'Armed inmates seize wing and smash windows' in SECOND day of UK prison riot

  RIOT: Armed prisoners reportedly stormed Nash Wing of HMP The Mount.

A riot team was dispatched to deal with the second day of trouble at the facility. Prisoners carrying weapons are understood to have taken over part of Nash Wing – which houses 250 inmates.

Windows were smashed as violence continued, according to the BBCs Danny Shaw.

There was not believed to be a risk to the public. A Ministry of Justice spokesman said: Specially trained prison staff have been deployed to HMP The Mount to resolve an incident involving a number of prisoners.

The situation at the prison remains contained and there is no risk to the public. Yesterdays large-scale disturbance came as a report warned of staff shortages within the prison system – where HMP The Mount was listed as one of dozens marked a concern.

The Mount is a Category C prison in Bovingdon, holding more than 1,000 lags.

The facility, that has been open since 1987, is described as a hybrid training and resettlement prison which caters for a number of inmates nearing the end of their sentences.

Mark Fairhurst, acting national chairman of the Prison Officers Association, said staffing issues at jails are a national problem.

He said: Its an epidemic throughout the country and weve been telling the employer for years now that they need to sit down with us and restructure the whole salary scales.

They are just not competitive enough with other public sector bodies or private industry.

So we need to increase the starting salary to incentivise people to join and then we need to give them regular increments to incentivise them to stay. Thats not happening at the moment..

Royal Mail, for all its problems, is a bargain at this price, says HSBC

HSBC has upgraded delivery firm Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) to 'buy', saying the valuation is compelling, despite the risks involved in holding the shares.

Delivery volumes weakness and industrial relations uncertainties have weighed heavily on share price performance, the banking giant notes, but it argues that the risk/reward ratio is favourable at the current price of 400p or thereabouts.

HSBC's 12-month price target is 465p, which is 10p lower than its previous target, though it takes no account of the value of Royal Mail's surplus property, which HSBC reckons is worth 44p a share.

The reduction has been prompted by HSBC lowering its volume forecasts for 2018 to 2020 to the bottom end of management's indicated range of -4% to -6% compound annualised (negative) growth.

"As comparatives get easier later in this financial year we think that there is a greater probability of results being better than our current forecasts than there is of a further worsening in the rate of decline," HSBC's team think.

On the thorny subject of pension negotiations, which may yet lead to the unions taking industrial action in support of a better deal, HSBC said talks are "delicate" but management's proposed defined benefit cash scheme to replace the gold standard defined benefit offering is "innovative" as, in HSBC's view, "it mirrors the actual behaviour of the vast majority of members".

"The CWU, the group's main union, remains opposed, and has vowed to ballot for strike action should management seek to impose something that has not been agreed; however, in the circumstances we think the balance of probabilities favours a strike-free agreement," HSBC declared.

With a dividend policy supported by strong cash flows, Royal Mail's yield of 6% is now one of the highest in the European postal sector and the price/earnings multiple is around 20% discount to the peer group.

Tomahawk - US Long-Range Subsonic Cruise Missile [Review] - Duration: 4:30.

The Tomahawk Land Attack Missile is a long-range, all-weather, subsonic cruise missile that

is primarily used by the United States Navy and Royal Navy in ship and submarine-based

land-attack operations.

Introduced by General Dynamics in the 1970s, it was initially designed as a medium to long-range,

low-altitude missile that could be launched from a surface platform.

Since then, it has been upgraded several times with guidance systems for precision navigation.

It is now manufactured by Raytheon.

In 2016, the U.S. Department of Defense purchased 149 Tomahawk Block IV missiles for $202.3

million.

The missile is named after the tomahawk, a one-handed axe used by the Native Americans.

Variants:

There have been several variants of the BGM-109 Tomahawk employing various types of warheads:

BGM-109A Tomahawk Land Attack Missile – Nuclear (TLAM-N) with a W80 thermonuclear weapon.

Retired from service sometime between 2010 and 2013.

RGM/UGM-109B Tomahawk Anti Ship Missile (TAS-M) – active radar homing anti-ship missile

variant; withdrawn from service in the 1990s.

BGM-109C Tomahawk Land Attack Missile – Conventional (TLAM-C) with a unitary warhead.

This was initially a modified Bullpup warhead.

BGM-109D Tomahawk Land Attack Missile – Dispenser (TLAM-D) with cluster munitions.

RGM/UGM-109E Tomahawk Land Attack Missile (TLAM Block IV) – improved version of the

TLAM-C.

BGM-109G Ground Launched Cruise Missile (GLCM) – with a W84 nuclear warhead; withdrawn

from service in 1991.

AGM-109H/L Medium Range Air to Surface Missile (MRASM) – a shorter range, turbojet powered

ASM with cluster munitions ; never entered service, cost US$569,000 (1999).

Launch systems:

After achieving flight, the missile's wings are unfolded for lift, the airscoop is exposed

and the turbofan engine is employed for cruise flight.

Over water, the Tomahawk uses inertial guidance or GPS to follow a preset course; once over

land, the missile's guidance system is aided by terrain contour matching.

Terminal guidance is provided by the Digital Scene Matching Area Correlation system or

GPS, producing a claimed circular error probable of about 10 meters.

Navigation:

TERCOM – Terrain Contour Matching.

A digital representation of an area of terrain is mapped based on digital terrain elevation

data or stereo imagery.

This map is then inserted into a TLAM mission which is then loaded onto the missile.

When the missile is in flight it compares the stored map data with radar altimeter data

collected as the missile overflies the map.

Based on comparison results the missile's inertial navigation system is updated and

the missile corrects its course.

TERCOM was based on, and was a significant improvement on, "Fingerprint," a technology

developed in 1964 for the SLAM.

On July 26, 2014 it was announced that 196 additional Block IV missiles had been purchased.

You usually wear two of them on your feet

It's not round

And it usually has five points

This shape shines bright in the night sky

Do you know what it is?

It's a star!

That's the shape I was thinking of
