Youtube daily report Apr 10 2018

Okay so it's Sunday and we're gonna do some meal prepping I really want to make

some vegan hazelnut cutlets pretty much like burgers they're so delicious you

guys I showed them to you guys in a recent what I eat in a day on my main

channel and a lot of you guys asked to see me make them I did give you guys the

recipe on that channel so if you want an actual like screen grab where you can

just like screenshot the recipe head over to actually I'll link it in the top

right corner so you guys can just click it but a lot of you guys wanted to see

me make them and I get why because it's not that it's a complicated recipe but

like I guess you wanted to see how I make the burgers how I rolled them in

the breadcrumbs and everything like that so let's go ahead and do that today I

haven't made these in a few weeks so I'm really excited cuz I'm really craving

them you guys I'm a meat-eater okay like I am NOT I love meat you guys know that

and these taste amazing like you don't feel like you're not eating meat they

literally they give you like a fried chicken vibe so actually I got this idea

from Whole Foods I'm not even talking to you guys I'm just like letting you face

it there while I'm talking anyways though my me I look crazy I need to take

my little Sunday pamper shower still but I figured I'm gonna do these first

anyways umm yeah so I actually got this idea from Whole Foods

so Whole Foods makes these hazelnut cutlets if you go to like their food

section and order the hazelnut cutlet it is delicious you guys like it is so good

oh it's so good it gives you like fried chicken vibes like a fried chicken

burger but I don't know how many calories there's are I think it's around

250 they say that it's around 250 but I don't know about that because it looks

like it could be fried like the coating it's just way too golden brown and like

perfect so I feel like it's fried I feel like it's around more like 400 but you

know whatever anyways I decided to make my own because it's expensive too I

think one cutlet to buy from them is like four dollars or six dollars

Canadian that's expensive you can just make a bunch of your own which is what I

did and they're so good like they're really really good you guys have to try

them like don't be put off by the fact that they're not like by the fact that

they're vegan or anything for those of you who aren't vegan I know it may be

kind of like oh I'm not gonna like just try it like just try it so good and

they're pretty good calories like around 160 to 180 depending on how big you make

the little patty it's really good so let's go ahead and start making them so

this is what you're gonna need you're gonna need salt obviously it's a

little bit of black pepper garlic onion paprika some fine mixed herbs I just

like this mixed herbs cuz you have a bunch of different herbs in one and then

some chives this is really important it gives a really great flavor paprika is

not that important if you don't have it don't feel like e to run to the store

and grab it I literally use a dash of it I don't think it makes a huge difference

but I use it so yeah and then breadcrumbs actually by the way the way

I got this recipe was what I did was when you buy it from Whole Foods it

actually has an ingredient list because they have to list the ingredients in

case anyone's allergic so all I did was look at the ingredient list and I

literally copied the ingredients like I took the ingredients and I created my

own little recipe because obviously they don't give you like how to make it but

I'm like okay that's what's in it I'm assuming they did that and then they

rolled in the bread like I kind of created the recipe based off of copying

their ingredients so this is almost all the ingredients that were on the actual

whole foods one so anyways some bread crumbs and then you're going to need I

mean you can't really see it I'll show you guys what I actually use it but

you're gonna need some TVP which TVP is textured veggie protein some vinyl wheat

gluten which this is pretty much protein flour has a ton of protein in it and

then you're gonna need some hazelnut meal so hazelnut meal is like hazelnuts

that have been grounded so this whole like burger is pretty much a hazelnut

burger it's gonna give you such great flavor but you have to have to have to

toast the meal or toast the hazelnuts like you have to because toasting it it

just brings out this flavor that's undescribable like when you smell it not

toasted or taste it and then you taste it and smell it toasted two completely

different things toasting it really brings out this oh I can't even describe

it amazing you have to toast it i toast mine for about 15 minutes on 3:15 and

then back here you have some nutritional yeast oh also you're gonna need a little

