS REGARDED SPACE

BETWEEN PLAN ETC. OUTSIDE OF

THE HELIO FAIR AS ESSENTIALLY

A VACUUM.

THIS WAS A TRANSFORMATIVE IDEA

AT THE TIME AND THIS AND OTHER

PROJECTS THAT PROFESSOR PARKER

LED, LED TO DEFINE WHAT IS

CALLED HELIOPHYSICS AND THE

STUDY OF THE SUN WHEN THE IDEA

FIRST CAME OUT THERE WAS A LOT

OF OPPOSITION, WHAT I CALL

REVOLUTIONARY IDEA.

IT WAS QUITE STRONG.

HIS FIRST PAPER, WHICH WAS

SUBMITTED TO THE STRIKE TWO

PHYSICAL JOURNAL WAS REJECTED

BY ITS TWO REFEREES.

THE PAPER, INTERESTINGLY

ENOUGH, WAS SAVED BY ANOTHER

COLLEAGUE OF OURS, PROFESSOR

CHANDRASEKHAR WHO SPENT

SIGNATURE YEARS AT THE

UNIVERSITY AS A FACULTY MEMBER

AND RECEIVED THE 1983 NOBEL

PRIZE IN PHYSICS.

CHANDRA UNDERSTOOD THAT

IMPORTANT INSIGHTS INTO THE

NATURE OF THE UNIVERSITY AND

TO SCIENCE IN GENERAL WERE NOT

ALWAYS WARMLY WELCOMED AT

FIRST.

IN FACT, CHANDRA HIMSELF HAD

BEEN RIDICULED WHEN HE, A

GENERATION EARLIER, HAD

PREDICTED THAT NASA STARS,

MUCH MORE MASSIVE THAN OUR SUN

COULD COLLAPSE INTO WHAT WE

CALLED BLACK HOLES.

THE PAPER WAS PUBLISHED AND

PROFESSOR PARKER'S THEORY WAS

CONFIRMED BY DIRECT

OBSERVATION OF THE SOLAR WINDS

AND THE REST IS HISTORY.

PROFESSOR PARKER GAME THE

CHANDRASEKHAR DISTINGUISHED

SERVICE PROFESSOR AND NA 1999

THEY NAMED THEIR FLAGSHIP

WE CONTINUE OUR PARTNERSHIP

WITH NASA AND SCIENTISTS

AROUND THE COUNTRY AND AROUND

THE WORLD.

THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU, ERIC.

TODAY'S EVENT WAS ALMOST 60

YEARS IN THE MAKING.

IN OCTOBER OF 1958, UNIVERSITY

OF CHICAGO PROFESSOR JOHN

SIMPSON CONVENED A PHYSICS

PARTICLES IN SPACE COMMITTEE

AT THE SPACE SCIENCE BOARD.

RIGHT HERE ON CAMPUS IN 1958,

THE SPACE SCIENCE BOARD

ULTIMATELY ADVISED NASA, THE

DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE, AND THE

NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION ON

ASPECTS OF INTERPLANETARY

PROBES AND.

SPACE STATIONS.

POTENTIAL PROBLEMS OF MANNED

SPACE FLIGHT, THE EXPLORATION

OF VENUS AND MARS, AND OTHER

SPACE-RELATED MATTERS.

THEY ALSO ADDED A LIST OF

LONG-RANGE PLANS FOR

PARTICULARLY INTERESTING

RESEARCH.

THAT LIST INCLUDED A SOLAR

PROBE TO STUDY PARTICLES AND

FIELD IN THE VICINITY OF THE

SUN.

SINCE THAT FIRST MEETING OF

THE SIMPSON COMMITTEE, THE

SOLAR PROBE HAS REMAINED AT

THE TOP OF VARIOUS NATIONAL

ACADEMY AND NASA SCIENCE

POLICY LISTS.

SO IT'S VERY APPROPRIATE THAT

WE ARE HERE IN CHICAGO TODAY

TO HONOR GENE PARKER, WHOSE

GROUND-BREAKING WORK RESHAPED

OUR VISION OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM

AND SET THIS ENTIRE ENDEAVOR

IN MOTION.

IN THE SIXTH DECADE SINCE

EUGENE PARKER'S DISCOVERY OF

THE SOLAR WIND, WE HAVE MADE

TREMENDOUS GAINS IN OUR

KNOWLEDGE OF SOLAR AND SPACE

PHYSICS.

THROUGH NASA's MISSIONS TO

SPACE, WE HAVE INVESTIGATED

THE COMPOSITION, PROPERTIES,

AND STRUCTURE OF THE SOLAR

WIND.

WE HAVE CAPTURED INCREDIBLY

DETAILED IMAGES OF THE SUN'S

CORONA.

WE HAVE ADVANCED OUR KNOWLEDGE

IN WAYS THAT THE COMMITTEE

MIGHT NOT HAVE DREAMED OF.

AND YET SO MANY FUNDAMENTAL

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SOLAR WIND

REMAIN UNANSWERED.

SIX DECADES AGO, EUGENE PARKER

ASKED A FUNDAMENTAL QUESTION

ABOUT THE STRUCTURE OF THE

SUN'S CORONA.

THAT QUESTION LED HIM TO

PREDICT THE EXISTENCE OF THE

SOLAR WIND, AND PERMANENTLY

TRANSFORM THE WAY WE THINK OF

SPACE.

TODAY WE CELEBRATE THE

PROFOUND QUESTION THAT HE

ASKED AND THE BRILLIANT AND

CREATIVITY WITH WHICH HE

ANSWERED IT.

BUT EVEN MORE IMPORTANTLY, WE

CELEBRATE THE QUESTIONS THAT

FLOWED FROM THAT FIRST ANSWER.

QUESTIONS THAT HAVE LED US

THROUGH SIX DECADES TO THIS

HISTORIC MISSION.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO FINDING

ANSWERS TO THOSE QUESTIONS

THROUGH THE DATA THAT THE

SOLAR PROBE WILL SEND TO US.

BUT EVEN MORE, WE LOOK FORWARD

TO NEW QUESTIONS THAT WILL

ARISE FROM THOSE ANSWERS,

WHICH WILL POINT US TO YET

MORE EXCITING DISCOVERIES.

THANK YOU.

[APPLAUSE]

>> WE WOULD NOW LIKE TO SHARE

WITH YOU A VIDEO ABOUT GENE

PARKER AND THE IMPRESSIVE WORK

THAT HAS BROUGHT US HERE

TODAY.

[♪♪♪]

>> THE PRIMARY PUZZLE IN THE

UNIVERSE BECAUSE IT'S THE ONE

STAR WE CAN OBSERVE IN DETAIL

AND STARS ARE COMPLICATED

THINGS.

WE CAN'T IMAGINE ALL THE

STRANGE THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN

DISCOVERED IN THE SUN.

AS A CHILD, I ENJOYED VERY

MUCH HOW THINGS WORKED.

WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL, I

TOOK PHYSICS COURSE MY LAST

YEAR AND REALIZED HOW

FASCINATED I WAS.

WHEN I FIRST STUMBLED ACROSS

THE MATHMATIC THAT ESTABLISHED

THE SOLAR WIND, IT WAS 1957.

I WAS 30 YEARS OLD.

