Thank for watching !
A TV anchor is murdered and a mother's intuition says it was no random act of violence
I think this was a targeted attack against them then a mystery woman with a story of another attack
He was hiding my living earth. I never saw it coming. Could her ordeal expose the killer
and she was stopped by a man obsessed with breaking into her apartment again and again
He's not there with you
But this person is like in your most intimate things and the secret tapes that would help catch a stalker
Plus a beautiful young woman
Who's that don't add up and a mysterious fire that brings haunting memories to the detective on the case
I don't like I was on a mission
I needed to find her he follows a forensic trail for a year. But can he find Bethany?
danger next door
Welcome to 2020 on ID. I'm John quinones
Every day we encounter familiar faces the bus driver the shopkeeper the person who lives down the street
They may smile at us
But often we know very little about them the stories you're about to see involve people going about their daily lives
Unaware that someone nearby is watching stalking about to strike first
Kristin Edwards and and Presley they had little in common
One was a reporter the other a high school teacher
They lived a hundred miles apart
But as Jim Avila first reported in 2008 two random acts would tragically connect them
It's still dark on an early October morning and one of Little Rock Arkansas best neighborhoods a
break-in at this small house where a young woman lived alone with two cocker spaniels and an innocence about to be taken a
rising star on the local Morning News
Surprised in the darkness beaten into a coma and rape the bones and the face so many in her hometown had come to know
crushed beyond recognition
26 year olds mother unable to reach her on the phone arrived to find her daughter unclutch the horror of the crime
magnified by who she is, so
Familiar so young just 26 and so on the rise my man pressing with a look at your local headlines
There was just no stopping huh? She was just so full of life. It was not an if she gets there. It's just when
100 miles away and seven months earlier another woman living alone in this Marianna
Arkansas Howe a schoolteacher who watched and Pressley every morning readies for work before sunrise when
She suffers an all too similar brutal attack. It was a surprise
he was hiding in my living room and
I
Never saw it coming
Kristen Edwards
Like and Presley young and fearless when she was attacked says her rapist warned her not to turn around
Told her he had a gun knew her house well and would kill her if she tried to look at it. I
pretty much did as I was told to do I didn't look I
didn't fight I
Stopped yelling that sort of thing. He attacked her from behind that early morning pushed her face down in the couch
She never saw. What did he tell you a lot of shut up a lot of don't look at me. I never did look
the terrifying difference in this eerily similar brutality and
presley fought back
As Anne's friends and TV viewers gathered for a candlelight vigil outside the hospital where the unconscious anchorwoman fought for her life
Doctors found that her left hand was broken a defensive loop
So to say the severity of the beating was far in excess of what you would anyone would expect could be done with the human
faster hand and we're hoping and praying that if that was the first hit that
Maybe after that she felt nothing else. That's our hair
It was in fact for a mother Patty who found Anne beaten in her bed that all morning a
Relationship so close mom and daughter talked every day by phone
Starting with a 3:30 in the morning wake-up up to help and make it to the studio on time for her 5:00 a.m. Newscast
Patty, it's three o'clock in the morning
Yes dark, obviously, it would be weeks before patty and her husband died
Kennedy could go back inside their daughter's little house
Taking police first then 20/20 inside to show us what she remembered about that horrific morning
All right, so patty when you come here, what do you notice about the lights?
I just noticed that the lights are on in the house. And so it's
Not just in the corner. He had come through the back door and kitchen. Nothing was disturbed the living room intact
She might be in the shower. I thought she could be in her dressing room getting ready
But that back bedroom were an slappers was a nightmare. It came into my bedroom and I found Anne right here
It was pretty bad. It was very bad, and we were able to speak to her. I said Anne and and
Mama's here. What's happened? I said who did this to you and I kept saying and mommy's here
Mommy's here help is on the way. It's gonna be. Okay. Don't be afraid. Mommy's right here
This was a gruesome scene
There was blood on the ceiling
But there were some doubts about the investigation
Anne's parents found it hard to believe what police had characterized as the motive for the attack
Robbery by a stranger. Do you think it anyway that this was a random burglary with someone who didn't know her?
