I always like to show

yeah it's definitely. I just say it's it's a foot and a half above above

the top of my head here so. The sunflowers actually bloomed before

Darren went into pre-k last year so we planted them about a week and a half

later two weeks later than the prior years so it probably got about a week or

so before they come out but it won't be long and I don't think that we're gonna

catch Frost quite yet but hopefully it gives them time to pollinate and then

create seeds so I do have some seeds left over from last year if if we don't

make it but what we do is we we keep the seeds and then we plant them next the

subsequent year so these are actually the grandchildren of the seeds that I

originally planted two years ago so anyways yeah Darren started kindergarten

today that was super easy everything went great and I got the kids some toys

since they've been so good lately I thought they deserved it and but

anyways that's it for this one and I'll see you guys in the next one all right

Seoul and Washington reaffirmed their pledge to work towards denuclearization and peace

on the Peninsula.

The nation's Defense Chief met with General Charles Brown Jr, the Commander of Pacific

Air Forces ,... and the newly appointed 7th Air Force Commander, Lieutenant General Kenneth

Wilsbach,.. who is in charge of the unit based in South Korea.

They agreed that military coordination is crucial for supporting the diplomatic efforts

to achieve denuclearization and peace.

For 14th straight year, Japan repeats false claim to S. Korea's Dokdo Island - Duration: 0:51.

Japan once again makes false claims to South Korea's Dokdo island.

The cabinet has adopted its annual defense white paper which states Tokyo has unresolved

territorial issues involving the what it calls "Northern Territories"... and Korea's easternmost

islets which it named Takeshima.

Japan has been making the misguided claim in such a manner since 2005.

Seoul's foreign and defense ministries strongly appealed against the statement and urged the

neighboring country to immediately correct the phrase and stop such distortions.

The foreign ministry also called in the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Japanese Embassy,

Koichi Mizushima, to lodge a formal complaint.

As for North Korea and its nuclear program, the white paper said Japan's view has not

changed despite the Pyongyang-Washington summit, that it still views the regime's military

moves as a threat to Tokyo and the international community.

Heavy rain expected in the central region _ 082818 - Duration: 2:02.

Hello I'm Michelle Park here with the latest weather update.

Currently, there are heavy rain alerts in the southern part of Gyeonggi-do, in Chungcheongbuk-do

and in northern Gyeongsangbuk-do Province.

They're getting more than 30 millimeters of rain an hour, accompanied by lightning.

Into the evening, the rain is expected to fall harder.

Until tomorrow, northern Gyeonggi-do and the northwest of Gangwon-do province will get

up to 150 millimeters of rain.

Less rain will fall as you move down south,... -- between 30 and 80 millimeters of rain in

the rest of the central region.

More heavy rain is expected to fall tomorrow in the central region as the rain clouds come

back down the peninsula.

The southern regions will stay gray with light showers from time to time,... and Pyongyang

and Tokyo are expected to be drenched as well.

Due to the rain, most parts of the country are having much cooler nights than a few weeks

ago, with lows mostly below 25 degrees Celsius.

The daytime high in Seoul will be cooler at 28 degrees, while Daegu is expected to remain

hot at 33 degrees.

The rain is expected to continue until Thursday for the capital and a few days longer for

the south.

Seoul plans to raise annual budget on inter-Korean economic cooperation by nearly 50% - Duration: 2:01.

The unification ministry also unveiled its budget plan for next year.

Less will be set aside for humanitrian aid, while spending for inter-Korean economic cooperation

is raised by almost 50 percent... reflecting the willingness to view Pyongyang as an economic

partner rather than an aid beneficiary.

Oh Jung-hee explains further.

South Korea plans to spend more next year on inter-Korean cooperation... in an effort

to boost exchanges with North Korea... as agreed at their historic summit in April.

On Tuesday, Seoul's unification ministry revealed its spending blueprint for 2019.

