I warmly welcome you to the
podcast Quint-E. My name is
Beatrice Bürger and I'm so
excited to see how you like today's
episode. It's all about the subject of
being in a good mood. As a good mood
keeps us healthy. To make a little
excursion, to the (German)
book: "Your wisdom, our luck:
The quintessence of Methuselah",
I'd like to give you an excerpt by
Christina Lösing. Mr. Gesing (author)
traveled through Germany to
interview several Methusela and
asked them for their quintessence.
His book is quite new, it was only
presented in June in Berlin.
I attended this event in person,
as some of you might have
noticed, and I was able to
meet some 100-year olds in
person.
And it's so nice to learn from them.
That's why I'd like to share
with you some excerpts of
Christina Lösing.
She was born in 1915, as one
of 11 siblings in Westfalen, Germany.
She married and had three kids
and devoted her time raising them.
She was very excited about the talk
with Mr. Gesing and she overall
radiates a bright serenity. She lives
in a retirement home on the
German-Dutch border in
Westmünsterland. Let's point out
that Rei Gesing gives all interviewees
a name, a title. And she is "the
serene one". So thanks a lot for
this wonderful book Mr Gesing,
it's a bound book and
if you're interested, I've put
a link in the
show notes, so you can order
a copy. There's so much
wonderful wisdom, so many
interviews that are presented, that
this is really just a drop in the
ocean. There's a few standard
questions, that Mr. Gesing asked his
„Methuselah", and the first one is:
"Why do you think you managed
to grow so old, Ms Lösing?"
L: „I've been very lucky, as you
could say, I'm a very bright and
happy person. Even nowadays
I'm usually in a good mood,
which is surely relevant for
good health. And you need a
solid, strong health to grow
old."
R: "What's most important in
life for you?" L: "Good contacts
with other people.
I value this a lot. I get a lot of
visitors which is great!
And more generic, I'd say that a
good education is quite important,
to secure a solid job later
on."
Another question, and I'd quickly like
to point out - Ms Lösing, 103 years -
our Methuselah that are still alive,
and have experienced two world wars
among other things. The next question is:
"How did you overcome stress, anger,
fears, conflicts and crises in your
life?"
L: "Well, that's just life.
These things happen, wherever
there's people. The sun doesn't shine
every day, but we know that everything
passes by. Sometimes things like
that resolve all by themselves,
I've experienced this a lot. And if
we consider how people are today
and how they used to be...I will just
leave it at that for now,
maybe you can think about
it some more by yourself."
R: "What's your
wish and advice for the young
generation?" L: "They do whatever they want!"
(laughing) "But that's how it
should be.
They shouldn't always have to look
out for the negative. Let the young
people enjoy their youth!
But they should also learn
to be alone. To be able to
enjoy their own company.
Being alone doesn't necessarily
mean being lonely.
Being alone can be quite nice.
I like being by myself from time
to time."
R: "What do you think is the purpose of
life?" L: "Doing the things you enjoy
as much as possible. Ideally in your
free time and at work."
R: "What is happiness for you?" L: "I love to
sit in my big armchair back there.
It's the most comfortable in the house.
I usually sit here all morning and
observe what's happening in the house.
I sit back, observe, let it
all sink in, and I'm
happy."
R: "Do you still have dreams and wishes?"
L: "To sometimes get a bit of appreciation
and recognition. Like today
from yourself.
No really, I don't need more. I'm
happy all around."
Thank you so much Ms Lösing and
Mr Gesing for this great interview.
So Christine Lösing, at 103 years,
is convinced that a good mood
significantly influences our health,
as you've just heard. Our elders
share their knowledge and life
experience, which is more than
empty words or nicely decorated
quotes in a seminar.
As perfect prove for authenticity
in life, I want to go a bit
deeper into this, as it matches
our project so wonderfully.
Let's be honest:
A good mood has become quite
rare these days, at least in our
area of the world.
Don't you think so? On the bus, the
supermarket, or even in a traffic
jam…
Oh dear.
At work or at home, even in your
own mirror.
Anywhere you go, you meet
bad-tempered people.
