U.S. lawmakers have proposed a resolution denouncing China for its economic retaliation

against South Korea over the deployment of the THAAD missile defense system.

This is the first ever move against Beijing involving both the Republican and Democratic

parties.

The resolution urges China to halt its retaliatory measures against South Korea,... calling them

"unreasonable and inappropriate".

Republican Ted Yoho,... who is chairman of the House Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific,...

formally proposed the resolution.

It was also backed by four other Republican congressmen and one Democrat from California.

The resolution singles out the actions of China such as the closures of Lotte Mart outlets

in the country and suspended sales of tour packages to South Korea.

It notes that the measures could constitute a violation of WTO regulations.

The resolution urges Beijing to "immediately cease its diplomatic intimidation and economic

coercion" against the South.

It also calls on China to pressure North Korea to give up its nuclear and ballistic missile

programs instead of undermining South Korea's sovereign right to defend itself against the

North Korean threat.

China has taken a number of economic retaliatory measures, including restrictions on South

Korean imports and cancellations of Korean performances.

This is in protest against Seoul's decision to host the THAAD anti-missile defense system,

which is set to be completely deployed in the coming weeks.

South Koreans gathered to honor the soldiers who lost their lives defending their country

against attacks from North Korea... at a ceremony marking West Sea Defense Day.

During the ceremony, held at the Daejeon National Cemetery,...

Acting President Hwang Kyo-ahn warned North Korea against conducting additional provocations

and called on the military to maintain a watertight defense readiness posture.

Families of the deceased gathered for the event with soldiers, veterans and citizens.

South Korea designated the special day last year to commemorate those who gave their lives

for their country during a series of North Korean provocations,... including the Second

Battle of Yeonpyeong in 2002 and the torpedo attack on the Cheonan warship in 2010, which

killed 46 South Korean sailors.

Chinese tourists to S. Korea expected to be sharply lower during 'Golden Week' - Duration: 1:09.

South Korea's tourism industry is concerned China's ongoing economic retaliation against

Seoul over the deployment of the THAAD missile defense system could negatively affect the

number of visitors during the so-called "Golden Week" holiday in early May.

Official figures show 63-thousand Chinese travelers came to South Korea during last

year's golden week.

This year's figure is expected to down sharply after Beijing announced a travel ban last

month.

A local travel agency says that,... even before China announced its ban, flight reservations

had been very low.

It's the polar opposite situation for flights out of Korea during the golden week.

Hana Tour says sales of tickets departing the first week of May have jumped nearly 20

percent from last year.

Sources say tickets bound to Japan and Southeast Asia have spiked 126 percent and 31 percent

respectively,... despite a 70 percent hike in prices.

Death toll in London attack rises to 5, as attacker is identified - Duration: 2:20.

Moving on to the latest on the London terror attack...

The death toll has risen to five after an elderly man died overnight.

The Islamic State militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the investigation

into the exact nature of its involvement is still being investigated.

Meanwhile, a similar attack was attempted in Belgium just a few hours ago.

Lee Ji-won has more.

The death toll for the attack near the UK's Houses of Parliament has risen to five, after

a 75-year old man, who had been receiving treatment at a hospital, was confirmed dead

by police on Thursday night.

That news came after Scotland Yard reported that they'd identified the attacker, who was

shot dead by police, as 52-year-old Khalid Masood, who was born in Britain.

Police say Masood, who had a number of aliases,... was previously investigated for "violent extremism,"...

and had a range of previous convictions including assaults and possession of offensive weapons.

But police also said Masood was not on the radar for any current investigations.

The Islamic State militant group claimed responsibility for the attack a day after it happened via

its news agency Amaq, calling the attacker a soldier of the Islamic State.

As the investigation into the attack continues, police arrested at least eight people in the

UK on Thursday -- three women and five men -- on suspicions of having had a hand in plotting

the attack.

Wednesday's attack left three victims dead on site, as the attacker drove through dozens

of pedestrians on Westminster Bridge and fatally stabbed a police officer who was guarding

the parliamentary complex.

Five Korean nationals were among the 40 people injured in the attack.

Even as the UK struggles to come to grips with the attack, a similar attack was attempted

in Belgium on Thursday, where a French man of Tunisian origin reportedly tried to careen

his car through a busy shopping area in Antwerp, forcing pedestrians to jump out of the way.

There were no immediate reports of injuries, as a rapid response team was fast enough to

intercept the car, which was loaded with a knife, a gun and a gas canister with an unknown

substance.

Belgian prosecutors identified the driver as a 39-year-old with the name Mohamed R.

... and the investigation is ongoing.
