Portugal's new paradise hotspot on the white sands of the Algarve

LIVING THE LIFE: The luxury club has opened up in the heart of the Algarve. A relaxing, cool venue set to bring a modern touch to the traditional ways of the southern coast of pretty Portugal.

The luxury day club – opened to attract party lovers from across Europe – sits at the end of the bustling white sand beach of Praia da Rocha in Portimao.

The popular port town itself has signs of wear, however, is full of smiling tourists and hosts a colourful coastline of fluorescent parasols across the outlooking bay.

And the smell of fresh sea water is enough to make you want to put your feet up with an ice cream. Well, itd be rude not to.

The area's beautiful beaches and laid back lifestyle has been attracting Brit tourists for decades. However, now with the arrival of a new upmarket beach club – it appears a new vision is in mind for the top holiday destination.

AND RELAX: Girls enjoy themselves in the pool as others chill out.

After enjoying a walk across the long-stretching promenade, we made our way to Blanco Beach. Situated on the fine sand, the club - decorated in all white - instantly stands out in contrast to the stoney colour scheme of the surrounding buildings.

Visually it adds a new modern lick of paint to the town that many locals say it could do with. We were greeted with a warm welcome and instantly taken inside. FUNTIMES: The club is extremely easy on the eye.

The first thing to catch your eye is the huge number of white leather round beds surrounding an idyllic pool in the centre.

To your right is the stage for world famous DJs and artists and to your left is the bar. I mean, what more do you want? Oh yes, the food.

With their restaurant set to open shortly, a menu of pool snacks is offered. Though, these arent the usual crisps and chocolate bars.

A full sushi menu (highly recommended) using fresh fish from the area and a list of gourmet burgers, pizza and fresh fruits is all up for grabs - at reasonable prices too.

Throughout the day DJs play chilled beats as guests sip on cocktails and dip in the pool. A very relaxing setting that despite being very different to other bars and clubs in the town fits the laid back nature of the area.

PARTY ROCKING: DS man Tom poses with RedFoo and BBs Laura Carter.

PARTY TIME: RedFoo rocks Blanco Beach with a hell-raising set.

The all-white decor is matched by the attire of waiters and management alike – offering a smart, clean and comfortable setting. Many of the staff appear to be locals and their friendliness along with impeccable service is worth mentioning.

Beds can be quite pricey, but the club has a good range of offers as well as a full area of comfortable beanbags for guests at no cost at all.

As the evening kicks in, the music starts to liven up and the mood shifts to a more upbeat nightclub vibe. Beds are moved to the side and the stage is lit.

The club - which only opened its doors last month - will have hosted a number of the worlds biggest artists from Tyga to Rick Ross to RedFoo from LMFAO. We got to see RedFoos set.

Despite not being overly excited beforehand, the show was very impressive. The place packed out within minutes. Stunning dancers dressed to the nines in lycra, glow sticks and insane lighting with smoke machines and confetti drops.

Big Brother's Laura Carter – who now runs her own dance business – has played a big party in providing Blanco with some of their dancers.

ROOM WITH A VIEW: What you see from Luna Alvor Bay Hotel.

BLANCO SUNSET: When the sun goes down in Portimao. The club has wide range appeal to all generations and carries itself very impressively on all fronts.

The place is ideal for a relaxing day and party atmosphere in the evening – particularly for those looking to celebrate a hen party or stag do in style.

The owners are keen to make Portimao the "new Ibiza" – minus the hefty prices. And if other clubs follow Blanco Beachs example in the area - itll only be a matter of time.

If Blanco Beach sounds like your kind of scene, but you dont like the hustle and bustle of busy towns, you can stay in the small quaint fishing village of Alvor - around a 10 minute drive away.

Luna Alvor Bay hotel sits just a short walk from the beach and hosts a great view of the sea from your room.

A smart and sophisticated stay, the hotel offers a bread and breakfast option as well as full pool area to enjoy.

Plus if you want some downtown to relax (or recover) in the morning, the hotel is only a short drive from Blanco Beach with taxis easily accessible.

Monarch, the scheduled leisure airline, operates flights to Faro from Birmingham, Leeds Bradford, London Gatwick, London Luton and Manchester airports with fares, including taxes, starting from £47 one way (£98 return)  .

