Youtube daily report Mar 21 2017

This is a super cool place

I don't know how or when but you order from here

- What's chawamisu?

- chawanmushi! I don't know

I'll ask the girls next to me

Go!

Talking with people...

So you order and your food travels and stops in front of you

This is so cool! And this is for when the food comes

but looks like an angry man

Picking up girls... not wasting any chance

All good?

You can change it to English

I'll order ... the ones I like

Is it for me? for me? for me? for me? for me?

YES!!!

Now you press the angry man button... yay!

and it leaves....byyyeee

Kabuki is a traditional Japanese theatre

my underwear is showing

and they speak some old Japanese so it's difficult to understand

even for Japanese people

All characters are performed by men, even female characters

even female characters who cross-dress

and it's quite interesting - make-up, clothes,...

and every now and then, random people in the audience shout things that we can't understand

But it's very very very slow

and difficult to understand even for Japanese people

Those are my friends, they had to wait for us for 40 minutes

and they just smiled at us but actually they were thinking 'fuck off'

You can rent this thingy, it's cheap

and it displays the dialogue translated to English

like this for 1h and a half

Did you understand anything? xD

Shall I just say daijoubu (alright)?

Tesla Model X, 3, S spare parts shortage supply chain tight damaged cars - Duration: 6:53.

this is greg this post focuses on

an issue that popping up for Tesla and I

somewhat wanted to call this forty five

hundred dollar door so what that concept

was is about five years ago or so

there's an article about the fact that

Toyota had run into a problem which was

there weren't enough cars that were

being sent to the crusher or to be

destroyed so as a result any time there

was an accident with the Toyota there is

no way for the insurance repair people

to get doors for the rear of the car

this is for the camera so what happened

was there's a number of people in

particular in Queens in New York City

who started having the rear doors of

their cameras would disappear and so the

reflection of the fact that the car was

well built and isn't being destroyed by

owners who are getting a long life out

of their car so why is it relevant to

Tesla well there's an interesting

problem going on the Tesla that somewhat

mirrors what's going on with Toyota and

the Camry and that is the fact that Tess

is a fairly new vehicle so when there

are accidents with their and the cars

totaled those car parts can be sold for

those that might need the other parts

were repairs what's actually happening

right now is that Tesla is desperate to

make himself every par they can because

it shows Wall Street the company is

doing well the problem we're having is

that because their supplies of

everything including cars is so small

they now are in a position where if

somebody's cars damaged in some type of

accidents getting parts for those

vehicles is really difficult because the

company has to make the call between

taking apart from a vehicle

that's almost built or or filling that

vehicle and creating very long delays

before those two have vehicles that need

parts independent so the Tesla nightmare

i think is real and it's definitely

going to be a problem with the model 3

as well which is if you have an accident

or some other damage the problem is

informed to be the repair shop they want

to make money so they want to fix it and

give it back to yourself as possible the

problem is that there's extensive

problem with Tesla providing spare parts

of every type to repair damage to

vehicles so do not be surprised if you

end up having to wait three to six

months if your car sustained significant

damage during an accident and that delay

could even be longer because as we get

into the model 3 production there can be

further challenges you know with how

tight the production schedule is this

also suggested if you currently have an

S or an office I would be careful with

that vehicle and not take a lot of big

chances with it because repairing those

damages are nothing like for regular

vehicle I would also suggest that you

know you might want to keep an eye on

what's going on with the junk parts one

of the craziest thing you'll notice is

if you pick a piece of your car be at

the hood or the trunk cover or anything

like that and go up on ebay one of the

strings is things you'll find is that

your card going to be worth three or

four times its current values in parts

than it is as a complete car so if you

wanted to make a killing on your bizzle

you could be a radically take parts off

and have them shipped around the world

at very high markup because of how short

the park supplies are currently frankly

most enterprising of you might even

consider this is it as a regular

business item sir you know look at you

know pushing mouth to give your fuck of

a vehicle back to its carts because the

shortages are currently so severe and I

think it's going to stay that way for at

least the next two or three years you

know the final note that I would make is

that I would encourage you to find ways

to sort of prevent damage to your

vehicle so for one example the Model X

has the option of having a rear liftgate

if you are towing a vehicle I believe

it's possible to have this attached to

the model s as well what's nice about it

is there's actually a rubber plug that

one can insert into where the list would

go and that plug will allow if you get

hit from the rear the car will actually

absorb you know the hip and not transfer

the damage to your body or the car so

you have lucky damage that might come

from it having that is also kind of nice

because what you'll find is in parking

situations it make it difficult for

people to get right on your bumper if

there parking close to you from the rear

so that that might also be something to

consider so I wanted this whole post

really focused on the fact is there's a

supply chain challenge for Tesla and

that is that all the cars and car parts

are spoken for if your vehicle is

damaged in some way don't be surprised

if May when I set up insurance to give

you extended time because there's no way

if you have heavy damage it is going to

be a 20 30 day repair as you would find

with regular vehicles much more like a

six-month delay in repair and it could

even be longer especially because so

much attention of a company will be

focused on

the model 3 and getting it to market and

not on the needs of those that have had

accidents best of luck please lights and

look for our next conversation

11 Unusual NYC Sights - Duration: 6:52.

NYC is a haven for the quirky, the unique, and the wonderful. These are sites we could

pass by every day and not even notice. But sometimes it just takes a moment to look up,

look down, and around, and see the beauty hidden in plain sight.

