Hey hey! Welcome back to the Tsar Experience with me Conor Clyne and
today we are in Bologna, Italy. Buongiorno! So Bologna is the capital of
Emilia Romagna. The city is known as La Dotta because of its world-famous
university La Rossa which means the red and like grassa that's because the food
here is so good so delicious. So in today's video, I'll going to be showing what you can get
for $1,000, about 800 euros if you come here for a few days so with that
said let's get into the video!
So if you're wondering why am I in Bologna in particular it's actually
because I studied here. I studied international relations at SAIS which is the
School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins and I had a phenomenal
year here so I have such fond memories here we actually have a reunion every
five years so that's why I'm back this weekend what you're probably more
interested in is how much is all this gonna cost. So Bologna, first thing
you're gonna need is accommodation. For a nice apartment in the city center on
Airbnb it will set you back about yeah about 125-250 US dollars per night. Of
course we go outside of this beautiful centro storico, the old town then it's
gonna cost you a bit cheaper maybe 80 to 200 euros so that's kind of the price
range that you should budget for for accommodation here in Bologna - La Rossa.
So you should be able to see behind me just around maybe there somewhere the
Neptune fountain which is a major landmark here in the center of Bologna.
Now one of the other big traditions in northern Italy in particular also here
in Bologna is aperitivo and that's basically where you go and have a drink before
dinner and then you can help yourself to a plate of food. It's a great Italian
tradition to get yourself warmed up before dinner and that brings me the
price of things like cocktails is usually in about seven eight euros
probably maybe a tiny bit cheaper than that so that's gonna be about eight nine
US dollars for a cocktail if you decide to have a glass of wine. Sangiovese is
the local grape here the local vintage and that is really tasty that should set
you back about three to five euros that's gonna be about four to six US
dollars. Beer tends to be a little bit pricier than you might expect because
that's normally about five euros for a beer here in Bologna. So that's about six
us six or seven US dollars so definitely take advantage of that aperitivo it's
one of the nicest traditions if you go clubbing ... so that's the whole deal on
drinks here in Bologna. So this city is also known as la grassa as I was
saying so the fat one. The food here is amazing. It's actually a national holiday
today in Italy. May 1st hence why there's so
many people on the street walking around. La Grassa, why is it so famous? You've
probably heard of spaghetti bolognese which actually in Bologna is known as ragu
that's name the sauce so that's one of the dishes that of course that's very
traditional that you find here in Bologna is everything with ragu. Another thing of
course are the tortellini they are really famous here so you can have those
in brodo in a broth or you can have them in with Parmesan cheese parmigiano and
that is delicious I have to say pretty heavy we're not so worried about the
calorie count here and then of course like everywhere like most places in
Italy is the gelato or the ice cream is divine and that is something that
it's hard to resist having a few times a day here because it's really really
amazing and actually not that expensive so how much is it all cost I'll say a
two to three course meal and a good restaurant here in the center Bologna
in the centro storico with some wine is probably gonna set you back about 40, 50
euros so that's about 50 to 60 US dollars I would budget that kind of
price range. The gelato is so cheap it's like only 2 or 3 euros so that's gonna
be like 3 or 4 dollars but you're gonna go do that a lot to believe me because
it's kind of like a little snack here. Coffee if you want to have an espresso
it's 1 euro so I went dollar 20 US. If you watch my Instagram stories regularly you'll see
that I'm usually having a flat white but you do not find that here in Italy. It's
more traditional more cappuccino or espresso macchiato if you want something
with milk but that's still good the coffee is of course a very high
standard by me pretty good it's actually really good quality so that's everything
I think I can say for food. So the main square here and then you can get a get a
bit of a 360 look at the center on a national holiday so yeah pretty pretty
neat so the next thing is transport. Now uber did not work here in Bologna and
I'm here May 1st 2018 and at this point that isn't an option so I took a taxi from
the airport which is not far outside the city and it is about 20 euros to come to
the city center so that's 25 US dollars so that's kind of what I see in terms of
transport here in Bologna that kind of price range not super cheap and that's
what happens normally when you don't have competition like uber around and
the prices are a bit higher so that's the situation if you want to take a taxi.
I have come to the Giardini Margarita which are the iconic gardens especially
for students here in Bologna that's actually where I spent a lot of time
when I was studying here what to get for 1,000 bucks here in Bologna is about 800
euros well first of all if you stay for about three nights it's gonna set you
back around for the apartment may be around $400
you got a factor in you know about $100 a day I think on that amazing food make
sure that you hit aperitivo enjoy a cocktail maybe two drink a few glasses of that
Sangiovese wine the local wine. Have as much coffee as you want because it's super
cheap also the gelato the ice cream amazing value for money so if you do
that take a few taxi rides eat out non-stop enjoy that great food you're
basically and club a little bit maybe at the weekend, you were gonna be right on
the mark for the 1,000 bucks 800 euros so that's what I have come to as a
conclusion for the price range here in Bologna. It has been an amazing weekend
