Hey, everyone! This is LOUD SOUND.
Today we're having a usual review, but the brand is not quite usual.
It's STEG, an Italian brand that belongs to GT Trading.
So does the brand Audio System, btw.
This is a company that goes over 30 years back.
It started off back in 1990's
and for some time, the brand was pretty big
on the Russian Sound Quality market. the SQ-ers knew it really well.
But some time later, it disappeared.
Recently, it's rushed its way back, and brought along a wide assortment
of speakers, processors and some more of the goods
which I'll try to cover today.
This is one of those reviews in which you seem to know what you're talking about
but there are some details that are only encountered here,
some I've never seen elsewhere.
Let's start with the thing
that I, on the one hand, like a lot about Italian amplifiers,
and on the other hand, I hate those things.
It's like... this extremely scrupulous approach to the sound quality
which eventually leads to some absurd things.
For one, the setting is complicated.
It takes quite a brain to set this amp.
I will, however, share some tips today.
Any installers would hopefully find it useful.
The dopest - no, THE DOPEST thing of all the series,
of all the boxes we've unpacked,
of all the items we've examined - are the gloves.
Tbh, I have no clue what these are for.
But we'll wear them today so that we don't leave spots all over the clean amps.
So, before taking a closer look at the amps -
I just wanna start with the true Italian one - the rest are produced in China --
I need to explain how STEG's comeback to Russia was possible.
Actually, it's really expensive Italian hardware.
But GT Trading moved STEG production over to China (almost all the items)
which made it possible to bring it to the Russian market for a lower price.
It's not the lowest. I mean, this hardware ain't cheap.
But there are no over the top prices, except for this one, right?
(and a few more models).
This one is 70k.
The amps come in the line K - competition:
these amps have impeccable sound quality and crazy settings.
We'll see them now. I'll tell everything.
If you've ever come across Italian amps, you know what I'm talking about.
For some reason, this is only an Italian thing.
Next, the ST line. AB-class, more affordable than the K-series.
And the STD series. Compact amps, D-class.
Also more affordable than the K-series.
We got an authentic Italian here. Let's start with it.
Here we see some weird holes.
They are for these thingies.
If we insert this thingie here - it's for 110 Hz -
we get a fixed filtering frequency.
These modules are made to provide higher quality filtering.
But we also have a common option, but it's with set frequencies.
It's not smooth setting but 60, 80, 100 or 120 Hz.
We can see the habitual crossover on/off.
Hi-pass, low-pass.
And this interesting thing here.
This controller turns on the MONO mode
making your amp receive signal from the interblocks only.
And when this mode is on, this cool thing works --
the slope goes from 12 to 24 dB/octave
This here reads: ONLY in MONO.
Why did they make the coolest 2nd to 4th order switch
but kept it only in the MONO mode is a mystery to me.
Also a mystery, why would one take such pains with filters?
I mean, if your system is THAT SQ --
and amps like this are usually used in very SQ systems --
the sys is very likely to be set with a processor.
And the amps are full flat.
We set all the filtering, equalization, time delays etc. from the processor.
Two by 400 W - well, almost half-kW -- is the claim @ 4 Ohm.
It is also claimed to work @ 1 Ohm
putting out about 1.5 kW.
I mean, I would say that this is a piece made by SQ-ers,
but they knew who would use it.
Other amps are way more affordable.
Within the limit of 20-22k you can get the K2.01 and K2.02.
Btw, one more thing I didn't really like about these amps
was the naming. The names leave no clue about how powerful the amp is.
You need to check the manual.
The naming goes upwards.
K2 stands for: K - Competition series, 2 for 2 channels.
And 01, 02, 03 and 04 are the models, low to high power claim.
I think you know enough to agree
that these amps are not like any other amp on the Russian market.
Chinese, Korean, etc.
The Italians have their own concept.
But this is not even the end with the amazing stuff.
If we take out any of the K-series amps,
we'll see this lid.
Unscrew it, and underneath you'll see a button and a slot.
Insert a special plate and push that button -
and the amp starts reading settings from the in-built processor.
All these amps are equipped with...
Even... let's see the box. Here: Micro Processor Onboard.
While I was taking out the box I noticed this one. Also a K, but black,
because this is a 30th Anniversary limited edition.
But this is not the end of all the weirdness.
We have this thingie to hook the amp up with your PC.
Now you can diagnose it,
check the condition, check its operational history.
And that is not all! I've said it one too many times, huh?
This 'That's not all of it' thing.
And there's more coming.
There's this thing. It's for hooking up several amps at once.
For example, if you have 10 amps in your system,
and one of them goes off or glitches, or something's happening to it,
you can hook all of them up together and see the condition simultaneously.
This is top-notch, really cool and... a teeny bit useless, don't you think, Denny?
With this amazing approach to this hardware,
out of all the people I know, it might come in handy to,
well, one out of 100 SQ-ers might use this function.
