Hill Garden ep 4: How to Trim Yucca - Duration: 7:49.

Hey Guys! Welcome to another Hill Garden

Video

Yeah! Finally! Right? Okay so today I

want to show you guys how to trim a Yucca and the

cool thing about it. How weird it is and

how awesome it is too. This is a Yucca tree

we have ... I think last time I counted it

was 12... one moment...

12! We have 12 Yucca

trees here. That's a lot of Yucca.

Yucca can be used for many things.

Including soap. Including rope and

including food ... actually so the cool

thing about Yucca is very versatile.

It grows here, naturally, without any

water except for the few times it rains

a year and it shoots out little growths like

these all the time and I can just

regrow these really if I wanted to but

instead I like to use in a compost. Because

they are so small and I'll regrow the

larger ones for other people or for other

projects because I really don't have any

use for more Yucca Trees here.

There's not that much space and there's 12.

So what's really cool about this, is it

has a Fibonacci Sequence. What a Fibonacci

Sequence is ... is

it goes around in a spiral .. I think its 1..

3... 5.. it's a spiral

basically it starts out from one point

and then it rotates a certain degrees to

the next space and then it grows

new leaf. So when I'm actually taking these

leaves off to compost them I have to

rotate it in those each degrees, each

time in order to take the leaf off

properly or else will just stick and I

won't be able to take leaf off because

another leaf will be blocking the space

where the leaf comes off.

What's really cool if you could see that

it's really white in there and in there it's

white as well. What's amazing

about Yucca.. is that's actually soap on

the end of each leaf. There's that

white stuff as well and you can crush

that up and turn it into soap. You can

use for your hands, clothes, anything really.

I'm actually working on trying to figure

it out, to get a really clean product.

That I can use.

That's not directly related to a plant and

has the same consistency soap and the same

kind of feel.. you know? That's what I'm working on,

these right now. Okay so this video mainly I

guess is about trimming these Yucca

Trees. Now trimming a Yucca Tree is a

little difference in trimming a regular

tree. First of all the branches fall off

Really Easy.

all you have to do is push it in the

right angle and a pops off. It's kind of

creepy... umm ... but it's really cool that it

makes it so people to actually you know

trim these trees and grow a new one.

Instead of having to take a saw and saw

it down and have a lot of labor.

And Man work and it's difficult on the Hill

and all that stuff i just simply push it

in one direction it falls off. Hey that

works right. So another thing with these

trees is, they produce this really dry sticks.

From the leaves that used to be really

moist and have a lot of soap in that part.

They produce these like string like... carbon

leaves and with those I can compost them as

well. But I have to get rid of those

because they're highly combustible.

I'm sure I can wrap them up in a nice

little ball and start a log fire with

them. But ... they don't really work well on

the tree cuz we don't want the tree to

catch fire. That's something that is

something that we really don't want and

even though the tree can't really burn

down because it's a succulent. It can

catch by it and light other things on fire

as well that's something that we really

don't want obviously. Who wants to be on Fire?

I don't know. So we have to get rid of

the inside of these and it's the same

pattern as I showed you before

it's a Fibonacci Pattern. So I find the very

bottom of the plant and I start picking

the leaves off one sequence and then I go to the next

percentage and the next percentage and the next percentage

until I get the full Fibonacci Sequence

around the tree, or around the branch.

If you guys can see, i already did part of this one right here

and sometimes there's other .. umm .. dried leaves

in the way so I can't really move or do anything cuz these leaves are actually

really tough and they're really pointy so

I could really injure myself if I ... you know ... mess up so

I don't mess up, I have to make sure

that I do it right so that way still trimmed and I

don't hurt myself, in the process. So I'm

just going to do a little bit of this

one for you to show you how its done.

So I have to find the lowest one that I can find so I can just ...

I poked myself.

As you can see sometimes I have to go to a

different one before I can go to

another one. That's just because the

positioning that I have to get in there and

sometimes it falls off sometimes it doesn't

so I just have to be really ... you know ...

strategic.

Okay! So I hope you guys can see that and you

know how long that takes. For each and

every one of the 12 trees here and theres a

lot more to go so I'm gonna work on that

and I hope to catch you guys next week

when we talk about other trees that we

have to trim here and other processes that have to go

on. I'll talk to you guys soon and Thank

You for watching this Hill Garden Video. Also Guys, if

An Existential Rant - theJunieBird - Duration: 5:09.

So I did VEDA and now my worst fear has

been realized and I have no more ideas

for videos. There are no idea for

videos, there are only empty silences and

editing software

and even the very best

can't turn just empty silences into a

good video, and let's be honest I'm not

the best editor. I'm okay, but I'm not the

best. I have to film a video because it's

time to film a video and because I want

to film video and

video so yeah.

Do you guys ever feel like that?

Like you've come to a point where you

don't have any ideas anymore, and you may

as well just give up? I mean that's not

even true, like I have a bunch of ideas,

they're just not videos that I want to

be the first video back from VEDA and

I'm just sitting here trying to figure

out what I want to be the first video

back from VEDA, and apparently it's just

going to be whatever this is.

I was so excited last week. I had so many plans

last week. I just have a plan for THIS

video. And apparently this is the video

that's going to be getting me into trouble.

Why am I like this? Why are any

of us like this?

Why do I make videos at all? I-I sort of

know why I make videos. This is like my

version of an existential crisis,

because I have a bunch of questions in

my brain and I'm like why-- most of them

like kind of existential questions, like

"Why am I doing this? What is this for?" All

that good stuff, but at the same time I do

have all the answers for them. Like, I

want to make videos because I want to

learn better how to make things, and I

want to keep going because I've created

some sort of community here, and I love

that community, and I want to continue that.

And this is just a very meta video.

I'm sorry?

I guess I'm just in a

weird contemplative mood because my sister

graduated from college.

I know that's a really good excuse but,

it's the only one I got.

She's like really smart, and she already

has a job,

and that's hard. I'm happy for her but I

can't help but be a little sad for me.

Which is super overdramatic, because I do

really like my life. I can't help but

feel like I'm on the edge of everything

changing, and I don't know why I feel

like that, I don't know what's going to

change.

And I've felt this way before. I think

that's the hardest part, I felt this way

before and nothing happened.

Or at least I felt this way before and

now I'm back again. And it's not the

greatest feeling. So I guess that's it.

Thank you for watching this existential

rant. If you like this video, for whatever

reason, feel free to find some of my

other videos or subscribe, and then

follow me on Twitter or Instagram, I've

been posting a lot of pictures to

Instagram lately so that might actually

be worth it. And as always I hope you get

a chance to do something that you love

today. I'll see you next time.

Bye guys.