The budget for the Inter-Korean Cooperation Fund rose by 14 percent from this year,...

to stand at 1-point-1 trillion won, or roughly 1 billion U.S. dollars.

And among various categories within the fund, Seoul plans to give the biggest boost to economic

cooperation -- at over 46-percent.

Seoul will be putting more into grants and loans for economic projects,... mainly related

to railway and road connections... and forestation.

The numbers are subject to change as discussions continue with North Korea on these projects,...

but regardless, the government says the projects will be carried out in a way that does not

violate international sanctions... and in step with North Korea's denuclearization.

South Korea has also raised its budget for families separated by the Korean War... by

nearly threefold.

That... considering Seoul and Pyongyang could hold more family reunions next year and even

enable the families to visit their hometowns on the other side of the border.

Meanwhile, Seoul is cutting down on funds for humanitarian aid... and plans to reduce

its food assistance for North Korea to a third of the current figure.

South Korea says it now sees North Korea as an economic partner to work with... rather

than a subject to help.

Gov't lays out blueprint for 2019 national budget - Duration: 2:13.

National budget 2019 could see a near 10 percent on-year spike.

The government is hopeful the extra funds will help to kickstart the economy...

weighed down by high unemployment and a widening wealth gap.

Kim Ji-yeon breaks down the digits for us.

South Korea's Ministry of Economy and Finance said Tuesday that it wants to actively deal

with the country's structural issues and pursue expansionary fiscal measures to boost job

creation as well as future innovative growth.

It says government spending in 2019 will increase by nearly ten percent from this year to 424-point-2-billion

U.S. dollars.

That's the highest level since 2000, excluding 2009, when South Korea was struggling due

to the aftermath of the global financial crisis.

The ministry expects next year's gross income to amount to nearly 434-billion dollars,...

up by some eight percent from this year.

Despite pursuing expansionary measures... the ministry says it'll likely have a limited

impact on South Korea's fiscal balance and government debt due to improvements in the

country's tax revenue,... which the government tallied at nearly 15 billion dollars in June.

The lion's share of next year's budget -- around 146-point-three billion dollars -- is to be

injected into boosting the health, welfare and labor sectors,... while nearly 64 billion

is set aside for the education sector.

The ministry has also increased the amount of state research-and-development for future

core technologies as well as boosting the platform economy, an ecosystem which depends

on the internet, computation and data.

That's been raised to 18-point-4-billion dollars,... up more than a half-a-billion dollars from

this year.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy says it plans to increase its budget to around

seven billion dollars next year,... nearly twelve percent more than its budget for this

year.

This as the ministry is seeking to effectively deal with trade protectionist measures, convert

South Korea to safe and clean energy and strengthen investments for sectors related to innovative

growth.

The budget proposal is to be submitted to the National Assembly later this week for

approval.

Pres. Moon says he's not dropping any of his key economic growth initiatives - Duration: 2:28.

President Moon Jae-in plans to push ahead with his administrations' key economic initiatives.

While speaking to his aides, he appeared adamant on not abandoning any of the policy, while

highlighting the importance of lending an attentive ear to criticisms.

Shin Se-min has our top story.

The backdrop of the government's proposed 2019 budget -- President Moon Jae-in's reluctance

to drop any of the administrations' key growth initiatives.

Speaking to a roomful of his aides during a weekly Cabinet Meeting,...

President Moon stood firmly by the administration's three leading economic policies -- income-led

growth, innovative growth and the fair competition initiative, which he said should all move

forward as one package.

"The government's mission is to break away from the out-of-date paradigm that dragged

down the economy and to eventually leap forward into a new paradigm.

It is the government's mission to carry out economic policies with confidence."

President Moon said the new paradigm... is a people-centered economy.

Those remarks... come amid concerns of a possible economic slowdown combined with a recent eye-watering

jobs report... and numbers indicating that the income gap is getting wider.

