What if Your Favorite Video Game is Bad? - Duration: 5:28.I'm Caleb and I'm here to help you love video games even more.
Today, we're going to learn that it's okay to take the piss out of your favorite games.
And we're going to do that by talking about Metal Gear Solid, #9 in the Boss Fight Books series,
written by Ashly Burch and Anthony Burch.
I do plan to review all of the Boss Fight Books, so if you like what you see, please be sure to subscribe. There's quite a stack of them back there as you can see.
I like books.
I like video games.
I like mashing them together like potatoes....potatoes against the bottom of a bowl, of course.
I mean, you can't just mash two potatoes together to get mashed potatoes.
That's cumbersome, messy, and questionably effective.
The bowl is necessary.
Otherwise, you're probably just puppeteering a weird, violent potato orgy.
I probably didn't need to say weird there. That's redundant.
The latest potato-on-bowl experience I've had is this, Metal Gear Solid from Boss Fight
Books, written by Ashly Burch and Anthony Burch.
It's funny.
It's insightful.
It's just what you would expect from a book featuring these two personalities.
I stress "you" because surely you are familiar with these two people, but somehow
I was not familiar with Burch and Burch despite them having a very popular YouTube series,
Hey Ash Whatcha Playin'?, and having other impressive writing credits to their names,
including Borderlands 2 and an Emmy award winning episode of Adventure Time.
Ashly Burch is also the voice of Aloy in Horizon Zero Dawn.
They are the perfect pair to write a book like this, a book that takes a game they loved
as children, that they say contributed substantially to the people they are today, and tear it
apart.
What I learned reading this book is that Metal Gear Solid doesn't really hold up as a game
experience.
The authors use their own personal histories and current career roles in video games to
add to the larger conversation of Metal Gear Solid, and to the even larger conversation
of representation in video games and to the even more larger conversation of just how
weird is Hideo Kojima, really?
All signs point to very.
A running joke in the book is pointing out ways Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima
is crazy and seemingly has no filter when it comes to what he wants his game to do.
For example, the authors explore the game mechanic that lets enemy soldiers track protagonist
Solid Snake in the snow, a mechanic that seems innocuous until you realize that it's only
used once and at the very beginning of the game before the player really even understands
how to play the game.
That's hours and hours of development time to for a single use, albeit cool, feature.
Not weird enough for you?
Kojima also includes assworship as a gameplay mechanic.
See also hiding in boxes.
For those with a nostalgic connection to the game, the book forces a hard-look retrospection.
What you may remember as a brilliantly sophisticated game that invented the stealth mechanics we
know and sometimes love today, may still be that, but decimated are the adjective tagalongs
implied by such a description.
Perfect game?
No. No. Not at all.
Serious game?
Not really.
Beautiful game?
Perhaps in the way we all thought polygons were beautiful before we had full CG capabilities.
Important game?
Yes, still very much so.
What makes this book really work--if I didn't say it enough already--are the personalities
of the authors.
Siblings Ashly Burch and Anthony Burch take the straight-man and banana man format they've
developed over the years in their Hey, Ash Whatcha Playin'?
YouTube series and convert that quite well to the long-form paper medium.
And they understand the demands of the book format and realize that simply carrying on
the Double Act comic format of their video series would get quite boring for 200 pages.
So, they wisely show off their critical thinking skills while reserving most of the funny stuff
asides for the footnotes.
And if you like footnote humor, I highly recommend Robert Hamburger's Real Ultimate Power:
The Official Ninja Book. It's surprisingly very, very good. Not just funny. It's actually a good book.
Though Burch and Burch pull no punches when criticising Metal Gear Solid, they truly love
the game and credit it for parts of their professional success.
It's good to know that it's okay to recognize when what you love might be flawed and that
even if what you love is a sexist, racist, and overall absurd video game, it doesn't
mean you are sexist, racist, absurd, or a video game.
And as long as we gamers can keep that in mind when challenging a person's affinity
for a video game that we may not like, we'd all be better people.
Basically, don't be a jerk to fellow gamers, okay.
Because the games you love are probably garbage, too.

