What's up guys how's it going? So if you missed the announcement a few weeks ago
I let the world know that I am now playing Vater drumsticks. These bad boys
right here. So I just wanted to put together this little video to do sort of
like a review and an unboxing of what Vater sent me in their care package and
I just want to talk a little bit about their sticks and just how they have
improved my playing in the short amount of time that I've been using them. So
the sticks that I chose were the sugar maple concert series. What's strange about it
is that I'm a hard-hitter. You guys all know that. You've seen my videos. So
usually for someone that hits as hard as I do,
hickory sticks would be more beneficial because they'll break less but what I
found with these sugar maple sticks is a few things. One: even though they're maple
they're super solid. I've only broken I think one in a couple of weeks which is
crazy. That's never happened to me before. I usually break sticks, multiple sticks,
every week. So I thought that was really awesome and another thing about these
sticks, because it's maple they are lighter than hickory sticks but the way
that this stick is designed, it has a longer length which makes it seem
like it's a little bit heavier which I prefer. So these things are 16 and a
half inches long. Most sticks that I came across were are about 16, maybe 16 and a
quarter. I like having the 16 and a half length. It's just comfortable to me. I
don't want to feel like I'm holding, you know, a pen when I'm playing. I want it to
be longer. Another thing is the thickness of this stick. So these sticks are
1.60 centimeters in thickness, which is a bit thicker than a lot of
people are used to. And this is also another reason why I chose the maple
over hickory. Because I like really thick drumsticks, if I went with hickory and I
went with the diameter of stick that I'm comfortable with, they would have been
way too heavy. Vater sent me a bunch of sticks to try
out before I ended up choosing the concert series and I tested out a bunch
of hickory ones and the ones that were an appropriate thickness for me were
way too heavy. So in order for me to get the thickness I want and the weight,
I ended up just choosing the maple sticks. The thickness and the length of
this one definitely counteracts it not being a hickory stick and they are super
super durable. Now one thing I noticed that I didn't really know had anything
to do with the drumsticks, my fills are coming out way cleaner. I didn't
realize how much of an effect drum sticks that you're using can have on your
playing, but then once I used the Vater sticks, when I'm going around the kit
with just a super fast fill I'm actually able to do it cleanly which I wasn't
always able to do with my older sticks. Which it took me a while to understand
what was happening but honestly I think choosing the right stick for you really
can make a difference and now I believe that. I didn't think that was anything
really but now I actually know that sticks do make a really really big
difference in your playing. These sticks even change the sound of my drums.
I play SJC drums. Everyone knows that and they usually sound really punchy anyway
but once I switched to these, they sound really really powerful which I love and
another reason why I think that my drums are sounding different is because of the
tip of the stick. The sugar maple concert series uses a
ball tip. These are all wood tips and what the ball tip does is that it really
produces a clean and a bright sound um when you're hitting the drum. I also want
to thank Vater for sending me this really nice care package. I'll show you
guys what's in it right now. Obviously I got a ton of sticks. There's more. These
are gonna last me a very long time especially with how solid they are and
that I'm not breaking them as fast. So thank you so much Vater. They also sent
some brushes. I have never really experimented with brushes but this one
especially is just really cool-looking so I'm definitely gonna try this one out.
I got a nice Vater drum stick bag. This thing is huge.
I love all the extra pockets it has. Front and back and on the inside, so I'm
gonna put this to really good use. I also got some stick holders to attach to my
drums. They have the Vater logo on it of course. They also sent a water bottle
holder. Surprisingly I'm not gonna use this for a water bottle. I'm gonna use
this for my phone because when I play and jam along, I always just put my phone
on the floor. Now I have a spot to put it so I'm really pumped about that.
One thing that I got that I wasn't expecting Vater to have were cymbal
fasteners. I got the slick nut one. They sent me a bunch and it's a quick-release
cymbal fastener. And last but not least I got a monster of a practice pad. This
thing is bigger than my face. I'm really pumped about this. Of course I love
sporting Vater gear now and this thing is just huge and it's really heavy. I'm
really excited about using this and practicing some rudiments. I still have a
bunch of the trial sticks that Vater sent me and in those were the heavier
ones and I'll still use those heavier ones and the other models for different
things that I'm doing. So when I'm practicing rudiments or anything, I'm
gonna use the heavier hickory ones. So nothing they sent me is going to go to
waste. I'm really excited about just testing out everything really. So again I
just want to give a big shout-out to Vater. I'm so happy to be part of your
family. You guys rock. I really do feel the love with your
posts promoting that I had joined the family too. I really really
appreciate that. You guys are just the real deal and I'm really looking forward
to getting to know the company more and just using the sticks and just spreading
the word about Vater. So you guys that are watching, if you want any drumsticks
or you're just looking to test out some new stuff, I really recommend Vater and
I'm not just saying that just to say it. I truly mean it because their sticks are
really making a big difference in my playing. Something that I didn't think
was really a big deal drumstick wise, but now that I'm using the right stick I
really do believe that it can make a difference in your playing. So I
recommend Vater. I hope you guys have an awesome day and I'll see you later.