Critics have blamed the income-led growth strategy for burdening small-and-mid-sized

businesses with this year's minimum wage hike of over 16 percent,... and another one next

year of over 10 percent.

To that, the President said the higher minimum wage is only part of many other plans to raise

household incomes, but explained that he is open to making improvements where the need

arises.

"Of course, we have to keep looking for more ways we can realize our economic policy, and

we have to acknowledge its shortcomings.

If there are any, we should be vigilant and devise measures to fix them."

"Despite the depressing economic indicators and harsh criticism of the policy,... the

President is adamant that his plan to revive the country's economy will soon boost the

income of workers and households and ultimately set the foundation for income-led growth.

Trump canceled Pompeo's fourth visit to Pyongyang due to uncooperative letter from.. - Duration: 2:06.

Speculation runs rampant on why President Donald Trump chose to pull Mike Pompeo back

from another visit to Pyongyang.

The Washington Post revealed an uncooperative letter from the hermit kingdom may have something

to do with that decision.

Lee Ji-won has the full story.

President Donald Trump's decision to call off his Secretary of State's fourth visit

to North Korea... seems to have been prompted by a letter from Pyongyang.

An opinion piece in the Washington Post Monday said the decision to cancel Pompeo's trip

came just hours after the Secretary received a "secret letter" last Friday from North Korea's

Vice Chairman of the Workers' Party's Central Committee, Kim Yong-chol.

The article cited two senior White House officials as saying the letter was belligerent enough

that President Trump and Secretary Pompeo were convinced the planned visit would not

be successful.

Trump tweeted that the trip was canceled because of a lack of progress on the denuclearization

of the Korean Peninsula.

The article in the Post said the letter was in response to the latest one from Trump,

in which he urged North Korea to take more concrete actions on denuclearization and warned

against backsliding.

While the officials declined to say how North Korea delivered the letter, the article said

that North Korea has been increasingly using its UN mission.

It also said Secretary Pompeo's fourth visit to Pyongyang, slated for this week, was to

negotiate a step-for-step deal.

The regime has been asking the U.S. to declare an end to the Korean War, while the Trump

administration has been asking Pyongyang for a declaration of its nuclear and missile programs

and assets.

But despite the historic North Korea-U.S. summit in June and the follow up meetings,

there has been no significant progress made on denuclearizing.

And Trump acknowledged the lack of progress in these talks for the first time in that

tweet.

The ball has now been tossed to North Korea, and many say the regime's next move could

result in even more sanctions if it doesn't satisfy President Trump.

Interest rates for household loans in Korea rose in July - Duration: 0:31.

Lending rates for new household loans rose last month, amid growing expectations of a

rate hike later this year.

According to the nation's central bank, the average interest rate on such loans hit three-point-seven-three

percent in July, up Point-Oh-one percentage point from a month earlier.

Standing out were rates for collective lending, or loans made by banks to a group of borrowers

who purchase homes in the same apartment complex.

It shot up Point-zero seven percent on-month, posting three-point-5-2 percent.

S. Korean gov't plans to spend more than $42 bil. on national defense in year 2019 - Duration: 2:01.

Staying with spending plans for next year.

A significant portion of the budget will be injected to the military.

It's marks this decade's biggest spike in the amount allocated for national defense.

Park Ji-won outlines what positive changes the funding will bring.

The Moon Jae-in administration has decided to allocate about 42 billion U.S. dollars

next year on the nation's defense budget.

It is a whopping eight-point-two percent increase from the previous year.

This marks the highest increase rate on the nation's defense budget since 2008,... and

almost the double of the average annual increase rate of four-point-four percent seen from

2010 to 2017.

The government expects to spend over 13 percent more than the previous year on developing

and improving defense capabilities,... such as the acquisition of state-of-the-art weaponry

like aircraft, and naval destroyers.

