TO USE, BUT AT THE SAME TIME I CAN TRAIN PEOPLE BOTH TECHNICALLY AND SCIENTIFICALLY ALONG

WITH THE NAVY UNIFORM SIDE.

The Great Meteor Procession of 1913 - Duration: 4:31.

On February 9, 1913 an extraordinary and unique phenomenon was observed by multiple witnesses

across Canada, the US and the island of Bermuda.

Known as the Great Meteor Procession, this event seems to suggest that Earth once had,

at least for a time, a second, small natural satellite.

Think about that, that would mean that up until 1913 Earth technically had two natural

moons.

Over a hundred reports exist of this phenomenon and what they indicate is that between 40

and 60 very slow moving fireballs arranged in groups moving in what appeared to be an

identical path crossed the sky over the course of several minutes.

This would be unusual for a normal meteorite, those tend to be lone wolves.

It would be less unusual for a meteor shower, though those tend to involve dust grains and

the apparent size of these fireballs would be more consistent with sizeable meteorites.

Meteor showers also tend to be fairly predictable events.

They happen at the same time each year as earth passes through debris field left in

the trail of comets that have crossed our orbit at some point in the past.

Meteor showers also exhibit something called a radiant, this is a point in the sky where

meteors, if you trace them backwards, appear to originate.

Astronomer Clarence Chant determined from the reports that The Great Meteor Procession

did not have a radiant, and instead seems to have followed a great circle trajectory.

There are thought to be two possible reasons for this.

The parent object might have encountered earth before, grazed the atmosphere at a shallow

angle and skipped back out into space.

This is not unheard of, a rather large fireball was witnessed doing just that over western

North America in 1972.

Once back in space it might have broken up into pieces setting up for the multiple fire

balls observed when it encountered earth again and was drawn in.

The second possibility is that whatever was the source for the meteors was formerly in

orbit of earth.

Now, bodies in the solar system, including earth, can capture other objects such as asteroids.

Quite a few of the smaller moons in the outer solar system are believed to be just that,

captured asteroids.

They can eventually end up in stable orbits if the conditions are right, or they can orbit

for a time in a decaying orbit.

The latter may have been what happened here.

But there's another possibility and while it's sort of one of those old, dusty theories

within space science that not a lot of people remember it was at least intriguing at the

time.

Astronomer John O'Keefe proposed that instead the material that made up the fireballs was

instead a remnant of a ring system Earth might have had at one time, similar to Saturn.

This ring system would have been produced by the action of lunar volcanos long ago when

they were still active, which relates to another theory of O'Keefe's that tektites, a group

of natural glasses that show clear evidence of once having flown aerodynamically through

the atmosphere, originated on the moon.

His main evidence for this was a curious lack of water in tektites, internally they are

very dry for something that originated on earth.

The theory was given serious consideration by science at one time.

However subsequent studies of tektites have shown that they are most likely generated

from earth rock melted during crater-forming asteroid impacts.

The evidence for this has accumulated and is now pretty convincing but it doesn't really

answer O'Keefe's ring theory.

Might the moon early in its history have sprayed materials far enough out into space to form

a planetary ring system around earth?

There really isn't much evidence for it unfortunately, other than potentially the Great Meteor Procession.

And with that, no associated meteorites were ever found so we may never know the origins

of this event.

But it's at least fun to imagine planet earth with a second tiny moon, or even a ring long

ago in the past.

Vlog #2 - The Seville Fair - Duration: 6:20.

Hi Guys! It's Marine.

Welcome back to My Little English Page.

As you can probably see

I am NOT on my sofa again

so today is going to be a vloggin video.

I am at the Seville Fair, I have just reached the fairground

and what you can see at the back is called

the Portada. Every year at the

entrance of the fair, you have this thing

and it has a different theme.

This year it is "La Expo Universal del 92"

Yep, 92! So I think in English it's called the World's fair

or something like that. So that's the

theme of the year, so let's have a look

at what the Seville Fair is, and I hope

you enjoy it.

So I actually came to the

fair two days ago and I was wearing the

typical traditional attire which is called

a sevillana dress, you can probably

see some girls at the back wearing them.

They are very big dresses with different

colorful patterns and fabrics and it's...

It's a really nice dress. But today I thought

I'a gonna be walking a lot

I just don't wantna wear that dress. Now, I did film

last time, but like an idiot, I deleted most of

the footage, so that's what we're doing again.

I don't know if you can hear

anything because it's quite loud, so this is

what it looks like.

So most of those little tents are actually private

so if you don't know somebody to

get in, it's kind of tricky.

But you have some public ones

I'm not gonna walk through it.

So you can find some public ones but they are

obviously very very crowded because of all the tourists

all the people that don't have a caseta.

Well, that's the only option that you have.

I can't see any horses, usually it's full of

horses and carriages but this is I guess

the end of the fair, it's the end of the day

the horses might be tired, maybe they are home sleeping.

You can hear J-Lo at the fair.

of the fair. It looks like this.

It's a mix of Tio Pepe which is a very dry

white wine and 7up, and it's quite nice

it's very tricky, be careful when you drink this.

I have just left my friends and I'm going to

get bunuelos before I leave. This is something

that I must have every time I go

to the Fair or any kind of special Spanish event.

Alright, so just ot give you a rough idea of what

"Hell Street" looks like. That's the "district".

So you don't want to go in there!

It's very busy.

And that's where you find the bunuelos, le churros and everything.

Spaniards love deep-fried food.

So that's what I'm getting.

Let me show you the sweets that you can get at the fair.

Those are deep-fried...well, it's churros and they're stuffed

with chocolate of some kind of custard.

Hello everyone and welcome back to my channel !

In today's video I'm going to draw a mermaid for Mermay!

I've already drawn a couple of them since the beginning of the month.

This one I did with watercolour and the other two with my markers,

just like the one I'll be making today.

So, what's Mermay?

It's sort of an artist challenge or tradition, very popular among artists on Instagram,

where the goal is to draw mermaids in the month of May, one every day. Or as much as you can.

I already sketched mine, and I'm not trying to make her fish part look like any real creature,

I'm just taking bits and pieces to make my mermaid up.

So, enjoy watching!

I'm really happy with how she turned out, especially the colours.

Things were really horrible here five years ago.

The drought, the heat, the wind.

The withered soil was simply blown away.

They set up a programme so that we could move to a different area.

The land has become fertile again.

There have been enormous improvements.

Our fruit trees were shrivelled up, but now they're growing again.

There's even a larger number of species.

Those are really positive results.

We now have food security.

Our children can go to school. We have a better life.

We no longer need to ask the government for support...

...thanks to the changes that were implemented.

Wild animals that had disappeared have returned.

Even the leopard.

I'm from that area.

Will he come tomorrow? - Tomorrow, yes.

The people didn't understand the project. They didn't see why it was needed.

They want us to plant trees everywhere.

Even on the good land.

Even there.

Well, how about the next generation?

You can't eat trees.

The objective was to give the hills a 'hat' on top...

...a 'belt' in the middle and 'shoes' at the bottom.

The trees planted on the hilltop form the hat.

The terraces form the belt.

And a constructed dam forms the shoes.

That way everything can grow again...

...and the economy and our lives will improve.

You have to trim them at the top and then put them around the saplings.
