How to Change Color in Corner to Corner/C2C Crochet! Free Beginner Crochet Pattern Included - Duration: 19:22.
hey guys it's Amanda here so I had a request on my tutorial Tuesday about how
to corner-to-corner crochet and the request wants to share some easy
patterns for beginners on different corner to corner projects so what I've
got here today is this nice little square quantity' corner motif you can
see I've made a few of them here and what I like about this pattern is that
only this two colors so it's not really overwhelming because changing colors
when you do corner to corner is very different than when you change colors on
other projects and the reason is just because of the technique you're not
really working an even row straight across you're kind of working these
blocks so you're kind of like going like this the whole way across so it just
makes it a little more challenging when you're changing color but this video I
show you how to work this pattern and I explained how I change the colors as I
work this pattern and the key when you work in multiple colors in corner to
corner crochet if you want to minimize the amount of tails that you even
because nobody likes weaving in tails let's be real here so I'm going to show
you some different methods that will help you work over your tails as you go
along and also just minimize the amount of tails that you even end up with and
also I have found an article by the make and do crew about how to change colors
and corner to corner crochet so I really recommend that article that kind of
helped me as I've been figuring out corner to corner myself I'll put a link
to that in the description below if you're interested in reading about that
so that might give you some more pointers but this project today I'm
going to show you how to change colors and this one specifically but the same
ideas can be applied to really much any corner to corner crochet so let's get
into the tutorial okay so here's the pattern that we're going to be working
on today just a simple little four by four corner to corner project I haven't
blocked these ones yet I probably will but I'm going to be making a bunch of
these in different colors to make into a blanket and this kind of just uses two
colors right now I'm just going to show you guys how to change colors it's just
two you can do more but the more colors you add in the more of a challenge it
can become so at this pattern we're going to start in this corner so we're
going to start here and work back and forth like this
there's a total of one two three four five six seven rows of corner to corner
and if you don't know how to crochet corner to corner click this link right
here and it'll take you to a video that will explain how and also as far as what
yarn and using I wish I actually know what this was but I don't because I got
this from a lady at church so I think that at 19 years old I am now the crazy
yard lady on my church but hey it's okay four yards always a good thing
so I've got this fun yellow here and I've already completely worked the first
two rows of the corner to corner so I've gone this row here and this row so if
we're looking at a completed one it's like right this part right here so now
we're going to crochet a block right there so that next block is going to be
yellow also so just like normal we're going to start our row working in the
yellow
we're going to get all the way to this last stitch but when I have only two
loops left on the hook I'm not going to finish the stitch instead what I'm going
to do is I'm going to get my green yarn by contrasting colors and I'm going to
make a slipknot in this yarn because my next block this block is going to go
right here but the next block needs to be green so it's time to change color so
this is how I'm going to change color I'm going to take the slipknot put it on
my hook and I'm going to pull it through these last two loops here make sure I
can pull this yellow tail and tight but I'm not going to cut the yellow normally
when I change colors I'll cut the tail end right away but we're going to
actually work with them mostly attached because by doing this it means we have a
lot less tails to weave in so now I'm going to finish this block up by slip
stitching into the top of the adjacent space but when I do the slip stitch I
want to work over the little green tail and the yellow here so I'm going to kind
of pull these off to the front and then do my slip stitch with the actual green
yarn and now I'm going to work a green block here but when I work the green
block I want to make sure that I work over those tail ends so whenever I do my
double crochets in here you can see that I'm going around those tails and by
doing this I am kiting those tails I'm also going to this is also going to
work the yellow to where I'm going to need it next and then also I can just
trim this green so why does it go along it works thus if you deal with their
tails as you come across them because if you wait until the very end they're
going to have a bunch of tails and you're kind of going to be hating
yourself so to finish this row we need to put a yellow block right here you can
look at this one for comparison so we need the yellow block right there so
that means I need to change color now when I change color
I'm not going to complete the final stitch I'm always going to work until I
have two things left on here like this and now because the yellow is right next
to the yellow here I can just pull grab this
Taylan loop it over and pull it through to change color and you can see that
there's a bit of yellow there but because it's going to be right next to
this block it will blend right in and you won't notice that yellow tail that's
coming up the side there so now I'm working with the yellow and I'm going to
insert my hook and I'm going to work a slip stitch right here and then I'm
going to complete this block and yellow and then start the next star with the
yellow block
I'll pause here for just a minute you can see by doing that color change like
this we haven't had many tails we've split out this green that's attached we
haven't cut this but the first green kale is hidden and the yellow we didn't