bit of soy sauce let me grab that from

here so the soy sauce in combination with the nutritional yeast gives them a

little bit of that meaty flavor so the whole foods one they actually use um

yeast extract which I purchased a yeast extract and it's just so thick that I

feel like I would have to like like it's just easier to work with

using the soy sauce and the nutritional yeast so that's just what I do but you

can also use yeast extract instead of these two in combination but this is

what I use I use the all-purpose liquid soy seasoning from this brand so make

sure you're using this brand and not other soy sauces because other soy

sauces have more calories in this one this one is just healthier it's a

natural soy sauce but what's good about this one is it's literally zero calories

like a zero whereas I think the other like regular brand soy sauce by VH is

ten calories and you may not think that's a big deal but once it adds up

let's say you use a couple splashes you'll have a good 30 calories of the

other one whereas you can literally have zero of this one and I believe there's

less sodium in this one I believe I'm not 100% sure it's just better to get

this brand where as opposed to like the regular conventional brand and did I

mention barley flour so barley flour is not a real need the only reason I

brought it out for today is one because the actual ingredient list from the

whole foods ones has barley flour but I personally don't find that you need it

instead of the barley flour I just add more of the wheat gluten protein flour

because this one has more protein in it whereas that one doesn't have as much

and this one is less calories I believe okay so I just checked so no they're the

same calories but this one has three grams of protein for 110 calories this

has 23 grams of protein for 120 calories so your this is protein flour so instead

of using that I just replace it with using more of this but I'm kind of

running low on it today so I think I'm probably gonna need some of that as a

backup but yeah I just know if you're making this recipe just use this as the

flour forget that I'm just using that today cause I'm running low on this hope

I didn't make that confusing you're also going to need a bowl a big one because I

like to make as much as possible when I do these I mean really you could make

more like I make around 18 to 20 you can make more but it gets

exhausting like making the patties and pressing them down after a while 20 is

like my max out because after 20 I'm like exhausted so yeah I just use a

really big bowl and you also want to start preheating the oven I'm gonna

preheat it to 400 degrees actually I forgot we have to make the little

breadcrumb mixture so let's just do that first so I'm gonna use a scale only

because I have to transfer my measurements from grams to like just a

cup just so that I don't want to pull the scale up every time so I'm gonna do

that now 25 grams of breadcrumbs to make 9

cutlets but I want to make double that so I'm gonna do 50 grams of breadcrumbs

I want to see how many grams of breadcrumbs would be in a cup so that I

don't have to use this scale every time so this is a half a cup scoop let's see

ok so just under half a cup this is like leftover the scale says 55 and then I'm

going to put 30 grams of hazelnuts so let's see this is a quarter cup scoop so

let's see that so I want to change this so that I know how to just use the scoop

so I'm not using the scale every time

okay so that's like 20 so you want to just use like a heaping quarter cup

sometimes I just like to use a whisk because it mixes it all evenly add a

little bit of salt I just kind of eyeball this it's a burger anyway so you

don't need that much salt cuz you're gonna have like ketchup on that mayo and

stuff so I mean you can't really go wrong you just don't want to make them

too salty obviously and then some garlic this really gives flavor so I like to

put a decent amount a little bit of onion flakes just a little bit and then

the dried chives

this is what we're gonna kind of go and bread the cutlets in so I'm gonna put

that aside for now so you're gonna need about four cups of filtered water I

forgot to mention I do use a little bit of oil but I don't put a lot because

honestly obviously you know the calories so I just put like the tiniest amount

about a teaspoon so then I'm gonna put a little bit of soy sauce now I do eyeball

this but be careful with the soy sauce it is high sodium so because this is

high sodium you don't need a lot of salt but I still put a little bit you know

but you just don't you know let me just be careful with a table thing like I

said it's a burger so it doesn't have to be like you know that's salty it's okay

if it's under salted cuz you're not even gonna really notice but you'll notice if

it's over salted so just be careful I guess you can kind of tell how much I'm

using I just use a few splashes this is really what gives it like a bit of that

meaty flavor in combination with a nutritional yeast that's why I prefer to

use just use more of that and less of the salt it's a little bit of salt you

are spreading this out between like 18 to 20 burgers so now I know this is

weird but if you ever want to tell if your food is salty enough without having

to taste it I like to smell it I know that's like a weird but I can always

like what I smell a recipe I can tell if it needs more salt so I don't know if

that might work for you guys too then you're gonna put some garlic powder

quite a bit because it's really what is gonna give it that flavor onion onion

flakes or onion powder a little bit of paprika it just gives it a tiny bit of

color a little bit of black pepper

some finer herbs you don't want to put a lot of that and then the dried chives

I really just freestyle this part so now you have like your flavored water really