Mallorca: Stylish surroundings and fine food

The rooms are sleek and minimalist, with kingsize beds and designer toiletries. Balconies are bathed in light and there are fluffy white robes and slippers placed in the wardrobe. Guests also receive a complimentary bottle of cava.

You can enjoy the sea breeze while relaxing on a four-poster cabana bed by the elegant pool with an uninterrupted view of the Med.

And when you fancy dipping your toes in the sea, venture down to the hotels private cove where you can also take a free yoga or pilates class in the mornings.

As the sun goes down, head to the rooftop Sky Terrace bar with its 360-degree island views, to sip signature gin cocktail under the stars and take in a live band or DJ set.

Eating at the Barceló Illetas Albatros is a sophisticated affair. You can savour fresh salads and tapas at Lounge Blue in the daytime. BEAUTIFUL: The Santa Maria Cathedral in Palma.

In the evening, Blue morphs into the Black Restaurant where guests are invited to indulge in flavoursome dishes such as Iberian pork stew and local seafood.

Alternatively, try the speciality sprunch which combines a trip to the hotel spa with a lunch featuring a novel starter served in a box. Tasty morsels include ceviche, Manchego cheese and Spanish meats.

While wandering around the medieval streets of Palma, past baroque churches and through buzzing squares, youll notice one place stands head and shoulders above the rest.

Dominating the shoreline and skyline of the Old Town, the Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma - or Le Seu - is an impressive 7,000sqm Roman Catholic basilica featuring a magnificent stained-glass rose window with more than 1,000 crystals.

Meanwhile, in the heart of the town is Palmas main food market, the Mercat de LOlivar. A tourist attraction in its own right, vibrant colours and avours of the Med jostle for attention with tapas bars and cafés nestled between the stalls.

Close to the Barceló Illetas Albatros are a pair of the cutest sandy coves, in very picturesque surroundings, Cala Comtessa, in Illetas, Calvia, is a small beach, surrounded by rocks and pine trees.

It has sunbeds for hire, an al fresco beach café and turquoise waters to cool off in. Just around the corner is Cala Xinxell beach, an even smaller arch of fine white sand with clear water for peaceful swimming.

Theres only a small car park, so get there early you are driving. Alternatively, take the bus or hire a bike from the hotel and enjoy a scenic ride along the coast with the sea breeze in your hair.

PRIVATE: The hotel's cove. For an afternoon in the countryside, head for a tour and tasting at Son Puig, a traditional familyrun vineyard in Puigpunyent.

After taking in the sweeping grounds, chapel and rooms filled with medieval artefacts, you can sip their range of delicious wines, including a summer white and a light red, served chilled. Palmas bustling marina has an array of beautiful restaurants.

Among them is Flanigans, traditional Mediterranean eaterie with views of the yachts bobbing in the harbour.

Sit at one of the cosy candle-lit tables and feast on warm breads with tapenades and tapas-style starters before going on to juicy steaks and seafood, followed by the legendary warm apple pie dessert dusted with icing sugar.

RELAXING: Cabana beds by the elegant pool.

KOA is a cool cocktail bar/grill in trendy La Lonja serving fusion food in elegant surroundings. Dishes include salmon with yuzu miso sauce, Iberian pork fillet, Nebraskan rib-eye steak, baby goat and an interesting pizza selection.

The best beach in Britain revealed – you'll never guess where it is - Duration: 2:23.

The best beach in Britain revealed – you'll never guess where it is

Forget jetting off to the Caribbean, a beach in Britain has been voted one of the best sandy spots in the world.

You might think that the scenic spot is in Cornwall or Devon – but it might surprise you that Blackpool Beach has actually nabbed the prestigious title. SECRET: Do you recognise this British beach?.

BEST OF BRITAIN: Blackpool Beach has been named the best seaside resort in the UK.

Known for its nightlife and donkey rides, the beach isnt usually thought of as one of the most picturesque seaside spots. Yet the sandy stretch has just been awarded with its first ever Blue Flag.

The Blue Flag is a certification by the Foundation for Environmental Education that a beach, marina or sustainable boating tourism operator meets its stringent standards.

It was reported as having excellent sea water quality by the Environmental Agency and there is also a huge amount to do on the famous beach.