have a tail from starting in a tail from ending because we just work the yellow
from here up into there so that's why we're doing it this way so that's a
first method to be able to change colors in corner to corner crochet
okay so I finished the second block so if you look at the pattern it's like
we're in one of the corners so I'm going to go ahead and need to change to green
when I work the block right there so like normal I'm going to go ahead and
undo that last stitch there and now you might be going what do we do about this
green well all I'm going to do is I'm just going to lay this across here
you're going to catch it and pull it through and so it might look a little
weird you want to make sure you have good tension so you might need to kind
of adjust how tight or loose it is but now I've got this one attached here and
I'm going to insert the hook into the top of the adjacent tile and I'm going
to work a slip stitch to there and the idea here is when we work our three
double crochet we're just going to work over both these tail ends and it will
hide them both so I'm going to chain three and I'm going to make sure that I
have the yellow one pulling over here that I can work around it and then I'm
going to also work over the screen when when I work into this spot right here
am i working over the yellow it's also going to pull it over to where we need
it to be next just keep working over all your colors
okay and our next block is also going to be green so we can finish off this
stitch like normal if we look at this block we're going to join here work a
block here but then we're going to need to yellow all the way up here so you
have a couple options one option is you can keep working over the yellow in that
case we're going to have to pull the yellow up in between here and that might
not be a big deal because the yellow is a little bit thinner than the screen I'm
using and you might be able to kind of cover it with the darker yarn and then
we would work over it so we come up the side here and then we would hide it when
we work right here and then we'd be able to grab it when we work the last tile
right here so that's one option the downsides of this option or you'll have
this yellow going right up here but I actually did that on this guy right here
and you can see that it blended in pretty well overall the second option is
to cut the yarn and that's actually the option I'm going to go as fortunately we
worked over the tail end right here so we don't have to fasten it in at all I'm
just going to snip it closer there so while we are going to have to rejoin the
yarn at least we don't have a big tail to weave in we've already taken care of
that so now I'm just going to work this next block like normals
and now it's time to join the yellow back in so I'm going to join it just
like I joined the green initially and I'm just going to start with the slip
stitch hook it on to here pull it through pull
that slip stitch to the last two I'm going to leave both the green and the
yellow connected and I'm going to work over this yellow tail and slip stitch
the green block to the yellow block beside it and I'm actually going to
leave this green tail just hanging here for new so we'll come back to that one
later on when we need it again so I'm going to complete the block that
goes right in the corner just like normal just make sure to work over the
yellow tail end so that way all you'll have to do is trim it instead of weaving
it in so as I said I'm going to take care of all my tails as I work along I
find it a lot more doable if I do it as I work along because if I wait until the
end then go back to do them usually what happens is I finish my project have all
the talents and then I never actually weave the talents and get them enjoy my
project so that's why I'm doing it as I go and the nice thing is as long as you
work over the tails you'll just be able to trim them to get rid of them now that
we're at this corner we want to slip stitch along the edge to get to our next
tile because we're going to be starting to decrease so I'm going to do two slip
stitches in the yellow but when I get here I'm going to pick the green back up
so I'm just going to take it from right here and pull through like that now you
might be noticing that we've got this kind of green sticking out here how does
this work well the nice thing is we're just going to work over it so let me
just walk around my balls of yarn you'll notice that the colors tend to get
tangled up as you're working so just kind of keep passing them over each
other to keep them untangled and now I'm just going to work a green block like a
normal and now I just want to make sure that I work over both the yellow tail
and the green tail that we've already pulled through there so complete the
block just like normal I am going to need to change color for
the next block but fortunately I've got the yellow right here I'm going to go
ahead and just pull the yellow through both of these I'm not going to worry
about this tail so much I'm going to just kind of let it be caught in the
green I think it will work out okay if you look at this one right here you can
see that's the yellow tail and I just kind of worked through right there just
kind of pull up the side you can notice it a little bit but because the green is
a lot darker than the yellow you don't really notice it so that's why I'm going
to just work with the yellow here and not worry about it appearing between the
two green spots and then when I slip stitch to the spot to the left I want to
make sure I catch this green tail so just kind of pull up a side you can kind
of wrap it around that yellow tail some and that will help hide the yellow do my
slip stitch and then complete a yellow block and also when you're changing
colors a good rule of thumb wherever your tail is going the questions you
want to ask yourself are one does it match the colors beside it so for
example this green right here that we pull it over earlier it matched the
green beside it so that was good and then I want to also ask myself can I
work over the tail so we pulled that green all the way over here and even
though it next to the yellow here we were able to work over with green the