FOUR LINES OF ALGEBRA IN MY

FIRST TWO OR THREE PAPERS ON

THE SOLAR WIND, THE SOLAR WIND

DOES NOT APPEAR.

I TALKED ABOUT SOLAR CORE PUSK

LAR RADIATION AND THEN I

REALIZED IT'S A SLOW GAS AND

THEN IT HIT ME, SOLAR WIND.

WHEN I WROTE THE FIRST PAPER,

AS FAR AS I WAS CONCERNED, IT

WAS OPEN AND SHUT.

I CAN REMEMBER HOW UPSET THE

REFEREE WAS THAT

CHANDRASEKHAR, THE EDITOR SENT

MY FIRST PAPER TO.

HE SAID "THIS IS RIDICULOUS.

BEFORE YOU WRITE A SCIENTIFIC

PAPER, YOU SHOULD AT LEAST

TAKE THE TROUBLE OF GOING TO

THE LIBRARY AND READING UP ON

THE SUBJECT."

NO FURTHER CRITICISM.

NO FURTHER COMMENT.

MY RESPONSE TO CHANDRASEKHAR

WAS, WELL, HE COULDN'T FIND

ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT, SO IT

MUST BE PRETTY GOOD.

I ALWAYS LOOKED UPON MYSELF AS

A PHYSICIST, LEARNING NEW

TRICKS BY LOOKING AT NATURE.

THE SPACE, THE WHOLE GALAXY,

THE WHOLE UNIVERSE.

I KNOW NO BETTER PLACE TO FIND

NEW PHYSICS.

>> I'M REALLY EXCITED TO BE

HERE TODAY.

FOR TWO REASONS.

FIRST OF ALL, THIS IS ONE OF

MY FAVORITE CITIES.

MY WIFE GREW UP HERE.

I SPENT A LOT OF TIME HERE AT

THE CHRISTMASES, HOLIDAYS AND

RESTAURANTS AROUND TOWN.

I'M GLAD TO BE BACK.

MORE IMPORTANTLY I'M EXCITED

TO BE HERE BECAUSE OF YOU,

GENE AND EVERYTHING YOU HAVE

DONE FOR THIS AMAZING FIELD OF

SCIENCE THAT I'M PART OF AT

NASA.

WHAT I'D LIKE TO DO IS REALLY

POINT TO THE FACT, OF COURSE,

THAT THE WAY WE LOOK AT THE

SCIENCE TODAY THROUGH THE MANY

TELESCOPES OUT THERE AS A

RESULT OF THE WORK THAT YOU

HAVE DONE, GENE, NATURE HAS

BECOME MORE BEAUTIFUL.

MORE COMPLEX, JUST LIKE YOU

SAID.

BUT MORE BEAUTIFUL.

I LOOK AT THIS AMAZING IMAGE

BY ONE OF THE RECENT NASA

MISSIONS.

YOU ALSO POINTED OUT, OF

COURSE, THE WAY THE STAR

INTERACTING WITH THE CORONA

MASS EJECTION AS MEASURED BY

STEREO.

BUT THAT THESE TAILS INDICATE

THERE ARE FAST WINDS.

THESE FAST WINDS, OF COURSE,

PEOPLE COULDN'T IMAGINE.

WHAT THEY THOUGHT ABOUT WAS

THAT THE SUN WAS SLOWLY A

REALLY SMALL KIND OF FREEZE

WOULD HAPPEN.

OH, NO.

THAT SPACE BETWEEN THE PLANETS

IS A LOT MORE EXCITING WITH A

LOT MORE SCIENCE GOING ON THAN

ANYBODY PREDICTED.

OF COURSE, JUST A FEW YEARS

LATER, YOUR PREDICTION WAS

CONFIRMED, WITH MARINER II.

IT WAS OUTSIDE OF THE EARTH

AND HOW THE SUPERSONIC SOLAR

WINDS, JUST LIKE YOU SAID, OF

APPROXIMATELY THE TEMPERATURE

THAT YOU HAVE SAID, A LITTLE

BIT LESS, PERHAPS THAN YOU

SAID IN YOUR INITIAL PAPER.

IF I HAD TO WRITE A PAPER THAT

THAT'S ACCURATE, I'D BE REALLY

GLAD.

THE SPACECRAFT AND SUBSEQUENT

SPACECRAFT, THEY ALSO OBSERVED

THE MAGNETIC FIELD SHAPE THAT

WAS LATER IN THE SHAME PAPER

THAT YOU PREDICTED, THE

MAGNETIC FIELD WE REFER TO AS

THE PARKER MAGNETIC FIELD.

IT'S THAT OBSERVATION THAT

WAS ALSO MADE.

SO REALLY CREATING -- MAKING

THIS IS HUGE HOMELAND.

ONE OF THE BIGGEST

DISCOVERIES, I BELIEVE, IN

SOLAR AND SPACE AND

HELIOPHYSICS, AS YOU POINTED

OUT.

ONCE YOU HAVE THIS SOLAR WIND,

AND YOU KNOW YOU HAVE A GUESS

ABOUT THE MAGNETIC FIELD AND

THE STRUCTURE OF THE GALAXY,

WHICH IS ANOTHER SUBJECT AREA

YOU FOCUSED ON.

THE RECOGNITION THAT THERE IS

MAGNETIC FIELDS OUT THERE AND

THIS UNIVERSE IS NOT JUST

GRAVITATIONAL, IT'S MAGNETIC.

ONCE YOU KNOW THAT SOLAR WIND,

YOU CAN GUESS HOW BIG THAT

BUBBLE IS, THAT SPACE THAT

IT'S FILLED BY THE SUN.

WE REFER TO IT AS THE

HELIOSPHERE.

ONLY ABOUT FIVE YEARS AGO, IF

YOU CROSS THROUGH THAT

BOUNDARY INTO OUR GALACTIC

AREA, HIS COLLEAGUES HAVE DONE

AMAZING WORK WITH HIM AND

BASICALLY RIGHT NOW ON THE

OUTSIDE OF ONE OF THESE

MISSIONS, WE BELIEVE, LOOKING

AT FOR THE FIRST TIME THAT

GALACTIC ENVIRONMENT.

AGAIN, A MAGNETIC GALACTIC

ENVIRONMENT OF TYPE YOU

PREDICTED, AND THAT IS FROM

THE INSIDE.

GOING BACK TO OUR NEAREST

ENVIRONMENT, OF COURSE, WHAT

WE HAVE RIGHT NOW, THESE

MISSIONS OUT THERE, WE CALL

THEM MAGNETOSPHERE AND THEY

SERVE IMPORTANT PROCESS THAT

YOU TALKED ABOUT REALLY EARLY

ON.

THE SWEEP, YOU TALKED ABOUT

THE MERGING OF MAGNETIC FIELDS

AND THE IMPORTANCE IF THESE

MAGNETIC FIELDS IN FACT

COALESCED AND WE CONNECTED.

WE TALKED ABOUT THAT

RECONNECTION.

ONLY JUST A COUPLE OF YEARS

AGO, OR EVEN THIS YEAR, THE

NEW SCIENCE PAPERS OUT THERE

THAT TALK ABOUT THE FIRST

REALLY, MULTIPLYING THE

PROCESSES, PROCESSES THAT ARE

IMPORTANT.

NOT ONLY WHERE WE OBSERVE

THEM, BUT UNIVERSAL BECAUSE WE

OBSERVE THESE PROCESSES AROUND

ASTRO PHYSICAL OBJECTS AND

MANY PLANETS AND PLACES IN THE

UNIVERSE.