Absolutely not. I think this was a targeted attack against my daughter. I
really did
back at the hospital
Doctors had some hope in intensive care for the first time since the attack Anne had begun to move just a bit
I saw her move
one time and
other than that
they allowed me to rub her arms and rub her legs and other feet but then five days into a recovery a
sudden, turn and
brain stem rupture pouring blood into her skull
It is with very heavy hearts that we tell you that our and Presley has died as a result of the injuries
She suffered earlier this week. I don't think anybody would have wanted to sit in the chair that night
Because of what and meant to me as as a family member if you will I
Felt I had to be able to tell her story it is the worst
Nightmare that any human being could ever have to face to lose it to help
To find your child
I also never be the same
An had died without recovering enough to help police or answer her desperate mother's question and who did this to you
But patty Kennedy was determined to get justice. I am NOT leaving. I
Will say this person Ida
They'll have to face me. Thank God
and
100 miles away Kristen Edwards the other victim struggles with that same problem
She never got a good look at her rapist but his confident g2 will look her attacker in the eye
I want to say to his face what he's done to me
You're not afraid to go back and be in his presence. He
Doesn't have power over me anymore. But since police had no leads and no witnesses. Would these two women ever get that chance?
When we return a break in the case, is this the man who killed Little Rock's rising star?
Stay with us
The murder of 26 year-old morning anchor and Presley had Little Rock on edge
Sexually assaulted and murdered in her own back apparently by a stranger who took her laptop
computer a credit card and little else
The way she lived her life where she lived all of these things and it still happened
From day one Little Rock Police had powerful evidence and had fought her attacker
Claudette and he left behind DNA from sperm blood and his skin taken from beneath her fingernails
We believed that we had enough that day to charge somebody if we just knew who that person was
two hours away in Lee County Arkansas as poorest community as
Crime and a similar challenge a victim who could not identify her attacker
I knew if they ever found a suspect and could match DNA
But where I didn't see a space I didn't know if there would ever be a suspect
Kristen Edwards a Marianna high school teacher who left her home in Maine to help the disadvantaged had survived her attack
by never looking at her rapist even when he robbed her after the assault he
asked for money and
I went through my wallet and I had three dollars in cash and I gave that to him
Afterwards, he stole my cell phone. I
Did everything that you're I guess supposed to do when something like that happens to you
Including going to the hospital immediately. So detectives working her case had rapists DNA to compare
But for seven months there were no breaks and worst of all
She knew that her attacker in this small town could be next door
I was incredibly and still went to some extent scared
Yeah
There was a lot of fear that whoever it was was around still and since you didn't see that person it could have been anyone
and then suddenly
Thanksgiving week a series of breaks the first at the Arkansas State Crime Lab Little Rock police get the phone call
They had been waiting for a match and an Presley's murder not to a suspect but to a crime
Kristen Edwards rape Little Rock Police jumped on the highway to Mariana 100 miles away
Hoping the victim who survived could help we went through everything that happened to me that day
And I think they were just trying to find a way to connect him to me and him to her
But she still could not identify it
So police had their DNA match between two primes months and miles apart, but still no face
no suspect until
when you guys pulled this guy over you had no idea that he would have mentioned become a suspect in a rape and murder a
Random traffic stop enter what some would call luck but Marianna police chief Vincent Bell prefers to call divine
intervention the pull over of a car with suspicious plates
Why did you think maybe we ought to see if it's this guy whose DNA we're talking about?