thing you want to be aware of that you want to avoid is one color coming up
between blocks of another color so that's what happened with this yellow
here this yellow came up between two green blocks so generally speaking you
want to avoid that with this pattern just because of the thicknesses of the
yarn and the colors of the yarn I chose to work like that anyways but that's
just something to keep in mind as in general rules of thumb so here I am
trying to go back to green so I'm going to pick up the green again and just pull
it through the last two loops of that stitch once more I'm going through slip
stitch to the space to the left of it but this time because I am working on
the decreasing rows I'm kind of thinking ahead and I don't want to pull this guy
up here so now I'm going to complete the green block
like normal and slip stitch to the block beside it and now here's something I
will mention when you do the slip stitch it can kind of cause the one color to
bleed into the other colors block and what I mean by that is instead of having
a nice crisp edge here you kind of end up with an edge but then a little bit of
green kind of going that way so to help avoid this when you turn your work
around and do the slip stitches don't do a slip stitch right here do your first
slip stitch in this second spot so not here but right here work a slip stitch
and then a second slip stitch and that will kind of pull this over a bit so
you'll end up with just a nicer shape overall in a straighter edge now I'm
going to change colors here again and I want to insert my hooks are here and I'm
going to pick up the yellow this is what I was talking about the first thing to
consider is will this kale be next to yellow so right here it's next to yellow
so that's good it'll blend in but here it's next to green but then my next
question to ask myself is can I work over it and the fortunate answer is yes
I can so this color change will work nicely if we work like this and then I'm
going to complete a block like normal in these techniques I'm showing you guys
these the order I'm doing them in apply specifically for this pattern but the
general concepts can be applied to other corner to corner crochet but also
there's an article that really helped me I will put that in the link below I
already mentioned that in the beginning so some of my ideas and my inspiration
came from that article and I find it really helpful so you might find that
helps you change color in corner to corner crochet a little bit better too
so this time I'm going to leave the green there because remember when I pull
it up if I were to pull it up between two of the opposite colors so generally
speaking I want to avoid that
once again slip stitch right up here and to create the nicer edge instead of it
kind of bleeding so to speak into the green I'm going to not slip stitch here
but slip stitch in the second one and I'll just kind of pull everything a
little tighter make it a little better okay so now we are down to our last
corner and it's going to be green so I have a choice here I can pull it up like
this but the downside of doing that is I'll have yellow on either side of it
there even though I'd be able to hide the talent here so I'm going to cut the
green at this point fortunately we've already worked over that tail end so
that's one less tail end we have to weave in then I'm just going to work a
slip knot and set my hook here slide the slip knot onto my hook tighten it down a
little bit and pull the loop through and chain three just like normal in this
last block that's completed just like normal but I'm going to make sure I work
over these tail ends here when I complete the block
and then just hook it on here you may want to instead of hooking into the loop
where it will kind of weave through you may want to work your slip stitch just
on the very very edge pick a spot I'm going to go in right here just so that
way the colors stay better defined and I'm just going to fasten off tighten it
now these two tails here and I'll deal with them they're already worked over so
I don't have to leave them in just going to trim them and now because I've been
weaving in my ends as I've got it and I've been working over the tail ends I
only have two tails to weave and despite all the color changing I did so I'm just
going to grab a tapestry needle and weave these in early quick and then the
block will be finished and here's the finished corner to corner square a nice
little motif that can be used in different projects I like this pattern
because it's really cute and you have lots of options on how to arrange them
you can do them all kind of like this you can turn them all to the center and
end up with a bigger square you can do them really hodge podge just kind of
something whimsical like that and get all kinds of neat
patterns that you can work with this pen so there you go now you can make these
fun corner to corner little motifs and they're really cool like I was saying
you can combine them in all different ways I'm going to make a baby blanket
out of these actually I'm going to use a bunch of different colors just kind of
make it fun and playful but these little squares have a lot more potential than
being used just for a blanket you could use it for say a bag you could use a
bunch of these to make the size of a bag you could use it to make a shawl or a
pillow pretty much you can use these little squares to make whatever you can
think of so go ahead and get out there and make some of these little corner
corner squares you can also make the square itself just continue bigger if
you wanted to make a really big blanket say using this pattern we just continued
instead of only working for you would just keep getting wider wider apply the
same techniques and you'd be able to make a fun project so I hope that this
helps you guys and if this does help you I would really appreciate it if you
would share that really helps my stuff get out there I want people to know
about these different methods and to learn the things that you guys are
learning I real we appreciate your support but I hope
you have a great week happy crafting guys

PROCESS FOR PICKING MUTUAL FUNDS |401k Investing| Part 3 - Duration: 12:11.
