Hi everyone my name is Ben Sondgeroth
and I am Avra Robinson, and we are both
instructors with EdTechTeacher.
So this summer we're both going to be leading
the elementary G Suite Google Classroom
workshop. I'm going to be leading at June
19 to the 21st in Menlo Park, California
and Avra's going to be leading it June
22nd and 23rd in Chicago.
We are super excited about this workshop. I was an
elementary school teacher for most of my
career, and Ben and I both work with
hundreds of elementary school teachers
across the country who are doing awesome
things with G Suite in their
classrooms. Through our work with them
we've seen so many cool ways to engage
students with Google tools.
Yeah so I've seen a lot of neat things, Avra, but what
is...and I've got a ton of ideas that I
want to do the summer... but what's the one
thing you're really looking forward to
working with teachers on this summer?
Oh....that's a good question...the list is long
you know I'm thinking that I really just
love how Google tools provide such an
opportunity for kids to collaborate! I
know i'm looking forward to sharing
ideas about like collaborative
note-taking in Google Slides, as well as
just other ways for students to
collaborate and work together. And you
know speaking of Google Slides, it's
becoming one of my favorite tools, and
beyond presentations, I wanted to show a
lot of different ways that we can use it.
What about you? Yeah, same thing... Google
Slides is going to be a huge piece of it, so we
can help expand those walls but the one
thing I want to look at is how we can
teach teachers how to publish their
student work. Parents are always looking
for ways to view their child's work, and
with technology sometimes that gets shut
down. So i want to show teachers the ways
that they can create awesome archives
from both digital work and paper and pen
work. So we're going to see how we can
leverage the G Suite into making that
happen. You know that's so true...so our
K through 2 teachers out
there...don't feel like everything is
going to have to be created on a
Chromebook for example. We're going to
show ways that, like Ben said, taking that
paper and pencil work and just using
technology to kind of Chronicle it. I
know as a parent of a kindergartner, I
love being able to see what's happening
in his classroom, and with Google with G
Suite...it is so easy, and you can make it
as public or as private as you want it
to be.
So we'll definitely I will definitely be
sharing ways that we can share student
work outside those classroom walls, too!
Yeah this workshop is going to be
awesome I can't wait to dive into ways
the G Suite can be used with our
littlest learners. I think that we're
both taking the mindset in this workshop
that our "Littles" CAN do Google! That "Littles
CAN too!" So we're going to really look at
ways that we can make our littlest
learners leverage Google in the
classroom. Absolutely, Ben, you read my
mind! I was a kindergarten teacher myself
and so I know that looking at things do
the kindergarten/first grade lens is a
completely different world, but K through
5, we're going to show ways that you can
make it work for all of your students...
all the tips and tricks necessary to
build their skills and scaffold their
success! Awesome so there's only
one thing left for people to do and
that's register to come hang out with
Avra or I. Either me in California for three
days: June 19 through 21st, or with Avra
for two days in Chicago June 22nd and
23rd. We can't wait to see you guys there!
Hey listen...if you have any specific
questions about the workshop, feel free
to email Ben or me! AVRA at edtech