Times Square Subway Station Spanning the Times Square Subway station passageway

between 7th and 8th avenue are these dire signs. 'Why Bother?' 'Why the Pain?'

I would pass these constantly and I wondered why are these suicide-encouraging words up

here? It turns out that this is an art installation

that was installed in 1991. Each line of the 18-word poem "Commuter's Lament or A Close

Shave" are up on the ceiling beams for all to see, become confused by, or be discouraged

by. Apparently, it was meant to be a tongue-in-cheek poem which hits a little too close to home

for some people.

Sticking with Times Square, there is a pedestrian

triangle on Broadway between 45th and 46th streets. Stand on the grates and you'll

hear this eerie, almost extra terrestrial humming. This is another art installation

and it was created by Max Neuhaus in 1977.

Here's a tip, check out the Midnight Moment which happens around 11:57 pm where

the area transforms into a digital art installation for a few minutes every night.

People who pass by the New York Public Library's

Stephen A. Schwarzman Building have all seen the infamous lions named, "Patience" and

"Fortitude" guarding its doors, but have you noticed the decapitated head?

In the row of statues above the main entrance there is a woman holding a head. She is the

personification of 'Drama'. The other statues embody History, Romance, Religion,

Poetry, and Philosophy, and they were created by Paul Wayland Bartlett.

Right by the library is the street called

'Library Way' located on East 41st Street between Fifth Avenue and Park Avenue. Along

the length of the sidewalk you will find bronze plaques with quotes from literature and poetry.

6 ½ Avenue Located between 6th and 7th Ave and running

between West 57th St and West 51st St is a relatively unknown path. It is open to the

public and you can use it if you want to avoid walking around to 6th or 7th avenues.

Nikola Tesla Street Corner Before his death, Nikola Tesla liked to spend

his time with the pigeons in Bryant Park. The corner of 40th street and the Avenue of

the Americas (or Sixth Avenue) was named the Nikola Tesla Corner in 1994.

Sex, Class, Race, Money Whimsical Bronze Statues I wasn't sure what to call these statues,

but those are some of the themes they seem to tackle. I have spotted these statues all

over from the 14th street subway station to Nelson A. Rockefeller Jr. Park at Battery

Park City, and other places. Tom Otterness is the artist and all his works tackle serious

subjects. The 14th st. / 8th avenue station depicts workers, class, and corruption.

Barthman's Sidewalk Clock At 176 Broadway, on the corner of Broadway

and Maiden Lane, is William Barthman Jeweler. In 1896 he created and installed a clock in

the sidewalk to garner attention for his store. It was replaced by a new clock with a more

traditional analog dial.

Secret City Hall Train Station This cathedral like station was boarded up

in 1945. The city was considering turning the station into a museum, but safety concerns

scrapped that idea. How can you get a glimpse of it?

Stay on the 6 train until Brooklyn Bridge, the last stop, but don't get off! The train

makes a turnaround through City Hall station as it starts its return trip uptown.

Sidewalk Subway Map On Greene street between Prince street and

Spring street, is the NY subway map etched into the ground. With all the changes to the

subway system, I doubt it gets updated. But maybe that's a good thing. We have a sign

of history here.

There is a fishing line that stretches about

18 miles along utility poles around the city. The line marks an invisible enclosure that

symbolically turns a public space into a private one so that Orthodox Jews can carry things

during Jewish Sabbath. The upkeep cost is about $100,000 a year and it is divided among

Orthodox synagogues.

There you have it! 11 wonderful and unique sights in NYC. Why not do a scavenger hunt

and find all of them?

Do you have more wonderful sites hidden in plain sight? Please comment below!

Thanks for watching! Please like, share, and subscribe. Have a great day and I'll see

you next time!

The Judge

Hi, I'm Hug'!

Yo, I'm Marc!

Do you know why we're here?

Of course, we're accused of the murder of...

Shush!

Just because we're suspects does not mean we have to say everything!

But, we didn't say anything to the cops...

I hope so! Anyways, nothing happened in the first place.

But apparently an ordinary citizen has decided to redo a trial!

Ah, well a chance we're innocent then...

Well, it kinda is our fault...

Shut up! The cops said it was an accidental drowning!

Really? They don't even suspect that he's been strangled?

Don't worry guys, nobody will ever know anything!

And a citizen can't make justice,

only judges can do that.

You know, I think you and your companions kind of lack something...

here.

Because...

the way I see it,

when the State is incapable of exerting justice,

it is the duty of every citizen to remedy to that.

You see, I believe in popular justice.

It is everyone's task to make justice,

instead of trusting a system where...

hummm...

only those who have a lot of money can make it.

Think about it...

We live in a hypocrital and unfair world.

Our systems of justice are only ways of making money,

and are so complicated and expansive that most people don't even try to make use of them.

