Small and Simple Things - Dallin H Oaks - Duration: 5:08.
By small and simple things, are great things brought to pass.
Consider the scripture study we've been taught to incorporate into our daily lives.
Or consider the personal prayers and the kneeling family prayers that are regular
practices for faithful Latter-day saints. Consider attendance at seminary for
youth or Institute classes for young adults. Though each of these practices
may seem to be small and simple, over time they result in powerful spiritual
uplift and growth. This occurs because each of
these small and simple things invites the companionship of the Holy Ghost.
Another source of spiritual uplift and growth is an ongoing practice of repenting,
even of seemingly small transgressions. Our own inspired self-evaluations
can help us see how we have fallen short and how we can do better.
Such repentance should precede our
weekly partaking of the sacrament.
"Have I done any good in the world today? Have I
helped anyone in need? Have I cheered up the sad and helped someone feel glad?
If not I have failed indeed. Has anyone's burden been lighter today
because I was willing to share? Have the sick and the weary been helped on their
way? When they needed my help was I there?" Surely these are small things, but surely
they are good examples of what Alma taught his son Helaman: "And the Lord God
doth work by means to bring about his great and eternal purposes; and by very
small means the Lord … bringeth about the salvation of many souls" (Alma 37:7).
Another seemingly small and simple thing is being civil and cheerful in our
personal interactions. None of these desirable small and simple
things will lift us to great things unless they are practiced consistently
and continuously. We are surrounded by media influences and cultural
deteriorations that will carry us downstream in our values if we are not
continually resisting. To move upstream toward our eternal goal, we must
constantly keep paddling. It helps if we're part of a team who are paddling
together, like a rowing crew in action. To extend that example even further, the
cultural currents are so strong that if we ever stop paddling, we will be carried
downstream toward a destination we do not seek, but which becomes inevitable, if
we do not constantly try to move forward.
Similarly even small acts of disobedience, or minor failures to follow
righteous practices, can draw us down toward an outcome we have been warned to
avoid. One thing is certain, the terrible consequences of partaking of anything
that can become addictive like drugs that attack our bodies, or pornographic
material that degrades our thoughts, is totally avoidable if we never partake
for the first time—even once. I believe we all desire to follow
President Russell M Nelson's challenge to press forward on the covenant path.
Our commitment to do so is strengthened by consistently following the small
things we are taught by the gospel of Jesus Christ and the leaders of His
church. I testify of Him and invoke His blessings on all who seek to keep on His
covenant path, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

I am honored by the trust of the entire University community and deeply grateful
to the Board of Trustees for its confidence in choosing me as the fourth
president. As each of the three previous presidents of DeSales University was
just the right person at just the right time, the University perhaps with a
little help from above has done it again. Jim is a wise leader. In his 10 years as
our provincial his gentle strength and strong gentleness have been a unifying
source of grace and stabilizing force for mission. In the relatively short time
that father Greenfield has been on campus, it is evident his love of the University
and that he has a vision for its future. When I first met you I thought you were
the right person for the job. My subsequent impressions have confirmed
this. My colleagues agree, we owe the DeSales community a heartfelt thank
you for bringing a leader of his quality and vision to the Lehigh Valley. We all
look forward to his focus and commitment and his becoming part of the A team that
will continue to drive the University to new heights. Ladies and gentlemen, I
present to you the fourth president of DeSales University, Reverend Jim
Greenfield.
Assuming this new ministry I feel at home and I'm thrilled to be back in
Center Valley. Launched as a 21 year old into the world from this place, I now
return to it at the youthful age of 56 for this University's blast off into its
next 50 years. It is only fitting that a place that started out as green fields
will continue to grow and prosper under the leadership of Father Greenfield.
DeSales is a very special place where things are not only happening today but
also in the future. Conducting informal listening sessions, with ice cream,
attending the Eagles pep rally on the turf field, even though he wouldn't paint
his face green and emceeing the Special Olympics event in Allentown, making time
to meet all the volunteers are just a few prime examples of your tremendous
zeal and passion for your title and vocation. Jim, on behalf of
your presidential colleagues in over 270
Catholic institutions of higher education we welcome you to this unique
ministry. I say this again directly to all of our students, the education you
receive here at DeSales University provides you with an extraordinary
opportunity to reimagine the right road to take into your future equipped with
the Silesian art of dialogue and understanding of the universe you can be
the change our world needs at this present moment. My prayer for all of us
is that we never forget we are held in such a divine embrace and we never never
ever let go of the ultimate beauty who is God the master craftsman in whose

Hey it's Abbi J your life coach and today on AJ Life Hacks we are talking
all about how to create your own luck. I know that you probably know so many
people that are just so lucky and we all have somebody in our life that we're
like oh they're always the one that wins the contest they're always the one
that's just so lucky life seems to really favor them well I'm here to tell
you that luck is something you can create and here are the top 3 tips for
how to do so and be sure to say to the end because I have an amazing offer that

first tip with creating your own luck is to actually go for opportunities now.
There are so many people that just don't take opportunities that are given to
them and it can be anything from they didn't put their name in the fishbowl to
get drawn out to they just don't go through the great jobs or they just
don't go for great opportunities and 10 they already did found themselves they
are these guys I am never lucky. I never get that. I
never win. I'm not going to try. Well hello!
Obviously you're never going to win if you don't what you name it what a thing
that my parents told me so one was always vote for yourself
and I actually did a whole video on it it was one of my very first ever because
you have to believe in yourself and you have to actually go for these
opportunities that are out there for you to take so get out there and start
putting your name and all those drawings start actually doing those receipt but I
say that you could win the credit card if you want it but like put yourself out
there start taking these opportunities because as lucky as you might be if you
never go for something you never have a shot. So that is my first tip for you and
my second tip for you is to be prepared. Opportunity, luck, life they all
favorite and prepared persons and I know that you've heard that before but is so
true some we think somebody's lucky when actually
there just appears as a look like it was no big deal and they were able to do
something seamlessly or without any effort
well in reality it took a tone of effort and it took them putting forth their best foot and just
going for these opportunities and being prepared for them as well so that's a
huge part of luck is that no matter what you're going for you're actually
prepared for it and that could be that you put in the groundwork before this
opportunity or even that you're prepared if you were to win this opportunity or
to have something awesome and amazing happen you.
you could easily step into that new role, because you are prepared and ready to go
believe in yourself. There's nothing more then when people like purposely rate
themselves super low or say you know what I'm just like not very good and I'm
not gonna like try because somebody else always win no just cut out right now
because you have to believe in yourself there are two types of people in the
world there are the people who go into you and those that don't and you'll
notice that the movers and shakers of this world believe in themselves they
believe in what they're doing and even if that's like you believe that you
actually can win that belief is fundamental and it goes with you know
going through the odds these opportunities and that confidence that
comes from being prepared it all just bundles together to this awesome
charismatic confident array that you believe in yourself and I know that
sounds a little hokey pokey but when you you couple that belief with actual
action of being prepared and actually going for it and putting forth the
effort to get these opportunities there is nothing that can stop me so there you
have it those are my top three tips for how to be more and how to bring some in
your life try it out I think but so be sure to give this video a nice