doesn't matter what order you put everything in I just like to do this

first so now we're gonna take our TVP so this like I said is textured veggie

protein so actually the first thing I'm gonna do before the TVP is add some of

the nutritional yeast I'm gonna use about two tablespoons remember what I'm

doing right now is making 20-round 20 cutlets so if you don't want to make

that many you just want to start off just take the measurements and cut them

in half so now I'm going to add two cups of TVP okay so I just change the camera

to give you guys like a bit of a higher view so you can actually see the inside

a little bit better so now we need about three cups of the vital wheat gluten I

don't think I'm gonna have three cups I gotta buy more from Whole Foods by the

way I get all of these ingredients from Whole Foods so I think obviously when I

run out of this I'm just going to use the barley flour

you

so one more cup of flour you don't want the burgers like the cutlets to have too

much moisture in them so that's why I like you need like if you notice there's

too much water just add more flour or add more TVP okay so before and say it's

mixing I'm going to add some hazelnuts I'm gonna pop out the scale again cuz it

says a hundred grams of hazelnuts and now you're pretty much just gonna mix

everything together so I'm smelling it and it smells really good but I feel

like it needs a little bit more garlic and then a little bit more soy sauce so

the mixture is - like moist I could just tell by like hearing it I can tell

there's a little bit too much water in it so instead of using the flour because

this is like healthier than the flour the it's like higher in protein so

instead of using the flour to soak up the water I'm gonna use a little bit

more TVP but I feel like you might still be bad ok and this is what you are going

to be left with it almost looks like ground meat it doesn't have like a

little bit of a weird sticky texture but just ignore the texture because once you

make the patties and you bake them they just taste delicious ok so now is when

you're gonna get your hands dirty so make sure that they're clean of course

because you're gonna start making the patties so I like to I bought this some

burger empresa from Amazon it just helps like press it down but you honestly

don't need it I have made these before without it but it does help I will leave

it links down below for you guys but yeah you're pretty much gonna roll the

patties on your own I kind of eyeball it because I know how much 80 to 90 grams

is already but you only want to make about 80 to 90 gram balls because that's

what's going to be about 160 let me get this over here about 160 to about 180

calories if you go over that you're obviously going to make them too big so

what I like to do is just shape it in a ball and then you can kind of press it

down flat for those of you that don't have a burger press you don't really

need it per se so now I will just coat it and roll it up in the breadcrumbs and

then I do have a pan already ready for the oven

with a piece of parchment paper to lay these all out on so here's an example

using the press so you just put that in there

and press it down and there you go so I'm just gonna roll it up by hand today

so as you can see I've made about 12 of them and that's all that fits on the pan

so I'm going to roll the rest of them here on another pan but for now here's

what fits on this one now what I like to do before I put it in the oven is just

take a little bit of spray oil now I'll just spray it over them and that way the

oil will kind of let it get a little bit fried almost but like in the oven

obviously since you're making that so now we're just gonna put it in the oven

and now they're just gonna sit there for about 15 minutes on each side 15 20

minutes on each side so this is how they look at when they're done I just have

the rest of them baking in the oven so in total I made 20 burgers how delicious

do they look I'm actually gonna make one right now for lunch and I'll show you

guys how it looks once it's made and there it is how yummy

does this look you guys you have to have to have to try these hazelnut vegan

burgers so YUM so that's pretty much it I hope you guys enjoyed seeing how I

make the hazelnut vegan burgers I'm gonna end this little vlog here I just

pretty much wanted to show you guys this recipe thank you guys for watching and I

will see you guys in my next video okay so before I actually go I realized that

I didn't get to show you guys what the inside of the burger looks like so that

is what it looks like so yummy I'm literally watching gossip girl right now

season 4 episode 6 as I eat this okay now I'm ready bye guys

Man City 1-2 Liverpool: Player Ratings

A memorable 2-1 win over Man City saw Liverpool reach the Champions League semi-finals, and it was a tale of two halves for many heroes in red.

Loris Karius (out of 10) – 7.

The German has been in superb form of late, and he had a decent night at the Etihad, even though he played a part in the Reds falling behind early.