Hence, it is ordinary people's duty to...

judge...

impartially...

and to make sure that a fair sentence is exerted.

And that's exactly what I'm going to do

for you, Marc.

Exert a fair sentence,

based on what you and your companions have done.

No need to continue.

Let's get back to our story, rather.

You were starting to talk about...

Daniel's death?

One time, at my place, I was getting ready to go out and...

Daniel had gotten in without making any noise.

You motherfucker!

He scared the shit out of me...

Afterwards, each time I saw a clown, I jumped.

All this, that was before...

before his brother's accident.

Tell me what happened that evening.

That evening, I...

I killed Marc.

CHANSONS QUI PARLENT D'AMOUR ENTRE DEUX FILLES [fr/eng sub] - Duration: 10:17.

Hi Youtube! Hey! My voice was voice high, wI'm going to start again ... Hi Youtube!

It's been a few months we started this Youtube channel and we really wanted to

thank you for all the positive feedback you had given us. We weren't expected

that at all and we thought we should do something to thank you

in return since we know that you love our mugs. We've decided to organize

a contest for you to win them. We've decided to do the contest on instagram

so go take a look to see the rules and the deadline for this contest.

If you don't have instagram, what are you doing with your life? seriously what

are you doing with your life? if I had to rank instagram

in my life, it would be like chocolate / instagram. Really? Yes ... Kristen Stewart / Instagram.

Ah yes? you / Instagram. Instagram is also a way to find a new girlfriend. It's very

useful so go there! In today's video, it is precisely on instagram we got the idea.

One of our subscribers left a comment on one of our photos

and asked if we knew any music, songs about lesbian stories

and so we started asking ourselves and yeah we don't know many songs ...

Well most of the songs is obviously for straight love and I had a little trouble

finding songs that were really about two girls. That's

why today we decided to talk about songs we know.

You can also write in the comments other songs, other groups

you love that just talk about love in the LGBT Q +++++ ... We've decided to mix a little

, there is music in English and French. Yes because we speak

many languages. Yes. The artist who comes immediately to mind when you think

about LGBT music and specifically love between women is Hailey Kiyoko.

I do not know if you know. she makes absolutely beautiful videos

about love between two women and most of the time it's teenagers.

It's beautiful, the music is beautiful and all. I didn't know her as an artist

but t's really the video "Girls like Girls" which exploded last year and it is very

beautiful, it's like a movie, like a short film and that's her who directed

the video I think. She is an artist who is quite interesting. Many of her songs,

of her music is a story two girls, it's really interesting

if t's not the kind of music you like then these video are very

beautiful. Yes but the style of music is good I really like. First time

I listened to this song I was not convinced but more I listen to it more

I like it. I liked right away. We'll put all the link

down in the description box anyway so if you want to take a look

, click on the link. For Ruby Rose fans, she recently participated

to the clip "On your side" from The Veronicas in fact, her girlfriend is part of this band

So here's it's a bit the same genre, The video is centered on her and the singer from

the Veronicas. For allRuby Rose fans, you will love this but to me

I have a little problem with the clip it really hyper sexualized, it's lesbians

who hate men. A man cannot talk to her girlfriend without Ruby

kicking his face ... it's a little too much but obviously

Ruby Rose is absolutely beautiful in this So just for the eyes, it's very beautiful

The most famous lesbian group I think is Tegan and Sara, I think all

the lesbians know this group. I've never been a big fan, I never really

listened, I have some songs in my computer. It's like indie / rock / pop

Sounds like The Veronicas actually ... yes Tegan and Sara are the lesbian reference.

For something a little more indie, I discovered

this artist by making looking around to see what was going

on in terms of music with lesbians love stories and I found

this artist called Dodie. She made a music called Sick of losing

your soulmate and the style a little bit indie, it's really cute and

I know I really enjoyed it So the link is down in the description box,

go take a look and tell me what you think. So I don't know if you know

the YouTube Shannon, nowthisisliving. Recently she participated in a video for her

girlfriend Fletcher, Carie Fletcher and it's called Wasted Youth and it's really

a good song, I really liked the video. It's two girls who live some

teenage experiences together and it was ... it made me think

of when I was younger and it was very well done so well done ... bravo shannon's girlfriend

Congratulations on your new girlfriend. She's beautiful isn't she? Yes really! We are now crossing the

the French border with the group superbus which was quite popular

a few years ago they have a song called Allo Lola. The song is about

a girl who is in love with another girl. I loved this song,

it has rhythm and stuff and we give it to you because

I love it so much. There is a Spanish group called Mecano ... Why are you laughing?

the song is in French! But the real song is in Spanish, yes but the song

is also in French. Ok but it's a Spanish group.

Medano wrote a song in French called a woman with a woman and I think

it is a classic in its genre. Everyone knows it. I think

It really is a beautiful song and we talked about this song because

it is special. This is not one of the girls who tells her own story.

It's a story told from an outside perspective with a couple she sees and it's quite interesting.