I guess the sixth sense that we sometime as police officers have in the
conversation and that he was having with me that
connected him with the city of mariana and the rock so he had kind of told you that he goes back and forth between Little
Rock and Mariana, yes. And so that a light bulb went off in here. Exactly. I said really?
a
simple connection that led Little Rock Police to this man
Curtis Vance who within an hour agreed to a DNA sample swab from his cheek
24 hours later the day before Thanksgiving the crime lab was on the phone again
About 4:30 on which the afternoon investigators were notified that that it was a match
Now police finally had a person match to the DNA
Found at the two crime scenes and Kristen Edwards found that her fears had been justified
Her attacker was still around he lived on her same block at this house
When they said his address on the news, it was kind of scary to know he had been that close
For 7 months, but when detectives showed up here to arrest him Curtis Vance had vanished
Little Rock Police held a frantic Thanksgiving a newspaper asking for help
We are getting and we're asking anybody with any knowledge of and you call us immediately
Now that his picture was public other residents of Little Rock began to remember suspicious encounters with the man police were looking for
And you're where?
treadmills in the front
Laurie is a personal trainer only a handful of blocks from where Anne Presley lived and told police
She saw a man stocking women around the gym just before Anne was murdered
He had been masturbating so you pretty sure you saw the man who is now suspected killed
The rock police have a suspect and they are on the lookout for this man
The hunt was on and the tips paid off almost immediately
Within an hour and a half of the news conference police had surrounded this little rock home and Curtis Vance gave up peaceful
In Marianna Kristen Edwards
Like the rest of Arkansas was just finding out how deeply her life had been tangled with the TV anchor
She used to watch every morning when I found out that there was a connection between my case and Ann Ann Presley's case
I was in a friend's house and just broke down
Absolutely broke down
the reality of
knowing that
The person who attacked me
was capable of so much more than he did to me as
Horrible as what happened to me was that it could have been so much worse Curtis Vance responded in public to only one question
Right after his arrest a simple shake of the head when asked if he killed and pressure
But police tell 2020 while Vance denies the murder he did admit to being at an Presley's house
Every day, well, I sat right next to her. I now look at an empty desk every day
it's just really quiet and
There's a big hole in the middle of a newsroom
it took homicide detectives less than six weeks to arrest a suspect in a murder with no witnesses the
calmest city rattled by the death of a young woman
Everyone felt they knew a star on the rise
Who lives on in the hearts of Little Rock and for those closest to her will never fade away?
What kind of monster are you that would take the life of an innocent child?
When I had to go to Anne's house and close it up for the last time
It was hard
When when I walked out that door
Locked the door for the last time and walked away
Never forget
Curtis Vance was found guilty of raping and murdering and Presley and sentenced to life in prison without parole as of
2014 he's been
unsuccessful in appealing his conviction
He was also tried for the rape of Kristen Edwards
But it resulted in a mistrial Edwards chose not to pursue a new trial and the charges against Vance were dismissed
Edwards has left her teaching job in Marianna and Presley's parents. Tell us they
Established a scholarship fund in their daughter's name for women pursuing journalism when we come back an unknown man
Lurking in a woman's home. I started coming home to just random lights left on in the house. I knew something was wrong
Is she in danger? I see this man's head poking around my door
Stay with us
Nicole Bishop was living alone in a new city, but she wasn't really alone
Someone was in her apartment
someone she didn't know and as Mary full Jannetty first reported in
2007 that mysterious someone had less than honorable intentions
It's a weird feeling when you come home and notice things are out of place
Your hairbrush is not where you left it
Your dresser drawer is open
but you remember closing, you know, you turn certain lights off, but when you get home they're on I
Trekked them at home to just random lights left on in the house
You know those in the closet - it was in my bathroom. I knew something was wrong
I have that that intuition when beginning
24 year old Nicole Bishop now wishes. She had trusted her intuition much sooner
She had just moved to Houston for a new sales job and was living alone in a gated community
She thought she was safe
There was security the patrols at night and you know gates to get in and out
For two months Nicole dismissed her feelings, but one day something happened
She simply couldn't ignore. I found a package delivered from UPS
I'm in fact balcony of my apartment if there was an only for UPS to access the back balcony her boyfriend
Jason was worried. She didn't have anybody else in the area. So and I was an hour away
It was kind of hard. You don't call the police. I don't because I mean what what would I call and tell the police?
