DIY Maxi Dress in 15min 🇭🇹 #SEWUNITED 4 Haiti 🇭🇹 Tie Dye Fabric - Duration: 6:41.
Get ready because today I'll show you how to transform this white tube fabric into a
maxi dress in 15min
Hi loves
and welcome to another travel inspired tutorial.
I call it Culture Couture because this allows me to express my culture in style.
Today's tutorial is inspired by Haiti because this fabric used to be trash on the streets
of Haiti and is now high quality fabric that created thousands jobs along the way.
Thread International is the company that produces these fabrics so please take a look at what
they do
The first time we took the fabric down to Haiti to show them to the
people who were actually responsible for making it
They saw the fabric and they were like 'What is this?'
The stuff that we're collecting is being turned into something beautiful
When people ask me 'What do you do for Thread?'
I get to see it start as trash and I get to see the looks on every person's face
as they see it all the way down the line
I have the luckiest job on the planet
so the story of a Thread product starts on a heap of trash in one of the
poorest neighborhoods in the western hemisphere
And from there it's either picked up or saved then taken to a collection center
where that person gets paid on the spot by a franchisee
Independently owned and operated by Haitians
At point it's moved to a processing center where it's turned into a clean plastic flake
We move it to the United States where it gets extruded into fiber and then woven into fabric
and then once the fabric is completed we sell it to our partners
who then turn it into finished goods
So by working with us you're instantly making your product more responsible
Seeing the first product on the shelf and having people have the opportunity
to buy something that comes from that trash you can see that process from the beginning
to end from ground to good
was really special for us
I let the colors of Haiti inspire me for this tutorial.
When I did my research online I found a lot of painters who are from there but also the
many colorful houses.
Including this one shot by Ron Mayhew
My mission with these videos is to show that even though we look different, speak different
languages and have other traditions at the same time we are 'sew' united and this
week we are 'sew' united with Haiti thanks to this recycled fabric.
And tell me, is there anything you would like to know about this fabric or Haiti?
Comment below and let's help each other out
I will include all the links and info below
Thank you so much for watching & Enjoy this video
For this tutorial I used 1.5 yard or meter of ribbed jersey from Thread international
Lay a maxi dress on the side and cut the bottom
For the paint I used 2 colors of acrylic paint and mixed it with water in a spray bottle
Fold your fabric first then spray it with both colors
Open it up, let it dry then turn it to the other side and repeat
Place a tank top on top, fold it then cut the shoulders downwards and cut the
neckline
Then Pin the top
Now cut the arm openings
sew the top then hem the neckline, arm openings and bottom of the dress
Measure an elastic around your waist and cut it in half
Place it below your tank top and pin it in the middle
Now you can sew it using a zig zag stitch.
Make sure you're only sew the top layer and not both
The pin is still in the middle and stays there.
Pull the elastic as much as possible and then start sewing it while pulling the fabric so
it gathers the front
If you need help sewing straight try drawing a line with a pencil on the fabric so you
can follow it as a guideline
Do this on both sides and you're done
And this is the final look!
Hope you enjoyed this easy and colorful tutorial and that you'll support Thread with their
mission for Haiti.
Like this video if you did and please share it with all your friends
Thank you so much for watching and tune in tomorrow for a travel video
