It is the I want to say 2nd of June and since it is the most beautiful day
and I cannot step outside due to being punished every single time I do thanks to hay fever and allergies.
I thought I would do a reading vlog because I haven't done one of those in a very long time
and also I'm just bored because I really love reading outside I get so much reading done when I read
outside in the sun and I currently can't do that without my eyes swelling up
massively and going into a total sneezing fit. So I thought I would vlog today
to give myself something to do and I am currently reading 'Tower of Dawn' by Sarah J. Maas.
Which feels so weird to be reading and so weird to be back in this
world because I don't think I have read anything in the kind of 'Throne of Glass'
series for a year. No, I didn't read any last year. So two years, for two years I have
not read anything in this series and yeah it feels really weird.
I'm really enjoying it. Having said that, I am very much aware of all of its problems and
how many issues this series has and this author has. Which is why once I've finished
this series I'm just gonna kind of be done with the author unless she kind of
steps up a game and starts to fix the issues and the lack of diversity and the
treatment of marginalized people in her books because it's not great.
But I started this series before I knew about any of those things and I'm so far gone
with this series and it just has me so completely pulled in and I'm so
attached to it that I am gonna continue with it but once I have finished it, that
is kind of it. That's done. Which is why I'm not going to be reading the new
'A Court of Thorns and Roses' book, even though I really enjoyed that series as well.
So far I am really enjoying this. I'm just loving being back in this world
and the characters because I do absolutely adore the characters and this
is following Chaol who I adore with all my heart. And then it's also following a
character called Yrene, who we met in 'Assassins Blade'.
I'm really loving her character/ I'm really loving her perspectives and I'm really loving
Chaol's perspective and I kind of I love them together. As much as I would like to, I'm
really not enjoying Nesryn's perspective. It's not even that I'm not
enjoying it, I just don't really care what she has to say. No that's not fair.
I do like her as a character and I like her when she's kind of in the story but
her perspectives I'm just not enjoying that so much and
also this is far too long. This I think is just under 700
pages and it's just far too long. It doesn't need to be that long. So I am
really enjoying this but I do wish I had a hundred pages left, rather than 300 pages.
My May PageHabit box just arrived because apparently the postman realised
that I needed some actual content for this vlog as opposed to just not having any content.
So I thought I would open it up right now because I am very excited about it.
I have the YA box this month so I'm just gonna get straight into it.
Okay the first thing we have in this box is a colour changing pull light
which is super cool but also I don't know, you can't eat everything in the box hon.
Oh okay, it's basically just one of those cool fully lights and it's multicoloured.
It changes colours. So that is incredibly cool and my dog is just leaning on me
and being adorable. I don't know where I'll put this but I'll definitely
have to find somewhere to put it. We then have a boot mark bookmark, which is absolutely adorable.
I think the little feet just pop out from the bottom of the book
I then have the little leaflet telling you what all the other genre
boxes got to this month because if you don't know, PageHabit offers a wide range of genres.
With things like young adult, science fiction, fantasy, romance.
Just all the good stuff and then on the back it explains where this month's PageHabit
donation went to because PageHabit donates to different literary
organizations in Africa and Mays donation that went to South Africa to an
organisation in a town outside of Cape Town. Which is the first and only girls school in
I'm not sure how to even begin to pronounce the name so I'll put
it on the screen that is offering Montessori School and providing quality
STEM education for girls in South Africa. Which is incredibly cool because my mum
works at a Montessori School and I love the fact that this box does give
donations to the literary organisation in in Africa because it just I don't know
it makes it seem so much more special. It makes me very happy
to know because I am very lucky and privileged to be able to get books and
it pains me to think about how many people aren't. I then have the PageHabit
bookmark, which comes with the PageHabit box each month and it says
'Of all things, I liked books best.' Which I adore and also I always use these bookmarks.