Yes it's beautiful. It is very beautiful! and you also have the song in Spanish if you want. Yes

but you don't want that . Of course you want. Another song that I still wanted to

put here but that is not necessarily specific to a lesbian love story is Macklemore:

Same Love. Because I think that song is absolutely beautiful, It came out three

years ago, even four years ago and I put it on repeat mode. It's really beautiful

Same love is quite explicit. It's that about love between two people from with the same sex

and it's really beautiful, the music is good, the clip is good so go take a look

As we were doing some search for this video we also found a

song that was a bit funny. The title Song is"Coming out"

and this is from the group Les Fatal Picards and is just funny, there's even Dave who's part

of the clip! So confusing! but yeah this song it for those who find

coming out tough, a difficult stage etc .. They made a song

about it in a lighter way nd it's nice to watch. I thought

we would go a week without talking about coming out. Oh no it's never possible.

We stay in the French repertoire, and this one is

not necessarily a love stories between two women. I still wanted to

put it in this list, the song is from Indochine and its called "third sex" and it's about Transgender people

I think it's a really powerful song, it must also thing about other people that just

lesbians So I really wanted put it in this list

it is beautiful, go watch it. All that to say there is no many

songs. Is there any songs about bisexual? Would you like that? A song about

you? ha it depends how they talk about

it. We will hope that this is not the team from C'est Mon Choix that;s going to write the song ...

who decided to turn into music. Evelyne Oh no! bisexual is pictured

in the world of music, with girls having sex with other girls but

then come back with the boys... I don't know if there is a song that really talks about bisexuality

I don't know if I know one. If you know some, well say it, send us

links and then we would be delighted to see that

if you compose music, do more LGBT songs, that would be fun. It is necessary

that we are represented because all straight get to sing their love their feeling and you, you are just

next him like yeaahhh noooooo We too would like to sing

with our microphone pretending we are on a stage singing a love story

The songs are not necessarily reserved for straight people , we also deserved songs,

we too need to shout our pain or breakup with our hairbrush in

our hand and shout to the world how much that girl makes us suffer. We have

the right to have that! Yes! But when I say it, there is less impact

because straight songs also works on me so YOU should say it

I say it! I hope you liked the video, if you have other ideas or

you know other music talking about LGBT stories,

put them in the comment section like that we will be able to see them ... For the mugs!

Remember we have a instagram contest which started today! Go to our

instagram, links are in the description, Go participate. Subscribe to this channel,

Comment and we will se you next week ! Byeeeee

Illuminating the Universe: The History of Light - Duration: 7:09.

If a light is on and no one is around to see it, is anything actually lit up?

The ancient Greeks didn't think so.

They thought vision was due to rays 'shot out' and returned to the eye.

That's… not how it works.

Unless your name is Cyclops.

It took over 2,000 years, from those Greeks all the way to Einstein, to figure out how

we see the world….

And each answer led to other questions - Is light a wave, or a particle?

Is it instantaneous, or does it travel at some speed?

Does it even exist independent of our perception?

Through these brilliant discoveries about light, we've gradually illuminated our place

in the universe.

[INTRO]

Beyond what we can touch, smell, hear, and

taste, we experience the universe through light.

The first theories of vision came from the Greeks, who thought our eyes worked more

like flashlights than cameras.

It made sense: at night, animals seemed to have 'fire in their eyes' - so why not humans

too?

Early mathematicians like Euclid worked out that light mostly traveled in straight lines,

and deciphered the geometry of how it's bent and reflected.

We still use a lot of that today, but the nature of sight changed in the 10th century.

An Arab Muslim named Ibn Al-Haytham's had a revolutionary idea.

Instead of just accepting the Greeks' ideas, he actually tested them.

He set up specific situations, varied different conditions.

He did experiments, making him perhaps the first true scientist.

Al-Haytham set up two lanterns outside a dark room.

There was a hole in the wall.

Inside the room, he saw two spots of light.

Cover a lantern?

Its spot disappeared.

This reversed Euclid's idea.

Our eyes don't give off light, they're just receivers.

It proved that light existed outside our bodies.

Yeah, I know, it's obvious, but this was a HUGE step.

But there was still a bunch we didn't understand

For most of our life experiences, light moves so fast, it might as well be instantaneous.

For a long time this is what everyone thought.

Dutch astronomer Ole Romer noticed eclipses of the moon Io came later than expected when

Earth and Jupiter's orbits were moving away, and sooner than expected when the planets

moved closer.

This difference was explained by the time lag for light to make up the distance.

Light travels at a speed.

Once it was understood that light was a thing that traveled from one place to another, people

like Newton began to take it apart.

Prisms separate light and recombine it because different colors are all bent by different

amounts, proving color is an intrinsic property of light, not just a trick of our perception.

Newton noticed shining colored light on objects can make them appear any hue.

But if you use their 'true' color, they shine most brightly.

This showed Newton pigments in objects worked 'subtractively' - white light contains

every color, and objects would absorb the colors they weren't, and reflect the colors

we see.

Newton's contemporaries, found that the bending of light in prisms, refraction, could

be explained if light was actually a wave, and if that wave had different speeds in different

media.

And the famous double slit experiment found interference of light in a wave-like fashion,

like ripples in a pond.