Included in this category are some four-point-five billion U.S. dollars the government expects

to spend on establishing its so-called "three-axis system,"...or the South's key three-part military

strategy system to counter any North Korean threats,... namely the Kill Chain pre-emptive

strike system, the Korean Air and Missile Defense system,... and the Korea Massive Punishment

and Retaliation strategy.

A defense ministry official told Arirang News that next year's budget for the establishment

of the three-axis system has also increased by more than 16-point-four percent, year-on-year.

The defense ministry explains that the increase on defense budget has been outlined to support

the Moon administration's defense reform initiative,... which aims to modernize and strengthen the

nation's military capabilities,... with active investment in the latest technologies.

The budget plan will be submitted to the National Assembly this Friday for parliamentary deliberation.

Gov't ban has significantly reduced use of plastic cups - Duration: 0:38.

About a month ago, the Korean government banned the use of disposable cups in coffee shops

and fast food restaurants.

And it appears the use of plastic items was drastically reduced.

A civic group named Korea Zero Waste Movement Network did on-site inspections of about a

thousand cafes and fast food chains last Wednesday and Thursday.

It said sixty percent of stores did not use plastic cups at all.

Before the government ban, that figure stood under thirty percent.

Plus, of all the cups used in the those establishments, eighty-one percent were non-plastic.

The group attributed the result to cooperation from consumers and the industry.

PM Lee calls for wider outlook on employment, looking past statistics - Duration: 0:34.

Meanwhile, Seoul's prime minister is urging the government to broaden its view on the

nation's employment crisis.

Referring to a recent report that showed South Korea recorded the fastest drop in working

age population last year,... Lee Nak-yon pointed out to officials,.... instead of focusing

on good or bad figures,... they should take into account the economic flow not shown in

the digits.

The PM added, employment to population ratio and the number of regular employees are on

the rise,.... as is income for wage earners.

However, he conceded that many small business owners as well as the shipbuilding and auto

sectors are struggling.

现实中的毛 舜筠，情 路坎坷， 曾经经历 三段婚姻 ，也曾拒 绝哥哥张 国荣的求 婚。

后来，张国 荣还在节 目中当面 对她说， "如果当 年你接受 我的求婚 ，可能会 改变我的 一生。"

毛舜筠17 岁出道， 长得清秀 可人，具 有相当高 的演戏天 分，还被 当作玉女 明星来栽 培。

当年才20 岁的张国 荣对她一 见钟情， 认识不久 就闪电求 婚，这可 吓坏了当 时才17 岁的毛舜 筠。

两人最后情 侣做不成 ，却成了 好朋友、 好兄妹， 后来还合 作过《家 有囍事》 等电影， 培养出极 佳默契。

2001年 ，张国荣 曾经在毛 舜筠主持 的清谈节 目中说， "如果当 年妳愿意 嫁给我 ， 我的一生 可能就此改变。"

张国荣说： "我们俩 当年一起 主持一档 音乐节目 ，记得是 在走廊里 初相遇， 我对她一 见钟情。

"毛舜筠也 笑说是她 当时不懂 得珍惜， 不过她的 家人都很 喜欢哥哥 。

张国荣在2 003年 选择跳楼 结束生命 。事隔1 0年，毛 舜筠曾在 访谈节目 中，谈 起 自己与哥 哥张国荣临终前的 对话，当时哥哥还说出了他的遗愿。

哥哥曾要求 毛舜筠说 ，"如果 我死了， 你要帮我 采用基督 仪式"。

当时哥哥的 一番话， 听得毛舜 筠心情凝 重。她觉 得不太对 劲，便提 出为他祷 告，可 惜 ，最后依 旧无法阻止悲剧的 发生。

她说张国荣 生前有畏 高，连搭 飞机都害 怕，但最 后却用了 最害怕的 方式来结 束自己 的 生命，" 他一定是痛苦得不 得了"。

事情发生那 天，毛舜 筠当下接 到记者的 电话时， 才说不到 几句话， 就哭了起 来。
