if you're anything like me the workshop or crafting space just gets messier and
messier over time so I've set myself a challenge to see a writing declutter my
workshop in quick 20 minutes snippets I'm Julie from Julie Davies flower
workshops and #FlowerStart the online flower arranging classes now on to my
big cupboard so I'll open the doors and we'll see what we got inside so here we
are with a cupboard doors open and my goal here is I really want to empty the
bottom shelf which you can't see actually and so I've got somewhere that
I can stash my workshop bags when I come back from class what happens now as I
pack the bags up and it's all really neat and tidy I come back from class and
I just sort of haven't got any room for them and I just leave them in the middle
in the workshop floor it's not working very well so I thought if I had a space
that was empty it could be used for my my bags that I need for class and so
obviously I need to empty some space first now what you can't see next to me
so I've got three boxes I've got one for things I want to keep and I'll put back
on my shelves and be more organized I've got another box for giveaways so if I
don't want it perhaps one of my friends would would like it or I should take it
down to the charity shop and the other is for throwing away so I'm either going
to physically recycle it put it in the bin or if it's any dried flower
arrangements I go to put those on the compost heap so let's get started I have
just discovered I have another bag of cellophane and brown paper wrapping
she's come from the supermarket flowers as you may know I run a flower Club for
local schoolchildren and I get donated flowers in the local supermarket so I
have an incredible number of flowers delivered to me each week and I save the
wrappings think I'm going to use it and I don't use them nearly as fast as I can
so I will go through that later on and take out the piece of brown paper and
recycle those and then put everything else in it
box so an empty box not quite sure why I'd say fat and then I got things I do
once keep this is something I made it it's a ring made out of hay or straw
when I shop bound over with rope in fact I've since making it I've never used
that base before but what I could do is unravel it so I'm not quite sure about
that so probably keep it molding powder I use this for my making my topiary tree
so it's a plaster Paris mix way so I mix it up and use that in the base of my
little pots and then put my tree trunk in and then have the circle of flowers
at the top so keep that a dustpan I don't quite know where the brush has
ended up so I'm going to put that in the recycling pile pending finding the the
brush and then a toolbox this is my very first two books I had when I started
flower arranging and you told what this is just a little big enough and possibly
the time has come when I need to get rid of this because it's just too small for
me to use so again I shall put that on the giveaway pile and then I've got
Strong's one year I did Christmas stories and the pine was pre bound onto
one of these rings so I thought it might be helpful I took all the pine off to
reuse that and the same with that that was another ring I sort of denuded if
the greenery so I'll keep that little pretty ring or not Tim I'm not sure
about that that's given it my friends I don't think I've ever used it possibly
that's going to go in the giveaway car and two lengths of rope so always handy
used when I make my Christmas Garland's to bind the greenery onto a piece of
rope I shall keep that then I think I should now be able to get out some bits
and pieces it's a big box here I'm trying to empty a bag here of
and fake flowers which I will keep because I'd be useful for flower club
and I think I've probably got lots of other flowers I can put into there
including this little arrangement which one of the girls that Clark I've made
and she didn't want to take home so I'll put the flowers back in there but I
think I'm going to get rid of all this and then just have the poppet that I can
reuse so that was rubbish rubish pot can be kept dried flowers oops
I've got more pots in here and use terracotta pots this one's had cuz I
can't remember doing that leaves glued to it obviously some sort of autumn
workshop for children so keep those
watering can brush for cleaning out my pockets with bleach so they need to be
kept this is past its best but a sample to remind myself that I can recycle this
idea I think ice made originally it was a Christmas table arrangements when
keeping that a sort of demo model IP caked class and then I have a whole reel
of chicken wire so arranging flowers with in water rather than using flour
phones that's really pops at the moment because the fly phone can't be recycled
so that needs to be kept
Medellin o6i patli these are quite hard to get off now and nowadays I think
there's something to do with the way they're imported so I have got those so
perhaps I like gold dust so I need to keep those flat somewhere and then these
little baskets which I bought from a car boot fair and they were really handy for
flower club at school but the only problem now is I've been left with for
at the moment we've got 16 children flower club and it's a matter of whether
I can find something that would be equal in terms of being fair to everybody so
possibly I might put those in the giveaway pile because I don't think I've
got anything that is the same sort of size and people are going to flip me a
bit unfair so that is giving away and then my fault actually it's one of those
five six so perhaps I have to wait until not many people are coming to flower
club and bring out these six little baskets and then inside here I've got I