Despite all this evidence that light acted like a wave, Newton and many others held on

to the "corpuscular theory" - that light is composed of many many tiny balls, all with

their own color.

Newton was also really into alchemy, which had a thing for the number 7, so he divided

the rainbow into 7 bands.

Newton also thought color should be cyclical, so he mapped it to the musical scales.

Of course today, we know light comes in a spectrum, not a circle, but to get that, we

have to go forward another hundred years, to the astronomer William Herschel.

Like Newton, Herschel used a prism to break up sunlight into its colors to measure temperatures

across the rainbow.

But when he put a thermometer in the dark, just past the red, it registered the highest

temperature of all!

There must be invisible light, beyond what we can see.

He called these "heat rays," but today we know them as infrared.

Johann Ritter decided to test the other end of the spectrum, past the purple.

There, he found that chemical reactions happened fastest.

He called these 'oxidizing rays,' but today we call that higher energy light ultraviolet.

In the 19th century, James Clerk Maxwell finally unified electricity and magnetism.

He calculated that the speed of 'electromagnetic waves' was the same as the speed of light.

The particle theory was dead.

Electromagnetic waves *are* light!

'Heat rays' and 'chemical rays' and visible light were all part of the same beast,

the electromagnetic spectrum, a continuous gradient of waves, all made of the same "stuff",

extending out beyond each end of the tiny sliver we can see.

At one end, long waves of "invisible light" were created using electric currents and antennas.

Radio waves and all wireless communication, were born.

At the other end, we discovered invisible light with short waves and even more powerful

energies: X-rays and gamma rays.

The finishing touches came 100 years ago.

Max Planck developed a theory of how energy is spread across the spectrum, in little bits

he called quanta, but to make it work, light had to be a particle, like Newton thought,

each with specific energy.

Einstein realized this could explain the photoelectric effect . If light behaved like "packets"

of waves, what we now call photons, it could explain why shining light beams on metals

could release electrons.

Single photons can knock single electrons, out of their atom.

By combining these features they resolved the debate.

Llight is neither a wave nor a particle, but both… simultaneously.

And this 'wave packet,' idea set the stage for modern quantum theory.

But that's a story for another day.

From humble beginnings in Greece and the Arab world, over two thousand years we've

learned a lot about how we see the world, and made the universe bigger and smaller in a lot of ways.

Stay curious.

ALMA - Duration: 5:09.

The space telescopes orbiting Earth tend to get a lot of attention.

It seems like there's always some beautiful new Hubble photo, or a couple of new exoplanets

discovered by Kepler.

But there are some amazingly advanced ground-based telescopes, too, and some of their coolest

discoveries have come from ALMA, a telescope that's been observing the universe since 2011.

ALMA, or the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array, is made of a set of 66 telescope dishes

stretching out over the Chajnantor plateau, part of the Atacama desert in Chile.

The phrase millimeter/submillimeter describes the chunk of the electromagnetic spectrum

that ALMA detects — wavelengths that range from about a millimeter to about 10 millimeters,

on the shorter-wavelength end of the microwave spectrum.

Its huge array of dishes gives ALMA the highest sensitivity of any millimeter/submillimeter

telescope in the world.

Since it's the best in its class, ALMA's always being used to observe and re-observe

stuff in space.

And some of the telescope's most amazing finds have taught us about everything from

new exoplanets, to ancient star formation, to giant glowing clouds of hydrogen.

Like when astronomers used ALMA to clear up the controversy around a star called Fomalhaut.

Back in 2008, the Hubble Space Telescope discovered what looked like an exoplanet around Fomalhaut.

It was the first discovery of its kind.

All the exoplanets discovered before that had been found indirectly, through clues like

changes in the star's light.

But you could actually see this planet directly.

It looked like a denser point of light in the enormous, diffuse disk around the star.

But even though astronomers were pretty sure they'd discovered a planet around Fomalhaut,

they weren't totally sure.

Because the visible material in the disk, which is mostly small dust particles, does

two things:

First, it scatters lots of visible light, so if you're observing it in the visible

wavelength range, the dust is very bright.

And second, the force from solar wind from Fomalhaut can be strong enough to move those

dust particles around.

So astronomers knew that the images of the disk taken in visible light didn't necessarily

correspond to the actual underlying disk structure.

So that planet Hubble found?

It might not have been there at all.

That's where ALMA came in.

In 2012, astronomers decided to study the disk around Fomalhaut in millimeter/submillimeter

wavelengths, which would allow them to see past the haze into the deeper structure, where

more massive particles live.

When they used ALMA to observe the disk, they saw a very sharp and well-defined inner structure,

which basically looked like a ring of larger particles.

And based on computer models of the ring, they found that it's probably shaped by

a couple of shepherd planets, which orbit on the inside and outside of the ring and

sort of corral the particles.

Which means that thanks to ALMA, we now have a lot more evidence that there really is a

planet around Fomalhaut — maybe more than one planet.

So ALMA can see deep into a star's disk.

But it can also see deep into the ancient universe.