Although it's so easy to find, it's
free and no one else is
responsible for it, only
yourself. Of course you don't
wake up with a big fat smile on your
face every day.
That's not what it's about here.
But who wants to go through life
with a constant unhappy
mood?
I'm sure you can relate to that.
The interesting part of this story is,
that health can be trained, just
like a muscle.
As I've been fortunate to start
dancing at only 4,
I naturally noticed
on my own body, how interesting
the entire structure of the body
works, from an early age. And
every athlete will be able to
confirm this. If you regularly train
your body every day of the week,
at least six days per week,
so much is happening.
And when you then go on your
summer vacation and don't move
for a while, you'll firstly get
"deficiencies".
You miss it a lot.
And the other thing, when you
return, you really notice how
your body has changed during
these four or six weeks.
I'm talking about regular training
here. And Willibald Ruch,
very interesting, leader
of the professional group
"Personality psychology and
diagnostics", of the Zurich university,
thinks: Who thinks every
night, and even if it's only six days
a week,
which is my own addition,
about three strange things he
experienced during the day,
will be happier in the future when
strange things are happening.
There's even recurring studies,
showing that after an 8-week
"humour training",
the life satisfaction as well as the
humour, are still increased
two months after completing
the program. And we're really
only talking about two months here.
Just imagine doing this for half a year,
or a full year.
There's people that function similarly,
by their character and nature,
who generally think positively.
Let me just remind you of the interview
with Leopold Kuchwalek. If you
haven't listened to this already,
it was episode
five.
Leopold Kuchwalek – listen to it!
It's so beautiful. During this time the
program changed perspectives,
which is really exciting.
It means, that negative events
loose their weight and positive
events are experienced stronger.
The US psychologist Barbara
Fredriksen also proved,
same as the other story,
that a bright attitude influences
our doing, thinking and our health.
According to her research,
a good mood boosts
creativity, increases
productivity and furthermore improves
problem solving abilities. And that's
very important in the business world
as well. There's so many companies,
businesses, where people are ill,
there's a bad atmosphere.
I mean, why are so many people ill?
Why are people away sick
so much?
Many claim it's
psychosomatic issues. But what does
that even mean, psychosomatic?
It's really quite important to work
on our good mood, on our
attitude.
Furthermore, we should also love
our work. „Love it, leave it or
change it", comes to my
mind here.
You might have heard this quote: "Love it,
leave it or change it", which means,
love your job or this situation.
„Leave it", means to let go „change"
means to shift it.
Love or change the situation. „Love it,
leave it or change it", you know what I mean.
Let me get back to my
core for a moment.
I'd like to give you
a little push and give you some
tips to implement,
to give you some advice how you
can regain your good mood
very very quickly!
Three points. They're super
easy, you'll notice in a moment.
"Spend time in nature", that's
point number one. "Spend time
in nature". Take a walk,
and miracles can happen.
Breathe fresh air.
You'll observe nature very differently.
The animals, the rustling of the trees in
autumn, the leaves on the ground.
And the wind that's blowing the
leaves. Just look up at the sky.
Ok, by the way, when was the last
time you looked up at the sky?
When was that? Take a walk in
nature.
It's scientifically proven, that even
a short time is enough to lower
our stress hormone levels as well
as the blood pressure.
You are more relaxed,
your confidence increases and you
can concentrate better.
The second point, whether in your office,
at home, or on the road, it doesn't
matter.
"Drink a lot". I'm sure you know that one.
Minimum 2 litres of water etc.
It's very very simple, and generally
speaking, there's a lot behind it.
Drink a lot, and I don't mean
alcohol.
The right water balance is the most
important for our body, as it consists
about 70% of water. Your brain is
even 90% water! And if you
don't drink enough - I can attest
this personally, as it's been that
way for me a few years ago -
you notice it too late,
once your body is
dehydrated.
You get anxious, nervous and the
mood declines. I also got
headaches. I didn't
really properly allow myself to
eat and drink. I partially forgot
about it, as the pressure was too
high, as I had too many things to
do, tasks to accomplish, or sticking
to deadlines etc. I'm sure you can
relate. Drink lots and lots of water.