Ever since I started getting these PageHabit boxes, I only ever use these bookmarks
because they're fantastic and always absolutely adorable. We then have the
short story that comes with every PageHabit box and this one is 'The One Who Remains' by John Sollitto.
And then I think the last item in the box before the book
is this adorable little snow, I want to say snow cone keychain
but I don't think snow cone is the right word. I think that's the thing that the
Yeti gives Sully and Mike in 'Monsters Inc.' That's not it what is it? Snow globe!
This adorable snow globe keychain, with a tiny little deer inside. Which is absolutely adorable.
And then finally we have the book of the month, which I am so ridiculously excited about.
I feel as though PageHabit has just been doing the most amazing books their boxes lately because this is
'Undead Girl Gang' by Lily Anderson. This was one of my most highly anticipated releases of this year.
So I'm just over the moon that we have this in the box.
Then this also comes with a letter from Lily Anderson herself.
Which I am very excited to read because I just love reading those and the annotations from
Lily Anderson because each PageHabit box is annotated by the author of the book.
This I believe is basically about a young girl whose best friend goes
missing or dies and she decides to try and work out what happened and it's kind
of a paranormal kind of thing. I think there are witches involved and I'm just
gonna read you the last little sentence of the letter from Lily Anderson because
I think that kind of probably sums it up really well and I just think it's really lovely.
So it says 'Undead Girl Gang is the book I needed when I was a teen.
It's about grief and friends and first love.
It's about the power of second chances. It's all about magic.' It sounds fantastic and
I believe the main character in this is latina and also a plus-size girl, which I
am so incredibly excited about and I've heard fantastic things about this from
people that read the ARC when it came out. So this super, that is the cuckoo clock.
So this I am super, super excited about. I feel as though I've probably said that
far too many times already but I cannot wait for this because it sounds absolutely wonderful.
If you would like to try out to the PageHabit box
or any of the other genres that they do, I will leave a link to that in the
description box and also my coupon code which is just GIRLREAD which will give
you free shipping if you're in the US and five dollars off your box if you
are outside for the US and I would definitely recommend it.
I really, really enjoy getting the books each month and I have gotten the most
amazing books over the past couple of months. I feel as though they've been
really doing brilliantly with the YA books specifically recently. So I would
definitely recommend that if you would like to try it out and as I said, I will
leave my coupon code in the description box if you would like to try it out and
right now I need to go and feed this one because she is obviously very hungry and
far too hot sitting in here and in the sun because she is just ridiculous.
Yeah, she will refuse to do anything when it is sunny. The only thing is she will do is
sunbathe and it doesn't matter how hot she gets, she will continue sunbathing.
Her willpower is astonishing and I am incredibly envious of it but it
also means that we have to keep shutting her away in the shade.
So yeah, that is what I'm gonna go do now.
I was just putting together my TBR for Pride Month and then realised that
that's something that properly would make sense to put in a reading vlog.
So thought I would share with you the books that I'm hoping to get to this month.
Although I don't think I will be able to get all of them. In fact I know that
I won't be able to get all of them and also these aren't all of the books that
I own that I could read for it but these are the ones that kind of on the top of
my priority to get to. The first one is 'The Miseducation of Cameron Post' by Emily M. Dadforth.
Which I was sent by Penguin Platform as part of their
Penguin Pride Book Club and I believe this is the first one they're reading.
They also sent a load of these post cards with the other books that they are
reading for it and I think as I said this is the first one. Which is happening
from the 4th of June it to the 17th of June. So I'm definitely hoping to read
this at some point whilst the book club is going on because I feel as though that
would be a really fun thing to do and also I know nothing about this book.
Other than the movie adaptation is coming out at the end of this summer and
I was going to look it up and see what it was about but then I just realised
that I enjoy books so much more when I go into them knowing absolutely nothing.
So that is all I'm gonna do with that one. The next book I have is 'Like Water' by Rebecca Podos.
