Papped! Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder spotted testing
This is our first glimpse at the new Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder, as our spies have papped the hardcore convertible Lambo testing at the Nurburgring.
The Huracan Performante took the 2017 Geneva show by storm and set an unofficial production car record laptime 6min52sec lap time at The Green Hell to boot. By that reference, the Spyder should be very fast indeed.
How fast are we talking here? .
Power from the naturally aspirated V10 is expected to be the same as the fixed-roof Performante at 631bhp, but an inevitable slip in performance due to the extra weight of the roof mechanism and reduced torsional rigidity in the bodyshell is expected.
It shouldn't be too detrimental, though, as the Performante's forged composite trimmings should help minimise the weight increase.
The fact that Lambo is at the Nurburgring testing its hot new convertible Huracan is no surprise, as every car maker is at it these days, but the brand could be aiming for the new Performante Spyder to be the fastest-ever convertible at the track.
Bearing in mind that the current quickest production car with a removable roof is the Porsche 918 Spyder, the Performante Spyder has to beat a time of 06min57sec. Will it still look extreme?.
Judging by the fins and vents in the front bumper and the whopper of a rear wing in our spy pics, yes it will.
Theyre all part of Lambo's ALA (Aerodynamica Lamborghini Attiva) active aero system, with active flaps and wings moved by electric motors to boost downforce and balance the aerodynamic load across the car at speed. Good, how much will it cost? .
We don't know yet, but the regular Spyder is roughly £20k more than the standard Huracan. By that reference, the Performante Spyder should command a similar premium over the hardtop, so the new Huracan could break the £200k barrier.