His throw-out to Virgil van Dijk was completely needless, with Gabriel opening the scoring soon after, but he recovered well.

It was an otherwise faultless display, and he looks such a confident figure these days, especially from crosses.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 8.

Restored to the side after a rest at Everton on Saturday, Alexander-Arnold was given a stern examination by Leroy Sane but passed with flying colours.

Despite a first-half yellow card, he stuck to his task admirably, and his quality on the ball was also highlighted by one fantastic cross-field pass.

At 19, this lad has an unbelievable future ahead of him.

Dejan Lovren – 9.

The much-maligned centre-back produced one of his best ever performances for Liverpool, on a colossal night for him.

Aerially he was superb, his focus was absolutely spot on, and barring one reckless lunge on Raheem Sterling, all facets of his game were immaculate.

He will never be loved, but even his most ardent critics should raise a glass to him tonight.

Virgil van Dijk – 8.

Van Dijk was bought to star on nights such as these, and like so many, he grew in stature after a shaky start.

He was at fault for Jesus goal, not playing to the whistle after a possible foul by Sterling, but he switched on soon after and proved to be a rock.

The 26-year-old will have better games, but given the occasion and the early setback, he shone once again for his new club.

Andrew Robertson – 7.

Liverpools likeable Scot returned to the team, and he was actually fairly unnoticed, particularly in an attacking sense.

He dealt increasingly well with the dangerous Bernardo Silva as the minutes passed and again showed that the defensive side of his game is vastly underrated.

What a brilliant signing he has been.

Gini Wijnaldum – 8.

This was a huge night for Wijnaldum in the absence of Jordan Henderson and Emre Can, deployed in the No.6 role.

It was a Jekyll and Hyde evening for the Dutchman, who was completely dominated by Citys midfield in the opening 45 minutes, but shone so bright after the break.

He eventually took the game by the scruff of the neck, playing a key role in Mohamed Salahs all-important strike, and using the ball expertly and made crucial tackles and interceptions.

After so much criticism about going missing away from home, this was a redemption story.

James Milner – 9.

The veteran lined-up against his former club, and he was both sensational and a strong contender for Man of the Match.

Like his fellow midfielders, he had to be criticised for being bossed in the first-half, but his immense character was forever on show.

Blocks were made, intelligent passes were produced and every ounce of his experience came to the fore as the match wore on.

He will never be fashionable, but on nights such as these, you want Milner on the pitch.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 8.

One of the heroes of the first leg at Anfield, Oxlade-Chamberlain was disappointing before the interval and exceptional after it.

He came the closest to scoring for Liverpool in the first-half, but was also wasteful, prior to an energetic, influential second period.

What a different player to the one who flattered to deceive at Arsenal.

Mohamed Salah – 7.5

There were fears over Salah missing the game through injury, but he was named in the starting lineup, much to our delight.

The Egyptian superstar was never at his best throughout, perhaps not firing on all cylinders fitness-wise, but he made the difference yet again for the Reds.

His superb finish, his 39th goal of the season, all but ended the tie as a contest – the truly world-class players show up when it really matters.

Sadio Mane – 8.

Celebrating his 26th birthday, Mane was one of Liverpools brightest attacking sparks, always looking a threat and working his socks off.

He burst through in the lead-up to Salahs goal, arguably deserving to win a penalty, and was a constant outlet on whichever flank was operating from.

Such a likeable figure, too.

Roberto Firmino – 8.

By his unbelievably high standards, Firmino hasnt been at his absolute best in the last few weeks, but he was far more noticeable on an unforgettable evening for Jurgen Klopps side.

His work-rate was as astonishing as ever, even if he did risk picking up a second yellow card, and he was so calm and composed in tight areas.

Used on the left-hand side for much of the night, this was the definition of a selfless performance, and he rounded things off with an inch-perfect finish to earn Liverpool the win.

Starting XI Average Rating: 8. 13 .

Manager. Jurgen Klopp – 10.

What a manager Klopp is.

Granted, his players struggled to respond to his tactics in the first-half, but under far lesser bosses, Liverpool would have wilted under the pressure.

You couldnt fault his starting lineup in the slightest, and he clearly produced a huge team talk at half-time, getting a much more measured performance from his team in the second-half.

