Gambas Pil Pil Recipe: Mediterranean BBQ Style Prawns in chili-garlic olive oil - Duration: 6:36.

Hello everybody and welcome to another episode of "The 'BBQ Lady".

Doesn't that look beautiful?

Today I'm presenting you one of my favorite dishes: namely "Gambas Pil Pil".

These shrimps have just been fried in garlic-oil - with a little bit of chili in it.

So it is getting hot today.

And now I will show you how I prepared it, enjoy!

What we need to prepare this dish isn't really a lot.

As it is as often in life: It is the little things that count a lot.

And: I could even take a bath in this dish.

It is so delicious!

I could have it as an appetizer, a main course and as a dessert.

You see: It is really one of my favorite foods.

I came across it in Spain, but of course, I also watched my Spanish friend...

... and looked over her shoulder when she prepared the Gambas Pil Pil.

And I thought that I also want to show this recipe to others.

Now let's check what ingredients we have.

Shrimps, garlic and chili and of course olive oil, which is really important.

Now I will add everything into a pan, that's how you prepare the Gambas Pil Pil.

Add some olive oil.

By the way: My friend, whom I learnt this recipe from, doesn't use a pan.

She uses little ceramic bowls.

If you have something like that at home, you for sure wanna use those.

Now I will prepare the garlic cloves: just cutting them in slices.

You could also cut them into rough pieces as well.

Gambas Pil Pil are a perfect appetizer, just being served with a baguette.

That way you will have a nice starter.

Of course, you can also dip the baguette in the garlic-oil.

It really doesn't get better than that, I promise.

And now I add my garlic into the olive oil, already salted a little bit.

Finally the chili.

I got some dried ones.

Of course you may also use fresh chili peppers.But be careful, if it's too hot I always get a really red and burnt mouth.

And everyone sees that I had some Pil Pil again.

You can get really burnt by that.

Well, that's enough chili…

I have probably over-done it again with the chili a little bit.

The pan including the garlic, the chili peppers and olive oil is going to get heated up.

That way the garlic and the chili start roasting and the flavours of the chili and garlic are...

....getting infused to the oil.

I added some more wood, and now you notice that the oil is hot because...

... the garlic is starting to bubble, it's sizzling in the pan.

And we are ready to add the shrimps.

You just wanna lay them into the hot oil and it's really important that they swim in the oil.

If that's not the case you can just add more olive-oil.

A little bit more, good.

Just one more.

Earlier I was saying that my friend prepares it in these ceramic bowls.

Those red-brownish bowls, and she also does it on the regular kitchen stove.

And of course you also can just do it in the kitchen at the stove, you don't need a grill for it like I have here.

Fine, some minutes have passed and I will see if they are ready yet.

It really does not take long, no longer than 5 minutes.

Of course the cooking time depends on the heat.

I would recommend medium heat, but it's supposed to sizzle.

Here it's important that the garlic is supposed to turn slightly brownish.

Which is working here - very nice.

Then we can finally try.

I'm excited because it is about time to give them Gambas a try.

As mentioned earlier, I am having a baguette with it, my cameraman prefers bruschetta.

And now the big moment has come…

A little bit more salt, but it's as always: sheer insanity – in a positive way of course...

Of course I also need to taste the garlic oil.

With a small slice of garlic coming with it.

What a dream!

That's how it's supposed to taste.