Blackpool Tower is the perfect spot to take in the scenery, while thrill-seekers can get there daily does of adrenaline at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

NIGHT LIFE: The buzzing beach resort is famous for its nightlife and thrilling rides. The area is crammed full of rollercoasters and family-friendly rides. Its also the only beach in Britain to have three piers – the North, Central and South.

Blackpool is also known for its vibrant nightlife and no matter what the hour the bar strips are always buzzing. A lot of effort and money has gone into improving the water quality of Blackpool Beach.

Gillian Campbell from the Blackpool council has said: Not only is it fantastic to be granted Blackpools first Blue Flag but to be the only one in the North West is a great honour which means Blackpool has to be the go-to choice for beachgoers this summer..

Ferrari Land PortAventura: Thrills, spills and automobiles at Ferrari theme park - Duration: 5:57.

Ferrari Land PortAventura: Thrills, spills and automobiles at Ferrari theme park

IN THE LOOP: Ferrari Land has rides for all ages. You can see it - and hear the resulting screams of delight - from miles around.

This is Red Force, Europes most hardcore rollercoaster, daring passengers to be thrust, nearvertically, up to a whopping 369ft and down again, reaching a speed of 112mph in just five seconds. I board the carriage, fasten the safety harness and wait.

RED ALERT: Red Force takes you up 369ft before it whooshes you down at 112mph. A thundering whooshhhh signals the start and it shoots off like a torpedo, the acceleration whipping my breath away.

With a 30-second burst of speed, g-force and adrenaline, it is a tantalising taste of what its like to ride a Formula One car - and its now my favourite ride ever.

If thrills, spills and automobiles get your blood pumping, head to the newly-opened Ferrari Land, part of Spains PortAventura theme park in Salou.

But if Red Force, the continents fastest and highest rollercoaster, is too extreme for you, or youve got younger children too small to ride, Ferrari Land has ten attractions which are family friendly.

I had loads of fun with my bunch - my eldest son and his pal, both 16 and called Harvey, plus my youngest Freddie, eight - on the two 55metrehigh Thrill Towers, designed to resemble Ferrari pistons.

One lets you experience a free-fall drop while the other bounces you up and down. We also had a blast competing in scale reproductions of the famous Prancing Horse cars along a 550m racetrack.

But for sheer thrill dont miss the Flying Dreams 5D theatre, which twists and lurches during a round-the-world trip in an imaginary Ferrari GT.

It was so lifelike that at times I had to close my eyes, convinced we were set to crash.

Simulators, based on ones used in training, also give you a glimpse into how it feels to drive a real F1 car, while at the pit stop you can compete with your friends and family to change a race cars tyres the quickest.

THRILLS: Red Force is Europe's most hardcore rollercoaster. Ferrari Land is a fantastic addition to Europes third biggest theme park.

And over at PortAventura Park itself, we couldnt wait to try the seat-gripping Shambhala rollercoaster, which sends daredevils over five camelbacks (humpshaped hills to the uninitiated), through an underground tunnel and skimming over a water pit.

Dragon Khan threw us around a dizzying eight loop-the-loops while Furius Baco catapulted us off the starting grid to 84mph in just three seconds. Then there was the hilarious Angkor, a raft ride where you can fire water pistols at other passengers.

Im pretty sure some of them wreaked revenge when we rode on Tutuki Splash and got a soaking from the spectatormanned water guns. Drenched, we took to the fun Grand Canyon Rapids for a further dousing.

There are heaps of rides for all ages including a Sesame Street-themed area for youngsters.

ON-SITE: The PortAventura World Hotel. Waiting times for the bigger attractions are posted around the park and, if you can push the boat out, Express wristbands give you super-quick access on to the favourites from 29 euros.

Meanwhile, at the parks Vinosfera restaurant we enjoyed tasty tapas including mushroom croquettes, Spanish omelette and crispy chicken strips. The on-resort Raco de Mar served mouthwatering Mediterranean food such as mussels and calamares.

If youre spending more than one day there, check out the Caribe Aquatic Park right next door, which includes another record breaker, the 31-metre high King Khajuna water slide, Europes tallest. Staying in an on-site hotel topped off our break.

We had a spacious family room in Callaghans, set in the Wild West-themed Gold River resort.

