Let me preface this video with a couple of words
This is not a rant.
I am going to attempt to stay as neutral as possible on this issue.
I will give you all the information available, both official from Gaijin and from community
efforts, and let you form your own opinion.
For transparency, I will say that I am very much against this and have more than a few
stern words on the subject, but I will keep those to a written comment below the video.
After presenting all of the information, there will be a poll in the info card on the top
right corner, as well as a link to a community poll.
If you are already familiar with the topic, I ask you to pause this video now, write your
opinion in the comments, and after I present you with all of the information reply to your
own comment if and why your opinion has changed.
Without further ado, what are we talking about?
On the 5th of June 2018, Gaijin announced a new system to be introduced in patch 1.79,
called "Vehicle Modification Upgrades".
UPDATE: DUE TO COMMUNITY FEEDBACK, THIS SYSTEM WILL NOT BE INTRODUCED WITH PATCH 1.79.
THE FEATURE WILL HOWEVER BE RE-EVALUATED, AND FURTHER FEEDBACK IS REQUIRED.
This system consists of performance or function upgrades for certain researchable modifications
for aircraft and tanks, separate and in addition of the already existing research system.
In short, these are consumables which can be used to either temporarily or permanently
increase the functions and performance of your vehicle.
There are two consumables: The so called "Pre-battle Training" can be used on a modification
to increase its bonuses for one battle.
Each modification requires one "Pre-Battle Training", and the bonus expires after the
battle is over, consuming the tokens.
The second consumable is called "Modification Upgrade".
Like "Pre-Battle Training", it can be used at a rate of one token per modification,
but applies the bonuses permanently.
In addition, on some modifications it can unlock additional benefits, also permanently.
Thanks to the datamining efforts of mike10d on reddit, we know exactly which modifications
the consumables can be used on, and what their bonuses are.
To clarify, you would need to have these modifications already unlocked and bought before being able
to upgrade them.
For tanks, the upgradeable modifications are Parts, Fire Prevention Equipment and Crew
Replenishment.
Applying any upgrade to Parts increases repair speed by 10%
Applying temporary upgrade to FPE reduces the time needed to extinguish a fire by 50%.
A permanent upgrade additionally unlocks a 3rd charge of FPE.
Applying a temporary upgrade to Crew Replenishment reduces the time needed to revive a crew by
10%.
Additionally, a permanent upgrade allows to use crew replenishment twice in one match.
For aircraft, the upgradeable modifications are Cover, Airframe and Adjustment of Fire.
Applying any upgrade to Cover results in a 2.5% reduction to damage, a 0.3% reduction
of total mass, and a 0.15% reduction to drag coefficients.
Applying any upgrade to Airframe results in a roughly 4.8% lower chance of wings and tail
breaking, as well as a further 0.3% reduction of total mass.
Applying any upgrade to Adjustment of Fire results in a 10% reduction of bullet spread,
as well as a 10% increase in continuous firing time before overheating the guns.
So, in summary, applying all permanent upgrades to a tank results in your repairs being 10%
faster, fires extinguishing 50% faster, being able to survive three fires instead of the
usual two, reviving a crew 10% quicker and being able to revive one additional crew,
potentially also allowing you to survive an additional kill shot in arcade mode, where
crew replenishment is deployed automatically when a single crew member is left alive.
Applying all permanent upgrades to an aircraft results in a 2.5% reduction in overall damage,
a 0.6% reduction in weight which results in a better Climb Rate, Acceleration and Turn
Rate, a 4.8% lower chance of wings and tails breaking off due to damage which further increases
survivability, a 0.15% reduction in drag which results in a higher top speed and better energy
retention, a 10% increase in gun accuracy, and a 10% longer sustained burst.
There are two ways in which to obtain these consumables.
The source is through the Warbond shop.
Warbonds are a form of currency earned through the completion of tasks within the game.
The number of tasks you can accomplish per day is limited, and by completing certain
milestone amounts of tasks, you "upgrade" your shop level to access more items to redeem
your warbonds for for that month.
The Temporary "Pre-battle training" consumable can be redeemed at shop level 3, although
the price and the amount available is unknown.
The permanent Modification Upgrade is not directly available, instead being available
through another item called "Mechanic's Toolbox".
One of these Toolboxes can be bought at shop level 4, with an additional one at level 5.
You can either sell these Toolboxes on the market to other players for Gaijin Coins,
open them directly in exchange for 15 temporary upgrades each, or combine two to receive one
permanent upgrade, and 5 temporary upgrades.
You can not combine temporary upgrades to obtain a permanent one.
Given that there are currently 3 upgradeable modifications for each vehicle, and you can
only obtain one permanent upgrade per month through gameplay, it would take 3 months of
daily war bond task grinding to permanently fully upgrade a single vehicle.
Or, you can simply buy them on the market by exchanging real money for Gaijin Coins.
Given the very limited supply and likely very high demand for these upgrades, prices are
expected to be high.
And that is all the available information on this system.

Right about now there should also be popping up a interactive poll in the top right corner
of the screen, I'm very much interested to know if you're for or against its introduction
UPDATE: Future Mike here again, as you know from the intro, the update was cancelled after
a overwhelmingly negative response from the community.
The community poll is at 93% against with a total of over 1600 votes at the time of
writing this, and there were hundreds of comments on the news post itself, on the forums and
on reddit.
However, this is not the end.
Gaijin won't introduce this system at the launch of 1.79, but they will rework it, so
it is incredibly important that the community lets their feedback be heard.

Patch 1.79 brings a couple new Bf-110 variants, and one of them has a bit of a mental armament
that I'm excited for, and I believe you will be too.