THAT'S ANOTHER WORLD CUP OF

THE SEMINAL PAPERS.

GOING BACK TO THE SUN.

WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED HOW

AMAZING THE SUN LOOKS.

LOOKING THROUGH THE EYES OF

SOMEBODY WHO UNDERSTANDS THERE

IS MAGNETIC FIELDS THERE.

THE CORONA, THE ATMOSPHERE OF

THE SUN, OF COURSE, IS HEATED

TO A TEMPERATURE MUCH HIGHER

THAN THE SURFACE OF THE SUN.

PROCESSES WERE STILL TRYING TO

LEARN ABOUT IT.

YOU WROTE A PAPER THAT

BASICALLY TALKED ABOUT

MICROSCOPIC NANO TYPE OF

HEATING EVENTS THAT WOULD BE

AT THE HEART OF THAT HEATING.

AMAZING STRUCTURES WE SEE

THERE.

THERE IS A LOT OF EVIDENCE IN

PAPERS AND LITERATURE EVEN

TODAY THAT POINTED THAT THIS

IS MUCH MORE LIKELY THAN WE

EVER WOULD HAVE THOUGHT.

THAT IS REALLY WHERE THE

CULMINATION, I BELIEVE, OF THE

RESEARCH WE HAVE BEEN DOING IN

THIS FIELD.

SOLAR AND HELIOSPHERIC AND IN

GENERAL.

THAT IS ABOUT THE SOLAR PROBE

MISSION.

WE WANT TO GO DOWN THERE, TAKE

THE CHALLENGE OF GOING AND SEE

WHERE THE THERMAL ENVIRONMENT

IN THE SOLAR SYSTEM.

BECAUSE WE BUILT THE MACHINES.

MEASURE THE ENVIRONMENT THERE

AND REALLY PROVE AND FIND WHAT

THE HEAT PROCESSES ARE THAT

REALLY MAKE THE CORONA UP AND

ACCELERATE THE SOLAR WIND.

NOW, AS NAMED ABOUT 20

SPACECRAFT ABOUT DISTINGUISHED

RESEARCHERS LIKE -- ALL OF

THEM WITH CHICAGO AND MANY

OTHERS, 20, NOT MANY.

THERE ARE MORE PRIZE WINNERS

THAN PEOPLE WHO HAVE

SPACECRAFT NAMED AFTER THEM.

THERE ARE ABOUT 20.

NASA HAS NEVER NAMED A

SPACECRAFT AFTER RESEARCHER

DURING THEIR LIFETIME.

WELL, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.

WE ARE ABOUT TO MAKE HISTORY.

IT IS MY GREAT HONOR A FEW

DAYS BEFORE YOUR 90th

BIRTHDAY, GENE, TO ANNOUNCE

THAT WE ARE RENAMING THE SOLAR

PROBE PLUS SPACECRAFT TO BE

KNOWN FROM NOW ON AS THE

PARKER SOLAR PROBE.

CONGRATULATIONS.

[APPLAUSE]

>> THANK YOU.

REALLY APPRECIATE IT.

[APPLAUSE]

>> I WROTE MY SPEECH DOWN

HERE.

I DON'T INTEND TO REITERATE

WHAT YOU HAVE ALREADY HEARD

PLENTY OF.

BUT I'M CERTAINLY GREATLY

HONORED TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH

SUCH A HEROIC, SCIENTIFIC

SPACE MISSION.

BY HEROIC, OF COURSE, I'M

REFERRING TO THE TEMPERATURE.

THERMAL RADIATION FROM THE SUN

AND THE EXTREME MEASURES

DEVELOPED TO SURVIVE THAT

RADIATION AND COLLECT

SCIENTIFIC DATA SHOULD BE

FULLY APPRECIATED.

YOU HAVE HEARD THE NAME OF THE

SPACECRAFT IN EARLIER LECTURE,

SO I'M SURE IT WAS NOT EASY

AND I THOUGHT I WOULD RUN

THROUGH THE TWO MAIN EFFECTS.

FOR INSTANCE, THE INITIAL

DEVELOPMENT OF SOLAR PROBE

CONCEPT OF J.P.L. SHOWED THE

EXTREME TECHNICAL POSSIBILITY

OF A SPACECRAFT SURVIVING AN

ORBITAL PLUNGE INTO SOLAR

RADIATION.

J.P.L. WENT FOR BROKE AND THEY

DESIGNED A FABULOUS SPACECRAFT

THIS IS WHAT GRABS ME.

THE SUNLIGHT IS 3,000 TIMES

MORE INTENSE AT 4 SOLAR RADAII

AS IT IS AT EARTH.

IT'S SOMETHING AMAZING.

ONLY RESTRICTED INSTRUMENTS

WILL SURVIVE BECAUSE THE

SPACECRAFT SERVES AS A HEAT

SHIELD AND DO YOU NOT DARE

POKE ANYTHING OUT FROM BEHIND

THAT HEAT SHIELD TO MAKE A

MEASUREMENT.

THERE ARE SOME EXCEPTIONS TO

THAT, WHICH ARE VERY LIMITED.

THE NEXT PROBLEM WAS SOLAR

PROBE PLUS, AS YOU ALL KNOW,

THE APPLIED PHYSICS LABORATORY

DESIGNED FOR A SLOW APPROACH,

INWARD TO 9 SOLAR RADII, WHERE

THE SUN IS ONLY 570 TIMES MORE

INTENSE THAN IT IS HERE.

AND IT IS POSSIBLE TO RATE A

COMPLIMENT OF INSTRUMENTS

PEEKING OUT FROM BEHIND THE

HEAT SHIELD FOR AN EXTENDED

PERIOD OF TIME.

ONE OF THE DRAW BACKS OF THE

ORIGINAL SOLAR PROBE WAS THAT

IT'S ALL OVER IN A FEW HOURS

AT 4 SOLAR RADII.

AS A THEORETICIAN, I ADMIRE

THE SCIENTISTS WHOSE PATIENT

EFFORTS CONVERTED THE SOLAR

PROBE CONCEPT INTO A

FUNCTIONING REALITY READY TO

DO BATTLE WITH THE SOLAR

ELEMENTS AS IT DIVULGES THE

SECRETS OF THE EXPANDING

CORONA.

HOORAY FOR SOLAR PROBES.

[APPLAUSE]

>> WOW.

JUST WOW.

I AM NIKI FOX AND I AM SO

HONORED TO STAND HERE TODAY

REPRESENTING THE SOLAR PROBE

TEAM.

THIS ISN'T JUST THE TEAM, BUT

BUILDING THIS PARTICULAR

MISSION, BUT I REALLY FEEL

IT'S THE THOUSANDS AND

THOUSANDS OF RESEARCHERS WHO

POURED THEIR HEART AND SOUL

INTO INTO MAKING THIS REALITY

OVER THE LAST 60 YEARS.

THIS WILL BE THE HOTTEST,

FASTEST MISSION.

I LIKE TO CALL IT THE COOLEST

MISSION UNDER THE SUN.

WE ARE GOING TO BE MOVING IN

EXTREME TEMPERATURES.

WE WILL GO RIGHT UP INTO THE

CORONA.

