[ INTRO ]

Okay, let's be honest: Sometimes, sneezing is not that convenient.

I get that it clears dust and irritants out of your nose,

but if you're sitting in the middle of a silent lecture hall or a movie or a wedding,

you don't really want to be that guy making a bunch of noise.

And even though closing your mouth and pinching your nose shut is an option,

it also forces all that pressure inside your head, which could cause tissue damage.

One common idea is that holding a finger under your nose can stop a sneeze.

And if you do it right, it actually seems to work most of the time.

It's all thanks to some specific nerves in your face.

You get the urge to sneeze when something irritates the membranes in your nose or throat.

Those irritants stimulate one of the major nerves in your face, called the trigeminal

nerve,

which runs all throughout your forehead, nose area, and jaw, and has different branches.

Specifically, the part in your nose is called the maxillary nerve.

And when it's triggered, it sends a signal to your brain that ultimately results in a

sneeze.

Now, if you just hold a finger under your nose when that urge strikes, it probably won't

do much.

What you really have to do is press on your upper lip,

a gesture that looks almost identical but actually sends a different signal to your

brain.

Because the maxillary nerve also goes into your upper lip.

When we talked to Dr. Melissa Pynonnen at the University of Michigan,

she suggested that stimulating your maxillary nerve like this might interrupt the sneeze

response.

Essentially, it distracts your brain.

She said it's kind of like how, when you bump your knee on a coffee table,

your first instinct is to rub it to make it feel better.

You're unintentionally trying to distract the nerves in your knee with another, competing

signal.

So pressing a finger on your upper lip probably won't stop every sneeze,

but it might prevent a few of them.

Now, if you need something a little more subtle than holding your finger under your nose,

you can also try pressing your tongue against the roof of your mouth.

Your maxillary nerve passes through there, too, so it could cause the same distracting

response.

It is worth noting that there aren't really scientific experiments that have tested this,

but based on the anatomy of your face, there are reasons it should work.

And you probably won't look too silly trying it out.

Thanks for asking, and special thanks to Dr. Melissa Pynonnen for your time and insights!

I've been invited to Victron Energy HQ! - 61 - Duration: 6:12.

{Music}

I will explain in a moment why I am in Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.

Hello, thanks very much for watching. This is a canal but I'm not

in the British Isles. I'm in the Netherlands and more importantly I am in

the city of Almere, which is the home of Victron headquarters.

After seeing a load of my videos on batteries and MultiPlus

and battery monitors and things, they got in contact, they flew me out here

today. I've had a really nice lunch with the managing director of Victron and

his dad, the founder and I'm really pleased to say, I am working for Victron.

I'm going to be doing a series of videos for them, helping them with a new

communications platform. I will be carrying on doing Journey with Jono

don't you worry but whilst I'm here, I thought I might as well nose around

their headquarters! So lets go and have a look.

As you know I have many Victron items on my narrowboat and heavily rely upon

them to provide my day-to-day power. The company has around 90 staff and that

includes 35 research and development engineers, with some of them based here.

They're currently working on a brand new Phoenix Inverter Smart which will be

formally announced to the public in November. It's in a new slimline box and

you can see all of its settings on your mobile, using Bluetooth. Being an off-grid

company they of course have a large solar array on their roof and 24x 2 volt

batteries to store the energy. They use the power for their buildings general

needs as well as Cindy here, who monitors how the distributor's orders around the

world are being dealt with. As I have my system connected to the Internet,

one of the engineers here was able to log in to Alice and not only see the

equipment I'm using and how the system is currently running, but also diagnose

issues if needed and all remotely from this office. I'm really pleased to report,

everything is fine with my setup whilst I'm away. If anything should go wrong

with Victrons equipment it will usually end up here, in the service area.

A handful of engineers will diagnose the problem and not only fix it but liaised

with the R&D department upstairs to ensure future kit doesn't suffer the same fault.

Then it was time to corner the boss and ask him some questions

about the future of Victron.

In the immediate future we need to make things

simpler. So by next year I hope that lots of things you now do with VEConfigure

and VEFlash are done with Victron Connect and that will take, that will make

it a lot easier to work with our equipment. Both for installers

and for ourselves too to help people. [Jono] Will there be any intelligent things

coming in? Yes, yes we're keen especially on VRM to do

more monitoring of what's the expected solar yield versus the yield that's

coming out of the system, which on a, in a battery based system is not that easy.

The solar production depends on the load. If there's no load in your boat, the

production will also be lower so that requires some intelligence. [Jono] A couple of

viewers have asked me to ask you, what colour I should paint Alice. Yeah Alice

your boat. Yeah well our boat is white and has a blue Victron is written on it

in blue. I don't know if I'd get another boat, I'd do white. Dark blue. On a sailing

boat I like dark blue, that's nice and get a sailing boat, a boat sailing [Jono] A proper boat?