But they still add it, it's still there.
These are truly smart amps, unique, with some amazing settings,
with a dope sound and... so complicated.
Half of it you'll never use.
If you're buying one of these, you're most likely to have a processor HU
or a separate processor.
Okay, it means you're after impeccable sound quality
which STEG is well known for.
'STEG's not it anymore', 'The Chinese bought STEG', 'It's a knock-off' and so on.
Rumors have been going around a lot lately.
But we ran a spectral analysis, right?
It's still GT Trading, the same one that used to sell them.
It's just that they have now moved their production to China.
I think we'll just shuffle through the ST and DST series.
Okay, let 's see... I saw an interesting 4-channel here.
There's a hi-lvl input.
So you can lead the signal right off the stock system's acoustic wires, for example.
There's a 2/4 channel divisor which is cool.
The lower filters are regular - HPF and LPF.
It also says 'Bandpass' here. I guess it's gonna enable both filters at once.
The upper level, however, has a trick: HPF, Full and Duplicate.
I'm guessing, the latter just copies the lower settings.
Prices, Alex! You never name them. We never understand the pricing! (c)
Let me name the prices for you to see the pic.
Like I said, the most expensive one is ₽70k, these are cheaper - ₽20-22k,
With the DST series the price goes as follows: ₽12k, ₽13k, ₽14k.
All of this here is in stock and available for purchase.
There's more coming, too.
Plus, we're expecting some genuine Italian amps.
But they'll be a bit more expensive, right? A teeeeny bit. Just a teeny bit.
Actually, it's cheaper than an iPhone.
A processor. Nothing noteworthy about it.
Looks really nice.
The assembly is great, just like everything we saw today.
Has an optical input.
Six analog hi-level inputs. Please, note, there are two Remote Outs.
I don't know yet if they go on by default or you need to set them on the processor.
We'll sure get a chance to play around with it.
And eight outputs.
There's also a Rux. Pushable, scrollable. No extra buttons.
I'm thinking it's something like a typical Audison or Hertz.
Anyways, we'll see. It's too early for conclusions.
All I can say for now is it looks really nice.
It's put together really well, and it costs ₽23,800.
Which makes it cheaper than Hertz. But we gotta check the inside.
This is actually a good price for an 8-channel processor.
There are X-overs. Denny, why the heck would you buy X-overs?
You think we'll sell them?
Who buys X-overs in 2018? Btw, check this out.
Zoom in on the attenuator.
See the switch? It's 0 and -3.
Looks like a piece of art. It really is a great thing.
I just think it's the era of processor powered systems now.
But not passive X-overs.
This is rather for those who like to experiment a lot.
Say, someone wants to put together a passive X-over powered system.
One thing I loved about STEG is it got me back to the real SQ.
Seeing an item like this on the market, one put together so well...
but no one needs it today, you see?
Nowadays, they go to China order some amp, a powerful one,
they're gonna sell it anyway,
and make good money off it. Really good money.
And here, this little thing that comes separately,
makes you understand that people still make stuff for true SQ-ers
and there are less of the latter by the day.
I mean, it's the era of video now.
People prefer watching videos for laughs. And those are pretty crappy videos, btw.
But there are still people out there
who appreciate old school. And it's awesome that there's a brand to make stuff for them.
Coming up are masterpieces.
I loved these things a lot.
Let's start with the regular stuff made in high quality.
This is an absolutely regular 2-way.
The only exception is that tweeters have metal cups.
Really nice assembly.
I mean, no flaws in assembly quality nor the outlooks whatsoever.
The speakers are very nice to touch.
The basket is an in-house design.
With some anti-resonance coating and nice cooling.
This model would cost you ₽14,900.
This series is a bit cheaper but the tweeter here looks nicer.
Like, really stylish, right?
In the more expensive kit this wire kinda spoils the looks
while here it's in snakeskin, looks really cool.
The affordable version would be ₽10,300.
Next, separate components. These are neodymium magnet mid-bass speakers.
This series is called Principi. Not sure how to pronounce it, tho. My Italian sucks.
This one costs ₽8800.
The Imperatore series - no clue where to stress. Check out this transparent cone.
Can you see it?
This cone is also made of some rare material
which is mined in very small quantities and look like it's mined outside of our planet.
This one also comes separately, no kit.
The price is ₽10,400 for the component.
The neodymium is hidden behind this nice thingie here.
I don't know if the camera can render this rich color.
This coax is ₽5400. Stamped, right?
Nothing unusual. A small ferrite magnet.
Really nice assembly. Have you heard it? [D]: Yep.
Does it play well?
Well, this is a simple solution for, say, the rear doors.
Or, say, if you need it easy and there's no spot for the tweeter.
The product line also comprises mid-range speakers.
The cheapest one costs ₽8200.
The next up is ₽9900.
And the more expensive one is...
...is ₽13,800.
This is what I've been looking forward to, and many people with me.