see them going cheap it's just a nice alternative to arrange flowers in a
container that's a little bit differences from drinking glasses
they're with ice creams and ponies on them two four six eight nine and some
clear ones there so they I'm sure I can get some you saturday okay recycling so
these are little chocolate lips of pudding bowls from chocolate puddings
and all these are peaches so go in the packed lunch boxes so I think saving
those I think originally we use them for painting christmas pudding Bowl so this
is always a good standby I've run out of proper little containers there's
probably enough of those to keep them so I'll have those just stand by
I'd better waste is I'm going to throw this away there's some little pots here
that are really sweet and again unless I've got bought quantities of them I
can't really use that flower club because they like everything to be
really fair so I'm going to put those since to give away my hot complete and
then the rest of the containers in here it's basically the the same pot and I do
have some smaller ones which are really sweet I pay Tempe for those but again
unless I've got at least twelve of them they're not any good form it for our
club so I'll go through and sort out the rest of that box and then stuck
everything up neatly and blender so that's all for the keep pile which okay
that's a big box off and then remember this I showed you one year I decided
that I would make up the basis so that I could whip up some flower arrangements
for Christmas without going through the dudes doing some prep basically and I've
never used those which seems such a shame
perhaps I'm doing a flower demonstration for my flower club coming up in the
summer so I will make a point of using these because it seems a shame I think
I've caught three of those I could actually probably use them and now I
found them again I shall put them somewhere more visible so I can keep
track of them this I bought when I went when I was still at college in Holland
pay two euros ninety five for it we went to a lovely garden centre where they did
lots of flower arranging I think basically it's an armature so you would
stand this on your VARs and then arrange your flowers through it and I've never
used it and I do like it a thing of beauty but um
I've kept on for it so long it's starting to the the calamitous is
starting to break down so I think that's for the giveaway pile few sheets of
metal I'm not going to use those I think reaching I went to a workshop and we
form them into two cubes or upstanding cubes to make a very modern arrangement
and I've never thought I'd do it again at home I never did
so that can be recycled and then these are my big fellow IKEA back this is what
right pack up and take to class with me first fund an eight prints that can be
washed and when we go to class we sell her little photo booth and that's my
clock the photo booth and again I know that can do it that washer that I can go
in the washing pile so the idea is that these bags will be stored empty or full
or semi full ready I can just think I which Tuesday its class so and so I can
go off Wednesday that's the bag ready for that and just this person over to
the side and I'll come back to those
and then fast cuz I do love a basket but they're not massively practical are they
for shopping with so I'm not entirely sure when I'm going to get this and
again these demonstration pieces I've made a candle holders like spiders webs
so gain a sort of practicing my technique and taking them as samples to
workshops so I don't say I know how much effort I put into making these I don't
think I'm quite ready to get rid of them but it is a huge problem with alas ones
it's loads of them and where do you keep things like this so they're all sort of
wire work candle holders so not sure about that but will earn the side of
caution and keeps them at the moment and there's some pots that's and Christmas
amaryllis in them and they just look like quite useful pots but really
Christmastime I putting her eyes away of my Christmas
storage upstairs and then the rest of the bag is empty so I was using this as
a storage pot this bag and I got a server that's actually useful or whether
I should give that away as well I'm going to try and be brave the whole
point is I'm trying to declutter so I'm going to be brave and put that in the
giveaway pile this is a very dirty cylindrical wire it's plastic so I'm
actually going to put that with my plastic where my glassware because when
I want to contain that that's what I'm going to look for it so put that on the
side to put away later oh gosh is another carry bag here so Oh
does sheet so I think I will relegate that to the where our household paints
are kept and I've got a bag here as well I should really put that quite a handy
bag hessian bag i should put that with my shopping bag so I can be put away
properly and this is a weak soil did work well we did some cooked armors
we're making the moss balls and planting bulbs in them and I bought some
complement that's a really at least back into the garden stress God carry bag
recycling and then the thing I was struggling with oh it's full of my
husband's assorted screws so I'm going to have to
find somewhere for that I'm sure he doesn't even know if it's in the bottom
of my cupboard so I'm hoping I can squirrel us away somewhere where he'll
find it and not notice I've moved it so hopefully that'll go into the shed
concrete mix plasterboard tape shed domain and I don't need that and
something for oh that's good PVA but glue so that can go in the shed as well
and the one thing I will keep is blackboard paints because you may just