AS YOU HAVE HEARD, OF THE

REVOLUTIONLY WORK OF PARKER

FROM AS FAR BACK AS 19 TBLAI,

STILL WE HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO

ANSWER KEY QUESTIONS.

THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY

MATHEMATICIANS WHO HAVE MADE

TREMENDOUS ADVANCES, WE HAVE

BEEN INSIDE THE ORBIT OF

MERCURY.

WE HAVE DONE AMAZING THINGS.

UNTIL YOU GO THERE AND TOUCH

THE SUN, YOU REALLY CAN'T

ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS.

THESE QUESTIONS ARE SO SIMPLE.

WHY IS THE CORONA HOTTER THAN

THE SURFACE OF THE SUN?

THAT DEFIES THE LAWS OF

NATURE.

IT'S GOING GOING UP HILL, IT

SHOULDN'T HAPPEN.

WHY IN THIS REGION DOES THE

SOLAR ATMOSPHERE ENERGIZE

WHETHER IT ESCAPES THE SUN.

WE HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO

ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS WITHOUT

TAKING A PROBE INTO THE SUNNEN

WE'LL BE MOVING AT BLISTERING

SPEEDS.

WE WILL BE MOVING AT

430,000 MILES AN HOUR.

THAT'S ABOUT 118 MILES A

SECOND.

WOULDN'T YOU ENJOY YOUR

MORNING COMMUTE AT THAT SPEED?

WE'LL BE SEVEN TIMES CLOSER

THAN ANY OTHER MISSION HAS

EVER BEEN.

WE WILL REPEATEDLY SWEEP

THROWP THE CORONA MAKING THESE

MEASUREMENTS.

WHY HAS IT TAKEN US 60 YEARS

TO BE ABLE TO DO IT?

HONESTLY THE MATERIALS DIDN'T

EXIST TO DO IT.

THE VERY FIRST THING WE HAD TO

DO IS MAKE A HEAT SHIELD.

WE LOVE OUR HEAT SHIELD.

OUR HEAT SHIELD WAS DEVELOPED

USING NASA RESEARCH MONEY, LED

BY J.P.L. WITH THE SCHOOL AT

JOHNS HOPKINS AND MANY OTHER

CONTRIBUTORS WHO DESIGNED A

CARBON-COMPOSITE SHIELD TO NOT

ONLY WITHSTAND THE HEAT, WE GO

HOT AND THEN COLD, HOT THEN

COLD, GETTING SOMETHING TO

WITHSTAND THAT IS

REVOLUTIONARY.

WE DESIGNED A NEW SOLAR PANEL

TO KEEP THEM COOL.

THAT ACTS AS A SHOULDER JOINT

AS WE MOVE IN AND OUT AS WE GO

CLOSE AND FURTHER AWAY FROM

THE SUN.

JUST A LITTLE FINGER TIP POKED

OUT FROM THE SOLAR PANELS

GENERATES ENOUGH SOLAR ENERGY

TO OPERATE THE MISSION.

RIGHT NOW, THE SPACECRAFT IS

BEING BUILT AND TESTED AND PUT

THROUGH A LOT OF RIGOROUS

TESTING TO BE SURE WE CAN

WITHSTAND THAT ENVIRONMENT.

WE'LL BE GOING INTO THE

CORONA.

AS YOU HEARD THE TEMPERATURES

CAN GET UP TO A COUPLE OF

MILLION DEGREES.

WE ARE NOT GOING QUITE THAT

CLOSE BUT WE'LL BE AT

2500-DEGREES FAHRENHEIT.

THE INSTRUMENT IN THE SHADOW

BEHIND THE HEAT SHIELD WILL BE

OPERATING AT ABOUT THE

TEMPERATURE OF THIS ROOM, ROOM

TEMPERATURE.

WE ARE BUILDING IT, WE ARE

TESTING IT.

WE HAVE A COUPLE OF THE

INSTRUMENTS ALREADY INTO

PLACE.

BY THE SUMMER MOST OF THEM

WILL BE ON.

IT IS MY PLEASURE TO BE ABLE

TO INTRODUCE YOU TO

REPRESENTATIVES OF OUR SCIENCE

TEAM, INVESTIGATING THE

PAYLOADS.

IN THE ORDER YOU ARE SITTING

I'LL YOU ON INTRODUCE CUSS

CONTINUE CASPAR FROM THE

UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN.

HE IS ALSO A CHICAGO ALUM, BY

THE WAY.

STEWART BELL FROM THE

UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO --

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA.

SORRY.

UNIVERSITY OF

CALIFORNIA-BERKELEY.

AND FROM PRINCETON UNIVERSITY.

AND FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF

CALIFORNIA-LOS ANGELES.

LAST BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST,

PROFESSOR HOWARD FROM THE

RESEARCH LAB.

SO TOGETHER, USING A VARIETY

AND WE WILL FINALLY ANSWER

THESE QUESTIONS.

I ALSO WANT TO INTRODUCE ONE

MORE PERSONNEN I CALL HIM THE

MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN.

HE KEEPS US GOING ON SCHEDULE

AND ON BUDGET AND NEVER LETS

THEM TAKE A VACATION.

[APPLAUSE]

SO WHAT IS NEXT?

WE ARE BUILDING, TESTING AND

DEVELOPING INSTRUMENTS.

IN THE END OF THE YEAR WE WILL

MOVE WHERE WE WILL DO FINAL

TESTING, NA NERVE-RACKING

ENVIRONMENT WHERE WE MAKE SURE

EVERYTHING WILL WORK IN THAT

ENVIRONMENTS.

FROM THERE WE GO ON TO

FLORIDA.

WE LAUNCH AND WE HAVE A THIRD

STAGE.

THAT'S BECAUSE WE NEED TO BE

MOVING SO FAST SO THAT WE CAN

BURST [NO AUDIO]

>> MANY OF YOU ARE USED TO

HEARING ABOUT GRAVITY.

WE ACCELERATE THE PROBE.

WE ARE VERY GENEROUS.

WE ARE GIVING ENERGY TO VENUS.

WE ARE USING THE VENUS FLYBY

TO TRIM AND REALLY PRECISION

OF WHERE WE NEED TO BE TO MAKE

US YOU ACTUALLY HIT OUR SOLAR

ORBITAL TARGET.

EIGHT WEEKS AFTER THAT WE WILL

ENCOUNTER THE SUN FOR THE

FIRST TIME.

WE WILL DO OUR FIRST APPROACH.

FOLLOWING THAT WE WILL DO

ANOTHER SIX VENUS FLYBYS IN

JUST UNDER SEVEN YEARS.

WE GRADUALLY GET CLOSER AND

CLOSER AND IN TOWARD THE SUN

UNTIL WE ARE JUST UNDER

4 MILLION MILES OF 10 SOLAR

RADII.

THAT MAY NOT SOUND THAT CLOSE

TO YOU.

IF THE EARTH AND THE SUN WERE

SEPARATED BY 1 METER, IT IS

ACTUALLY VERY, VERY CLOSE.

IN FACT, SO CLOSE THAT WE'LL

BE IN A REGION THAT YOU,

YOURSELF, MAY BE ABLE TO SEE

THIS SUMMER.

DURING A TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE,

YOU ARE ABLE TO SEE THE HAZY

CORONA AROUND THE SUN.

