Nikon will introduce the new AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f5.6 PL lens this year.

Although the exact announcement date is unknown, we can say that the telephoto prime lens might

become official before the Photokina 2018 event.

As of February 2018, Nikon had a new patent on this lens.

According to the information, the length of the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f5.6 PL was expressed

as 33cm.

For comparison, the Nikon 600mm f4E FL ED VR lens is 43cm long and the Nikon 300mm f4E

PF ED VR is 14cm long.

What does Phase Fresnel (PF) mean in Nikon lenses?

The PF (Phase Fresnel) lens, developed by Nikon, effectively compensates chromatic aberration

utilizing the photo diffraction phenomenon.

It provides superior chromatic aberration compensation performance when combined with

a normal glass lens.

Compared to many general camera lenses that employ an optical system using the photorefractive

phenomenon, a remarkably compact and lightweight body can be attained with less number of lens

elements.

Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f5.6 PL Lens to be Announced Before Photokina 2018.

The new Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f5.6 PL lens has been significantly reduced compared to

the existing 600mm f4 version weighing 3.8kg and is expected to be more affordable.

The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f5.6 PL lens, smaller and lighter companion when used with

the Nikon D850, can already be said to be the ideal duo for many wildlife photographers.