might have seen all my covers got a blackboard on it so I do need to keep
that so that's wait so now I have freed up I'm quite sure what that piece of
wire was for space at the bottom I don't want to put anything at the bottom here
in fact I like the moment just put my I feel bags back just to try and get some
semblance of organization so haven't emptied that out I need to go through
shelf by shelf to try and make space and condense things down a bit
so onto the next shelf the problem I have here the shelves are a fixed height
and a contour is get to everything but here we go with the spray so I use that
in my classroom making hanging commander so I need to find somewhere for that I
went to a workshop years ago and we made wrist corsages and I kept mine so I've
made a wrist corsage and it looked quite pretty when I first made it and it dried
out and now it just looks dead now so I will
take the ribbon off and I reckon if I believe that a quick iron that would be
not quite nice for wrapping up presents so I shall put that to my side again I
have all something metal clanging in there that's it but I kept the rosebuds
in a kiln ajar and I'm going to get rid of those so the rosebuds can go in my
throwaway Park on to the compost heap and I'm giving away my kill in a jar so
I'm going to send those down to the charity shop I've got a sandwich box
here which I've got some of my wires in and I need to find somewhere for my wife
to go so like a bit heap but I need to be very organized about it what when I
was going through my erases new products in a previous video I've got another one
of those pots so it would make more sense if I store them together so that's
a keeper and then a lovely basket I had a huge one that exactly the same as this
it's really difficult to store baskets I thought I could use it for storage but I
think the time has come to give that away and then a very flower club flower
arranging stand it's but a frock in there so you have your flower from the
top and you could arrange at the bottom I've never used it and actually I want
to think I would do I've got this flowering demonstration coming up I'm
going to use that as one of the props and I'm giving away the whole
demonstration piece and the stand so that'll go away storage bag so you just
can't ever work out what the best form of storage is these are makeup bags I
think came from Marks and Spencers and it's quite they're quite handy because
you can see through them what you've got this is just filled up with all sorts of
collector one interesting thing it's got is a melon scooper it's really good if
you're doing quite modern designs where the flower phone fills the hole of your
box or the container and you can scoop out a little well and aim your water
down there so I will need to go through that another time pull that out and
another box here the basket so it's slightly more
practical because it's square better storage and I've got reels of paper bind
wire then kind of all that's made of it's quite an attractive one a blue
string I'm never going to use a blue string so I will give the blue away
Green sort of Washington wrote again I've used that for Christmas Garland's
but I don't there's enough there's enough pass that on and I think that's
crochet yarn her cotton crochet yarn it's quite nice for you doing some
wrapping details and a ball of away from raffia crinkled and horrible that can go
in the recycling and then other lengths of rope for Christmas Garland's and a
bit more of a bind wire so I think I will keep all of that but it may be it
needs to be packed down into a different container but I will keep that here I've
got again I bought this in Holland years and years ago a really glittery flat
wire for making there's a decorative work with next is an wrist corsage and I
never use I must have had this enough for ten years I'm going to be effects
away I mean yeah this is like a see-through almost like a sandwich bag
ties and it would be really lovely if you were into fancy gift wrapping that
I'm going to get faster away I've had it too long and I haven't used it and the
top here I've got no storage
cans these are tunafish cans catering sized ones and I've got play-doh in here
which are quite often used as an ice break when I've got new glasses and I
think it's a better way of storing that I think I'll have an ice breaker kit and
that's all I will keep them by thinking of it store it differently and then I
went to a class again and I bought these pet pebbles and they look like they've
been covered with moss is fake moss and I've kept
and I really don't know look really lovely what I used it for but I'm not
entirely sure I'm going to use those giveaway pile and then here I put some
rocks I can't even remember where they came from in the quite pretty crystals I
might put those on my bathroom shelf actually and then an example of this
wire work we're doing in previous heart shapes pretty and little twisted things
there these are getting quite good as teaching
aids I don't have to make everything from scratch again
so I think I'll walk it and then also you can any glue things on you can't so
please don't look at what sort of sample pieces so I think I will keep those I
put also champagne corks I'm going to keep those in a different place so I
shall keep all together but I think it does need sorting out I put it back put
a box here crepe which I wasn't using up on its side try and create another layer
of storage so I hope make that post-it notes I'm going to give this away the
childish childlike characters which I think I need oh that's some force line
making so that needs to stay well is the eggs I still have find a home for I