Which is all about a girl who is bisexual and has become a
carer for her father who has Huntington's disease and I don't know
anything more than that but it sounds fantastic and I've heard really, really
great things about it and I've been meaning to pick this up for a very long time.
I also have 5 'If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo
which is about a trans girl and again know nothing else about it but
again I've heard the most superb things. I then also I finally want to read
'History Is All You Left Me' which will be the first book I've ever read by Adam Silvera.
Which is absolutely ridiculous and I have no idea how I've managed to
go this long without reading any of this books. Actually I do.
I've just heard they're super sad and emotional and I'm not good with super
sad and emotional books but I need to get around to reading this because it is
absolutely ridiculous considering how many wonderful things I've heard about
his books but I believe this about a young boy whose first boyfriend just
died and the grief that he is feeling from his boyfriend's death is majorly
worsening his OCD but that is all I know about this.
I then have two graphic novels. The first is 'Goldie Vance' by Hope Larson, Brittney Williamson and Sarah Stern
and this I am so incredibly excited about because apparently it's
kind of like 'Nancy Drew' and 'Veronica Mars'. Which sounds fantastic because
'Veronica Mars' is one of my favorite TV shows of all time.
And I believe the main character in this is a biracial, bisexual girl
and that is all I know but it sounds fantastic and the artwork in it is just absolutely gorgeous.
Then the last book I have on my pride TBR unless I decide to kind of change things up a bit is
'The One Hundred Nights of Hero' by Isabel Greenberg.
And again, I know absolutely nothing about this whatsoever but the art is incredibly intriguing and interesting.
If you've read any of these books, I would absolutely love to know what you thought of them because as I said,
I don't really know that much about the plot of any of them but I have
heard pretty good things about most of them. So I am very excited about it and
yeah that is that and now I've got to go and finish the book I'm currently reading
reading so I can jump into one of these. I have officially had enough. So I have
grabbed my book and I'm gonna bring it and go outside because I just can't
stand being stuck inside whilst it is so gorgeous outside, which is so very rare for the UK.
Also it's a little bit later now, so hopefully the pollen count will have lowered.
I don't think that's how it works but I'm gonna tell myself that's how it works.
But I'm just gonna keep my fingers crossed and pray to the
pollen gods that, I don't know, they just don't attack me quite as much.
Otherwise I will end up spending the entire day just sneezing my head off.
I'm gonna risk it. I'm now kind of starting to persuade myself this isn't a great idea.
But I just want to make more of a dent in this because although I am
enjoying it, I kind of feel like I want to finish it soon.
I had intended on this just being a one-day vlog kind of thing but I forgot
to end it and it's been about a week since I last filmed anything for it
because I haven't been able to film anything. So I thought I would end it
here but before I do, I thought I would do one last update and what I've been reading.
As I finished 'Tower of Dawn' and I actually really, really enjoyed it.
I just loved being back in the world and back with the characters but as I said before,
it was definitely far too long. I've also made quite a bit of a dent in
my pride TBR with 'If I Was Your Girl', 'One Hundred Nights of Hero' and 'Goldie Vance'.
All of which I really, really enjoyed. Especially the graphic novels, they were a lot of fun.
So I would definitely recommend those.
I am currently reading 'The Miseducation of Cameron Post' by Emily M. Danforth.
Well, I'm say I'm currently reading it. I literally just started it and I'm about
40 pages into it. So I have no idea how I feel about it yet. I have a feeling this
is gonna be a pretty heavy read, from both what I have heard and also just the
subject matter and the density of it because I think it's just under 500 pages.
So I am definitely gonna read this now but I think I also may carry on and
read a couple more volumes of 'Goldie Vance' as I read this.
So yeah, I think I might go and read a little bit more of this or more realistically and
more likely, I'm gonna go and watch the final episode of 'Lost in Space' because I
have been marathoning that this week and absolutely loving it. So I'm probably
gonna go and watch that and then maybe read a little bit more of this.
But yeah, that is that for today and I just hope you've been having the most fantastic week.