I mean my lights are left on I called Jason and
he actually had an idea for me to get a hidden camera and
That's something a lot of people are doing that
intuition can turn into proof
video proof using a secret camera
So to catch her intruder Nicole acted on cases advice and bought a very special alarm clock with a hidden camera inside
She aimed it at the front door and she added some big dirt wrap
I did take the panties that I had and I took some lingerie as well and laid him on the couch
I figured that might be something that would keep their attention at least there for a couple of seconds
When she got home that night it looked like no one had been there but what about the laundry that you had on the couch?
Yeah with exactly as I elected
Jason then said well, you know we let's test this camera just to make sure it works
Nicolle downloaded the video expecting only to see herself walking into the apartment
But what she saw instead confirmed her worst fear. I see this man's head poking around my door. I
Lost it. She was screaming like a panicked fan. He's in my house is in my house
Those things person picking up my underwear start smelling it
You know nicely. I'm just walk around my apartment. Just looking through my things then I can pick up a lingerie
When he takes off his clothes and puts it on he tries it on he was wearing it. Yeah
He's pleasuring himself he's
Doing really strange things with my furniture
After he was done, he took the clothes lingerie off and put it back on the couch where he found it. I
Remember I was shaking. I was screaming I was just unmasked. It was like a blur to me
So who was the intruder to
Try to find out the police took Nicole's video and released portions of it to the media a young woman's worst nightmare
And it all unfolds on video
Sergeant bobby roberts was the lead investigator
So he didn't take long for the phone to ring and the phone call I got was anonymous
They arrested 38 year old Sean Rogers who lived nearby with his wife and young child
He had no criminal record and made a good living as a business consultant
Was it someone you knew at all?
Never seen him never how many times do you think he actually entered your apartment?
Dozens honestly, the neighbors actually had thought that I had a relationship with this guy because she would be at the house so much
But how did he get in?
Police think he picked the lock but Nicole thinks he had a key and though Nicole never came back to the apartment
Rodgers did and this time he made what would turn out to be a crucial mistake. He stole the clock
At the trial Nicole hope the graphic video would put Rodgers behind bars but under Texas law
He might only be found guilty of trespassing
As a possibility he would serve none at all
Simply it's a misdemeanor has punishment similar to a traffic ticket
Trespass trespass wasn't a sex crime because there was no sexual activity
I felt like you know, the laws were not protecting me, but I felt like I had to fight
If I wasn't strong and you know, the person gonna go free and either
did this to me or did this to somebody else but Nicole would get justice in an ironic twist because
Rogers stole the hidden camera. He was also charged with burglary a felony which carries a sentence of up to 20 years
The video was the star witness at the trial when that jury stood there and watched on that tape what was going on?
They had no doubt and if my memory serves me correctly, he was found guilty within 20 minutes
Rodgers was sentenced to eight years in prison hard time. He wouldn't be serving
If not for the unbeatable combination of a hidden camera and Nicole's intuition
What advice would you give to other women out there?
If you think something's not right, you know follow your gut, you know
It could very well be that there's nothing and that's great, but it could save your life. I
Feel like it saved mine
At Sean Rogers sentencing to other women stepped forward to testify that they too were his targets in
2012 Rodgers was released from prison after serving six years of his sentence when we come back a young woman
Vanishes and in her purse was money for driver's license for credit cards
She expect to come back and a detective is haunted by memories of his own past
I felt like I was on a mission and I needed to find her if not for her family, but you know maybe for me
Stay with us
At the age of 21 Bethany Carrera had already travelled the world and was starting off on a new adventure
College but just four days after moving into her apartment
Bethany vanished and as I first reported in
2007 her disappearance would send a local detective on a mission to find her and in the process
come to terms with a piece of his own past a
Beautiful 21 year old woman vanishes into the vast wilderness of America's last frontier
Bethany Carrera is just starting out living alone for the first time in the spring of 2003 when she simply
Disappears the story makes headlines and rattles nerves from Anchorage to Nome
The search grips all of Alaska and nobody more than homicide detective Glenn clink heart. How would you describe?