AUGUST 21st, THE FIRST TIME

IN 100 YEARS, THERE WILL BE A

TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE VISIBLE

FROM THE U.S.A.

WHEN YOU LOOK UP AND SEE THE

ECLIPSE, THE PROBE WILL BE

RIGHT IN THERE.

NOT ONLY ARE WE DOING BASIC

SCIENCE, BUT WE'LL BE APPLYING

CRITICAL INFORMATION TO ALLOW

US TO BETTER KNOW HOW YOUR

EARTH RESPONDS TO THE SUNNEN

WE'LL BE DOING CRITICAL

ADVANCES TO ENABLE US TO

EXPLORE BASE WEATHER.

FOR THAT REASON WE'LL SEND

SOLAR PROBE INTO THE CORONA

AND FINALLY TOUCH THE SUN.

[APPLAUSE]

NASA's PARKER SOLAR PROBE

MISSION IS ABOUT TO EM EMBARK

ON AN HISTORIC JOURNEY TO OUR

VERY OWN STAR.

THE SUN.

NAMED FOR DR. EUGENE M. PARKER

WHOSE CONTRIBUTIONS HAVE

REVOLUTIONIZED OUR

UNDERSTANDING OF THE SUN.

THE PARKER SOLAR PROBE WILL

USHER IN A NEW ERA OF

EXPLORATION.

IT'S A MISSION OF EXTREMES.

THE SPACECRAFT WILL PLUNGE

THROUGH THE SUN'S ATMOSPHERE,

CALLED THE CORONA, AND FLYE

CLOSER TO THE SUN'S SURFACE

THAN ANY SPACECRAFT IN

HISTORY.

MORE THAN SEVEN TIMES CLOSER.

THE SUN'S SURFACE IS HOT.

AT TEMPERATURES EXCEEDING

10,000-DEGREES FAHRENHEIT.

BUT THE REAL SURPRISE IS ITS

ATMOSPHERE IS EVEN HOTTER.

FACING THE CORONA'S BRUTAL

HEAT AND RADIATION CONDITIONS,

PARKER SOLAR PROBE WILL

FINALLY PROVIDE ANSWERS TO

SOME OF THE MOST IMPORTANT

QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW OUR SUN

WORKS.

AS PARKER SOLAR PROBE SPEEDS

AROUND THE SUN MAKING THESE

MEASUREMENTS, IT IS MOVING AT

OVER 430,000 MILES PER HOUR.

THAT'S LIKE TRAVELING FROM NEW

YORK TO TOKYO IN LESS THAN A

MINUTE.

THIS MISSION IS THE

CULMINATION OF 60 YEARS' WORK

BY THE BEST AND BRIGHTEST

SCIENTIFIC AND ENGINEERING

MINDS.

TODAY, OUR TECHNOLOGY WILL LET

US ACHIEVE OUR DREAMS TO

REVEAL THIS SECRET AND OUR SUN

AND TO ONE DAY BETTER PROTECT

TECHNOLOGY FROM THE THREAT OF

SPACE FLARES.

WE WILL LAUNCH THE SOLAR

PROBE, HUMANITY'S FIRST

MISSION TO TOUCH THE SUN.

[APPLAUSE]

>> OKAY, TO ANYONE ASSOCIATED

WITH THAT MISSION.

FOR ME TO SAY THAT WE WILL BE

FLYING AND WE'LL TAKE THE

FRONT OF OF YOU AND YOUR

SEMINAL PAPER.

WE'LL HAVE IT OWE A MOUNTING

PLATE AND WE WOULD LIKE YOU TO

WRITE WHATEVER INSCRIPTION TO

PUT ON THAT PLATE AND SEBD TO

THE SUN.

THE FINAL THING IS GREAT HONOR

AS SA PART OF THE TEAM TO GIVE

YOU THE FIRST MODEL OF THE

PARKER SOLAR PROBE.

[APPLAUSE]

>> WELL, AS I SAY, I'M GREATLY

HONORED TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH

THIS HEROIC, SCIENTIFIC

MISSION.

I WOULD JUST EXAMINING IT.

I GUESS I NEED SOME

INSTRUCTION AS TO WHAT ALL THE

THINGS ARE.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

[APPLAUSE]

>> NOW WE'LL TAKE A FEW

QUESTIONS FROM THE AUDIENCE

AND FROM SOCIAL MEDIA.

PLEASE RAISE YOUR HANDS AND

OUR STAFF WILL COME TO YOU

WITH THE MICROPHONE.

ONCE YOU HAVE THE MICROPHONE,

PLEASE IDENTIFY YOURSELF AND

YOUR AFFILIATION AND THEN ASK

YOUR QUESTION.

YES A QUESTION FROM THIS

GENTLEMAN IN THE FRONT.

IDENTIFY YOURSELF.

>> MY NAME IS ERIC ISAACS.

CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THE KINDS

EVER INSTRUMENTS AND MAYBE

THIS ADDRESSES GENE'S QUESTION

ABOUT WHAT IS ON THE MOLDS.

WHAT ARE THE INSTRUMENTS YOU

HAVE AND WHAT ARE YOUR WILDEST

DREAMS OF WHAT YOU HOPE TO

FIND.

>> NICOA.

>> WE HAVE A FULL COMPLEMENT

OF INSTRUMENTS.

YOU MET THE P.I.

WE HAVE THE BELT PLASMA, THE

BREAD AND BUTTER OF THE SOLAR

WIND, IF YOU WILL.

WE HAVE A COUPLE OF

INSTRUMENTS MEASURING WHAT IS

COMING OUT WE HAVE INSTRUMENTS

POSITIONED IN DIFFERENT

LOCATIONS.

WHATEVER ANGLE, WE'VE GOT IT.

WE HAVE A FULL FLEET OF

MAGNETIC INSTRUMENTS ON THE

BACK HERE, THE ELECTRIC

SHIELD.

ON THE FRONT, WE CAN MAKE A

PLASMA WAVE.

WE HAVE THE PARTICLE SUITE TO

GET THE STUFF THAT COMES WITH

THE FLARES.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST WE HAVE A

WHITE LIGHT IMAGER THAT IS

GOING TO BE TAKING PICTURES OF

THE STRUCTURES THAT WE ARE

ABOUT TO SLIDE THROUGH THAT

WILL HELP US TO PUT IN CONTEXT

WHAT WE ARE SEEING.

>> WE HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION

RIGHT THERE.

>> CHARLE BORGES FROM NBC 5 IN

CHICAGO.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO SEND

THIS INTO THE SUN?

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO TOUCH

THE BASE OF THE SUN AND GO

CLOSELY BY IT AND PRESERVE THE

SATELLITE.

>> WE WILL BRUSH BY IT.

WE ARE NOT GOING RIGHT UP AND

TOUCH IT.

IF YOU IMAGINE, CAN YOU LEARN

SO MUCH FROM LOOKING OUT THE

WINDOW.

YOU CAN SEE THE SUN IS

SHINING, CAN YOU SEE THE BIRDS

ARE SINGING BUT UNTIL YOU GET

OUT YOU DON'T KNOW HOW HOT IT

IS OR HOW WINDY IT IS OR THE

CONDITIONS.

I THINK WE HAVE COME AS FAR AS

WE CAN WITH LOOKING AT

THINGSEN IT'S NOW TIME TO PAY

IT A VISIT.

>> NOW WE'LL TAKE A QUESTION

FROM SOCIAL MEDIA.