After a hearty buffet breakfast, with everything from sausage, bacon and eggs to pancakes and pastries, we were ready to pounce on the park at opening time.

BREAK: Stay in a PortAventura World Hotel and get unlimited access to the park until September.

By early evening the kids wanted a dip in the resorts three gloriously warm swimming pools and, in summer, when the park stays open until midnight, youve got the option of returning to the rides later.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach: Blackpool is so thrilling – and there is so much to do - Duration: 6:16.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach: Blackpool is so thrilling – and there is so much to do

I mean, I get that he likes it.

For a thrillseeker, whats not to love about a ride that hurtles you head first 235ft down an almost vertical drop at 74mph? Its brilliant, fantastic - but why spend three months doing that when Blackpool offers so, so much else to do? I discovered just how much else when our family enjoyed an all too brief but packed mini break there.

GOLDEN: Blackpool has seven miles of beautiful, golden sand.

In under three days I, my wife and our kids Kallum, 12, and Charlotte, eight, went to the top of the famous Tower, explored dungeons, marvelled at waxworks, saw a circus, rode a tram, visited an aquarium, went swimming and dropped in at a zoo.

We also ate out a lot - oh, and we went on nearly 30 funfair rides. And heres the thing - we didnt even scratch the surface.

But even if youre as busy as we were, you still need a good place to stay.

Youre spoilt for choice here (Blackpool famously has more hotel rooms than the whole of Portugal) but the best in town is the Big Blue Hotel, which is simply superb family accommodation.

THRILLS: A rollercoaster on Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Aside from all the comforts youd want - luxurious beds, wonderfully deep bath - the kids have their little alcove where each bunk bed has its own telly and theres even a PlayStation. They do a grand breakfast, too.

Big Blue guests even have their own gate into the Pleasure Beach, which really does have something for everyone.

Kallum and I loved the Big One - not as much as Mr Rodriguez, but probably more than the large gentleman squeezed into the seat behind us who, during one breakneck descent, screamed: My bosoms are slapping my face! There are other thrills, too - Infusion, the only inverted rollercoaster suspended over water; Valhalla, a Viking-inspired log flume in the dark; and Avalanche, which literally comes off the rails to become a bobsled run.

But if you or your kids dont do white-knuckle, theres a gentle but cracking Wallace and Gromit ride which Charlotte loved.

SPOILT FOR CHOICE: Blackpool has more hotel rooms than the whole of Portugal.

From the Pleasure Beach (which has stood for 121 years) you can ride a tram (operating for 130 years) to the Blackpool Tower (open 123 years). But traditional doesnt mean its stuck in the past.

The Tower has a fabulous 4D show, after which lifts take just over a minute to carry you to the top where there is a glass floor on which you can look between your feet to the golden sands 485ft below.

A sign says the glass is super-safe, being able to take the weight of six elephants - although the sign neglects to say how they got the elephants in the lift.

Just at the Tower there is a host of things to do. We loved being spooked by the hilarious Blackpool Tower Dungeons, in which actors take you on a scary but funfilled journey back into the areas murky past.

We also loved the circus, which includes a spectacular finale in which the ring fills with water. And then theres the ballroom - a magical place for Strictly fans who can dance in the arena from the BBC show.

EVERYTHING: Blackpool has arcades, shops, theatres, piers, a casino and seven miles of sand.

All the Tower attractions are available on one ticket - which you can extend into a Blackpool Resort Pass which also gets you into the Pleasure Beach, Madame Tussauds, SEA LIFE, the spectacular Sandcastle Waterpark and Blackpool Zoo.

Then there are the arcades, the shops, the shows, the theatres, the three piers, the casino, and seven miles of beautiful, golden sand.

Want somewhere to eat? Try the glorious glass-fronted Beach House Bistro with its wonderful sea views, or Las Iguanas, a Mexicanthemed restaurant where not only is the food sizzlingly hot but, so the female Taylor-Whiffens tell me, the waiters are too.

If seaside for you means fish and chips, you must eat at Harry Ramsdens, or if your tastes are more Mediterranean, theres an excellent Nandos, too.

Youll never get bored in Blackpool, for there is always something new and different to do. Unless youre Richard Rodriguez. But honestly, he doesnt know what hes missing.

ACTIVITIES: All the Tower attractions are available on one ticket.