Bethany young vivacious
athletic
Go-getter I mean a young woman just ready to blossom into adulthood married with a five-year-old son
He'd been a rising star in the Anchorage Police Department
But in the spring of 2003 detective clink heart was burnt out dealing with death on a daily basis was getting to him
I was ready to quit
I told my family I said
I don't think maybe this is this is the job for me. But before he can turn in his badge, he's assigned to investigate
Bethany's disappearance
At 9:00 p.m
On May 4th detective clink Hart arrives at her apartment at 6:12 M Street in downtown Anchorage
He's met by the sergeant in charge basically said okay, what's up? And that's when he said look, here's what we've got
She's 21 years old
Her mom showed up this morning
supposed to go garage saleing hadn't seen
By seeming coincidence. There was a fire that morning in the building next door
It strikes clink heart as odd, but the sergeant has already dismissed it
He said fire department seems to think it's electrical I said, so there's no chance. She's in there
He says we they've been in there. They've looked she's not in there Mike
Okay
So come put down the back your mind Bethenny's mom coming for a visit
Discovers the door unlock if nobody home and Bethany's cell phone in the kitchen
Her partment was actually this one right up here and hanging in the closet is her purse and in her purse
was
Money her driver's license for credit cards or debit cards business cards the fact that she left everything here in keys or first
What did that tell you she expected to come back? But the apartment son yield any easy clues?
Nothing looks out of place nothing and so he starts with Bethany herself
Who is she raised in a log cabin with her sister and two brothers?
Homeschooled by her parents Bill and Linda. She's the quintessential young woman of Alaska adventurous
Yeah very much her father bill says by the age of 21 Bethany had already traveled the world
doing missionary work in Nepal
sailing for months in the remote South Pacific
sunbathing on glaciers high in the Alaska Range
What was she doing in Anchorage? She was just getting ready to go to college there when she found that apartment excited about it
Yeah, she thought it was just just great bike trails
Running trails right there right by the coast
So clink Hart search or Bethany begins on the nearby Coast Trail
Perhaps she'd fallen while running or gotten stuck on the mud flats
You can walk 20 minutes off to the road and be in a place where nobody's ever walked before
Clink card treats the case as a possible homicide with no body. No evidence
No witnesses and no suspects. We literally had to eliminate people
and the first thing you do is you look at her close friends family and certainly the boyfriend and eliminated Bethenny is embroiled in a
relationship with a man going through a divorce
Joe Tamblyn is a pilot but his flight records show he was airborne when Bethany disappeared
within a few days
I was comfortable of being able to remove suspicion from him and move on to other people the boyfriend
Remembers an early morning phone call on the day Bethany disappeared
She told him she was about to go meet her apartment manager. She said that she'd be
Should be learning how to show the apartments to Tennessee that bit of information and a note found on Bethany's fridge
Lead Klink heart to the manager. Mike Clausen invited us into his house that dad introduced me to his brother
Bob said hi. Bob Lawson tells police
He'd been home all day out in the suburbs of Anchorage and his brother Bob
Confirms it except at one point
Bob kind of spoke up and started to tell me about where he was and what he was doing and
Mike kind of turned to him and gave him that
That look I couldn't put my finger out the time that I kind of noted it with no hard
Suspects clink card keeps coming back to that fire next door
Bethany has been missing a month when investigators determined that it was not just an accidental electrical fire
It was deliberately set. No one can find a connection to Bethany but it sparks a mother's intuition
I don't know. What kind of connection there is there could be no connection
But we feel they might be
That fire next door also ignites a painful memory and an unresolved guilt deep inside
Detective clink heart fire has a very distinct odor
There are certain things that kind of signal you and smell is one of them. They took me back 22 years
I smelled that same smell when I walked up on our house. There was a murder victim a fire
Did it happen to your sister? Right? It was a little over 20 years ago that I at the age of
16
Our family left to go on a trip down south and my sister stayed behind
She was 17 years old at the time young Glen took a secret with him on that trip
His sister Dawn was planning to throw a party while they were away and their parents didn't know about it
We got phone call saying that they're gonna fire at the house my sister mom. We were informed that she was dead
Not just a fire but a murder a young man who had been at Dawn's party sneaked back into the house
Knowing that she was all alone
she had been not only murdered but it had a sexual assault and that her killer had set her on fire and
Tried to burn down the house a suspect was arrested
Convicted and sent to prison for life
Leaving young Glen with the painful knowledge that he might have saved his sister had he stayed home or told his parents
I spent a lot of time
Trying to figure out what I could have done what I should have done what I could have done if I'd been there
Could I saved her a lot of guilt for a lot of years?