A Champions League semi-final within three years of taking charge – wow!.

5 talking points from Man City 1-2 LFC - Panic stations, Salah the saviour & back in Europe's elite - Duration: 7:03.

5 talking points from Man City 1-2 LFC - Panic stations, Salah the saviour & back in Europe's elite

Liverpool are through to the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time in 10 years after beating Man City in the second leg and on aggregate.

1. Elation, despair and its not all about kick-off.

Ahead of kick-off there were scenes of jubilation on social media as fans celebrated Mohamed Salahs name on the team-sheet as if it meant hed already scored ahead of kick-off.

His return, along with Andrew Robertsons, was of course important—but within two minutes of the actual game starting, that positivity was gone.

Football, especially at this level and this stage of the competition, plays havoc with emotions like little else on the planet.

It was immediately desperation, struggle, clinging on for the half-time whistle—despite still being two goals to the good!.

The match as a whole serves as a reminder that nothing is won early on, nothing is settled in the opening 10 minutes, and as the Reds grew more into the match it was more and more apparent just how good the team has become.

It was a point Klopp made during his post-match press conference, emphasising the lesson learned and the recovery from that early onslaught.

2. This imperative new resilience.

City dominated the first half like few other teams have managed this season, even including Liverpool themselves against some teams.

The pressure was relentless, their passes forward-thinking… but really, after Jesus opening goal, they created very little.

Bernardo Silva hit the post with a great strike, Leroy Sane had a goal wrongly disallowed after a fortuitous deflection fell his way.

Thats it; not just for the first half, but for the entire 180 minutes of the two-legged tie.

Crosses were dealt with, runs behind the full-backs were tracked almost without exception, deliveries were blocked or headed clear, repetitively and at times with great bravery.

All of this is a sea-change from Liverpool of earlier this season, or last year, or indeed for about half-a-dozen campaigns previous.

A solid defence is a critical part of a successful team and the Reds have now put the foundations in place to have one of their own.

3. Killer instinct.

As much defensive work as Jurgen Klopps team had to get through in the first half, he knew perfectly well his team would get chances during the game.

And Liverpool would probably have to take one of them.

Going with three forwards was brave, certainly not something every manager would have done in an away leg when three goals up, but Klopps prediction was spot-on.

The Reds had to bide their time, but when they got chances, they took them.

Salahs equaliser utterly deflated Citys players, and it was just about the first real chance Liverpool had managed to create on the night.

When Bobby Firmino followed up with a second, it was game over, but it was also the clearest opening either team had managed to create in the second half.

Liverpool, ultimately, were better than Man City in both penalty boxes.

4. Auditions.

Yes, this game was about getting through to the semi-finals.

And yes, this season is about achieving success and memorable moments for this very campaign.

But make no mistake, its also about staking a longer-term claim for positions at the club, making a case for future inclusion when transfers will inevitably strengthen the squad, this summer and beyond.

So its another big moment in the reemergence of Loris Karius as first-choice goalkeeper, another reminder from James Milner that he has much to offer.

He, particularly, has been immense in 2018.

Gini Wijnaldum also made another case for the role he could play last term; with Naby Keita incoming, game time as a No.8 might be at a premium—but hes played very well once more as the deepest midfielder.

And Klopp himself once more reinforced his credentials as one of the games very top bosses, someone many, many top players would love to come and play for.

5. Number Six?.

Barcelona are out. Manchester City are out. Liverpool are through.

AS Roma are there too, improbably and impressively, while Real Madrid are likely to join them and the fourth semi-finalist should be Bayern Munich over Sevilla.

May 26, book it in now and dont make plans—because Liverpool are going to be there, and Liverpool are going to win it.

The momentum, the excitement, that relentless sense of belief sparking memories of Olympiacos, of Juventus and Chelsea…they are all growing again.

And with reason: Klopp is going to win No.6

What Did She Do?! ⎮ ASL Stew Life - Duration: 10:14.

♫ ♫ ♫

Ohhhh... good morning!

Today is Thursday.

Haven't really vlogged much,

but over the weekend MY parents came and my grandma came.

Hold on... better.

So didn't really vlog with them here because we were focusing on family.

Mikko had a little bit of a hard time with so many people staying.