As the universe expands and sources of light move away from us, the light we see essentially

gets stretched out so it has a longer wavelength, in what's called redshift.

If visible light gets stretched enough, it isn't visible anymore, because it's gone

past red and into the infrared, or even microwave range.

This means that really old, distant things are invisible to our eyes, and to telescopes

that can't detect long enough wavelengths.

But we can detect those things if we tune into a lower-energy part of the spectrum.

Like, say ... the millimeter/submillimeter range.

So, ALMA can see really ancient light!

Astronomers have been using ALMA in an ongoing project to reobserve Hubble's famous

Ultra Deep Field image.

The Ultra Deep Field shows tons of galaxies in a tiny section of sky — the size of a

grain of sand held at arm's length.

I mean, literally tons.

There are about 10,000 galaxies in the image.

But we know that there's even more in that section of sky.

So astronomers are using ALMA to see what Hubble couldn't.

And last year, they found that ancient galaxies in that section of sky — like, ten billion

years old kind of ancient — had high concentrations of carbon monoxide, which is associated with

star formation.

They already knew that around the same time, there was a huge peak in star formation in

the universe.

But they weren't sure what caused all that star formation — until they used ALMA to

observe those early galaxies, and found the abundance of carbon monoxide.

And now we know that the gas must have provided the right conditions for the stellar baby boom.

ALMA has also helped us learn why some of the largest objects in the universe are glowing

— specifically, these ridiculously ancient, huge structures called Lyman-alpha blobs.

They're called that because they have very a well-defined Lyman-alpha spectral line,

a specific wavelength of ultraviolet light that's emitted by hot hydrogen gas.

So we knew that there were these enormous, luminous clouds of hydrogen just floating

around in space, but we had no idea why they were glowing.

Enter ALMA.

Astronomers using ALMA found galaxy clusters inside the Lyman-alpha blobs.

And it turns out that these galaxies are forming stars at an incredibly high rate, and emitting

lots of Lyman-alpha radiation because of all the hydrogen in those stars.

The radiation then scatters off of the surrounding gas cloud, and we see an enormous blob.

And now we know why Lyman-alpha blobs glow: it's because of all the galaxies making

stars inside them.

So even though ALMA's only been around for a few years, it's already taught astronomers

a ton about the universe.

And with the constant flurry of papers being published with discoveries made using ALMA,

we're always learning more.

Birthday Blizzard & Travelling Home | US Adventures 2017 - Duration: 13:27.

Good morning everybody, it is my birthday! And what happens on my birthday?

If you're a family member, you're probably the only person is going to be able to answer that.

Snow happens on my birthday, that's what!

There's been absolutely no sign of any snow the entire time we've been here

and there's none due for the rest of the week.

So it's a one-day birthday special.

Snow happens all the time on my birthday.

If it's not snow it's very bad weather that threatens snow so I'm really -

I'm really not surprised that snow's came out today. It's quite funny really.

But umm not funny in the sense that I have to get to the airport later

but we've checked the flights and fingers crossed they seem to be okay at the moment.

What else am I gonna do today? I'm gonna try and find my birthday cake.

It just so happens that there's a Carlo's Bakery nearby.

Umm Carlo's bakery if you don't know, is from the show "Cake Boss".

"Cake Boss" is a show where they make some awesome cakes.

They don't even look like cakes, they're like works of art.

So umm there's a Carlo's Bakery nearby about a 5-10 minute walk maybe.

So I'll go and get myself a birthday cupcake or something later.

Other than that I need to check out obviously and get to the airport.

So my flight isn't until about 8 o'clock at night

but I think we're going to be leaving around about 2 o'clock.

Paul's flight's earlier and I'm just gonna jump in the taxi with him I think.

So we're back from breakfast and it's still snowing

and I think we've just found the worst job that somebody's having to do today.

There's a building over here covered in snow and there's at least one person on the roof

who's having to clear away all the snow [LAUGH], like this building over here.

I can't actually see anybody on the roof there.

Man: No I think he's moved, he was there but I think he's gone inside.

Aww, but we were spying on him!

Oh well if we see him again later I'll let you know.

Well the snow is still ongoing outside.

That guy at the building never returned and now it's time for us to go.

Time for us to check out so what we're gonna do is we're gonna leave our bags downstairs

and then we're gonna get off to Carlo's Bakery so that should be good.

Okay so see you soon!

Yeah, I can never quite get my head in with signs. We're at Carlo's Bake Shop now.

I've just got the nicest hot chocolate I've ever had, it was free as well!

I don't know if it's because it's just such a rubbish day

and I've got my takeaway bag of things to get.

I got two cakes in the end because hey, it's my birthday.

I can't really justify it with anything else than that.

So yeah, time for us to go back.

The snow doesn't look very bad

and it isn't really that bad, like most of the streets are clear and things

but it does make it for miserable walking conditions.

Umm I haven't seen any tour buses today I assume they're not running.

There's nobody on the famous TKTS steps.

I never actually went up them and I'm definitely not going up them today I can live without that.

And every street we're kind of coming up to is a bit horrible to walk along.

But was it worth it to go and see Carlo's Bakery? I think so.