He's never been able to tell his son about Dawn or the murderer
He's not even sure if that's what drove him to become a homicide detective
but he absolutely knows why binding Bethany became an obsession Bethany gave me an opportunity to make good -
To fix something. I thought I had done wrong it became personal
Absolutely the search for Bethany expands beyond anchorage and into the surrounding mountain ranges
Remember, she's young healthy athletic and loves the outdoors
it's summer in Alaska, and she
Could be anywhere
Suddenly everyone's attention shifts 30 miles south of Anchorage to a scenic overlook called balloon
Down by the waters where they spotted what appeared to be a body female female and at that point
We basically had to say. All right. Well, let's what do we do? Is it Bethenny?
The body is brought to Medical Examiner Frank Falco, but there's a problem that'll make his work extremely difficult
Somebody presumably the killer has mutilated. The body identifiers had been removed from the body
That is the head and hands were missing another torso washes up
Right, and that's another mystery that we have to deal with meanwhile detective Lynk heart is increasingly suspicious of Bethany's apartment manager Mike
Lawson it turns out he's an ex-con who once did time for rape in, Illinois
Remember Lawson says he never left his suburban home on the day Bethany disappeared
So Klink heart plays a hunch deciding to track Lawson cell phone calls
And the first thing I noticed the phone records was that there was a multiple calls from his cell phone to his house
Well, if you're home all day, why are you calling your house using electronic data and a map of cell towers in Anchorage?
He's able to show that Lawson made calls from Bethany's neighborhood that morning and his luck would have it
There's a cell phone tower just outside of Bethany's and Street Apartments. And that tower was the one being used meanwhile, dr
Falco uses x-ray technology and DNA to identify the first of those two torsos that washed up on the beach
It's not Bethany over at the crime lab analysts mark Halterman manages to recover just one partial
Fingerprint from the severely decomposed and dehydrated fingers of the second corpse
But it's enough see where the ridges are starting stopping and bifurcating. Those were the detail that we use to make a
Identification the second torso is also not Bethany but detective Klink heart is not surprised
He's been mapping those phone calls made by Mike Lawson on a cell phone and they're increasingly suspicious
His cell phone is going north out of Anchorage
He is out of town for 4 hours and 17 minutes of the day of her disappear on the day of her disappearance
He is going out of town
That's not somebody who's home all day a brain
In the case comes when franco Beza neighs a handyman who works in apartments managed by Lawson agrees to become a police mole
They hide microphones in his toolbox under his shirt even in his tool belt, but over three months of surveillance
Mike, lawson admits nothing. He kept the game up. He kept the game up
He covered his tracks so well, and it was very frustrating
But I kept going back to my own records and going she's somewhere north
I know it but I can't go out there and search it because it's too big
By now Bill and Linda Carrera are beginning to believe their daughter will never again see the lake behind their home
But detective Klink heart is increasingly determined to at least bring home her remains for her parents
For himself to make good for the loss of his sister
long ago the more I looked for Bethenny the more I realized that I had an opportunity to kind of make up for what I
Thought I had done or could have done or should have done and for his five-year-old son
Who understands only that his dad is searching for a lost girl and asks the same question every night at bedtime
He'd say hey Dad. Did you play Bethany today? And I kind of look at my girl
Nobody I didn't find her today
But I will
When we come back the witness steps forward
He says we saw the new body of Bethany started crying
But will it be enough to help Glenn clink heart binder as you can see now? You're hidden