But it was fine. I'm really happy that they came.

Hopefully we'll see them again in June.

Hopefully... uh we'll be going to their home.

My grandma lives there too.

Hopefully we'll stay for a week.

Yeah... uh oh!

Anyways... right now it's a mess. (laughs)

But um...

Mikko... well a lot's been happening with Mikko and us

and just a lot of changes coming.

I have so much anxiety I cried this morning.

Right now Mikko is in a disposable diaper.

I'll explain more about that later when he actually takes a nap.

But right now we just had breakfast

and I'm playing with him and blah, blah, blah.

See you for the rest of the day!

Plus I might vlog tomorrow because a big change might be happening...

maybe... if I'm brave enough, but we'll see.

Hey... better?

Better... better lighting.

Anyways, um...

I wanted to talk about... you know what, let me sit down.

Hold on.

So I wanted to explain why Mikko is in a disposable diaper and all that.

I'm still gonna make a video related to cloth diapering

but right now he's in a disposable diaper because

we just had a bunch of size 1 diapers that were given to us

and opened them up and then put them away and never used them.

So I was trying to consider if maybe

if the shelter would accept open diapers.

If we could donate some there, but for right now

we're just using them up you know.

So I put him in the disposable.

He's like 1 pound away from the max limit so they barely fit him,

but we'll just use them for now.

But, anyways like I mentioned

there's... I'm having a lot of anxiety and problems

I think most of my anxiety of related to... well Mikko.

Not that he's a bad baby or anything, cause he's not.

He's a wonderful baby, knock on wood

But um... no.

But... um...

right now I'm still on maternity leave

and I'm suppose to continue that until June.

Um, sorry I mean until July. Like probably...

mid July or so.

Sorry it's Claire.

No

So right n.... no!

Sorry she almost hit the camera.

So like I said, I'm on maternity leave and it's suppose to be until mid-July

but um...

there is a possibility... maybe...

that I'm going to be doing work from home. It's going to be interpreting.

So that would mean

if I get the job

it would be for extra money.

then that would mean

right now once I can legally start working,

I would need at least 2 days a week of someone taking care of Mikko

because I'd have to work during the day.

So that means at least 2 days a week

someone would be taking care of him and then hopefully

the other half of a day

we can stay here and figure out that care

So if I get that job,

then I'd probably start in May,

that'd be 2 months earlier, or really 1 1/2 months

than what I thought.

So I think that's causing me quite a lot of anxiety

Just thinking about...

maybe moving one day in the future.

I really want to move close to family

but it's expensive because

we'd be moving close to Jenna's family in Northern VA

which is expensive to live there.

Then we'd have to find jobs and do all of that.

So.... that plan is kind of up in the air.

Jenna's job is great. She loves her job.

So to leave that, I don't know.

Not really sure how that would work out.

But anyways, that'd probably be way in the future.

But just a lot of anxiety right now

and trying to figure out what to do.

When to prepare the house.

Because if I work from home and I get that job,

um...

then we have to get daycare

and either way...

wether I'm doing work from home now,

or just waiting until I'm back at RIT later,

either way I'm gonna have to find care for him

and um... for Mikko.

Which, just the thought of someone else taking care of him

other than me or Jenna just.. ugh!

Like this Saturday, which today is Thursday

so in two days

we're gonna have someone babysit him for the first time.

Just for a few hours.

We'll be going to RIT for a panel.

Might be awake.

Okay well I've got to cut this short.

Anyways, Saturday will be the first time he's having a babysitter,

not the two of us.

So freaking me out and he's kicking and screaming

so I need to go get the baby.

See you soon.

Could you see that? All of that snow.

Hopefully not too much because I decided

I think my big change I might do tonight.

But, I don't know, if it's snowing horribly

maybe we'll have to wait

cause I need to drop Mikko off with Jenna...

when she's done with work.

So we will see!

So there was all of that.

♫ ♫ ♫

So yep, I'm back in the closet. (laughs)

Like I said, we might be losing our closet,

So right now I took all of the shelving out,

all of the clothes out, everything and they're in the guest bedroom.

It's a mess. You don't want to see it.

But, I'm trying to take all of these out of the wall.

Right.... here!

All... over here.

Gotta get all those out.

So it's probably... hopefully gonna do that this weekend.

