Hey everyone, Today we are talking about Charlottesville schools. How they rank,
highlights, and other helpful and practical information. So let's get
started! Welcome to my channel and welcome back to school students. I know
all of you parents are grateful that your kids are back to school and you get
your houses back. My name is Ashley Jurney and i'm a realtor and buyer
specialist with Town in Charlottesville Virginia. You can visit our website and
learn more about us at towncville.com. There are seven elementary schools, two
middle schools, one high school, one technical education center, one Community
College and one University, The University of Virginia. Charlottesville
schools ranked among us school divisions is top 4%.100% of our schools are fully
accredited whereas the average for the state of Virginia is around 86%. They
have been awarded 11 blue-ribbon Awards for excellent in music education. There
are four hundred and fifty six teachers, three hundred and seventy nine other
staff and 71% of the teaching staff have advanced degrees with 13 years of
experience. The average class size for preschool is 16 elementary 19, middle
is 19 and 1/2, high school is 20. There are currently four thousand three
hundred and thirteen students enrolled from kindergarten to twelfth grade. The
current operating budget is seventy eight and a half million dollars for
2018. That means that about sixteen thousand eight hundred is spent per
student. Demographics are shown in this graph.
24% of these students are in gifted education that's almost 1/4 of our
students. 13% of these children are special education and 15% are ESL
students. So there's so much to say about our elementary schools my son goes to
Jackson via he's in the quest program which is Charlottesville's gifted
education program and they provide intellectually gifted students
kindergarten through 12th grade with appropriate educational experiences and
keep them challenged. They usually meet with their quest teacher a minimum of
once a week. Charlottesville schools have made a
strong commitment to healthy habits and so they started the city school yard
garden project. Charlottesville believes in life ready
graduates by tapping into the real world resources and exploring actual problems
students can integrate the skills they learn for life.
For instance Clark elementary students conducted a school-wide wishing for
Wells program project by engaging in math and literacy activities relating to
world water issues. Students even made a video (just like me) featuring their
immigrant peer sharing experiences about clean water shortages in their country
of origin. They ended up donating their own coins which turned out to be more
than a thousand this was to benefit Chris Long's water boy
foundation that digs wells in East Africa go Clark elementary after
attending neighborhood elementary schools all Charlottesville students
attend Walker upper Elementary School which serves grades 5 & 6
Buford middle school which serves grades 7 & 8 & Charlottesville High School
which serves grades 9 through 12 Charlottesville high school ranks number
5 for high school SAT scores in Virginia and Virginia Beach the national averages
and the percentage of Charlottesville high school students taking at least one
AP exam is 35% out of those 965 exams are taken which means those high school
students could be graduating with college credits Piedmont Community
College Piedmont Virginia Community College is
an open-access Community College offering two-year associate's degrees
one-year certificates continuing education and workforce training I went
to this school for two years before pursuing my bachelor's degree but I can
honestly say I got an amazing education at Piedmont and at a discount to versus
spending tuition at a four-year university I was a single mom and so
this was the best and most affordable route for me my tuition was covered by
grants and scholarships and I graduated debt-free and left with many close
relationships I had developed with my teachers some of us locals call it
Harvard on the hill if that gives you any indication of the kind of education
and provides Piedmont is separate from K Tech which is a regional Technical
Education Center where students can earn college credits and industry
certifications the University of Virginia is an iconic public institution
of higher education boasting nationally ranked schools and
programs distinguished faculty a major academic medical center and proud
history as a renowned research university the community and culture of
the university are enriched by active student self-governance sustained
commitment to the Arts and a robust NC double-a Division one athletics program
as you can see I'm a huge advocate for Charlottesville city schools if you are