This is stock audio upgrade for Mercedes Benz.
For the latest new Mercedes Benz.
The speakers - mid-bass, in particular - are installed in the motor shield.
This makes them sorta subwoofer-like speakers, like, mid-bass ones.
And they are in the front.
This acoustics - a good one - sounds really nice,
because your bass is moved forward.
Everything's with stock plugs.
No need to cut or solder anything.
So, STEG took care, so that you don't need to change your car in any way,
no cutting, no re-modelling.
You just take out the stock acoustics with those teeny ferrite mini-magnets.
You need two of these, two more to go into the motor shield,
and two tweeters. All of it comes separately.
For example, in a 205 C-class, with the lamest audio selected,
you get no tweeters at all.
So you can just install these. So, you buy just the tweeters.
Or you can replace the system completely.
The only question remaining is -
would it be any better than the stock Burmester?
Because, say, with an E-class, an affordable Burmester option costs ₽250k,
an expensive setting is about ₽600k.
In a C-class, an optional audio - a Burmester - costs about ₽80k
and here, a complete set costs about ₽50,000, right?
Well, if you get the full set.
Plus, we'd definitely need a processor and an amp here.
That is a slightly different thing, tho.
I'm gonna do a review on Audiotec Fischer soon,
on the MATCH amps and processors which I already have in both y Mercedeses.
I'm testing them no myself, so to speak.
With this acoustics and a processor and an amp like these,
with no need to cut, model, weld something, etc.
That would be a super cool solution now
on the Mercedes audio upgrading market.
STEG also produces kits like this to install in BMWs.
It actually is quite a big problem at the moment.
You buy a very expensive car
and get really sh*tty music. Like, reeeally sh*tty.
Even if it's Burmester which, basically, sounds okay,
but only if it's in a good model which is optional.
Even in those E-classes for ₽600k, it would sound nice.
In a C, it sounds rather mediocre.
Well, if you compare it to a custom system.
Sure, if you compare it with the lamest setting,
the sound is divine.
In any case, we'll be moving towards that direction.
I think with hardware like this, there's a nice chance
to give the owners of expensive cars some nice quality music.
Mercedes upgrade system is now available at loudsound.ru
I'll post the link in the description, just in case.
BMW is expected in a month.
Is it worth replacing the speakers without the amps? It sure is!
Because what I saw in Mercedes, I mean, it's terrible.
The tweeters have plastic caps and teeny ferrite magnets.
The paper is some crap.
I mean, if you go to China right now and tell them:
'I need to install speakers in an invisible spot in the car
and I want a huge batch of the cheapest ones' --
that is what they install in Mercedes now.
As ugly as it sounds, but stock audio in Mercedes
is for, well, for people who literally only need speakerphone.
Or really drunk ones.
Conclusions.
STEG is great for appreciating true sound quality.
You can see they don't do it just for the money
leaving quality concerns behind.
This is clearly a bunch of SQ-heads still doing what they love.
Or follow the traditions. Or just don't know other ways.
But everything's done with an emphasis on quality.
There are even components you don't really need to produce to make money.
They could've invested that money in producing fuses or interblocks. Am I right, Denny?
I mean, grab some cash, import some Y-cables and make money.
People who produce X-overs are really people who still...
They still believe in Sound Quality.
I've seen a bunch of brands who were, like, 'Screw it all!
The f*ck would I do quality if people keep coming, like,
'I need it pumpin'' or, 'I want it cheap'.
That's it. I mean, out of 1000 customers, there will only be 1 who'd need sound quality.
And STEG - for now! -- but I hope it will go on --
is thinking of them.
And, of course, what gives me the most ups,
what I see to be the future
are those upgrade kits. They are super-amazing.
Lots of practical videos are coming up.
I think you're gonna like the atelier.
It's particularly designed to make cars
in which people wanna change the audio without changing anything else.
Thanks for watching!
This was one of those videos that are for musicmen,
for audio-fans only.
We've been doing a lot of these lately, haven't we?
Actually, I decided not to keep up with the hype.
I know it far too well - you post one trashed video,
it gets about 400-500k views.
You make a news feed video or a hardware review - 100k people watch it.
Sometimes less.
And this video was specially for audio-fans.
Please, if you liked it,
make sure you share it and give it a thumb up.
Lately, things on YouTube have been like this -
it's easier to shit live to get views and create hype.
I hope this video gave you an idea of what the brand STEG is at the moment,
what products it has.

Two Presidents of EMMA Russia in my car, listening to music,
and I don't give a sh*t to the score they give me!
I finally lived up to this moment!
- With Mercedes, you gotta get used to switching tracks.
- With a single mid-bass.
- Huh? - It's playing with a single mid-bass.
With only one mid-bass.
Kostya tore it down to the f*ck!
You what, just make sure you don't break the...
The lighting is still working, I hope?
- I hope, too.
Yep. Well, let at least the lighting work. The rest I don't give a crap.