But that's what I'm working on now.

Because if we lose our closet

for some reason... um

which I'll inform you later.

Then... even if we don't,

I want to put stuff back in the closet,

but I want to change it anyways. So I'm taking out this

and then we'll probably cover this up with putty

and then paint it.

Probably not doing all that this weekend, but some of it.

Now I need to eat lunch and hopefully Mikko stays sleeping

cause he already woke up once.

Mikko was sleeping in his crib and then kind of freaked out

so I brought him downstairs

and then he got really crabby.

So I kind of just held him and he slept for over an hour!

I just put him on the couch

cause I need to change his diaper and feed him,

but he's still sleeping.

♫ ♫ ♫

Hello, okay say goodbye to my hair!

Yup say goodbye hair!

Sorry, it is the next day.

I totally forgot to film after I got my haircut but this is it.

So that's what it looks like. It's a little bit greasy right now.

So there's that.

Anyways, the rest of the night I pretty much came home,

made dinner really quick and then

rocked Mikko, put him to sleep,

and that was about it.

I was pretty tired.

So hopefully you enjoyed the day.

I'm gonna try and film this weekend because

cause like I said today is Friday.

Tomorrow is Saturday and the two of us are going to be presenting

for Colorfest at RIT.

It's for LGBTQIA+ parenting.

So that. Should be fun and the first time he'll have a babysitter.

I definitely want to film that.

Alright see you later. Bye!

Tasty One Top Review | Smartphone Enabled Induction Hot Plate - Duration: 10:13.

[Theme from 'The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly']

This....f*ckin' machine.

uh... [laughs]

A couple months ago, the Buzzfeed offshoot brand "Tasty"

entered the wild wild west of ridiculous smart appliances

when they released their "One Top" induction hot plate.

Look, I love Tasty as a brand, I love their videos, their recipes,

hell, they basically pioneered an entire genre of cooking video

with their whole 'disembodied hand, birds' eye view' thing going on.

Um, and I copy that all the time, so I can't say shit.

But, this particular appliance was honestly just way more trouble than it was worth.

I should mention that I previously put out a video where I unboxed this thing,

but I couldn't get it to work because I'm a dumbass and didn't realize what induction cooking means.

Since this is an induction cooktop, it requires a pan that a magnet would stick to.

So I went out, bought a cast-iron pan, and now I can actually try cooking that steak again.

But - a different steak; it's not the same steak, that would be disgusting.

Despite correcting my mistake, using this thing was still kind of a f*cking nightmare.

Once I finally got it working, I attempted three different recipes,

and uh, basically just discovered several major flaws that still remain within the app and with the device itself.

My biggest, number one issue is probably this:

[One Top shuts off]

[Lindsay] Oh, shit!

[One Top turns on again]

[Lindsay sighs deeply]

it just kept shutting off on me.

It tripped the power strip it was plugged into, it shut off when it was plugged into the wall; it was just insane.

And the problem just becomes even worse when coupled with a multi-step recipe.

The next recipe I tried was a classic marinara sauce.

This was probably the most successful of the three recipes, but I use the term successful pretty loosely here.

I do have to take a moment here to appreciate

the additional one-top compatible recipes they seem to have added since I last took a look at the app;

and I also noticed a functionality I missed last time -

there's a really nice feature that they have that allows you to look at the ingredients

and export that directly into a shopping list,

Which, in theory, is great!

This is the entire setup that I have

to film this video.

And this is my - my third attempt at making just simple pasta sauce.

Just pasta sauce, this is my third try.

And that's because, all of a sudden, when you look at the app,

it shows you all of the ingredients,

and then for no reason it springs on you 'Oh the first step, by the way, cook an onion'.

Onion is not...on the ingredients list.

There's no onion on that list!

Clearly, it seems like they accidentally just forgot that ingredient when putting everything into the app

for that particular recipe, but it has a pretty catastrophic domino effect on everything else,

because without the onion, the app was forcing me to cook just garlic by itself in a pan for five minutes at 350°

which is just not going to work.

[One Top shuts off again, turning off my lights in the process]

You can't skip the timer, and because it's induction cooking, if you take the pan off the heat,

to let the timer run down, the heating element shuts off because it knows the pan isn't there anymore.