5 Weaknesses of the HomePod - Duration: 3:32.
Welcome to DeballTech, the channel where we unbox interesting gadgets and technology
so today we have a slightly different topic
we are going to talk about the 5 things i hate about the HomePod
the first thing i hate is that when we try to talk with the HomePod
and that we say " Hey Siri ", all the other phones..
will answer at the same time
so basically if i have people home and that i try to
change a song or do whatever with the HomePod
all the other phones will do the same exact thing
and that is
very annoying because i don't want to go on my phone
to deactivate Siri every time i want
to use the Homepod, because i really use Siri a lot on my phone
and i want to be able to use Siri on the HomePod
without having to deactivate every time
the number 2 of the things i hate about the HomePod is that
it doesn't work with Spotify
now we can use Spotify with AirPlay
But you can't tell the HomePod to use Spotify
Because it only works with Apple Music
so the Problem is that i have to pay subscriptions with Apple Music
and i also have to pay for Spotify
and it gets expensive because
i am very used to Spotify and i love it, i have it ever since it came out
and all my favorite songs are on it
and now i have to do everything from scratch
with Apple Music that is honestly not as good
number 3 of the things i hate about the HomePod is that
honestly it is not as smart as we would imagine
the other competitors
have smart speakers that are
much smarter in my opinion
a lot of people say that the HomePod is mainly just a speaker
more than a smart speaker
but for the price we pay
we would like it to be smarter than that
there are a lot of question that the HomePod wont answer
while the other brands will
and that is a minus for the HomePod
the number 4 of the things that i hate about the HomePod is
now this one is a bit funny because it happened to me a lot
so imagine you are home
listening to music at its loudest
the sound of this thing is very loud, and at night when you go sleep
you're in bed sitting on your phone
almost asleep and you want to use the homepod
to wake you up in the morning and you say. Hey Siri
wake me up at 8 am
the HomePod answers: OKAY I SET THE ALARM FOR 8 AM !!!
and her the entire house hears it
and its seriously annoying because you are trying to sleep
the people in the house are trying to sleep
maybe your neighbors if you are in an apartment
and everyone will hear the homepod telling you
that you will wake up at 8 am, because the sound of this thing
is extremely loud , and that's also something very annoying
Number 5 and thats the worse of all
you're home chilling with friends, and there might be kids as well
you listen to music
and now everyone tries to control the HomePod
Hey siri put this, hey siri put that
you can't listen to music normaly, you can't stay on one song
without having someone else trying to control it and everyone wants to try it
everyone want to try to change songs, and if you have kids !
it's even worse ! they ask questions
they talk to it and change songs
and then its a total chaos in the house
and then you unplug the thing, you dont want to hear it anymore
so these were the 5 things i hate about the homepod
now i'm not saying its bad, i love it
the sound is excellent
but for the price we pay, we would like to have those things a little better
if you haven't seen my unboxing of the HomePod
click right here to watch it
otherwise thank you for watching me
if you like this video hit the like button and subscribe
and i'll see you next time , i love you all

who's the real burden tho? - Duration: 7:24.What's your battery like?
Cool. oH hey, it's me... cool!
Welcome -tongue pop- I haven't done that in a hot minute.
Oh yes I did draw an intro... oh wow oh wow she's talking about things cool and stuff
and whatever comes to mind enjoy the mess pshhhh!
So shower thoughts... lol ok but, at this point this was like a month or two ago, maybe
in December?
Umm you know just some casual shower thoughts, getting into some deep conversation and thought
with myself while I'm just like washing my hair and shaving my legs like fun things.
And it was one of those rare times when by the time I got out of the shower and washed
my face and all that stuff and made it out of the bathroom, I was still in thought so
what happens at that moment is I will go ahead and write it down to myself and just you know
go through whatever I'm going through in my head or whatever.
You know maybe it's an idea, maybe it's thinking about things that have happened, it's hypotheticals
- thoughts, you know how thoughts work I don't really need to explain thoughts per se.
So I was like in the shower and I was thinking about trans stuff because like you know I'm
a trans person, so like obviously that's all I can think about and like make videos about
and uhhh- lolol jk but also that's lowkey the tea, but I was thinking about pronouns.
And at this moment I was specifically thinking about pronouns in public and how that relates
to safety, the main reason I was thinking about all of this was because my grandmother
had just went into the hospital and I was coming over to my moms place, where I'm still
at currently, umm to help her out and that involved meeting new people because they just
moved here and being in public more often because where I live is very rural and i like
don't leave the house and there's like no one around, so I don't really have to deal
with the public a lot which is great for like my anxiety but also it kinda feeds it... it's
a cycle.
