Welcome! Thanks for joining us today as I taste through six delicious wines.
Hi, I am Tim from Elma Wine & Liquor. Today I have six wines to taste.
I am gonna go through and taste each one and give you a little description of each.
I'll let you know what I am tasting and what the quality of the wine is like.
First I am going to start with the Kendall Jackson Vintner's Reserve Riesling.
This is a Riesling from California. Kendall Jackson is more well known for their Chardonnay,
which is one of the top selling wines in the country. But they also do a number of other wines, including this Riesling.
Very pale in color. I smell some apples, a little bit of pear notes as well. A lot of sugar.
A lot of sweet over ripened apples or over ripened pears, that kind of sweetness you get.
It is a little bit too much. You almost feel a little sticky. So that's Kendall Jackson Vintner's Reserve Riesling.
Next up we have 716 Cellars Pinot Grigio. So 716 is the area code of Buffalo, New York.
This wine is not made in Buffalo, but it is owned and operated by a local owner. They private label a couple of different wines.
This Pinot Grigio and this red blend here. The Pinot Grigio is from Italy. Very fresh smell... Very refreshing. A little bit of acidity.
A little bit too much acidity in a Pinot Grigio for my taste, but a very nice summer wine. Leaves you that acidity on the finish.
Kinda leaves you thirsty for more, so it would go down well on a hot summer afternoon. Good, easy, refreshing drink.
Next up we have Fleurs de Prairie Rosé from Provence, France. As we have talked about in previous videos, rosés are traditionally dry wines.
This one I believe is a blend of Grenache, Cinsault, and Syrah. Has a very faint pink tint to it. That's not very heavy on the red color so it's very light.
Smells like a lot of watermelon on the nose. A little bit of strawberry, a little bit of watermelon on the palate.
Very dry, very faint traces of acidity on the finish.
Very nice wine, this would pair well with some appetizers or just by itself on a summer day. It is a very nice wine.
And it also has a very beautiful bottle, I don't know if the camera can pick up this embossed glass here.
Moving on to the reds. We have the 716 Cellars Red Blend, which is a Syrah/Cabernet blend. This one as I said is not made in Buffalo,
but it is private labeled by a local company. The wine is from Australia.
I get a lot of pepper on the nose - black pepper, little spiciness, a little bit of dark fruit...
very fruit forward, very easy drinking. Settle tannins near the finish which dry it out a little bit.
But it is not overly dry. It's got some good weight to it, heavy in your mouth and it is good, easy drinking red wine.
Moving on, we have the Colby Red. This is a red wine, made in California.
The winemaker's son had a rare heart condition when he was young and the wine maker decided to make a wine in honor of him - Colby.
And so they donate proceeds from the wine to various heart foundations around the country. It has great little story to it.
This wine, I don't know if you are able to see, but it is much darker than the 716 that we just had before it.
It has some deep ruby, purplish color to it. I get a little smoke on the nose and some like dark rich black fruit type of flavors.
Very thick, very heavy, almost some leather, very earthy notes to it, but not overly tannic, not too dry, not too strong. Very rich and fruity.
Yeah, it is very good, easy drinking red wine. That's the kind of style that's been very popular lately.
It can go with anything, drink it by itself, could go with some barbecue maybe. Very nice wine. And like I said, great story to it.
Last stop - we have Voga Moscato. See the bottle there is a little bit of a different type of bottle than the traditional wine bottles.
The story behind it is that the monks that live near the winery have been bottling spring water in these types of bottles.
So the winemakers decided to honor them by using this type of bottle. And obviously it helps to sell it a little bit more,
it is a little bit unique, a little bit different. We also have a Pinot Grigio that comes in the same type of bottle.
Moscato is a sweet white grape, which is why I am doing it last. Smells like peaches and apricots. Very fresh, it has some light effervescence to it,
and as expected, very sweet. But it is not overly sweet. It just has a good sugar consistency to it. It is good for hot summer days or for an after dinner drink.
Moscato has been very popular lately with a lot of people, so it's always a good hit in a summer party.
