A place in the Champions League semi-finals is up for grabs but Liverpool should not fear Man City's presence at Anfield.
If it bleeds, we can kill it.
Undefeated. 28 goals scored.
Three of the competitions top nine scorers.
Second-fewest goals-against record currently in the competition.
These are not the achievements of our opponents who are being hailed by the media and instated as the favourites for this tie, but rather Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side who are well and truly on the up.
The all-English Champions League encounter pits Liverpool against Pep Guardiola's thrilling City outfit, and whilst the Premier League leaders are merely a victory away from tying up the title, we have nothing to fear.
The invincibility and aura which has enveloped City this season has been rightfully earned, yet their arrival on Merseyside will turn all of that on its head and instead see Liverpool and Anfield appointed as the safeguards of the first leg.
From my point of view, it is ours to lose.
It does not stem from naivety to City's capabilities but rather the undying belief that Liverpool, under the tutelage of Klopp, have made Anfield a fortress which serves as an advantage that City cannot return in kind.
The smallest of margins will decide both encounters, with away goals set to be key in progressing into the semi-final.
Yet, for all of City's achievements this season a cup tie of this magnitude is a whole new ball game and if it bleeds, we can kill it.
And here's why. Lack of Mystique.
Unlike the remaining clubs in the quarter-final stage, we play City at least twice a year and as such the mystique and the feeling of the unknown was quashed as soon as our fate in the draw was decided.
A sense of apprehension may have enveloped a tie with another member of the last eight but having both felt the brunt of City's all-out attack and inflicted their first league defeat of the campaign, we should be well informed as to all possible eventualities.
Guardiola's men have an air of invincibility, a unique attribute which forces teams to concede defeat before a ball is kicked.
A sign of champions.
They have been overcome on just four occasions which is a testament to their star-studded squad.
Whilst City have the tenacity and experience to have moved on from their sole league defeat at our hands, Liverpool's victory over Guardiola's men provided a confidence boost which cannot be understated.
Thinking you can beat City is one thing but knowing you already have is another.
Liverpool will know our visitors are most comfortable in possession, using quick transitional play to spring their front three into action.
The increased level of knowledge and detail which comes with facing a domestic foe will play into the hands of both sides, as neither manager will be willing to alter their style of play.
Thus, City may be the domestic kings but ahead of their second quarter-final in this competition they don't have the aura of a European powerhouse, at least not yet.
That title remains with us.
Our absence may have blurred the memories of our rivals but our 13th quarter-final appearance in the European Cup lends itself to a pedigree which is deeply entrenched into the club's fabric.
Jurgen Klopp.
The manager boasts an impressive record in his meetings with Guardiola having won six of their 12 encounters to date in a rivalry which ignited when the pair were at Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich respectively.
Klopp has managed to expose his opposite manager's system by isolating Guardiola's key players and our meeting at Anfield in January was a perfect example of how our pressing game forced City to crumble.
Having all but cut the strings to their pivot in front of defence (Fernandinho) and used our front three to squeeze City's back line, we were on the front foot and capable of attacking—unlike Guardiola's pressing style which looks to recycle the ball once possession is regained.
Although City have a superior squad to call upon, Klopp has proved countless times that his tactics—when deployed to a tee—can bridge a gap that appears unbridgeable.
His ethos of a champion team will always defeat a team of champions' is key to our success due to our inability to compete pound-for-pound.
Guardiola's a mastermind in his own right and if we are to set up the deciding game at the Etihad next week in our favour, then tonight's game will hinge on our ability to be greater than the sum of our parts.
Anfield Is Our Fortress.
It's not a secret or an illusion: Anfield is a hunting ground which spares no visiting player; a cauldron of deafening noise which reverberates from every corner.
Like a series of unfortunate events, one cannot prepare for the overload of sensory input as tens of thousands of Kopites use their voices, scarfs and flags to will Liverpool to victory.
A Premier League match is unrivalled by the passion on show on European nights as the noise floods onto the pitch and causes the very best of players to crumble under the immense pressure.

After holding the Premier League champions at Stamford Bridge, the Reds claimed the initiative when Garcia's shot was ruled to have crossed the line despite William Gallas' clearance.

Liverpool held on but lived on their nerves, with Damian Duff close to a critical away goal in added time.