what is up my fellow youtubers welcome back to MK chip money and life TV today
I'm gonna be sharing with you my simple strategy for picking investments because
we're talking about 401k investing this is the third part of the series and I'm
going to be sharing with you my strategy for picking good mutual funds when I was
younger I was always interested in the fact of how do some people go from very
humble beginnings or very basic beginnings and accumulate wealth over
time all throughout the course of my life I've read and learned several
things I knew one of the pieces of that puzzle was knowing how to pick good
investment I don't know if you're like me but I read dozens of books on
investing in fact there are hundreds of books hundreds of articles on the
subject of investing but what I found is that most of the material gives you no
process for figuring out how to actually select good investment in this video I'm
sharing my five simple techniques that I use before I choose an investment this
is my investment process now remember if you've been following this series the
whole purpose of this series is to 1 so you can learn about how to invest in
your 401k but also so you can improve the rate of return you're getting on
your 401k investment any questions you have on this stuff our about this
process please leave them in the comment section down below and I will make sure
to respond just be thinking of questions as you're watching this video ok so
let's dive in this process
my first criteria when selecting an investment is do I understand it do I
understand what I'm investing in a successful investor once told me that
Mike if you're going to invest you should really know what you're investing
in you said do you understand it don't just go into real estate just because it
sounds good don't just take mutual funds because
they sound good but when you're going to invest is do you understand the
investment that really stuck out to me because then I knew that I was not going
to invest in something unless I took the time to understand it I didn't have to
know all about it right at that moment but I had to be willing to do the
research are say okay if I if I want to learn this it sounds interesting to me I
need to spend some time do some research before I invest my hard-earned money
into that investment so why do I understand it what I mean is or if since
we're talking about the strategy for picking mutual funds here is do you know
what that mutual fund is made up of do you know their long-term average rate of
return you know do what are their expense fees and ratios and things like
that does you know does that does that stuff make sense so that's what I mean
by do I understand it
now this seems like a very obvious criteria if you've never done investing
before or trying to select good mutual funds you're actually going to start
here even before the first one the reason I say that is because when you
actually go if you remember in our last video we looked at Vanguard fidelity and
John Hancock websites and I showed you where to go to find the mutual funds
well the mutual funds have very weird names
and they have ticker symbols like stocks so you're not going to know just by
reading the name you're generally not going to know what that mutual fund is
made up of until you actually click into the link and drill down the retail so
that's why when I actually do this process I actually start here the first
thing I do is look for the highest rates of return over a 10 plus year period of
time the Vanguard has a hundred and twenty six funder these guys saw my last
video so in those 126 funds I found there were five to ten investments that
were all star performers so right there I just cut my research list from 126
down to ten part of the purpose of us going through this criteria guys is the
save time you might have fidelity you might have John Hancock you might have
Vanguard I don't know what you have but find a way to analyze the information in
your 401k plan so you can see which funds and your plan have performed the
best over a ten-year period of time in my 401k plan out of the sixty investment
choices I did the are that I have only about five to ten of those were really
good performers I want to try to maximize get the highest rate of return
for our money and I'm sure you do as well
number three are the third criteria I look at is the global economy so by
global economy think of what's going on in the world does that investment make
sense like if so for example we're trying to invest in oil well are we
trying to move away from oil or are we trying to go more closer towards oil so
it might not make sense to invest in oil right if you think that 20 30 years from
depth down the road we're not going to use as much of it take a long term big
picture of how the future trends are going to impact your investment
performance because we do not want to be investing in something that is not going
to be relevant 10 30 40 years from now