It raises your mood and
concentration. "Eat something rich in
vitamins",
that's the third point. Sounds quite
simple, and it really is. Just take some
nuts to the office with you,
sunflower seeds for example, or
brazil nuts. They contain vitamin B1
which definitely helps to bring up
your good mood levels.
Or Oats and lentils. Lentils
for instance, if you cook your
lunch at night for the next day,
some things are quite good
for that. If you have a
microwave in the office, you can heat
it up. Lentils or oats contain zinc,
which helps your body to produce
serotonin, a happiness
hormone, so that's very important.
Then there's lots of coconut products
around these days, luckily we can
buy them just about everywhere.
Coconut oil, milk, water, etc.
They provide your body with selenium.
Selenium is very important, it has
anti oxidising properties and
protects the nerve tissue.
Then there's another simple
point. Ok, it might be a bit hard
to find in autumn or winter,
but especially
right now, during this beautiful
summer...
Fill up on sunshine! Sun helps your body
to produce vitamin D, all by itself
in your skin. Vitamin D is
incredibly important
for your bones and especially for
your immune system.
As we're not getting a lot of
sunshine in Germany and many
other surrounding countries,
it's been recommended for a few years,
even modern medicine recognized it,
to take vitamin D
supplements.
To take vitamin D pills so to
speak. I'm personally not a big
fan of dietary supplements,
or tablets etc. But, and I'm saying
that very deliberately, there
might be a few things out there
that can be individually used for our
bodies.
You just have to find out for
yourself what that is. So it's best
to talk to your doctor,
your general practitioner,
and ask him what you can do.
You can simply do a check-up,
a general health check-up at your
doctor, I also did that recently.
From a certain age this should be
done anyways. Your eyesight,
rhythm of the heart, your lung volume.
Do a blood test.
And when you do the blood test,
there's an extra point as far as
I can remember, ask your
doctor specifically,
this was recommended to me,
to explicitly check
the vitamin D levels. For many
of us it is just much too low!
And therefore you can
carry the basis for a weak
immune system within yourself.
So that's another small tip, just
have all that tested, do a check-up.
And then you'll know for sure if
you should possibly supplement
or not.
Ok, this already brings us to the end
of this podcast.
I'm so happy to have your attention
and hope you enjoyed this
episode,
that you were able to take away
some things for yourself. The words
of Christina Lösing gave all of this
a face, that a good mood
significantly influences
our health.
She felt that in her own body,
and the lady is over 100 years old.
I'd like to emphasize once again,
that this is so very important! Today
is July 28....sorry, August!
The 28th of August. I'm a bit
confused sometimes, I'm still
jetlagged, I just traveled home from
Costa Rica to Germany and
only landed yesterday.
And when you're listening to this
podcast, you might have also
attended our first live webinar
last saturday.
I really hope you liked it!
It's going uphill very quickly now,
Quint-E lives, Quint-E is alive and it
grows and thrives and it's so
wonderful to have real experts on board,
to interview them and to have this
opportunity to share
knowledge through this podcast
for free. You can deepen your
knowledge or work on yourself
personally.
That's another thing I've introduced.
For a while now I've been working
intensively on the quintessence
basis program "Quint-a-Sense",
written differently this time, it's a
bit tricky and ambiguous.
I really enjoy these word games
a lot.
The basis program contains
4 weeks of work, it's built
so it can be worked through
within 28 days, or actually even in
25 days. There's 5 modules
that play a role in it, and we
work through them consecutively.
This will surely be an eye-opener,
it will encourage you to overcome
fears and to finally live in the present
moment. So if you're one of these
people who aren't in such a good
mood every now and then, and you
think "Damn, how can I get out of that?"
then this is the right program for you.
I would also like to quickly point out,
that you can book this program at any
time, is doesn't matter when, and you will
have immediate access. And I'd
love to receive your feedback
once you've completed this program,
please make sure to leave a
comment.
You're also welcome to join our
Facebook group if you take the
program. We have many nice things
lined up for you. For now I'm wishing
you a very wonderful day!
