My name is Douglas Moyo
I come from Bulawayo in Zimbabwe.
Its been almost 8 years since I moved here
but I have been in South Africa for about 26 years.
When I left my home in Zimbabwe,
I got my first job in Petersburg (Polokwane)
where I was employed as a salesman at a wooden products shop
One day, a customer came in and said....
they were looking for some very specific type of benches
I asked him to show me what he was talking about when I was that it was patio benches
when i saw them, I said to him, this is what I do best.
He then asked me
if I was ok with moving to Schomansville in the Hartbeespoort Dam area
to make the benches for him
That's how I came to live here.
In 1994, while i was at school,
We started doing woodwork as a subject
The teacher, Mr Baloyi is the one that taught me how to make these benches
Right now i am working with two South African guys to help me do this work
The space we work in
is not conducive for our type of work.
We are hoping to find a better workspace soon
so we can work for ourselves and be able to show people our work.
and sell our products properly. Because this place is hidden