WE HAVE A TWEET.

>> WE DO HAVE A TWEET.

WE HAVE A QUESTION FROM GEORGE

WHO WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY ARE

WE ONLY GOING 4 MILLION MILES.

IS THERE A LIMIT OF THE HEAT,

WHAT ARE THE PARAMETERS?

>> THERE ARE A COUPLE OF

THINGS WITH THE HEAT SHIELDS

AND VARIOUS THINGS DESIGNED TO

GO 4 MILL MILES.

THE REASON WE CAN'T GO CLOSER,

AFTER THE SEVETH VENUS

FLYBY, IT WILL BE INSIDE THE

CONVENEUS ORBIT.

WE CAN NO LONGER USE IT TO

TRIM THE ORBIT.

>> OKAY, THANK YOU ALL.

NOW BEFORE WE CLOSE, I BELIEVE

THAT NASA -- THEY HAVEN'T DONE

VERY MUCH.

THEY HAVE A FINAL SPECIAL

RECOGNITION TO PRESENT TO

EUGENE.

WELCOME BACK THOMAS ZURBUCHEN.

[APPLAUSE]

>> CLEAN EX-UP HERE.

BEFORE I DO THAT, I WANT TO

QUICKLY TELL YOU TWO OF MY

PARKER STORIES, SO YOU KNOW

HOW I GOT TO KNOW HIM.

FIRST CONFERENCE I EVER WENT

TO WAS IN SWITZERLAND.

LIKE PEOPLE THERE, MEN THERE,

I WAS IN THE MILITARY.

I GOT A TIME OUT FROM THE

MILITARY TO COME TO THE FIRST

CONFERENCE.

SO I WALKED IN, I WAS ON THE

TRAIN THE WHOLE NIGHT TO

GERMANY.

I WALKED IN THE DOOR AND SAT

DOWN.

SO I DIDN'T KNOW WHO WAS

THERE.

I HAD READ ALL THE PAPERS,

RIGHT?

SO I SAT THERE IN THE

CONFERENCE.

SOME GUY GAVE A TALK.

YOU JUMPED TO YOUR FEET AND

ASKED THE QUESTION, EVERYTHING

WAS QUIET.

LIKE MOMENTARILY, BECAUSE YOU

GOT UP THERE.

YOU ASKED A REALLY GOOD

QUESTION.

YOU WERE REALLY NICE, THE

PREEMINENT PERSON IN THAT

FIELD, YOU DON'T WANT TO GET

QUESTIONS FROM GENE, IF YOU

CAN HELP IT.

HE DID A GOOD JOB.

YOU WERE REALLY NICE TO HIM.

I THOUGHT, WHO IS THIS GUY?

WHY IS EVERYBODY STOPPING AT

GENE PARKER?

THAT'S HOW I MET YOU.

YOU WINTER KNOW, YOU SAW MY

BACK FROM WHERE YOU WERE

SITTING.

ANOTHER STORY.

THAT IS WHEN I INVITED YOU TO

A SEMINARY AT THE UNIVERSITY

OF MICHIGAN I THOUGHT WAS

IMPORTANT THAT STUDENTS SAW

THE KIND OF LEADERS THAT YOU

ARE.

BASICALLY I ASKED YOU IF YOU

WOULD HANG OUT WITH THE

STUDENTS.

YOU WERE GENEROUS WITH YOUR

TIME, JUST LIKE THE FIRST

CONFERENCE WHEN WE MET.

THE TIME YOU SPENT THERE, I

BASICALLY ASKED YOU HOW DO I

INTRODUCE YOU, GENE?

I COULD TALK WHAT THINGS WE

TALK ABOUT HERE.

HOW DO I INTRODUCE YOU?

YOU SAID, I HOPE YOU INTRODUCE

ME LIKE THIS.

I DID MY GRAD SCHOOL, COULDN'T

FIND A JOB.

WENT TO FAW BECAUSE THAT'S THE

ONLY PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY

OFFERED ME ONE.

DUE TO A FRIEND, GOT BACK TO

CHICAGO, WROTE PAPERS I

COULDN'T GET PUBLISHED.

DUE TO ANOTHER FRIEND, I

FINALLY GOT THEM PUBLISHED.

THEN THE REST WAS PRETTY GOOD.

SEE WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THIS.

I SAID WHY WOULD YOU WANT ME

TO INTRODUCE YOU THAT WAY?

THESE STUDENTS NEED TO KNOW

EVEN IF YOU ARE SUCCESSFUL,

IT'S GOING TO BE HARD FROM

TIME TO TIME.

MANY OF THE MOST IMPORTANT

SCIENCE DISCOVERIES THAT WE

HAVE ARE A LITTLE BIT

CONTROVERSIAL AT THE

BEGINNING.

OR VERY, VERY, VERY

CONTROVERSIAL.

THOSE ARE TWO OF MY ANECDOTES

I WANT TO TALK ABOUT.

THE NEXT THING I WILL ASK YOU,

STEVE CLARK, THE DIVISION

DIRECTOR OF HELIO SYSTEMS

DECIDES TO COME UP.

WHAT I WANT TO DO IS TALK TO

YOU ABOUT THE DISTINGUISHED

PUBLIC SERVICE MEDAL FROM

NASA.

IT'S THE HIGHEST FORM OF

RECOGNITION AWARDED BY NASA TO

AN INDIVIDUAL WHO IS NOT A

GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE.

IT'S AWARDED BASED ON THE

MERIT OF THAT PERSON, ON THE

EXCELLENCE TOWARDS NASA AND

IT'S THAT MEDAL THAT WE WOULD

LIKE TO GIVE TO YOU NOW.

WHAT I AM GOING TO DO IS READ

THE DEDICATION THAT IS SIGNED

BY THE ADMINISTRATOR.

THIS IS ONLY THE ADMINISTRATOR

CAN GIVE THAT MEDAL.

IT IS FOR A LIFETIME OF

SCIENTIFIC ACHIEVEMENT,

OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP IN

SPACE SCIENCE AND NASA SPACE

PROGRAM.

GENE, IT'S AN HONOR TO GIVE

YOU THAT MEDAL.

[APPLAUSE]

>> WHAT A WONDERFUL MORNING.

THANK YOU, EVERYONE WATCHING

ACROSS THE COUNTRY.

IT'S AFL YOU WHO HAVE JOINED

US HERE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF

CHICAGO.

THERE WILL BE A SHORT MEDIA

QUESTION AND ANSWER, SO MEDIA,

YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE

THE ROOM.

PLEASE REMAIN.

EVERYONE ELSE, PLEASE JOIN US

IN THE ATRIUM FOR A RECEPTION

AND DEMONSTRATIONS.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Do i need a federal attorney to fight my charges? - Duration: 1:03.

Do I need a federal attorney to fight my charges?

If you have state charges you don't necessarily need a federal attorney.

However if you have federal charges, yes you need a federal attorney.

An attorney that's admitted to practice in the district in which the charges are being

brought.

In addition to that, you need somebody who knows what they're doing in federal court.

Federal court is not for everybody.

I'd say about 85% of the attorneys that I know don't practice in federal court.

They either don't like it, they don't know it, they're afraid of it.

It's important to have an attorney who practices in federal court.

I've practiced in federal court now for 25 years.

I love federal court.

It's not for everybody.