So, essentially, you are f*cked.

Alright, so here it is, the fabled onion that we're supposedly supposed to know to put in this sauce

even though it's not on the ingredients list.

My solution was to put the pan on the heating, let it sit there for about four and a half minutes,

and just run down the timer, and then throw the garlic in in the last thirty seconds.

Still not ideal whatsoever but I did manage to at least put the rest of the components in and finish the recipe.

[One Top shuts off....again.]

You know if the power stops or whatever and it disconnects with the One Top,

you can't just go ahead and restart the recipe from where you - from where you were.

You basically...

have to restart it all over again, so like that five minute countdown I wasted five minutes of my life on,

waiting for it to get down to thirty seconds,

uh....doesn't matter I have to do it again now, I can't skip that step,

Even though I now have a pan full of wine-y, uh, tomato paste-y, garlic mixture.

So...that is also extremely not helpful in this situation.

The last thing I tried was the caramelized French Toast recipe,

which is actually one of the more complex recipes in the app.

I'm on my final recipe that I wanted to try, which is the caramel french toast.

Can you guys tell I've given up yet?

So, this brown sugar was like hard as f*ck, uh so I put it in the microwave to soften it up a bit,

but it was still pretty brick-hard and I didn't want to melt it, so

I'm just kind of softening it up right now in this step that they're telling me to do

uh, to let the pan preheat and whisk all this stuff together.

um, while I wait for that to happen,

and like, their demonstration of it is very cute,

and they uh, they even like whisk the actual f*cking spices in - I mean

they, they like use a microplane for the f*cking nutmeg, like, COME ON bitch, really?

um, anyways, I'm just sitting here,

lovingly hand-breaking up this brown sugar into this mixture.

So it's all good, you know?

Having a really good time.

Um [laughs]

God knows if I'll ever actually put this video out

like, it's kinda funny, like....

...I don't know.

Oh my god [laughs]

So it just did it again, it just tripped this, this uh, this power strip over here.

Just so you know it is the only thing that is plugged into this outlet.

Um, the lights, which in truth aren't actually that powerful,

are plugged into separate outlets here...

and here.

maybe I just don't know enough about electricity.

Oh my god.

And it does this bullsh*t again with the timer which is going to kill me.

Oh Christ. Okay, here we go.

I'm just gonna start it now,

lest it decides to fuck me over royally later.

This is, uh... kind of a hot mess, but here we go boi.

So uh, these ones are a little bit questionable on the backside,

this one's a little bit burnt,

um, just because the pan was a little overcrowded at the beginning, but these actually look good.

Which I'm...pretty happy with.

Just trying to get a nice color on - oh, shit - on both sides, and then we'll be done.

All things considered this one actually didn't do too bad either -

until the f*ckin thing shut off.

Just tripped the switch again - AGAIN!

Jesus.

And, since I can't skip steps when I go to resume the recipe after it shut off,

I just had to finish cooking it on my stovetop so I didn't burn the shit out of it.

Overall, the recipes are amazing, they're all delicious, and I have no complaints.

But, if you're trying to cook it on this thing, uh, it's probably gonna be more difficult than less.

The fact that you can't skip steps is insane to me.

Just like...what if the power goes out? What if it gets unplugged?

What if it keeps shutting off for no reason, like mine did?

You know, it forces you to basically restart the whole recipe.

I can't even use it as a regular hot plate because it shuts off after using it for like ten minutes.

I don't know if other people have had issues with it shutting off like mine did,

but, uh, you cannot blame me for the absolute f*ckery going on in that app,

In a review from a professional chef for Wired magazine,

even THEY were forced to finish some of the recipes on their stovetop

because the One Top was acting strangely.

Hopefully, most of these issues can be fixed by updating the app itself,

since that is really where most of the issues came from for me.

I think my particular unit was defective since it kept shutting off, but

I'm really not penalizing them for that,

I think my main beef is with the app.

Unfortunately, this wasn't a great experience with the One Top,

I really don't think I ever want to look at this thing again,

But, uh, the recipes have always been amazing,

Tasty has always made great videos, and recipes, and just had these great ideas surrounding food

and just kind of changed the whole game in that way.

Which I love, but, uh...

Maybe just cook their recipes on a regular stove.