cleared those out on my first day of culturing and I still find a place for
them and then I've made this as I low-wage throwing a huge flowers
I really hate giving rid of stuff that you've put so much time and effort in
but it really is just old and horrible and then some flower crown type things
and I made these for a photo shoot the dog throwing flowers
no collars or round at the top at a silk flowers thick reviews that she won the
dolphin or this hair burns as well so that was quite a fun thing to do but
I think I shall keep those because they're quite nice samples you can
imagine they'd be made with fresh flowers they look pretty good and in
here as well is a photograph of me is to put up an I did my workshops I'm going
to get rid of that frame so throw it away but I keep the basket of goodies
that and because I have to set myself a limit of 20 minutes to go through the
shelf and then a rattle through this shelf and then put back what I've got
and then I'll come back another time and do the next shelf so if I'm thinking 20
minutes a shelf I've got about another hours work here and you don't want to
watch me do that but isn't metal contain there again I bought less and Holland
years ago I love the container but I've never used it and then what you do
bits of candle that is a half gone and we're not a huge candle users at home so
I like that though recycling still in the gift wrappings I know what's in here
I was inspired against the same Dutch workshop these massive test tubes two
euros 95 they've probably been wrapped up for 10 years to think of something I
can use this for the reasonably gentle break those hope that the day of say
food bags I think I have to go back in the kitchen probably using those to line
those terracotta pots because they're not waterproof so that's back on the
kitchen pheasant feathers lucky holder face pops of mini test tubes these are
quite handy if you're making well for keeping your flowers in water where they
haven't got a long enough stem to be in the flower foam of ours it's quite nice
as where if you ever do an Easter tree with branches you can attach these to
the branches and put little flowers tree as well so that's all a bit
delicate there put the lid on rats I want to break any of those and also in
here chink chink as some more test tubes they're much more manageable size so I
need to decide originally I think I bought those and they had a plastic
fixing and they interlock together you could sneak them around the table I'm
not sure keep those actually I think the little test tubes and more practical I'm
going to get rid of those and then this a glass donut
floated on our vows of water and then you put your your flower through it so
you could float on your anthing I was quite good fun I think there's another
one there so what - and then more champagne corks and I'm going to get rid
of that boss and have another basket that's just a bit impractical and then
in this broken folder rosette so a flower club we're trying to divvy up
jobs who's handing out scissors who's doing the greenery who's handing out the
flower foam so I might keep those and recycle that idea another pack of little
post-it notes there so I think that get face away so I'll keep those two the
flower club my stack of things is growing here and in the large box here I
bought a piece of fake turf to use the Christmas as a as an Easter table scape
it was quite good fun so I'm going to keep that letters I've been spelling out
sign map and I thought so hard isn't it I think that's probably a giveaway we
don't use them at home anymore I was using them for no messages make sayings
and photographs so I think that's probably time to give that away
plastic test tubes so sometimes these come with your if you buy all kids or
and theorems and I've came on my Valentine roses and then what you can do
with them same principle as the test tubes you can but you can decorate these
us don't over with corsage tape so don't have to be fussed okie eat those are
quite good design out there a bust so it is to display the necklaces I've been
making fast that it's an old sample festival Doris what I'm going to do it's
all crinkled and crumpled but the black bear is in it with fake so I might go
through and pull out the black brace and I can reuse those that's that the job to
trust norm with little demonstration war hanging that we made it flower club so
it's that same technique with the twigs and binding them together I showed you
for the Christmas table arrangement and then with fake flowers glued on it's
quite attractive s-hooks I don't need those I thought I'd be
hanging up Dorian's everywhere and there go it's a sample piece there from flower
club at school we've painted tin cans and I'm not quite sure we did those got
to moss on the top I think that's had its day probably recycle water I can and
another hair garland here which is a mix of dried and Freight materials so again
I'm going to get rid of that and reuse salvage the fakeness here was a black
bitter in there again a pot here colored pens and that's an old pot so I think my
husband made all and this shows not quite sure I think it's got some
significance so I'm not getting rid of that and then oh I had some business
cards made for something so paid out for the
for an artist projects and it never happened so it's just time to get rid of
those they can go straight into recycling and then these pens here and I
should put them in the pen Potter only one so I'll use those so I'm gonna leave
it there and when I come back I'll show you what the Shelf looks like with all
my material was put in properly and then I'll move up the next sort of shelves
and show you what I've got in others boxes so hope you've enjoyed that do
