Hi, I'm Daniel from RTINGS.com.

NVIDIA recently released an update to their graphics card drivers to allow their 10 and

20 series graphics cards to support variable refresh rates with FreeSync displays.

In this video, we will briefly describe what these technologies are and what this change

means for you.

We'll go over the tests that we are now conducting on FreeSync displays and will also

go over the results from the 25 FreeSync monitors we've tested so far.

You can also see our article linked below to find more results as we continue to test

FreeSync displays.

First, for those who don't know.

Variable refresh rate refers to the ability to dynamically match the refresh rate of the

display to that of the content.

This is especially useful for gamers, where the game's frame rate may vary during demanding

scenes.

This is important, because with a fixed refresh rate display and no synchronization, it causes

screen tearing to occur when the refresh rate of the content is out of sync with the refresh

rate of the display if you don't use VSync which has its own downsides.

There are two main technologies that are marketed with this synchronization feature.

FreeSync, which was developed by AMD, and G-Sync which was developed by NVIDIA.

In the past, use of variable refresh rates has required matching your display and graphics

card with the same technology as they were not compatible with each other.

This pairing of technologies comes with a price, as NVIDIA G-Sync displays typically

retail for a couple of hundred dollars more than their FreeSync counterparts.

On January 15 2019, NVIDIA released an update to their graphics card drivers to allow FreeSync

support with newer 10 and 20 series video cards.

This allows you to make use of variable refresh rates on cheaper and more widely available

FreeSync monitors.

As a result of reader feedback, we decided to add a test for FreeSync compatibility with

NVIDIA graphics cards and have retested the 25 FreeSync monitors we've reviewed so far.

Note that there is a 'G-Sync compatible' certification provided by NVIDIA, of which

only 12 monitors have passed.

We don't know exactly what they test for, but if you have some insight or know of any

others tests you'd like us to perform then please do let me know.

Most of the FreeSync displays we tested performed the same whether used from our AMD RX580 graphics

card or our GTX 1060.

This includes the same variable refresh rate range.

There were a few notable exceptions though.

The current implementation on NVIDIA graphics cards requires a display port connection,

so some FreeSync monitors which only have HDMI like the Acer XF251Q aren't supported.

This also applies for the current Samsung TVs with FreeSync support over HDMI like the

Q6FN which isn't supported.

The Samsung UJ590 monitor experienced constant tearing when used with our GTX 1060, which

we haven't experienced with our AMD graphics card.

The UE590 also experienced strange artifacts.

All of the monitors we've tested that allow you to adjust the overdrive settings for response

time also expose these settings when using FreeSync from a NVIDIA graphics card.

This can be useful to tweak the motion blur and avoid overshoot or smearing artifacts.

Note that this is different to variable overdrive, where the overdrive adjusts dynamically throughout

the FreeSync range for the best motion.

This isn't currently something we test for, but let us know if you think we should.

Some monitors require you to choose a basic or extended FreeSync range for the best performance,

for example the 27UK650 experienced issues with the extended setting but we didn't

have any problems using 'Basic'.

So overall, it does appear that most FreeSync monitors appear about the same whether you're

using them from an AMD or an NVIDIA graphics card.

There are a few exceptions though, so check out our test results to see how your monitor

compares.

We test all of these monitors with our GTX 1060 graphics card.

To enable FreeSync support, open the NVIDIA control panel and under '3D Settings'

click on 'Manage 3D Settings'.

In the list, set 'Monitor Technology' to G-SYNC'.

After this, go to the 'Display' item and click on 'Set up G-Sync'.

You can then enable the 'G-Sync, G-Sync compatible' option.

To test the performance of these modes, we use the freely available Pendulum test which

is linked below.

We adjust the frame rate of the test and look for screen tearing and use this to test the

full variable refresh rate range.

We also take note of any excessive smearing or if there is any flickering.

I was watching a video the other day

on personal branding on YouTube,

and after watch the video, I said to myself,

is that bad advice or is that really bad advice?

I was so shocked by how bad the advice was.

You see, most of these so called personal branding experts,

most of them are not qualified to teach personal branding,

because most of them have never built

a strong personal brands,

or they're just talking about theories,

and ideas but they actually have not done it themselves.

So they're not qualified to teach that.

And I thought to myself, you know what,

why don't I share some of my personal branding strategy

and tips with you who are fans of my work.

Now when it comes to personal branding,

you have to understand this,

that when it comes to personal branding,

it doesn't mean that you need to have a million followers

on social media, that's what makes your personal brand,

that's not true.

You and I, we all have a personal brand.

You have a personal brand, and I have a personal brand.