Nobody can see what you're doing back here
Stay with us
21 year old Bethany Carrera has vanished but no body has been found
Bethany's apartment manager was the last person to have seen her Glen Klink heart suspects
He might be involved so far. He has little hard evidence, but that's about to change
The long days of an Alaskan summer eventually give way to the cold and
In the depths of winter eight months after Bethany Carrera disappeared
Detective Lynk heart gets the break. He's been working for Mike Lawson
Now the prime suspect is arrested with his brother Bob in an unrelated business fraud case up to now they've been inseparable
They basically were not gonna you know tell on each other
So we had to separate we physically separated him even in jail. Mike lost them admits
nothing
But his brother Bob is not expecting to be asked about the one thing that bothers him most they walked in with a book
With Bethany's picture on it and they set it down in front of Bob and they said but you know Bob there's another reason why
We're here and he talks and he talks and he and I talk a lot
He said that his brother called him that morning. His brother says I just shot someone and
He was totally freaking out his brother told him I need help bob
Lawson finds his brother in the building next door to Bethany's apartment. He saw the nude body of Bethany. I showed him a picture
I pushed the picture old and I said is this who you saw?
And he started crying
He said yeah is Bethany police believe Bethany was lured here by Mike Lawson thinking she'd be learning how to show apartments
Bob Lawson says when he arrived his brother was carrying a gun
He made the decision that he was gonna help his brother wrap up the body load the body into the car police
Say the two brothers returned that night
And set fire to the building to cover up the murder scene
Where did you go? He says he drove control. He says finally I couldn't take it anymore
I said we got him get rid of him. He simply stopped at this gravel pit and I said will you take us up there?
He said yeah, I will but it's the middle of winter in Alaska and a thick five foot blanket of snow covers the area
They funnel ain't nothing we had to wear snowshoes and we were troops through the snow and it was so deep
Detective Lynk heart can't be sure
He'll ever find the body and he needs more than one brothers testimony against the other
With Bob Lawson now free on bail. He agrees to let police record his phone calls from Mike who was still behind bars
From the Anchorage -
Bob tries to get his brother to talk about Bethany's murder. You said that was an accident
This whole thing going away Mike
Mike reminds him of a deal they made
Then he tests his brothers loyalty I
Swear I swear her mom's grave
Bob is convincing enough to get his brother to talk about Bethany's murder and ask him about a possible motive
So I'm just trying to figure out why there's no clothes
The bow tab suddenly gives clink hard something solid to back up his star witness bob lawson
And then just as suddenly a major setback had gotten a call
Saying that the last state troopers had found him and that he had committed suicide
Tortured by guilt over turning in his brother bob. Lawson kills himself
The case against mike lawson might have been lost right there
Were it not for detective clay cartes determination to find Bethany's remains to keep his promises to her
to his own son and
To himself over his long-lost sister Dawn my sister her birthday was May 3rd
Bethany died on May 3rd and 365 days later on May 3rd
I took a little moment to go down to M Street
And I stood there and it just took a moment to just kind of say, you know
Bethany it's time to come home that
Very morning detective clink our travels more than a hundred miles north of Anchorage toward Mount McKinley the date May 3rd
Just one year after
Bethany disappeared
The snow that covered this ground just three months earlier is now melting yielding crucial evidence
Finally confirming everyone's worst fears. He returns to the place where Bob Lawson says, they dumped the body near a gravel pit
129 miles north of Anchorage as you can see now you're hidden. Nobody can see what you're doing back here. I