Liverpool produced a stunning late recovery to see off the Gunners as the two sides served up a classic in their third encounter in the space of six days.
After a 1-1 draw in the first leg, Abou Diaby put Arsenal ahead before Sami Hyypia and Fernando Torres turned the tie in Liverpool's favour.
The next twist came six minutes from time as Emmanuel Adebayor's strike put Arsenal in front on away goals but a Steven Gerrard penalty and late Ryan Babel effort won it in a dramatic finale.
Manchester United 1-1 Chelsea (Man Utd won 6-5 on penalties), 2008 – Final.
United claimed European glory after a pulsating clash in Moscow that finished well after 1am local time.
Cristiano Ronaldo headed United in front after 26 minutes but Frank Lampard levelled.
Lampard and Didier Drogba then hit the woodwork before the latter was sent off following a clash with Nemanja Vidic.
Ronaldo missed from the spot as the game went to penalties but John Terry then slipped and hit the post with what would have been the winning kick.
Edwin van der Sar's save from Nicolas Anelka then proved decisive.
Chelsea 4-4 Liverpool (agg: 7-5), 2009 – Quarter-Finals.
After meeting in the semi-finals in three of the previous four seasons—and the group stages in the other—Liverpool and Chelsea clashed again in the last eight.
Chelsea seemingly had this one won after taking the first leg 3-1 at Anfield but Liverpool replied early in the return with a Fabio Aurelio free-kick and Xabi Alonso penalty.
Chelsea stormed back with goals from Drogba, Alex and Lampard but further Liverpool efforts from Lucas and Dirk Kuyt set up a nail-biting ending.
One more away goal would have put Liverpool ahead in the tie but Lampard settled Chelsea nerves late on.
Arsenal 1-3 Manchester United (agg: 1-4), 2009 – Semi-Finals.
United powered past the Gunners to reach the final with one of their most commanding European displays.
Already 1-0 up from the first leg, United powered away with a Park Ji-sung strike and Ronaldo free-kick in the early stages at the Emirates Stadium.
Ronaldo added another on the hour before Robin van Persie scored a penalty consolation for Arsenal.

Andy Robertson insists Liverpool have no reason to be afraid as they head into their hugely anticipated Champions League clash with Manchester City.
The Merseysiders host the runaway Premier League leaders in the first leg of the glamour tie at Anfield on Wednesday.
City are 16 points clear at the top of the Premier League and on the brink of being crowned champions, but their only loss in a magnificent campaign came at Anfield in January.
Reds left-back Robertson said: I don't think we can be afraid.
They won't be afraid of us and we won't be afraid of them.
They've been the best team in our league this season and are going to win the league, undoubtedly, but this is two games in the Champions League, a one-off.
We have as much right to be in the quarter-finals as they do and there is no seeding in it.
It will be a big occasion.
Their movement is a joy to watch at times, and as a defender you need to be aware of that, but hopefully we'll be attacking as well and we can push them back into areas where they don't want to go.
Liverpool were at their most exhilarating when the teams met in January, scoring three goals in nine blistering second-half minutes to power into a 4-1 lead.
City did pull two goals back late on but it was still a fine display by the Reds and a warning to Pep Guardiola's side.
Robertson, speaking at the pre-match press conference, said: That was probably our most complete performance of the season.
The last 10 minutes were a bit shakier than we wanted but we pressed them all over the field and we took our chances when they came to us at key moments.
That was the key and that will be the key tomorrow.
When chances fall to us we need to be able to take them.
Hopefully more chances will fall to us and we're clinical up top.
If we can do that hopefully we've got a win going into next week.
Liverpool will also hope a fevered Anfield atmosphere can give them an extra edge in the first leg.
Robertson, 24, said: Everyone knows Liverpool fans take to the Champions League very well.
That's probably when they create their most famous atmospheres.
In the Champions League they take it up a level and I am sure that will be the case tomorrow.
Hopefully they create an atmosphere that helps us and we can use that to our advantage.

Put simply: this could be Liverpools biggest European night for a decade.
The Champions League hasnt been a regular enough fixture in the Reds calendar in recent years, but they are officially back at Europes top table, dining out with the very best the continent has to offer.
Having conquered the group stage and breezed past Porto in the last 16, a fantastic City outfit await in the quarters, in a mouthwatering tie.
Pep Guardiolas men have been magnificent this season, cruising towards the Premier League title and playing some of the best football ever produced by an English side.
It is wholly understandable why they go into the two-legged affair as favourites to progress to the semis, but they will be afraid of Liverpool too.
The Reds ended their unbeaten league run back in January, with the eventual 4-3 scoreline kind on City, and Jurgen Klopp has a history of causing Guardiolas teams big problems.
Few sides in Europe are more aesthetically pleasing than these two, and if both hit top gear a deafening Anfield could witness something special.
It is sure to be a night full of tension, quality, drama and maybe even controversy—victory for Liverpool would give them a wonderful chance of making the last four.

Liverpool are without Joe Gomez, Ragnar Klavan, Joel Matip, Emre Can, Ben Woodburn and Adam Lallana on Wednesday.
Matip is set to undergo thigh surgery, likely ending his season, while Lallana picked up a hamstring problem at Crystal Palace at the weekend.
Can has failed to recover from a back injury, which acts as a big blow to Klopp given the 24-year-olds ability to perform in the big games.
Picking the right starting lineup is vital, and the manager has a few key decisions to make.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is likely to continue at right-back, but he has struggled defensively of late and Leroy Sane will be a huge threat.
Nathaniel Clyne is an option.
Dejan Lovren will replace Matip to partner Virgil van Dijk at centre-back, with Klavan also sidelined with a minor problem.
With Can set to miss out Jordan Henderson will be included, meaning there are two more midfield spaces to fill.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlains match-changing second-half cameo at Selhurst Park means he should start, and with Gini Wijnaldum struggling for form James Milner should get the nod.
Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are all fit and firing, and hold the key to Liverpool getting a positive result.
Guardiola has a near fully fit squad to choose from, barring long-term absentees Benjamin Mendy and Fabian Delph.
Sergio Aguero is out, however, likely returning for Saturdays visit of Man United, with a win securing City the Premier League title.