I would've liked to have gone on a nicer day but since it's my birthday I had to buy myself a birthday cake

So yeah we're just heading back into the hotel now, we can't go back up to the room

but we'll maybe sit in the foyer and eat the cake.

So my hot chocolate is long gone. That was the best hot chocolate I have ever had.

Even if the cupcakes are rubbish,

if I ever come back to New York I'm going back there for a hot chocolate

it was the nicest thing ever

and it was complimentary I'm not sure if that was because it was really really bad weather

or whether they just do that all the time, I have no idea. But anyways...

The brownie's probably easier to eat in transit.

[RUSTLING PAPER]

There we are!

Okay so review of the brownie, I've ate half of it so far

because it's really really rich so um...

It's absolutely delicious but there's only so much that I can eat at once.

So I've wrapped up the other half and I'll maybe have that later.

I'm in two minds as to whether to try the cupcake just now

I probably shouldn't but I kind of want to

and it's my birthday so I can do anything I want so I suppose I will.

Let's have a look, let's at least unwrap it and then we can decide from there.

It's like a caramel one I've got.

Okay so it came in this really really cute box...

That I can't seem to open with one hand. There we go. Aah it fell over!

There's a kind of hole in the box here that helps them to stand up and I think...

I don't think they've put it into that or maybe I've knocked it over, I don't know.

But yeah, that's what my cupcake looks like it's a caramel flavored one

and I'm gonna eat some of the frosting just now.

It doesn't actually taste like very much to me

but I suppose that's because it's just frosting like maybe with

the flavors of the cake and that it will taste more impressively.

But I do like how light and cool the frosting is.

As far as frosting goes it looks like it should.

We're in the taxi now heading home.

Well not "heading home", heading to the airport

and it's just funny seeing how much snow there is, like they've -

they've done a really good job of clearing it all away.

But as an example there,

that's what one of the bins looks like. All that snow!

So the roads and that tend to be quite clear,

they're working on making the paths clear which is really good.

Umm but the roads are quite quiet as well

because everybody's been advised to stay at home if they can.

Yeah I'd rather be at JFK and be there ready if anything happens

than late for my flight most definitely.

So it's about 2 o'clock in the afternoon just now and we're on our way.

Okay so I'm at the airport now and I've said goodbye to Paul.

I've also just finished eating my cupcake

which was nice except for all the squashed icing

because I couldn't hold that box the right way round.

But umm yeah it was really nice, I think I preferred the brownie

but the cupcake was nice as well, definitely a good birthday cake.

So umm what I'm doing just now is I'm transferring over to Terminal 7

because we got the taxi to Terminal 4 so

I'm just transferring over to there and then I'm hopefully gonna check in

and go through security and have some time to kinda chill out in there, I don't really know.

But umm I'm glad to be at the airport nice and early

and just gonna see how the rest of the evening goes. Of course I'll be taking you with me as always.

My timing was really weird there.

Umm they're having a bit of a trouble with umm queue times and stuff at the moment

so they diverted me to first-class security

and I basically got fast tracked and my face must've been a picture when that happened cause

that's never happened umm so yeah that was quite funny really.

Umm I just got through first class with everybody else.

Anyways I'm through security now as you can probably tel.l

I'm just kind of wandering about, it's really going to be quite a while before I'm going anywhere,

about five hours to be exact! So I should maybe go and have a meal somewhere

or have a good relax, I don't really know. The runway is white.

Probably in like a manageable way for them but umm it looks really funny like the wind...

Yeah everything's just white. It's like being in the Arctic.

So I'm glad that I've managed to check in I've managed to get through security and everything

and now's the relaxing bit, now I'm ready for the flight

and hopefully my plane will be in soon as well.

Okay so it's about 7.20 now and it's getting closer to boarding time.

I've survived the endless waits in the airport and it's just about time to fly.

So I've changed into my flight socks which aren't...

you know, they're very old-ladyish but I mean deep vein thrombosis is a thing so

I want to keep my blood flowing correctly. Changed into some comfy clothes

and I'm ready to fly. I look like an old lady

but I really don't mind, I'm ready to fly.

So I'm also looking forward to seeing what movies they have on this plane.

Umm like cause they always have the free selections on the screen and that

so hopefully I'll find something good to watch. See you on the other side!

The weather we've had today has put us behind a little bit

because some of the flights before us were delayed so um yeah.

We're a little bit delayed on the tarmac here but the winds are maybe going to help us.

We might be a little bit late in coming in but ultimately I think I'm still gonna make my flight ok.

We're about 10 minutes away from landing and as you can see it's a very sunny morning in London.

Or maybe it just feels that way cause we're closer to the sun up here.

We spent quite a while on the tarmac in New York.

But we're not too far behind, I don't think it's gonna affect my next flight too much.

It is gonna affect how much time I'm gonna have in the lounge but never mind.

But yeah that should be Plane Journey 1 out of 2 almost done.

So you haven't seen me since my plane landed

and that's because I've just had to do a mad dash off the plane

through security, get my passport checked and everything in about 20 minutes

in order to make it to my next flight.