Nothing more than your reputation.

I want you to think about your personal brand

equals your personal reputation.

And you and I, we have a reputation right now.

If I was to talk to some of your friends,

and I would ask them, hey, what do you think of you.

What words would come to mind?

In fact, let's do this, comment below.

If I was to talk to five of your closest friends right now,

and I asked them to use three words,

three words to describe you, what words would come to mind?

Would they say something like dependable,

honest, hard working, good work ethics, smart,

intelligent, go getter, what would they say about you?

Or do you have a not so good personal brand,

like not so good reputation?

He likes to drink, she likes to party, right?

Flaky, disorganized, late, disfunctional,

procrastinate, what word would come to mind?

Go, comment below, be honest.

What would they say about you, three words.

And then I want you to ask yourself, also comment below,

what words that they're saying about you

that maybe you don't want them to say about you,

what words, what three words you would like them to say,

to say about you, you would want them to say,

maybe you're not quite there yet,

but you want them to say these things about you.

Comment below, three words.

That's your personal brand.

What do you want to be known for?

The human mind, it's very very simple.

We can actually store so many thoughts in our minds

when it comes to a person,

or when it comes to personal brand.

Whenever someone sees you, a few words always come to mind.

You want those words to be positive, and not negative.

You want those words to help you to further

whatever your goals might be, right.

You want those words, you want to be associated with those

powerful, positive words.

Because people buy people.

People buy from those who they like, know and trust.

And that's what makes a personal brand so powerful.

Because you think about it,

there's so much noise in the marketplace.

There's a lot of noise in the marketplace.

How do you stand out?

If, let's say, you are a hair stylist,

you are a plumber, you are an insurance agent,

you're a mortgage broker, you're a realtor,

whatever services that you provide,

there are a lot of people who provide

very, very similar services.

Now you could say I've got more experience.

I care about my customers, I can do a better job,

I have more expertise, all of that is good.

But it's very, very difficult to differentiate

you from everybody else.

But you are special, you are unique,

and there is only one of you in this whole world.

There's only one of you, there's only one of Dan Lok.

So how do you use that?

How do you build your business around your personal brand?

If people buy people, whenever you put a face to your brand,

that adds a lot of credibility,

because think about the consumers,

now they're not looking at just a CEO of this logo,

right, it's not a faceless company anymore.

There is a face behind the brand.

That you know what, I know what the leader,

what the CEO looks like.

Just like when you buy from me.

You can see, you know what I look like.

You know what my wife looks like.

You know what my mom looks like.

You know what my team looks like.

You know what my house looks like.

You know what my car looks like.

You know what I like, you know what I don't like.

You know what I, what are my philosophies.

You know what I stand for, what I'm against.

You know a lotta things about me if you follow my work.

You see, when people know that about you,

that creates a lotta trust.

It's being transparent, verses oh here is just a product.

Well, who's behind this product, I don't know.

What's this product about, I don't know.

What's the vision for this product, I don't know.

Exactly what does it do, I don't really know either.

Well that becomes very difficult to sell and market,

verses when you are transparent,

when you have a strong personal brand around what you do.

And notice, what you sell might change.

The product might change.

The service might change, the program might change.

Look at your career, put in the comment,

how many of you have changed different careers in your life?

Maybe you were doing one thing

and now you're doing something else.

And after a few years, you're doing something else.

What you do might change.

But if your personal brand is consistent,

and if you know what to do,

that is one of the most powerful, powerful things

that you can do in business,

to make yourself stand out, to cut through the noise.

if oil is not your problem to make more sense of this let's cut to the Tin Man

In The Wizard of Oz in the movie The Wizard of Oz a young Dorothy comes

across the Tin Man as it turns out the Tin Man has been staying stiff in his

place for over a year he went out shopping trees with his axe and it

rained he rusts it out and he believes oil was his problem to address his

current situation oil does seem to be the problem so Dorothy Scarecrow they're

trying to be helpful and they're giving the Tin Man what he thinks he needs to

get moving and go on the direction he needs to go

Dorothy believes she saved the day given the oil provided the solution to

the Tin Man's problem but then the Tin Man mentions what his true problem

really is it's empty the tinsmith forgot to give me a heart you see oil wasn't

the real problem that was this a temporary issue the true heart of the

matter was that the Tin Man was lacking a heart just like in your life when it

comes to being disciplined on your goals it's not a matter of you being

uncomfortable you getting stiffed from not getting appreciated you being

uncomfortable doing things when it's not convenient for you it's a matter of the

heart are you doing your goals out of love if you have a heart it doesn't

matter when you get rusted in the rain it doesn't matter what the weather is

like you will do it no matter what here's an example of a goal that many of

us have that were unsuccessful in because our heart's not in it it's not

out of love with the new year rolling around a lot of us have this goal of

becoming more physically fit I noticed that in January the gyms are

packed people are lifting weights they're running they're trying to get

trimmed they're getting ready for beach season to wear those bikinis and wear

whatever muscular guys wear that motivation and inspiration is high in

the first year and it can carry them for the first couple weeks but then like the