Yes with sails!

And now I'm back on the lovely Ashby Canal. I've come up this far because I'm

quite close by to the carpenter, one of my viewers that has offered to help

me with inside Alice. I've got another friend that has come up from London

he's a viewer that has decided to buy a narrowboat. His name is Steve he's helping

me with inside the boat and he's got a Rottweiler, Millie. Now Molly and Millie

get on like a house on fire, really, really well. Really pleased to see and

earlier on in the summer, when he came up Molly taught Millie how to swim in

the in the cut which was good. So I'll stay on the Ashby Canal for a little bit

longer and crack on with some of these jobs. It was really, really great going to

to the Netherlands and now it's time to do lots of videos for them, up my game

again with Journey with Jono and get Alice sorted, including painting her. So I've

got all loads and loads of stuff to come. So thanks very much for watching and I

will see you very soon.

Illegal Immigrants Just Got $1Mil Behind Trump's Back And Guess Who's Paying For It… - Duration: 7:24.

If those of you on the left still can not seem to understand why we on the right want

a strong and secure border, here is one of the hundreds of reasons.

Fox News is now reporting that the city council of the extreme left-wing city of Portland

just approved a $500,000 grant for potential deportees' legal services.

And as if this was not enough Multnomah County is matching that amount.

Here is more on this insanity via Fox 12: "This week Portland City Council approved

a $500,000 dollar grant to Catholic Charities of Oregon and Multnomah County is matching

that amount.

It's funding that will go toward paying for attorneys and legal services for potential

deportees.

Margaux Weeke, a communications specialist in the Office of Commissioner Chloe Eudaly

told FOX 12 Friday the funding which is being called the "Universal Representation Project"

will be for immigrants who may not be able to afford an attorney during legal proceedings.

It's services that Jordan Cunnings, a staff attorney at Innovation Law Lab, said are crucial

in winning cases.

"For many people it's sort of the most frightening most monumental experience they

are going to have in their life and there's just an incredibly limited number of resources

for folks who can not afford attorneys," Cunnings said.

Innovation Law Lab is an immigrant-rights organization in Portland.

Cunnings said the organization will have a direct hand in the implementation of the program.

"Innovation Law Lab in collaboration with a group of legal service providers and community

organizations has been brainstorming and dreaming about universal rep for over a year and meeting

to sort of plan and making the funding ask and we are going to be serving as sort of

the strategy point and the hub for coordination of the program," she said.

"We are going to be the tactical center for the direct service attorneys so we are

going to be representing people in removal proceedings in the Portland immigration court

and providing case support and strategy with a goal of winning every case."

Cunnings said about half of the thousands of Oregonians who are in removal proceedings

in court currently have no representation.

"Immigration court is one of the only court proceedings where the government always has

a lawyer at their table and the respondent often does not have a lawyer at the table,"

Cunnings said.

"The stakes are also incredibly high so you are basically stacking the deck against

people by having them in what's often a life or death situation for them in the case

that they are fighting."

But with that funding Cunnings told FOX 12 immigrants will have a voice and a chance

to stay in the U.S.

"Whether or not you have a lawyer in immigration court is ultimately the most determinant factor

in whether or not you win your case," Cunnings said.

"It's a very emotional experience and we are just really thrilled to now have the

opportunity to sort of step in and support people who are at risk of removal here in

Oregon

The city said this a pilot program and after a year the council will evaluate its success.

The $500,000 dollars from the city is general fund dollars and every tax payer FOX 12 polled

Friday night said they are in favor of the program."

City officials are saying that the funding that's being coined as the "Universal

Representation Project" is for Illegal Aliens to use who may not be able to afford attorneys

during their legal proceedings.

The money is said to be going to Catholic Charities of Oregon which will, in turn, use

the funds to pay for legal counsel for illegal aliens.

What's probably even more asinine about this whole plan is the fact that the $500k

is coming out of Portland's general fund.

A fund that's there to pay for police, fire and parks operations.

The reason they do this is because they know very well people would never vote to give

money to illegals aliens but they will vote to fund police and fire the moment they have

no money and start the typical scare tactics about not having enough police or firefighters

around in case of an emergency.

All this is just one more attack on President Trump.

The left is in the middle of one of its typical tantrums and they will enact anything they

can to spite him and go against his policies which are proving to be very good for the

United States.

This is just funny and sad at the same time to watch, it's like the left have turned

into perpetual troubled teenagers rebelling against their parents.

This tactic might have worked before, but today the right is smarter and knows the drill,

so the left will just keep losing.

All we on the right can do is pull up a chair, sit and enjoy the show, and of course go out

and vote

in the midterms.