So I was thinking about having the discussion of this mostly unspoken thing about pronouns
in public for me and kind of my evolving relationship with pronouns to a degree.
So I'm in the shower and I'm in my head and I'm going through the conversation of like
I know everybody is chill but we're just going to make it clear that in public we will exclusively
be using she/her slash they/them whatever anyone feels more comfortable with whatever
like those two options are great, we're dropping like axe to the he/him.
And like specifically using those you know definitely with exclusivity in public and
when meeting new people because that's a safety issue you know.
And I'll probably make a separate video on pronouns to keep this one from being too long
and like I said my evolving relationship with pronouns, because I do feel it changing.
And it's all good, like my family is all supportive, at least like the family I'm around that I
know of is chill.
And it's cool and all but it's still this really awkward conversation to have, you know.
And to have to bring up and in a way feel like even though everyone has voiced that
they'd be okay with things like this, that me having to voice and make a stance feels
like I am demanding something and like somehow making a spectacle and being a burden somehow.
Even though I know all of that is wrong, that's still the kind of weird waves and uneasiness
that I feel about these types of conversations that are awkward and informing people of change,
and to go even further than that to inform people of changes that involve them that are
my choice, that I've chosen.
So naturally this brought me to what happened last year, last summer I believe where flarmhp
tried to ban trans people from the US military and said that trans people are a burden, which
rightfully led to swarms of people taking to the internet and you know screaming in
posts "TRANS PEOPLE ARE NOT A BURDEN" and like that was a really cool thing to see,
and I'm sure it was good for a lot of other trans people to see support like that, and
while i'm hesitant to feel like all the people who are screaming about the trans ban have
my back and the backs of all trans people, like... because I know a lot don't actually
care and are only pretending to care because it's a buzzword and it's trendy to care about
trans people, to say you care about things like trans people and racism and sexism and
xenophobia and on and on and on, but then continue to perpetuate and hold up these systems
and just in actuality not care at all.
It's a sign of progress whether real or not to see so many people upset at the idea of
banning trans people from something like the military, and then going further and labeling
trans people in the military as a burden to the us government, when even in the context
of the budget only a tiny percentage is actually spent on trans medical care.
And without even getting into the topic, me obviously disagreeing with the trans ban in
the us military does not mean that I want trans people to enlist per se, or that I support
the military industrial complex or war, but I do know that a lot of trans people and people
in general that have no other options join the military, and such a clear act of obvious
discrimination should never be allowed period.
So back to the concept of me, lil old me being the biggest burden in the world... sure, sometimes
I feel like a burden.
That me "passing" or not can be a dangerous situation for me and anyone that I'm around.
Knowing that, knowing that my family knows that.
Knowing that I'm an extra thing that everyone has to think of, that there are things and
situations that I just can't do because of who I am.
That all of my stuff in some way also has to become all of their stuff.
But i know, that even when sometimes I feel like anything and everything I do is an inconvenience
to someone and those around me, that i'm not a burden...
I'm a person.
And you know what the real burden of it all truly is?
It's the world that we live in, where i have the burden to deal with all of this and still
have the everyday life stuff that we all have to deal with.
That our systems in place made it so a sexual predator and a racist disgusting I don't want
to call you a human, and all the people with you, was elected president and then our government.
Living in a world destroyed by previous generations and greed, and the people with the money to
change it just wanting to burn it all to the ground to make more money, 'cause who needs
a planet?
Who needs air?
Who needs water?
The real burden of it all is living under white supremacist patriarchy and capitalism.
So like I guess when I get all up in my head and my feelings and I listen to all the messages
thrown at me, and end up feeling like a burden somehow, I just remember that there are people
who want to take healthcare away from millions and would rather vote against their own interests
to try to make sure marginalized people don't have the same rights as them, and that's who
the real burden is.
We come in peace, or at least destruction of the white supremacist patriarchy.
-harsh whisper- SUBSCRIBE for new garbage whenever it gets posted, social media crap
in the description k bye.
Also like politicians purchased by the NRA are umm definitely a huge burden to all of
us, why... why would you think that you represent anybody except your wallet?
Goodbye.