tinman they rust out and get stiff I believe they need oil they believe

they need more time more energy they need to rest and excuses pile up and

they remain stiff and because we don't like being stiff we tend to let go of

our goals and say that we don't care when we truly do and then we wait for

the next year and repeat the process over and over again you see it maybe our

motives a lot of us want to get fit so that we're more likeable maybe we're

more attractive to the opposite sex but that's out of receiving love not sharing

the love that's inside us you see what if your motive became deeper what if

it's not about what you're going to get how you're going to look but what you're

going to be able to contribute to others what if you said my health is so

important I need to be my strongest I need to be my fittest because I have

work to do that only I can do and if I don't do it the world is going to miss

out people need me and I want to be at my best I need to be fit you see with

the motive like that when you're using your heart it's not a matter of you

getting stiff it's not a matter of you needing oil to feel comfortable to feel

relaxed you just do it my friend your heart and the love that's inside it is

the most powerful force you can use it will make you more disciplined it will

help you transcend the tinman troubles but sometimes we need to see examples

and the following clip from the TV show shark tank is a guy who clearly has a

heart does not struggle with stiffness does not need oil he's extremely

passionate about helping people with this product I've noticed when people

are using their heart they tend to have enthusiasm and that enthusiasm is often

misunderstood and rejected and people may make fun of it

that's when your heart is truly tested because every instinct in you doesn't

want that rejection doesn't want to seem abnormal and lets go of that enthusiasm

but if you truly care and you're using your heart you will keep that enthusiasm

now listen to this guy's motive and why he is the way he

is about his product out there email us every day and call us and tell us how to

make a huge impact in their life and so you may think it's a piece of crap but I

don't care this dude's passionate and I dig it you

see it doesn't matter who you are what you have to offer what your dream is

it's a matter of the heart is what you're doing how to love to

enrich the lives of other people if it is you're going to have enthusiasm if it

is you're going to have endurance you're going to be like this guy and you're

gonna be fired up about what you're doing my friend the next time you get

stalled you get stuck you get stiff I want you to think about the tinman

and realize oil is not my problem it's a matter of the heart I need to remind

myself why I'm doing what I'm doing if I don't have a strong reason then maybe I

don't need to be doing it but if my reason is strong I need to find a way to

endure I need to find a way to keep moving my friends start with your heart

make sure your motives are pure and you're enriching the lives of others and

all the other details will slowly take care of themselves if you've enjoyed

But there's another reason to stop in town, and that's Village Bread, a tiny bakery that has brought the small-batch, local-produce, artisan-bread lifestyle to the Inland Empire for the past 2½ years

From a tired shopping plaza, the wife-and-husband team of Amanda and Kevin Alexander bake European classics — chewy bâtards and flaky croissants and a kouign amann that's essentially fried caramel

The couple buy all their whole grains and a bunch of their other flours from Pasadena-based Grist & Toll, and source as many of the rest of their ingredients from across the Inland Empire — honey and egg from Arnott Farms in Mentone, chocolate for their fabulous pain au chocolate from Redland's Parliament, coffee beans from Hearthwood Coffee Roasters in Yucaipa and fruit from a bunch of small farms

Advertisement > Customers at Village Bakery in Calimesa. (Gustavo Arellano) But what draws retirees and hipsters alike are Village Bakery's whole loaves — crusty sourdough, for sure, but also potato breads and pillowy, cinnamon-touched brioches

Even better are the daily specials: sweetish challah on Friday or a three-grain molasses on Tuesday, for instance

Regardless of choice, they're massive and fine for sandwiches or simple toasts alike

Then there's the Volkornbrot — a German-style whole-rye bread so dense that you can probably smash a windshield with it

The Alexanders only bake four of them a week, but they almost never make it to the floor because people request them ahead of time

Keeping things in stock is perhaps Village Bread's only problem. In a county rich with farming traditions, places like this bakery remain maddeningly rare (the newish Cheesecake Factory in Temecula still has an hour-plus wait on weekends), so they count on a loyal customer that doesn't blink on driving an hour

So do like the natives: call ahead and reserve. And load up on their svelte, Swabian-style pretzels — chewy, salty bliss
