Hey my friend hi welcome Rusty Burnside here with you on another Champion Your
Mindset Champion Your life video what a great opportunity is for me to sit down
today and talk about confidence and building confidence and I don't know
about you but as a speaker trainer and a coach I see all the time
people that are trying to gain and grow in confidence and the problem is with
confidence we don't necessarily understand where it really comes from
and we don't necessarily understand why why it gets torn down from time to time
but think about the world right the world in general is pretty hard on our
confidence as individuals would you would you not agree with me that like
people around us even people that love us from time to time they cut our
confidence down and not that they mean to but they kind of put doubt in us and
they put doubt in us through the fact of they don't want us to get hurt they
don't want us to try something and not succeed at it so they encourage us not
to even go forward with it and then there's that person it's maybe really
encouraging for you and you have a great cheerleader that helps build up that
confidence so there's a big mix out there is what I'm saying in some days we
feel more comfortable who we are and some days we don't feel very confident
at all so today what I want to do is I want to give you a few simple tricks I
want to give you a few simple actions that we can do to help build our
confidence in our self-esteem where does that come from what does that look like
right so I'm going to tell you to start out with that it's kind of a joke about
introverts and extroverts being introverted or extroverted and the funny
thing about it is I had engineer is a great friend of mine and he said Rusty
says you know what the difference is between an introverted engineer and an
extroverted engineer so if you're an engineer I apologize I'm not trying to
pick on you by any means but I said no what is it and he says the difference
between them is he says an extroverted engineer will stare at your shoes and I
want you to think about that for a moment
where do we stare what is our body language tell us about who we are what
does that lie see we live in a world today and I know you're thinking right
now as all this is on those body language things right is it what does it
matter to me so I want you to think about it from um we live in a world
today that we're taking confidence away from people and how are we doing that
what most of us are spending the majority of our down time with our
shoulders over our heads down staring at a screen and we're scrolling through
things or we're taking this body language that takes confidence out of us
I want you to do a quick exercise with me real quick that wants you to just set
up straight and put your shoulders back and put them back to where it's
uncomfortable and for some of us it's not very far for some of us it might be
a little bit farther but what does that do for your body when you set up
straight and your shoulders are back and your chest is out a little bit what does
that do for you does it make you feel right now automatically for me it gives
me some life it gives me some energy and gives me a feeling of a little bit of
confidence that some of us might be uncomfortable whoa put my chest out
there and trying to be on top it's not about trying to be tough at all it's
about standing up straight for the first time in a long time maybe for some of us
because we spend the majority of our time not setting at our desk bent over
watching something slouching on a couch whatever it is that's where we spend a
lot of our time so we need that confidence we need to be able to put our
shoulders back and say yeah I'm ready I'm ready for the day I'm ready to take
something on and just the feeling within doing that is huge so one simple thing
take some time every day and remind yourself sit up fill it breathe fill
yourself breathe for the first time and how long right how long has it been
since you took a moment and just felt yourself breathe
because when we're hunched over we don't fill ourselves breathe when was the last time
you set up and inhale and exhale and felt your body for the first time in a
long time what's that feel like did that feel good feels good man it just feels
good to do that so my first tip today quit staring at the ground quit staring
over there sit up be bold it's okay to be you it's okay to feel
this way the second tip is to stare somebody in the eye and smile be able to
look somebody in the eye and smile and see we can't look somebody in the eye
with our head down and look up it's kind of impossible if we let those people in
the eye that we have the opportunity to meet or opportunity to talk with if we
can look them in the eye it spells confidence and it's not arrogance I'm
looking into a camera looking you in the eye and it's not about arrogance at all
it's about just being confident being excited about what it is that I have the
opportunity to do to be able to touch your life to be able to add value to you
and those around you and that's exciting that brings momentum that brings
confidence it brings a feeling of satisfaction and I know it's you setting
up and a smile on your face how long has it been since you've had a great smile
on your face what does that do for you just by putting a smile on your face and
saying you know what I'm okay I have my problems I have my issues I get it so
do I, I have plenty of them and if you've watched my videos you understand
that yeah Rusty you have plenty of problems sometimes I can't even put a
full sentence together I don't use big words I don't use anything fancy
sometimes I can't even find the words I need and I still speak and I still train
but I try to do it with shoulders back heads up
smile on my face from time to time excited about what it is and so the
third tip I'm going to give you and I know this is only a couple tips and I'm
gonna give you a third tip approach it with energy energy comes from within
energy comes from within feeling good about who we are energy comes from
accepting that we're not perfect but we're working on the process
right we're working through it we're trying to become better I'm a long way
from perfect in so many things so many things that I talk about I struggle with to
- the confidence thing I find myself getting smaller and smaller and smaller
by spending time on my laptops or spending time on my computers or
spending time on social media I find myself getting smaller and smaller
remind myself it's okay get up be big be bold it's alright now there's a
difference we can't get arrogant that's beyond the line but at the end of
the day feel good about who you are and that energy that you bring look at
somebody in the eyes and smiling at them and let them know you have a great day
it's important whoever it is that you approach maybe it's walking out of your
house in the morning when you walk out that front door in the morning to head
to work put your shoulders back put a smile on your face look up at the world
face the world I eye to eye and you'll be surprised how much more confidence you
have by doing these simple little things and what that will do for your energy
and how your day will go tell yourself you're gonna have that great day
tomorrow walk out that front door like you own the world and that you're going
there and when the first person at work notices that you're different and they
try to cut you down don't allow it smile energy strength be strong be who
you are be glad about who you are so today I know these are just simple
little things but I challenge you tomorrow that if you will wake and go
forward and bring this or if you're watching this right now and you have the
opportunity but those shoulders back put a smile on your face fill that energy
and take it with you I hope today I have put some confidence in you because I can
tell you from all your guys's desires and those people that are watching this
and the shares and the comments and the things that I get the feedback that I
get it builds confidence in me and I need that just as much as you need that
everybody needs to feel confident to be able to move and progress in this world
so I can tell you until we meet again remember we have to champion our mindset