At one point I actually broke into a run because I thought I was going to miss it.

It's about 9.50 just now and the gate is down as closing at 10.

So I really thought I was gonna be like the last person on the plane or something.

Ran through the airport, this was the day where I got stopped by security

needed like a proper pat down and everything.

The gate is further away than usual, ran across the airport

and I get here and everybody is still sat down, not a single person has boarded.

They haven't even started the pre-boarding shuffle yet which is where everybody gets up

and seems to think they're the most important person. So [DEEP BREATH]

I'm just get my breath back now.

That was like a very dramatic 20 minutes or so,

if this was a Hollywood movie that would've been a whole thing.

but anyways I'm glad I've managed to make my connection.

I can finally take some time to text my family and let them know I'm back in the UK.

Anyways the next time you see me, chances are I'll be on a plane because

I've just came off one and I'm due to go back on one right now, yay!

And here we are, Plane Number Two! I've managed to get on the plane, I'm here safely

and I've managed to reassure my family that I'm still on my way.

That was the most dramatic transfer I've ever had

so I'm so glad to be sitting down again for the next couple of hours.

And we're on the way to Edinburgh now, yay!

After being on so many long-haul flights, I've actually forgotten what it's like to fly from Edinburgh to London.

So it's about less than an hour than when we took off

and we're just coming into land very shortly.

So we've made it back to Edinburgh quite safely just about on time

which sadly means this is the end of my adventure again.

Thank you very very much for joining me, do leave any comments you have down below

and thanks very much for watching. I'll be back soon, cheerio!

Do Things Get Worse Before They Get Better? - Duration: 2:49.

Hey, everyone, R. Shawn McBride here with you again today touching base.

I have an age-old question, which is, do things get worse before they get better?

We've heard this phrase for a long time.

I remember it from my childhood.

I've certainly carried it with me through my life.

The real question is, is it true?

Do things actually get worse before they get better?

I think there is some truth to the saying and there are some reasons why.

As you know, I talk a lot about planning.

Part of planning is preparing and implementing.

There's this phase where you're not fully in sync with where you're going to be, so

you have to build an infrastructure.

Infrastructures has cost.

I was talking to another entrepreneur earlier today.

We were talking about building an engine for your business and making it a machine, and

the effort that takes.

You have to build the machine and build the engine and put the parts together.

And then one day that machine will power things.

If you're building an engine for a car, you have to buy all the parts, assemble the parts,

pay for the parts, get them in the right order, start running it, and eventually you'll have

output.

Very similar to our businesses.

The thing is how do we build these systems?

Often, in business, making a system or building something requires a high level of commitment,

requires a lot of work, breaking what we've been doing in the past, doing something new

in the future.

I think there is truth to this, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

We can build these systems better.

We can use the learning of others.

We can bring other people in to help us build these systems, and use our current system

while we're implementing our new system, to minimize disruption.

Things may get worse before they get better, but we can often build things the right way.

Think about it, analyze it, get the right team together to maximize your strength and

to minimize these problems.

I'm Shawn McBride.

A lot of great work ahead of us.

Things will get worse before they get better, but they're going to get better quickly.

Black & White Printing by George Schaub | Days of Knight 170320.2-049 - Duration: 3:18.

Hi everyone, Azriel Knight here and today I'm reviewing George Schaub's book on the

basic darkroom called: Black & White Printing: The Complete Guide to Effective Darkroom Techniques.

George Schaub, a New York born, second generation photographer, had released several books already

when this was published in 1991

and by the looks of a quick google search is currently still active and has integrated into today's digital era.

This book is a basic darkroom guide, broken down into seven parts, including setting up

a darkroom, the black & white negative, and making black & white prints.

I found the information easy to digest, and detailed without being long winded.

There are photo examples when appropriate and the hard cover version has large, easy to read text.

The thing I liked about this book is their attention to detail regarding condenser and

diffusion based enlargers, and how different light sources produced different results on darkroom paper.

I was happy to see both sides of an argument presented with things like "should I use a

stop bath?" or "steel tanks vs plastic" For me those answers remain "Yes" & "Plastic"

but for you that might be different.

I also found the areas on spotting and bleaching quite interesting.

This was released in 1991, but much of what's inside is still relevant.

Yeah, you'll find a list here and a mention there of things you can't buy anymore.

Developers, papers, films, but if you're like me it'll only fascinate you.

You may also have a chuckle or two at the ease of which certain chemicals were available,

and other problems and advantages a 90's photographer had.

While it does talk about film development, it emphasizes much more on the print.

So if you've never developed your own film, you may be frustrated with certain parts of

the book that glaze over techniques like loading negatives onto a spool.

I think the most important part of this book though, especially in today's age is identifying

improperly exposed and developed negatives.

Today's scanners are very forgiving and I've personally had images that look fantastic

in a scan that turned out to be unusable for an analog print.

Considering I paid a total of $7 Canadian including shipping from Amazon for this book, it's pretty hard not

to recommend it.

Even if you already have an established darkroom, you're bound to find something useful here.

I know I did.

If you do decide you want this book, all I ask is you consider using the affiliate link I've provided