It's important that every person that's charged in federal court knows that they're getting

an attorney who's experienced in federal court.

How is being tried as a juvenile different than being tried as an adult? - Duration: 1:04.

How is being tried as a juvenile different than being tried as an adult?

Juvenile cases are different in that the focus is on the rehabilitation of the juvenile.

If you'll notice when you look at the actual paperwork, it will say not State of Florida

versus so and so, but in the interest of so and so.

Were thinking about the rehabilitation of the juvenile primarily.

Whereas in adult court it's focused primarily of punishment of the person they think committed

the crime.

It's important that you contact a juvenile attorney, somebody who is familiar with juvenile

law so that they can attain a disposition of the juveniles case so that it doesn't end

up on his record effecting his or her ability to get into a college or something like that,

a job.

There are plenty of opportunities in the juvenile system to be rehabilitated and keep these

charges off their record.

-------------------------------------------

What is statutory rape? - Duration: 1:11.

What is statutory rape?

Statutory rape is a general term that refers to the laws that are on most books in most

states, including here in Florida, where even if there is consensual sexual contact or sexual

intercourse between consenting individuals, the age of one of the people may subject the

other person to criminal prosecution.

For instance, believe it or not, if you're 18 or 19 years old and you have sex with your

15-year-old girlfriend, and that 15-year-old girlfriend's parents find out about it, they

can actually go to the state attorney's office and push for you to be prosecuted.

It's very important that if you think this is happening to you and it could happen to

you, or you're being charged, to contact an attorney so that possibly they can get the

state not to file the charges.

What are the federal sentencing guidelines? - Duration: 1:08.

What are the federal sentencing guidelines?

The Federal Sentencing Guidelines are guidelines used by the federal court to determine what

your sentence is going to be after you've been found guilty, either by pleading guilty

or being found guilty at trial.

They're not mandatory.

They used to be mandatory, now they're only advisory, so the court doesn't have to follow

them.

However, it's very important that you have an attorney who understands the Federal Sentencing

Guidelines and how they apply to your case, because more than 75% of the time, the judge

still uses the Federal Sentencing Guidelines in determining what your sentence is going

to be.

They vary from case to case, different types of cases, and they're kind of merged with

whatever criminal past that you have, but it's very important to contact an attorney

that understands the complexity of these guidelines.

What happens in a federal detention hearing? - Duration: 0:53.

What happens in a federal detention hearing?

A federal detention hearing is the first hearing you will have if you've been arrested on a

federal indictment or on federal charges.

At a federal detention hearing, the magistrate judge will determine whether you should be

released while your case is going on.

The court will look at certain factors like your prior record, whether or not you're a

risk of flight, whether or not you're a danger to the community.

It's important that you speak to an attorney as soon as possible, because the detention

hearing will happen, usually within a day or two of your arrest, so don't wait to go

to the detention hearing without a lawyer.

What is the difference between detention and arrest in florida? - Duration: 0:40.

What is the difference between detention and arrest in Florida?

A detention is when the person who's stopped by the police is not free to leave.

The police can detain you if they have a reasonable suspicion that you've been involved in some

type of criminal activity.

They can't arrest you because they don't yet have proper cause, they have to do further

investigation.

The difference essentially is that detention means that you're not free to leave.

Obviously when you're arrested, you're in handcuffs and you're going to jail.

Do i have to be informed that i am being indicted at a federal grand jury hearing? - Duration: 0:57.

Do I have to be informed that I am being indicted at a federal grand jury hearing?

No you don't.

People receive subpoena to go in front of a federal grand jury, it's part of a federal

investigation.

There's defense attorneys are not allowed in there.

The grand jury is basically not so grand.

It's used by the prosecutor to obtain chargers against you or other people they're investigating.

It could be you.

It's important that you contact an attorney who understands federal grand jury investigations,

so that they can attempt to find out from the federal prosecutor, if you're just a witness

or whether you're the actual target of the investigation.

Because basically they're ... Sometimes just hand in your own rope to hang yourself with

in a federal grand jury.

What are the defenses to solicitation of a minor? - Duration: 1:00.

What are the defenses to solicitation of a minor?

Well, the best one is entrapment.

The police often entrap people into this.

We've gotten cases dismissed on entrapment in this same situation where basically they

pose as a juvenile, either through a newspaper ad or through Craigslist or something like

that, the person shows up to meet the person, the so-called juvenile, and they're arrested,

okay?

It's very important that an attorney analyzes the facts and what they put in that information

to see if in fact they were entrapped into showing up, because quite often the police

don't provide the necessary information to make that person think that they're soliciting

a minor.

What are the punishments for drug offenses? - Duration: 0:57.

What are the punishments for drug offenses?

The punishments for drug offenses in Florida vary based upon how much the quantity of drugs.

There's certain minimum mandatory sentences.

Three years, seven years, fifteen years for drug trafficking charges.

In federal court it's also typically based on drug quantity.

There's an entire sentencing table that tells the court what the advisory guidelines sentence

should be.

These are very technical things that a lay person would not know about.

It's very important that you speak to your attorney about the possible punishments so

that you can make the right decision moving forward with your case.

How does juvenile court differ from adult court? - Duration: 0:51.

How does juvenile court differ from adult court?

Juvenile court is different in that it's focused primarily on the rehabilitation of the juvenile.

There are no jury trials.

If you want to fight the case, your guilt or innocence is determined by the judge, not

by a jury of your peers, and it's much more focused on what can we do to make sure that

this juvenile, this teenager, this kid doesn't do this again.

Whereas the adult system, yeah, you might get one bite at the apple but after that you're

facing some pretty harsh consequences including jail or even prison.

What happens if i fight the drunk driving case how long will it take? - Duration: 0:47.

What happens if i fight the drunk driving case how long will it take?

A typical DUI case takes anywhere between 3 to 6 months.

You shouldn't be wrapped up or concerned about the time factor, what you should be concerned

about is whether or not the state can actually prove a DUI case against you, whether or not

you can get an attorney to have the state reduce it to a reckless driving, whether or

not an attorney can get it dismissed.

We don't know that until we evaluate the case, so I wouldn't be so concerned about how long

it's going to take, I'd be more concerned about whether or not you're going to have

a DUI on your record.

What constitutes the crime of receiving possessing or distributing child pornography? - Duration: 0:55.

What constitutes the crime of receiving possessing or distributing child pornography?

The federal child pornography laws are fairly new and they apply, basically, to activity

on the computer.

You could feel like you're not distributing it.

However, if you have a file sharing program with somebody else, that could constitute

distribution under the federal child pornography laws.

Receiving it doesn't necessarily mean you've ordered it.

It just means you're pulling it up on the computer.

It's a very broad meaning and it can apply to you, so it's very important that you understand

if your computer has been seized what you're up against in this type of situation.

Do i have to complete the entire probation time?

That depends on what the court tells you when you're sentenced.

If the court tells you when your sentenced that you have to serve the full term and there

will be no early termination, yes you have to do it.

However, if the court is silent about that and they don't say anything about that, then

it's probably a good idea to consult an attorney at least the half way point of your probation.

That attorney may be able to get you off probation if you've completed all the terms and conditions

of your probation with no violations.

What exactly is a federal grand jury investigation? - Duration: 1:13.

What exactly is a federal grand jury investigation?

