Easy party food that's just as delicious as it's pretty.
Perfect for festivities, birthdays or just an ordinary day of the week.
Did you know that beetroots contain nitrate-
-which research has shown lowers your blood pressure?
So it feels great to have beetroots from time to time.
Even if you eat them in a gratin with cream, butter and cheese...
I peel them in the water, because then your fingers don't get too red.
I keep this nub to hold on to while I cut them.
I always use starchy potatoes when I make a gratin-
-and that's because I want it to be extra creamy.
You don't have to peel the potatoes. You can skip this step to save time.
But I like it.
I will cook the gratin and lamb roast in the oven, so I've set it to 175 degrees Celsius.
But before I put the roast in the oven I want to brown it in a very, very hot pan.
When the butter is silent it's time to put the lamb in.
You almost want it on the verge of getting burned, rather than being boiled-
-because we want to achieve a nice browned surface.
As you can see it's very hot.
When you fry you better make it count!
So beautiful...
It's almost hypnotizing.
What's wrong with this knife?
It seems that I have to get my knives sharpened, I can't even cut...
There we go.
To make it even more festive I'll add grated goat cheese.
Goat cheese can be creamy and soft, or more like feta cheese...
Today I've chosen one that's almost like hard cheese, which is perfect for this.
I thought I'd grate this over the gratin to save on dishes.
Instead I have to clean the whole kitchen because I've made such a mess!
If I had a meat thermometer I would use it now-
-because then I'd know that the meat is perfect when it's at 60 degrees Celsius.
Unfortunately I've lost my thermometer, so I'll go with my gut feeling.
Mine's pretty good.
I kept the net on to keep the shape, so now I'll gently cut it off with a knife.
It doesn't taste very well.
I'm a genius... It looks perfect.
In my view, this is perfect.
An even pink color throughout.
I have to say that I was a bit nervous since I didn't have a meat thermometer-
-but once again I can confirm that my gut feeling is damn good when it comes to these things!
This dish is perfect for a party since there's plenty to go around-
-and since it's so incredibly beautiful.
I don't know if you can see just how the beetroots have blended into the potatoes-
-like an artwork.
