Mr. Chalupecký, all your rehearsals with Accept are over. What is your impression?
In one word, impressive.
It is a great honor to play with such a legend of metal as well as to meet and get to know these gentlemen.
Overall, I think it is going to be a grandiose show.
How do you perceive the music of Accept? Wolf is a fan of symphonic music.
I have to admit that I am not a metalhead, so for me this is all pretty new.
Although, I kind of knew what was coming since we played with DIMMU BORGIR five years ago in Wacken, so I am a bit experienced.
They are excellent, professionals who know what they are doing, they are prepared, ready to communicate and collaborate.
No rock stars.
Do you feel an influence of symphonic orchestra in their music? All in all, Wolf is a fan of symphonic music.
Of course, in our first part, there is Mozart, Beethoven, Vivaldi and he made all those metal arrangements and changes.
But yeah, he honors the classic, which is good.
What is the difference in working with ACCEPT and DIMMU BORGIR?
DIMMU was heavier, the walls were trembling, with Accept they were just moving a bit.
But in general, there is no big difference.
It is just two worlds coming together as one and from the professional perspective, it has to work.
Communication like any other.
What do you remember from Wacken?
It was impeccable. I immensely liked it and I am really looking forward to playing again.
Well, it doesn't happen every day, that you play with metal legends for a crowd of 100 000 people.
How many rehearsals with Accept were there?
We have rehearsed for three days, double shifts, meaning 6 rehearsals in total.
Firstly, we did just the orchestra alone, then with the drums and finally everything together.
We played through the whole set list, which takes about 2 hours.
Is collaboration with metal acts different to your usual work?
Do you mean like symphonic orchestra work?
Well, it has to be done well.
I don't differentiate whether it is metal or symphony or opera, theatre show or a brass orchestra concert.
You have to have it rehearsed, well prepared, have good musicians on your team and background.
Then, it is just professional work.
And are Accept well prepared?
Yes, they are. We met with Wolf in June when he was in Prague
and he brought me demos and then I got the music sheets as well.
So, I printed everything I started studying. It wasn't like we met three days ago and started playing out of thin air.
There has to be preliminary work. Then went to the rehearsing process.
So, it was you the Czech National Symphonic Orcestra who did the symphonic parts with Wolf for his solo record?
Yes, it took place right here in Prague – Hostivař two years ago.
So the grounds for this big collaboration were laid here?
Probably yes. He wouldn't come back if he was dissatisfied, would he?
There is a lot of orchestras in the world nowadays, so it is a great honor and joy to play with him.
