Today I have for you powertex sculpture in stone art technique.

I had so much fun doing this :), I hope you can see it.

Pottery works inspired me.

"Open head" is quite common motive in pottery.

So I tried to interpret it using powertex.

I need 2 styrofoam "cakes".

Diameter 30 cm and the smaller 17 cm.

I cover the smaller "cake" with foil and plaster bandage. I put it at first in water.

The aluminium foil doesn't stick to plaster and protect the styrofoam.

The plaster will be dry and hard in a few minutes. It builds a stable base for stone art and powertex.

Now I am cutting the bigger "cake". It will be the body.

I work directly on metal footing.

I have to prepare the neck. I am forming it from aluminium foil.

I check the length and cover the neck with paper tape.

I use the same tape to connect the neck with the body.

I used the blue tape, which is not the best. It is too plastic and the yellow one is better.

The yellow paper tape sticks better to powertex.

Now I need the bluish grey powertex to make some stone art clay.

Buy the way - the cat didn't drink the powertex :)

He just loves the camera.

I added some stone art powder to make the clay.

I am covering the styrofoam base with the bluish gray powertex.

I also cover the neck with the stone art clay to hide the tape.

I am creating some stone structure.

The head is dry, so I can cover it also with powertex.

Be sure, that the plaster is not wet - use hair dryer if necessary.

I am forming and sticking chin, nose, cheeks, eyes and mouth.

This is the face.

The stone art clay will be shrinking by drying, so use bigger forms.

Now I am using the stone art powder to create the stone effect.

I am using the brush to connect the powder with the clay and powertex.

I am doing the same thing with the body.

I am using the brush because it is not dry and stable.

I am connecting the head with the neck using the clay and wet powertex as glue.

Now I can remove the styrofoam "cake".

I am also removing the foil to let everything dry.

I would like to dress my sculpture. I found interesting net.

After it is dry I can paint it a little bit with mineral paint.

I chose the elegant rose, because I would like to decorate the head with roses.

At the end I painted the head inside with the powertex. I want to be sure, that the construction will be stable.

I have to create flower decoration in the head.

I was gonna to forget about my roommate from last year, Adam Allcock.

The first time I knew that Adam thinks in a way fundamentally different from anyone I've ever met in a really brilliant, beautiful way was...

...it was Week 0, and we were getting ready to go to classes.

And Adam's in his room; I'm in my room.

And I was like, "Adam, we got to go this 'cause it's mandatory."

And Adam's like, "I'm skipping all mandatory things."

And I was like, "Why?"

And he was like,

"If they were so good, they wouldn't have to make it mandatory."

And I was like, "it's a goddamn genius!"

This kid's a goddamn genius--I called my Mom right there.

So then I got lotteried off campus

And so then I had to go to Palo Alto to live, and Adam stayed back on campus.

I leave that guy alone for ONE semester!

Come back, it's a whole new world at this school.

I was -- uh -- I was in Highland Hall, leaving the bathroom again, and I see this email.

"...and proceeded to do the moonwalk."

"But there is nothing to see here."

You remember that email?

It was a lot of fun.

And then there was the Thanksgiving email.

That was the talk of the town in the Hayward household.

'Cause, finally, Adam replies:

"It is I, Adam Allcock!"

As if there's anyone else the fuck it could have been.

And homie let me say this:

There is NO bluff. I've been saying that.

And my personal opinion is that it takes a lot of--a lot of courage to take a stand.