Everyone in federal court, if you're charged with a federal crime is required to be indicted

by a federal grand jury returning what's called a true bill of indictment, unless that right

is somehow waved prior to you being charged.

They're required to take their investigation in front of a group of people who show up

in a closed setting without defense lawyers and present witnesses to actually show the

grand jury that there is sufficient evidence to return an indictment and that's a grand

jury investigation.

They will bring witnesses that may or may not be indictment in order to actually bring

charges against one person or a group of individuals.

It's important if you know that you're involved in that to contact a lawyer as soon as possible

so that he or she can find out about what's really going on with this thing.

What are the penalties for a drunk driving conviction in Florida?

If you're convicted of a DUI in Florida, typically for a first time offender you're going to

have to have a minimum $500 fine plus court cost.

At least 50 hours of community service.

You're going to have to show proof that you've attended the DUI school.

Your driver's license is going to be revoked by the court for six months and your vehicle

may be subject to being impounded.

It's important to contact an attorney to look into your DUI case to see if the state has

the evidence to prove it because you may not be subject to all those penalties if the attorney

can get the charge reduced to a reckless driving.

Will i lose my drivers license following conviction in my florida drunk driving case? - Duration: 0:48.

Will i lose my drivers license following conviction in my Florida drunk driving case?

Yes you will.

You will lose your driver's license for at least six months due to a DUI conviction.

This is in addition to the suspension that you may already have from DMV for an unlawful

breath alcohol or refusing to take the breath test.

It's very important that you contact an attorney because the attorney potentially can get your

DUI charge reduced to a reckless driving charge which will not require a driver's license

suspension.

Don't think you can do this thing on your own.

There's collateral consequences that you don't want to face.

10 ways to say 'NO' in English (politely!) - Duration: 7:08.

Hello, and welcome to another engVid video.

Today is a conversational class. We're looking at how the British say: "No".

Now, how could today's lesson be useful to you?

Well, it's a cultural difference how we accept or refuse invitations, and getting it right is quite

important to making sure you don't upset someone when they do put an invitation out there to you.

The situation which we find ourselves in is the following:

A friend of ours has asked me to go for a powerwalking weekend in Skegness,

which is not one of the nicest parts of England.

Apologies if you are from Skegness, of course. Now, powerwalking, it's a... I'm more into

sort of windsurfing, or surfing, or sailing something in the water, but you know, two

poles striding up a mountain is a little bit... I'm not quite ready for that. I'm a little

bit too juvenile. So, how do I politely decline this fantastic invitation? I could say:

"Well, thank you so much. That's such a kind invitation, but..." Okay? So we can preface this with:

"Thank you so much. That is such a kind invitation, but I'm not particularly keen on... I'm not

particularly keen on..." What it actually means is I hate powerwalking, but we're going

to say: "I'm not particularly keen..." Okay? "Keen" means enthusiastic. Okay?

"I'm not particularly keen on powerwalking or Skegness."

"That's such a wonderfully kind invitation, but it's not really my idea of how I'd like to spend a weekend."

This is quite rude. This is quite: "Oo, okay. Steady on.", "It's not really my idea of..."

So, you know, if you know the person really well and you've got

that level of honesty in your friendship, then try this.

If you don't know the person so well, maybe try this one instead:

"I'm so sorry, but it's just not my idea of..."

Or you could use, instead of: "My idea of...", "It's just not my cup of tea",

because we all like to have a cup of tea here in the UK.

"I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry", okay? This "so" really gives the impression that we really care.

"I'm so sorry, but it's just not my idea of..." or "it's just not my cup of tea". I don't really

like these activities.

"Well, thank you so much. I'd actually much rather..." or: "I'd actually much rather..."

So, "actually" doesn't really mean anything here. It's just... It's a filler word that

helps us seem polite. "I'd actually much rather do anything else apart from that.",

"I'd much rather..." Okay? So this is a little bit like the second one there. If you know the person

reasonably well and you've got that level of honesty in your friendship.

"I'd actually much rather be cracking on with something else.", "Cracking on", funny, English phrase

meaning doing, getting on with. "Cracking on". "I'd actually much rather be..." It's

quite a posh phrase. "...be cracking on with...", "I'd much rather be cracking on with..."

Okay. Next option: "I'm afraid I'm not really interested in..." Okay? Quite similar to some

of these others in... These other options. "I'm afraid I'm not available then. I'm afraid

I just can't do it on those dates", would be another way if you don't want to offend

them by saying that you don't like powerwalking.

You'll notice some red followed by the blue. Obviously, the colours of the Union Jack,

feeling patriotic today and enthusiastic about our strange ways of talking.

Option number six: "That's fantastic, but I'm perfectly happy with..." So let's have a different scenario

now. Let's say that we are in the west end, and we're going between places and an enthusiastic,

young rickshaw driver, a cycle rickshaw comes up and offers us a lift for a ridiculous amount

of money to go about a hundred yards. So you say:

"That's fantastic, but I'm perfectly happy with walking. Thank you.",

"I'm perfectly happy with walking.", "I'm perfectly happy to walk",

so you could have a "to" there, infinitive verb. "That's fantastic" or "That's so kind".

Next way of saying: "No". "I'll", short for "I will": "I'll have to think about that.

Thank you so much for asking. The rickshaw driver comes up. "I'll have to think about that."

Quite why... It's just something we say. We're not actually going to think about

it. We already know that the answer is: "No". We're not going to go in the rickshaw.

"I'll have to think about it. Thank you so much for asking." Or if you want to press pause

and give yourself time to think, you could say: "I'll have to check with the management."

The management here is... If you're a guy it's your partner. Okay? So this is the wife

or girlfriend. It's a way of saying: "I don't really want to make a decision. I'm going to talk to her.",

"I'll have to check with the management." Okay?

So, we've agreed to sort of say: "No". We're not going to get into... This one is probably

better for the Skegness powerwalking weekend. We're not going to go powerwalking in Skegness,

and the other person says: "Oh, but we must have a weekend on the Lake District."

So we say: "Yes, yes, we must do that." It's all words... Okay? We're not actually saying we're

definitely doing this, so we say: "Yes, we must do that. We must make a plan.

We must put something in the diary."

Back to cycle rickshaw guy: "I think I'll leave it. Thank you." Okay? So this heavy

punctuation here, these two full stops make it quite final. Okay?

"No, thank you. I'm going off and doing something else."

Before you go off and do something else, I'd like you to have a go at today's quiz

to test your knowledge on these phrases for saying: "No" politely in a British manner.

Do you think you can give it a go? Can you get 10 out of 10?

Well, let's see. Until next time,

stay well, stay healthy, and remember to subscribe to this YouTube channel.

Bye.

What should i do if i am asked to take a field sobriety test in florida? - Duration: 0:58.

What should I do if I am asked to take a field sobriety test in Florida?

The police try to tell people, or they try to tell the courts, or they try to tell you

if you've been arrested for DUI that field sobriety tests, the walk-and-turn, the standing

on one leg, the finger-to-nose are standardized tests.

They're really not.

They're just kind of made-up tests, and they're not very indicative of whether or not you're

intoxicated.

I think that if you know you've been drinking, you probably shouldn't take them.

However, you will be arrested, and you will lose your license.

However, by taking them, if you are intoxicated and you do look intoxicated on a videotape,

you've just provided the state attorney with a large piece of evidence to prove the case

against you.