number four minimum rate of return when I'm sorting through my 401k investments
online I don't I don't know about you but I don't I don't want to invest in
something that's only going to show me like a three or four percent return it's
going to be too low and I know I'm younger so I'm able to take higher risk
and you get higher returns I've made a pact to try to not to go below that six
percent annual return on my investment after bees are considered so I am
considering fees the fee a front-loading see yeah my pain the fee on the back end
of the speech will fund or do I pay a fee every year like a percentage like
one percent two percent on this mutual fund so I really do take these into
consideration guys but at a minimum this is me personally and you can choose what
you want to do for you guys but I'm looking at least a 6% our greater
returns on my money
the fifth criteria guys I use is I want to consider risk we always want to be
thinking about risk and by risk you know I had to think about hey you know how
old am i right now when do I want to retire and I encourage you guys to ask
yourself those questions as well how old are you when do you want to retire how
do you feel about taking some risks now my risk philosophy a risk preferences
are probably going to be different from yours and that's okay every single
person is going to have a different comfort level level with risk some
people are in the low-risk scale they are very conservative they don't want to
take a lot of risk other people want to take a very high amount of rhythm so it
really depends on the person themselves so here's my thoughts on this guys and
you can disagree with me totally fine so for me I want a higher rate of return
on my investment I am willing to take the risk I'm not a big fan of bond fund
and that's because I know that interest rates are all-time low so likely most
bond funds if the Federal Reserve raises interest rates the value of those bonds
is going to go down which means if you have money invested in those bonds it's
going to go down with it but especially with inflation being at what it is I
know the Federal Reserve says inflation is that 2% I personally do not believe
that I don't think it is I think inflation is really like five five
percent I think it's much more realistic because if we look at health care we
would look at the cost of college we look at the cost of automobiles the the
cost of those things this keeps going up our dollar is continually losing value
as a print money as more debt brought into play asset prices are pushed up and
really what that means is our dollar is not as strong as it used to be and so
that's why I would rather shoot for a higher rate of return I am NOT okay and
not comfortable taking only a two percent return three percent return
because I think it's too low because eventually in the long run I'll be
getting poor over time if there if the inflation rates at five percent I have
to take that in consideration and I have to shoot for something that 6% are
greater to stay current with the economy they'll always consider but if you
personally have to consider risk for yourself guys how much risk are you
willing to take but I can tell you this it's go back to principle number one if
you understand what you're investing in you're going to feel a lot more
comfortable than if you're just randomly throwing darts at a board guys we're not
doing that here so this is a process that I use for picking mutual funds you
don't have to use it yourself guys but I just want to share with you what I do to
get the rates of return that I do so take it so take it for what it's worth I
hope it helps you if any questions about this let me know I'm happy to answer
them for you but overall it's just coming up with a strip you have to come
up with a strategy for yourself maybe you limit my strategy or maybe you'll
come up with something completely different it's ok it's whatever works
for you but find a process a strategy that you can implement over and over and
over again in your investment and what's going to happen is you're going to get a
higher rate of return likely going to get a higher rate of return you're going
to feel more comfortable about it or you're going to learn how to manage your
risk and over time you're going to become a better and better investor less
time is going to be required for you to do that process because you'll have a
process and you'll you know you'll have it in place important thing to remember
guys as I'm going through this process what I do is if I see as I'm especially
liked as I look for higher rates of return I'm writing the names of those
mutual funds down and the ticker symbol so that I can quickly go back and look
at this later be writing things down are putting them in a Microsoft Word
document and an Excel document just somewhere as you go so that you don't
have to look back again later be like hey what was that mutual fund I wanted
to look at so that's that's my word of advice for you ok guys if you like the
